Ulf Schirmer

Ulf Schirmer became one of the most rapidly-developing young conducting talents in the 1990s. He studied conducting and composition at the Bremen Conservatory and the Hamburg Adacemy of Music, where his instructors included composer György Ligeti and conductors Christoph von Dohnányi and Horst Stein. In 1980 he was engaged as a choral director at the Vienna State Opera. Soon after that he became an assistant to the music director, Lorin Maazel.
