One of the greatest songwriters of the 20th century, pianist and singer/songwriter Mose Allison (aka "The Sage of Tippo") suffered from a "categorization problem" throughout his career. Although his boogie woogie-cum-bebop playing style was fresh and innovative (and got better as he aged), he excelled as a composer of highly original blues and jazz tunes.
