Biography

Cumbia saxophonist Fito Olivares and his band La Pura Sabrosura -- including his brothers Javier on vocals and Jaime on keyboards -- were born and raised in Ciudad Camargo, Tamaulipas, Mexico. They relocated to Houston, Texas, in 1977, and formed the group three years later; the band eventually signed with the Gil Records label. Olivares enjoyed his commercial breakthrough in 1988 with the hits "La Gallina" and "Juana la Cubana."
