The Bad Ends can be called an Athens, Georgia supergroup because it features two local legends: R.E.M. drummer Bill Berry and Mike Mantione, the leader of the Five Eight. On a global scale, Berry's fame eclipsed Mantione's by a considerable degree yet the latter kept the flame of jangle pop burning through the 1990s and beyond, making him a linchpin of the Athens scene.
