Among the most prolific conductors of modern times, Gerard Schwarz has also been active as a trumpeter. The longtime conductor of the Seattle Symphony, he remained active after retiring from that post in 2011. Schwarz has recorded as a guest conductor with numerous ensembles in the U.S. and Europe, generally issuing multiple recordings annually. In 2024, he conducted a recording of an operatic adaptation of the Stephen King novel The Shining with the Lyric Opera of Kansas City.
