Pianist Maria Tipo was a pioneer in the performance and recording of the music of Domenico Scarlatti and Muzio Clementi. Beyond that, her repertory as a soloist and in chamber music ran forward into the 19th century, and she was a prominent educator. Tipo appeared as a soloist with leading orchestras outside Italy, including several in the U.S. Her recording career began in the 1950s with an album of Scarlatti sonatas, and reissues brought it into the 21st century.
