David Stewart and Roy Bleau formed Subject 13 by blending their main influences, specifically the mellower side of jazz and rough-and-tumble drum'n'bass. The duo grew up in London's Hackney and had played football together since they were teenagers. Stewart dropped out of college to begin DJing (mostly hip-hop and soul), and by 1990 was producing hardcore tracks as Eternity.
