Inspired by Albert Mudrian's book Choosing Death: The Improbable History of Death Metal and Grindcore, Hellacopters frontman and former Entombed drummer Nicke Andersson formed Death Breath in 2005 as a tribute to old-school Swedish death metal. In contrast to its more technical American counterpart, early-'90s Swedish death metal featured filthy tones and simple, bluesy riffs.
