Pianist Steven Blier is among the leading American song accompanists, and he founded the durable New York Festival of Song. He is also a prominent educator.
Blier was born on November 25, 1951, in New York. As a child, he enjoyed the operettas of Gilbert & Sullivan and then became interested in opera and, finally, art song, once hearing a recital by soprano Elisabeth Schwarzkopf.
