Independent beatmaker dtrenz (Dan Trenz) emphasizes musicality and restraint with an organic approach inspired by jazz- and soul-powered collectives the Ummah and the Soulquarians. The Ann Arbor-based producer introduced his sound -- foregrounded in crisp drums and melodic electric keyboards -- in 2012 with a 7" single pressed in an edition of 200, and later made it available for download. In 2022, he followed up with SUPERPREMIUM, an LP that wouldn't be out of place beside releases from labels such as First Word and Street Corner Music. ~ Andy Kellman
