Biography
A kind of cross between frat rock and garage rock, the Centurys, who certainly looked a lot more like greasers than the Rolling Stones, had a big local hit in their neck of the Pennsylvania woods with "Hard Times" on Swan Records. Collectors of '60s garage rock, however, esteem them mostly for raw demos that were issued in the '80s. Although not too well recorded, these have an appealingly gloomy feel and a tough organ sound, as well as the requisite disenchanted attitude. ~ Richie Unterberger
