Chico Freeman is a composer, bandleader, educator, and multi-reedist from Chicago. The scion of the late saxophonist Von Freeman, he has issued dozens of recordings as a leader, and played on hundreds more. While a member of Elvin Jones' group, he issued his debut album, Morning Prayer, for Japan's WhyNot label, and then signed to India Navigation for 1977's Chico, the first of a handful of now-classic albums for the label.
