Formed in 1986 in Wellington, New Zealand, the Wild Poppies began as a jangle pop-inspired band, but after a move to England explored a noisier, gaze-ier sound. Their first single, "Where Is Wellington/Stare at the Sun," was released in 1987, followed by their only album, Heroine, that same year.
