Charlie Boyer got his start in music playing for a bunch of bands, most notably the folky Electricity in Our Homes, before deciding to finally do his own thing in 2012. He released a solo single ("Ducks"/"You Haven't Got a Chance") for Blank Editions, then decided to get a band together to help realize his vision of Tom Verlaine fronting a psychedelic Velvet Underground.
