Toystore was the alias of the enigmatic twee-popster Jenky, a notoriously reclusive figure about whom almost nothing is known. According to legend, his demo tapes arrived unsolicited on the doorstep of the tiny Michigan-based indie label Janeane Records sometime in early 1998, accompanied only by a letter reading "At the very most, please release my music; at the very least, please do not make fun of it."
