A leading Russian choral conductor, Ekaterina Antonenko directs Moscow's Intrada Vocal Ensemble and has toured with that group in the West as well as in Russia. She is also a prominent educator.
Antonenko was born in Moscow. Her family was musical; she was of Jewish background, and her great-grandfather was a Ukrainian synagogue cantor. Antonenko's younger brother was the pianist and conductor Mikhail Shekhtman, born in 1989, and both siblings were inspired by a grandfather, Avram Shekhtman, who had a fine tenor voice and a large record collection.
