Polish conductor Grzegorz Nowak studied conducting, composition, and violin at the Ignacy Jan Paderewski Academy of Music in Poznan, Poland, then earned his doctorate at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. He received a Serge Koussevitsky Fellowship to Tanglewood, and studied with Leonard Bernstein, Seiji Ozawa, Erich Leinsdorf, and Igor Markevitch, and afterwards became an assistant to Kurt Masur.
