Pantayo

Applying distinctly modern aesthetics to ancient traditions, Pantayo are an all-female Canadian-Filipina ensemble known for their use of the kulintang, a percussive gong-based instrument native to the Southern Philippines. Blending the unique timbres of the kulintang and other related metallophones with electronics and daring punk-inspired synth pop, the Toronto group's eponymous 2020 debut landed with a truly original sound through which they filtered their experiences as queer women of the Filipina diaspora.
