Australia's Bananagun draw heavily from vintage psychedelia including Tropicalia, '70s Afrobeat, and summery retro-pop as well as spiritual jazz for their animated sound. After garnering acclaim for their 2019 EP, the group issued their debut album, the uplifting The True Story of Bananagun in 2020. Reflecting a period of upheaval, an overcast tone characterized the more experimental, jam-based Why Is the Colour of the Sky? in 2024.
