Launching his music career in the mid-1980s, singer/songwriter/producer Mike Viola quickly became associated with tuneful power pop, both as soloist and with bands including Candy Butchers. In 1996, he co-produced the Academy Award-nominated song "That Thing You Do!" with Adam Schlesinger, leading to regular work as a producer and studio musician. Viola also performed lead vocals on the track.
