A protégé of Mstislav Rostropovich, Narek Hakhnazaryan is one of the most prominent rising musicians of his generation from Central Asia. His career was propelled by the gold medal he received at the 2011 International Tchaikovsky Competition.
Hakhnazaryan was born on October 23, 1988, in Yerevan, Armenia, then part of the Soviet Union. His father was a violinist, and his mother was a pianist.
