A super session arranged by BBC DJ Gilles Peterson -- a champion of Brazilian music since his time as a pirate radio broadcaster -- Sonzeira involved legends, underrecognized veterans, and younger contemporary musicians alike. Aiming to present a modern-sounding album with allegiance to the country's many sounds, Peterson went to Rio and, in January 2014, gathered the likes of Elza Soares, Naná Vasconcelos, Marcos Valle, Ed Motta, Seu Jorge, and Alexandre Kassin.
