Biography

Though respected for his interpretations of works that range across the entire repertoire, conductor Dennis Russell Davies is particularly well known for his skillful presentations of new music. He has conducted the premieres of works by several major composers of the 20th century and has a substantial recording catalog. Davies was born in Toledo, Ohio, on April 16, 1944. His formal training includes studies at the Juilliard School of Music, where his conducting teachers were Jean Morel and Jorge Mester.
