Austin, TX-based instrumental post-rock quartet Paul Newman formed in late 1995, named not in honor of the Hollywood icon but rather bassist Paul A. Newman; guitarist Craig McCaffrey and drummer Anthony Nozero completed the original lineup, which expanded to a four-piece with the addition of second bassist Eddie Robert in mid-1996. The following spring Paul Newman issued their debut seven-inch "...Please Wait During the Silence" on the Twistworthy label before signing to Trance Syndicate to release the full-length Frames per Second in early 1998.
