Biography
American Mark Egan is one of the premier contemporary jazz bassists. His electric fretless bass, often played as a lead instrument, offers a sound that's airy, edgeless, and intensely melodic. A founding member of the Pat Metheny Group from 1977 to 1981, he and PMG drummer Danny Gottlieb formed Elements after leaving. Their eponymous debut appeared in 1982. Egan released Mosaic, his leader debut, in 1985. Elements released three bestselling albums -- Illumination, Liberal Arts, and Spirit River -- for RCA's Novus between 1988 and 1991 and split after 1996's Untold Stories. The...
