Multifaceted musician Carlos Hernandez is associated with an arty take on indie funk that's both vocally smooth and musically complex, as exhibited in both his band Ava Luna and his rare solo work under the alias Carlos Truly. Emerging in the late 2000s, Ava Luna relied heavily on vocal harmonies, free forms, and jagged, percussive arrangements before taking their sound in a gradually more structured direction beginning with 2014's Electric Balloon.
