As a hip-hop DJ in a city overridden with techno and house DJs, it's little surprise that DJ Butter has received little recognition among the mainstream. Along with most of the other DJs, producers, and particularly rappers composing Detroit's underground rap scene, Butter soon found himself the object of substantial interest following Eminem's breakthrough in 1999, as the rap community quickly looked to the city for more talent.
