American Mark Egan is one of the premier contemporary jazz bassists. His electric fretless bass, often played as a lead instrument, offers a sound that's airy, edgeless, and intensely melodic. A founding member of the Pat Metheny Group from 1977 to 1981, he and PMG drummer Danny Gottlieb formed Elements after leaving. Their eponymous debut appeared in 1982. Egan released Mosaic, his leader debut, in 1985.
