Speaker 1 (00:01):
You don't listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Well, that's right, you heard the man. It is that
time of week. My name is Bernie Frattle. We are
Comedy Alive from the Fox Sports Radio compound here in
Las Vegas, and we'll take you up to three am Pacific,
six am Eastern. I think I've probably got about eight
hours worth of content tonight, but we will squeeze it
(00:25):
into four. We're gonna get to all of it. Any
big stories that I might have missed. Oh, by the way,
let me let me just start by saying this, We've
got some good news and we've got some bad news. Well,
the good news is, you see, the biggest saga facing
(00:48):
America since John Benet, Ramsey, Tanya Harding and the Lindberg
Baby has in fact now been reconciled. Shudor Sanders was drafted.
Now let me start by saying, I like Shdoor Sanders.
I'm not sure if he's going to translate to the NFL,
and I'll bring plenty of receipts. I covered the Lions
(01:08):
for fourteen years ten in an official capacity, covered drafts
pre and posed for tenn I saw a lot, talked
a lot, and yes, I've been talking a lot to
a lot of people, not just this week, but for months.
Sanders did have to wait five rounds before getting drafted.
You know how they do those winners and losers draft articles.
What if Sanders falls into both categories, and I'll explain
(01:32):
the good dudes again again. He had to wait five
rounds before getting drafted, And the irony is he's not
in a bad spot all things considered. He's got a
realistic chance to make a name for himself with the Browns.
Will he beat out Joe Flacco? No, he will not
beat out Joe Flacco. Will he beat out Kenny Pickett? No,
he will not beat out Kenny Pickett. Deshaun Watson at
(01:53):
this point, you might as well just trade Deshaun Watson
for a horse and did shoot the horse. I don't
really mean that I'm doing radio, Okay, I don't really
mean that. Horse lovers. I love horses. I love mister Red,
I love the mall. Okay, work with me. We're just
having a little fun here on a Saturday night, Sunday morning,
depending on where you may be listening. So, Dylan Gabriel,
I think in Shudoor Sanders will ballot out for some
(02:16):
sort of role on that team. But in the best
case scenario, Sanders somehow finds his way in the field
this year, maybe even starts a game. We'll see the
worst case scenario, they're not gonna cut him, but he
might be on the bench, but he'll get to learn
Joe Flacco knows a thing or two. Okay, laugh, clown laughed,
Joe Flacco can play. The likelihood though, of a you know,
(02:41):
a guy like Joe Flacco make it to the entire
season without so much as a hangnail is not likely.
So Sanders is gonna get a chance, which is all
you can ask for in life, an opportunity, and you
make the most of your opportunity, which he said he
would do. Now the bad news, Yes, the good news
Shodor Sanders was drafted, But the bad news is he
(03:04):
basically lost out on about thirteen million dollars. See if
Shador Sanders had been taken in the first round, let's
say what the twenty first pick, he would have gotten
a rookie contract with about eighteen million dollars. Instead, he
was taken in the fifth round, and now he'll be
getting a four year deal that's worth roughly five million,
(03:25):
which is a million less than he made his nil
deal last year at Colorado. Also, he got drafted. You
tell me, you tell me if this is a feel
good moment, it is, but it is it. He got
drafted by a team that passed him over six times
before they actually decided to take him. All right, that happens, well,
(03:49):
does it? But that wouldn't be the end of the world.
And still not the end of the world. Wouldn't be
so bad if he'd been the only quarterback the Browns drafted.
But hell, they actually took one before, when they selected
Dylan Gabriel lot of Oregon at ninety fourth overall. I
don't know why everybody's been pissing all over Dylan Gabriel today.
He's small. No, he's not. He's a good player. He's
a hell of a player. Did a lot of Oregon.
(04:10):
He went into ann Arbor and picked apart that Wolverine defense.
I don't think Shudor Sanders would have done that. So
this is a bit of a bizarre draft strategy the
Browns have. What are you gonna do? I'll tell you
what I'm gonna do. I'm gonna watch. I already can't
wait for the NFL season. I will tell you this, though,
I will hope memo to HBO get Cleveland on Hard Knocks.
(04:35):
Who else would you rather have than Cleveland on Hard Knocks?
All right, I've said my piece. Well let's get to
the elephant in the room. Why the slide? All right?
I live in Vegas. I know a year last year,
you know, in May Shoodoor Sanders was listed at the
odds on favorite to be the first player picked overall.
(04:58):
Why that I meant nothing that in fifty cents, I'll
get you a cup of coffee Crystal Burger. That's a
market line put out by a you know, a book
maker who's not on the prediction business, who's not on
a fortune telling business. He's in the business to maximize
profit and minimize risk. So that wasn't necessarily a predictor.
(05:22):
And look, if someone's got better data than me, feel
free to tweet, aut in he or whatever, do whatever
you got to even call during the midnight hour. I
talked to a lot of people in the last five months.
What if I told you I was told by a
mole that I trust that she George Sanders ran a
four eight forty. That's why he didn't go to all
(05:42):
these pre workouts and et cetera. That again, that in
and of itself doesn't matter. He could still be a
Hall of Fame quarterback. I'd run a four eight to forty.
But let's not get ahead of ourselves. Why the slide?
This is the story. What in the hell happened here
that caused everybody, from mel Kuiper to the to President
(06:03):
Trump to lose? Everybody weighted on this is if it
was some god given right that Shudor Sanders has to
be drafted in the top five because his PR team
said so, because sanders agents said so, because the group
think echo chambers started to leak, and when one person
said it, another person repeated it. The notion he was
(06:24):
ever going to be drafted second or third overall is preposterous.
I'm sorry. There are objective truths and there are personal feelings.
We're gonna deal with facts tonight, not feelings. And let
me get something else off my chest while I'm at it,
because there was so much michigas after Friday's draft, when
Shudoor Sanders not only you know, made it through Thursday undrafted,
(06:48):
but Friday, oh my god, the teeth gnashing there must
be conspiracy. There must be collusions. Well, Sue, let's call
Johnny cochrane. We can't have this. He's got a god.
They've been right to be drafted high. We all said
it was so. Yeah. The only people this is these
are the facts. The only people who seemed confident that
(07:08):
Sanders would be a top ten selection. Again, I'll repeat
where Sanders, Shiloh Sanders, Dion Sanders, Deon Sanders, Junior Shador Sanders,
Colonel Sanders, anybody named Sanders and his agents and his
PR team. You know, Chador had opportunities at the Shrine
(07:30):
Bowl in the Combine to compete and prove he was
ready to lead an NFL team right away maybe next season,
and he opted against both. You know what, you don't
hide strength in life. Instead, he was claiming his college
tape was all NFL teams needed to see. Now, one
of the things they kept coming up last night was, oh, Hooker,
(07:54):
thirty two teams passed at him three rounds in a row. Okay,
I'm gonna throw my first flag. Thirty two teams did
not pass on them in this draft. If you just
take a closer look, at least twenty of those thirty
two teams were not in the market for a quarterback.
Not up in here, not here, no way. Maybe twelve,
more like eight. So you can say between eight and
(08:17):
twelve teams passed on them the first three rounds, the
first two days and including into the fourth round, but
not thirty two. So lose that narrative because it's false.
It's playing fast and loose with the truth. One team
passed on them six times, they ended up drafting them.
The second thing is, and this was coming out of
(08:40):
the mouths of a lot of talking heads on TV
that I actually respect. I'm not going to name names,
but these are guys I think to do a clean
job that have been around, and they kept saying, oh,
it's personal, Well now it's personal. Yeah, it must say
it's personal. Hello, it's always personal. As someone who covered
ten drafts the Lions, it's part of the pre and
(09:01):
post covered the organization for fourteen years, kept all my
foot Look, you have no idea to scrutiny they put
these guys through. You know, Shdarra Sanders may never start
a game in the NFL. He's gonna get five million bucks. Okay,
that's good work if you can get it. So the
truth of the matter is, you know what I'm and
(09:22):
I'm later on in the show, maybe probably closer to
the one Am hour, I'm going to share with you
exactly how the NFL evaluates draft prospects. And a lot
of it is scouting in film reviews. A lot of
it's the combine which he led them not to go
to Schador character background and say and I know, shoot,
door has never been in trouble. Whoop? Do you damn?
Speaker 3 (09:42):
Do?
Speaker 2 (09:42):
Is that the new standard? Well, it has never been
in trouble. Okay, great, that's your baseline. Okay, I want
to go back to what I said. It's always personal.
It's always personal. You get to know these guys and
they you got to fall in love with them. Now
I'll tell you how personal it is. I believe it
was the two thousand I'm gonna say it was a
(10:02):
two thousand and sixth sixth draft. The Lions passed down
a defensive player. Wait for it, I'm gonna give you
the reason. This is the level of scrutiny. And while
it's always personal, the Lions passed on in the two
thousand and six draft. This is Rod Marinelli's first year
because the player had wait for it, bad breath, true
(10:24):
story spoke. It set something about the player that just
turned the Lions off towards the Lions. You know that
was two years later they would go oh in sixteen
and the rest is history. We don't need to go
down that road. So the truth of the matter is
this slide happened because it was never supposed to happen
(10:45):
in the first place. The only people are not in cake.
That's bad English. The slide happened because the notion that
he would be a top five or top ten. Nobody
I talked to connected to the NFL who didn't have
an agenda did not great him as a first round pick.
And if you've listened to my show the last six weeks,
I've said that. I've said, look, he didn't have that
(11:06):
one elite tool, he doesn't have that one superpower. There
are a lot of other things I'm not going to break.
And you know what he's going to get on the field. Good.
I'm glad he got drafted. Don't tell me, show me
all right. Shador thought all NFL teams needed to see
was his college table. Turned out it wasn't. And frankly,
I will say this about Shudor his approach to the
(11:28):
pre draft process should be a lesson and what not
to do for future quarterbacks. You know, by the way,
for those who thought the NFL was teaching Shudor a lesson,
now they don't teach lessons. They want too busy trying
to win games. If you think there was collusion, if
you think there was some conspiracy, you're out of your mind.
These owners can't agree where to go for lunch, much
(11:48):
less have somebody dictate, dictate one of these guys dictate
to another another one of these billionaires who to take
or who not to take. Okay, this though, should be
a bit of a primer and a cautionary tale for
what not to do. If you're a future quarterback and
you really want to be in the NFL. You just
cannot simply declare yourself something you aren't and hope nobody
(12:10):
checks you on it. The reality here is Sanders is
a good football player. He's a quality prospect. He's someone
who could theoretically eventually turned into a functional starter so
long as he's surrounded by talent and a good offensive line.
But the questions about his arm talent, his size, his
pocket processing, and general overconfidence were very real. If you
(12:32):
don't like that hearing that, that is a you problem.
And by the way, I hope someone's done a wellness
check on mel Kuiper. I like mel Kuiper forty years
ago he created a cottage industry which has now become
a conglomerate. But man, did he lose his mind. We're
going to get to that later. Be ready to roll
(12:53):
tonight in the midnight hour. Coming up in about forty
six minutes. I'm going to take the shador in a
different angle and let you be judge jury and judge
and jury. All right, you'll see the angle I'm gonna
go down. You're gonna like and it'll draw from milk
Kuiper's rant. By the way, draft coverage on Fox Sports

Aravaca in the Bernie Frattle Show. Coming to live for
the Fox Sports Radio Las Vegas compound will take it
to three m Pacific, six am Eastern. Yeah, believe it
or not, there was more going out in the world
today than the Shudoor Sanders saga. Easy for me to say,
So let's bring on our guy. It's that time. Mark
(14:22):
Medina Medina Magic comes every Saturday night in the Bernie
Frattle Show, our Fox Sports Radio NBA Guru, all Things NBA. Mark,
I want to pick up where I left off last week.
I made a bold statement that I believed that the
Clippers actually had a more favorable path to getting past
the Nuggets than the Lakers did against the Timberwolves. So
(14:46):
right out of the gate, today and just fantastic. Is
so clipper esque fashion, fall behind by twenty lose on
a slam dunk buzzer beater first time in NBA history.
They were so in love with all the three point
they made last game, they tried it again today or Saturday.
I think, you know where I'm trying to go with this.
Let's start with the Clippers. Mark. They're a good team,
(15:08):
but they I don't know what it is and what
you got the floor?
Speaker 5 (15:11):
Yeah, I mean, what it is is that this is
a competitive series that's going to keep going back and forth.
And what's going to happen in Game five and Tuesday
is anybody's guests, Because I think the first two games
established it was going to go down to the wire.
It's going to come down a single few possessions. But
then when the Clippers blew the Nuggets out in Game three,
I thought, you know what, the Nuggets are gas and
(15:32):
the Clippers are finally healthy and ready to turn it
up a notch. And then all of a sudden that
thought will up in my face today when we saw
the Nuggets, you know, prevail in theatrical fashion. He mentioned,
you know, this is the first time in NBA history
basically since the play by player that there was a
game winning buzzer beating dunk and thanks to Aaron Gordon
(15:54):
for catching Nikole Jokic's airball or as Aaron Gordon said,
a really nice pass. But it preludes that. I mean,
the Nuggets are very resilient. Obviously, Nikoli Jokic, he's always
going to put up numbers with points and with rebounds
and assists. But I thought early in the series everyone
(16:14):
else just wasn't having it. You know, Michael Porter Junior
was having an injury with his shoulder. Jamal Murray's been
up and down, and he still had a poor shooting
night in Game four thirteen points, five to seventeen shooting.
But they're a resilient team, and so you know, I
think I don't think the Clippers discounted them. But what's
(16:36):
going to happen in Game five is that not only
is it given that Kawhi Leonard, James Harden and Viatz
Zubots have to play at their best, they also got
to make defensive stops, and as you saw in Game four,
they weren't able to do that, especially at the worst
opportune time as the buzzer sounded and no one accounted
for Aaron Gordon gained a rebound.
Speaker 2 (16:57):
Mark I honestly felt like Saturday was a state game
for the Nuggets. They serve notice that they still have
championship medal. This was setting up for the Clippers to
go up three to one. Aaron Gordon's playing with un
arm no, Russell Westbrook has actually been, you know, pretty
good recently, and Nicole Joki served notice once again that hey,
I'm the best player in the world and I could
(17:19):
put this team on my back. And by the way,
before I forget this was that an airball? It was
a a Lorenzo Charles thorough Bailey airball. Jimmy Valvano, Aaron
Gordon miraculously caught anyway is sliced it. They won the game.
But that's how good this team is. I think the
Clippers are in big trouble now. Honestly, I know I
don't want to be prisoner of the moment, but I
(17:40):
just don't like what I saw today.
Speaker 5 (17:42):
Well, what wasn't good is the Nuggets took home court
advantage back. Obviously, as you mentioned, the confidence is back there.
The other thing is they have now some time to
rest and recover. I mean, this was a very short
turnaround for both teams, playing a Thursday evening game and
then playing you know, Saturday afternoon. And even though they
didn't have to travel, that's still a tight itinerary here.
(18:04):
They go back to Denver, but they don't have to
play until Tuesday. The Clippers face a hostile environment. They
have to handle the altitude. But I think what we're
seeing here, it's a seven game series, and anything can happen.
It's a four or five matchup. There's not much separation
between the two games. So you know, strapper seepbelt on
and enjoy the ride and eat some popcorn while you're
(18:26):
at it, because it's going to be very entertaining.
Speaker 2 (18:28):
It's going to be very entertaining. But as someone who's
covered a bazillion of these series, I look for things
that transfer, that transfer to the next game. I'm sure
you noticed today, Mark that Denver very aggressively double team
Kawhi and James Harden and they forced other players to
beat him, and they couldn't do it. The supporting cast
(18:49):
couldn't step up. I look for that same type of
aggressive double teaming defense in Denver. Can the Clippers make
the necessary adjustments and execute.
Speaker 5 (18:58):
They definitely can. I think the thing about the playoffs
that's fascinating. It's very contradictory as you're right that there
can be carryover things. But because teams can make adjustments,
they can quickly change course here and so you know,
the Clippers do have depth. Someone like Norman Powell, he
hit shots, he showed up, but I think was the
tomb didn't have a good shooting night. Neither did Chris
(19:21):
Don and those are guys that usually step up in
the moment. And the other thing is, you know Kawhi
Leonard of Vicha Zoobots and James Harden. They still produced
at a high level. It wasn't as prolific as in
other games, but the Clippers have the recipe to bounce back.
They have the resiliency. Tylo has the coaching shops to make,
(19:45):
you know, adjustments, and they do have a formulable a bench.
I would also add Derek Jones Jor. He's no more
to the defensive guru, but he also compliments the team
with some additional scoring punch with easy baskets. So as
as much as the Nuggets are in control of the
series now I don't think they're right away with it
(20:05):
with the batam. This is very much a drag it
out a fair entertaining playoff series. I could go down
to wire in any game, and because of that, I
think it's going to go seven games. And what's going
to happen really is anybody's guests fair enough?
Speaker 2 (20:20):
I accept that. Let's move along to the Rockets Warriors,
because I got the Warriors also served notice shrewd decision
sitting Jimmy Butler. The first thing I want to ask
you is what is the status of Butler's recovery and
availability for Game four and Monday? For the simple reason,
the Warriors have a legitimate chance to seize a two
(20:41):
game lead. So do you dare risk putting Jimmy Butler
on the floor to try to make that happen? What's
the thought here?
Speaker 5 (20:49):
Yeah, I don't know. If it was shrewd, it was
he wasn't healthy enough to play. I mean pretty simple
as that. If he had any ounce of being able
to play without risking for their injury, he would. If
it was just a pain tolerance issue, Jimmy Butler would,
but he wasn't. What his status is. It's day to day.
So you know, it helps that the Warriors won the game.
(21:11):
It helps that they have some time to recover for
Jimmy Butler to heal, but they have no idea. This
is one of these injuries that is very sensitive. I mean,
we saw in game two that hard fall that he took.
I mean that was very painful to watch. And that's
saying something because Jimmy Butler has a pretty high time
pain tolerance. So does that mean he can recover in
(21:32):
time to play Monday's Game four in the Bay Area.
I would guess yes, but it's very up in the air.
But what they did is they relied on a heavy
dose of Steph Curry and basically played him as much
as they could. Forty one minutes, he produced at a
high level thirty six points, had nine to sixths. And
I think that the thing that I'm not surprised about.
(21:55):
After talking to his personal trainer of brain and pain
earlier this week after Game two, he had a sense
of texting with Steph Curry that he was going to
make the adjustments to adapt the physicality, get him better looks,
improve with taking care of the ball as well as,
you know, making sure his teammates could rise at the
moment because outside of Draymond Green, a lot of his
(22:17):
teammates haven't really been prepared to play in the playoffs.
But you know, someone like Buddy Heell provide a lot
of secondary scoring Gary Payton the second he's part of
that championship team in twenty twenty two, he provides some
additional scoring punch. But it really came down to let's
just ride steph Curry, play him a lot of minutes
and hope that is enough. And so far in one
(22:39):
game it was well.
Speaker 2 (22:40):
Until the fourth quarter. My observation was slightly different. Houston
focused so much defensive attention on Curry that when the
fourth quarter rolled around, the afore mentioned Gary Payton, who
you just ended up with sixteen points, he got loose
a few times. Buddy Heel had one of his best
games seventeen points, five threes, Quinton Post, twelve rebounds, Johnson Kaminga.
(23:05):
They all stepped up and did what they needed to do.
They did what the Clipper supporting cast couldn't do. And
Draymond Green, who has become still old reliable, anchored that
defense and clapped down. I mean, the Rockets were held
to twenty two points in the fourth quarter. So I
feel like Golden State really stole that game today, even
(23:26):
though the marginal victory was better, and they stole it
with role players. Just my observation.
Speaker 5 (23:34):
Yeah, I mean, it starts with Steph Curry, but it's
a trickle down effect that because of the fact that
rightfully so, he was gained a lot of the defensive
emphasis the Warriors had to play and b I think
the Rockets made the calculation that, you know, what are
the percentages, what are the odds of putting one defender
on Steph Curry and how much held defeat them versus
(23:58):
darn some of his team it's to make open shots. Now.
You know, they rose to the moment, but I think
they calculated that if they didn't put enough defensive pressure
on Steph, maybe he goes off for fifty plus. But
you know, the Warriors, to their credit, they rose to
that moment. And it also illustrated something that if Jimmy
(24:18):
Butler is back now they're even more dangerous because Steph
Curry was having this kind of you know, benefit of
not always having to carry the workload. The fact that
Jimmy's getting free throws the faculty's game to the rim.
It's additional scoring punch. It's also freeing help, freeing him
up for more open looks. But with or without Jimmy,
(24:40):
maybe that can still be a benefit that Steph can
enjoy because his other teammates arise at the moment. As
we saw in this regular season, that wasn't always sustainable,
hence why the Warriors got Jimmy Butler. But in the playoffs,
you know, sometimes it's rhnalin rush and those battle tests
and moments bring out the best and players, and we
(25:00):
saw that in Game three for the Warriors, tied.
Speaker 2 (25:03):
With Mark Medina Medina Magic. Every Saturday night here on
the Bernie Frattle Show, All Things NBA, Marcus Are, Fox
Sports Radio, NBA Guru. All right, let's jump to the
tea Wolves and Lakers. This is just absolute much must
watch TV for me on Sunday, and I want to
give you two areas of concern for the Lakers while
(25:25):
making no prediction about Sunday's game. We talked about this
when we signed off last Saturday. There's some carryover things
I'm concerned about if you're a Lakers fan. The Wolves
dominated points in the paint Friday Night, fifty six to
twenty six. They only had eleven turnovers to the Lakers nineteen.
They doubled on fast break points. And oh, by the way,
what's the latest on Luca and the stomach flu because
(25:47):
clearly it was bothering him.
Speaker 5 (25:50):
Yeah, well, a few things unpacked. What you asked about
Luca doctors. He's going to play now, does that mean
he's going to be effective? We don't know. He wasn't
effective in games. He gut it out and try to compete,
but he didn't shoot the ball well. Seventeen point six
or sixteen shooting. Yeah, he had eight seven rebounds. They
also had five turnovers. He was feeling so ill that
(26:11):
he couldn't even start the second half, and so you
would think having an extra day to recover, you know,
do whatever you needed to do to get this bug
out of your system. He'll do. But that's not a guarantee.
The other part I think is even more troubling because
that's been beyond one game. The defensive issues. They haven't
been able to defend on the perimeter, they haven't been
(26:33):
able to defend in the paint, they haven't been able
to take care of the ball route and that has
resulted in the world's getting easy baskets, and you and
I have discussed the Lakers here. I have multiple times
about their defense. I always thought that their defense wasn't
sustainable because they're getting by on effort more than talent
post Andy Davis. But I think the disappointing thing with
(26:56):
the Lakers so far in the playoffs is, I want
to be clear, they are. It's not like they're not
giving effort, but I don't see the same kind of
focused intensity that they had in the regular season when
it comes to defense. And usually it's an other way around,
where in the playoffs you start dialing up as far
as attention to detail, and I just haven't seen that defensively,
(27:18):
and that's really what's going to make or break whether
they can get in the first round, because we've seen
Lebron James, even at forty years old, he's going to
have good nights, but that's not enough if they don't
defend well.
Speaker 2 (27:31):
Mark. There's another aspect of this series I want to
put on the table that I don't think is being
talked about. The first two games, both teams had three
days rest, and then they had three days rest between
Games two and three, but all of a sudden you
got Friday night, and Game four is a quick turnaround,
you get a two thirty local tip time on Sunday.
(27:55):
Here's the question, how much gas in the tank did
Austin Reeves, Luka Doncic and Lebron James burn up on
Friday night? And how much do they have left? They
all played more than forty minutes. And to your point
about Luca, it wasn't just his offensive numbers. You could
see he was really sick. I watched you moving without
(28:15):
the ball. He looked like he was running in quicksand so, yeah,
a lot's unpacked there. But your thoughts, and I'm going
to ask for a prediction on who you think prevails Sunday.
Speaker 5 (28:28):
Yeah, as far as you know the quick turnaround, I mean,
Aunston Reeves is a young player, so you know whether
he performs well or he struggles. I don't think it's
going to have to do with the fact that he's
fatigued or not. It's just that he's got to be
more consistent. It's an execution thing. I think the short
turnaround is more of a concern with Lebron James and
Luka doncicch for Luca because of what I was mentioning,
(28:50):
he still hasn't fully recovered from his stomach bug. You know,
as we could probably all attest. Sometimes all it takes
is a day for everything to get out of your system.
But it's also not guaranteed. With Lebron James, you know,
it's always day to day. I mean, he is very
capable of having the kind of knights that he had
(29:10):
in Game three, where he's getting thirty eight points, ten rebounds.
Forces define father time, but father time also has a
way of knocking on the door at the most inopportune moments.
And so I think it's also very telling that ever
since the playoffs started, when reporters have asked him how
is he feeling, you know, with his health and overcoming
(29:32):
the left growing injury late in the season, all he
says is I'm available. You know what that means, Bernie,
He's at fully one hundred percent. He's just getting by
because that's what he does. So yeah, it's very much concerning.
And so what my prediction is is I think the
Worlds are in control of the series, and I think
that they will win Sunday. I thought that I thought
(29:55):
that whoever won Game three would wind up winning the series,
and here we are, so anything can happen here. I
could be proven wrong, but so far the Wolves are
showing a lot more positive trends than the Lakers are.
Speaker 2 (30:08):
Maybe Lebron's being fitted for a cast. Remember that series
a few years ago when they lost, and all of
a sudden, he's at a press conference with a cast.
I'm sorry, I have to take my gratuitous shot at
Lebron every time we talk.
Speaker 5 (30:22):
No, I expect your Saturday.
Speaker 2 (30:25):
I don't forget to try to semi boneless spaghetti. I'm
near all week. Look, you've had your finger on the
pulse of this team all year, and the one thing
you said is it's fluid. So what it surprised me
if the Lakers came out on Sunday and flex the
muscle in one by eight. No, it wouldn't. There's just
some troubling signs, so Sunday would be a referendum. And
(30:46):
I'm gonna have one last question on the Lakers that
might bring down the house. But first I want to
switch gears, uh and put a Kappa on Nico in Dallas?
Why did he have this press conference and say, gee,
I didn't really realize how much I love Luca. Look
all he's got to say is one thing I was
talking about, Buddy Jay ship about this. Just tell the truth.
I did not want to pay this guy three undred
(31:06):
and fifty million dollars. That's my right. This is my team,
this is how we roll. I've been with him three
or four years, all due respect, God bless him. I
don't want to pay him three hundred and fifty million.
End the story. But he keeps on dragging this out
and dredging it up, and I don't know what fruitful
purpose it serves. Am I reading that wrong?
Speaker 5 (31:26):
You're reading some things right. I think you're reading something's wrong.
As far as like why he had this press conference, Yeah,
teams typically always the front office always has ended the
season media availability, so that's nothing different. I think the
more puzzling part is the previous press conference he had
before the season even ended, on the eve of their
playing tournament, where they had all these weird parameters of
(31:49):
no cameras allowed and initially no recording devices allowed. At
least later on the recording devices were allowed. You know,
the thing that was really foot in the mouth is
what you were saying that, you know, Nico admitting Oh,
he had no idea that you know there would be
such a negative backlash among fans. I mean, how can
(32:10):
you not realize that a homegrown NBA superstar is going
to be beloved. That's number one. Number two though, the
idea of just saying it's just fessing up and now
we don't want to pay him, I think that that
can also wreak bad optics that you know, this team
is cheap and they don't want to spend blah blah blah.
All they need to do is think and concede that
(32:34):
Luka Doncis is a great player and there are a
lot of tough decisions to be made, but they felt
that short and long term this was the best decision
moving forward and leave it at the end of that.
They don't need to get into the negative parts of
his conditioning on or off the record, or even defend
the trade now because the injuries are the injuries that
(32:58):
he should just say, we may what we felt was
the best decision at the time, and obviously it's been
tough now, but we feel that long term it's going
to play out to our advantage and that's all he
needs to do. He shouldn't get into we don't want
to pay him because that just looks bad to the
paying customers about Hey, this organization doesn't want to spend money.
Speaker 2 (33:18):
And I've certainly in my years in Detroit and need
heared you covering U and OV covered many of those
end of the season press conferences. I just think, how
about looking forward instead of backward and stop regurgitating this Mark.
I'm going to save my Lakers question for next week.
It's pretty powerful. Let's see if they win this series
or not, and it'll have more context. But already looking
(33:38):
forward to next week.
Speaker 5 (33:39):
Mark, all right, Bud, looking forward to it. I'm sure
we'll talk about Bronnie James as well.
Speaker 2 (33:43):
Oh Man, an omission, an air of omission on my part.
All right, Bud, have a good week, have a good
week ahead. By the way, be sure to check out

up in just a second. I think you know where
I'm going. By the way, draft coverage on Fox Sports

(35:11):
I don't want to analyze anymore. We can touch on
it and why the slide so on and so forth.
But if you saw mel Kiper globalistic, it's not the
first time I has done this. He believes in his observations,
in his research, and he stands by them. And so
now this is the question I'm putting out to the callers,
because Chador has a real opportunity to redeem himself, as
(35:35):
it were. Incredibly, he's now joined the likes of Brett
Favre and Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady and Dan Marino
who five other quarterbacks are drafted ahead of him as well,
and the legendary Warren Moon, who, for my money, had
the greatest injustice in the history of the NFL imposed
upon him in nineteen seventy eight. Absolute crime. And someday
(35:56):
I'll tell the story on the air. But what a joke.
The truth of the matter is all those players were
passed over or delayed their their selections were delayed, and
mel Kiper said, they all went on and proved him wrong.
Fall Farv won a Super Bowl, Rogers won a Super Bowl.
Brady I think he won a Super Bowl. They didn't
(36:17):
have to check. Dan Marino got through Super Bowl. But
you know, redefined passing in the NFL in the eighties,
and of course Roar and Rune legend. Okay, and they're
not the only ones that were overlooked as it were,
or passed over or slid in the draft. So do
you expect shoudor Sanders to take this torch and carry
it and join the likes Afar, Rogers, Brady Marino, et cetera,
(36:42):
Warren Moon and prove whatever dowters he had wrong, get
Cleveland to the playoffs, whatever the case may be. He
doesn't have to win a super Bowl to redeem himself.
Let's just see what kind of career he has. But
the truth of the matter is the way this happened today,
slid all the way to one forty four, by the way,
in the odd in the odd coincidence, Sam Howell was
also drafted one forty four. Who just acquired him well,
(37:03):
a team that needed a quarterback Minnesota. I'll be damn
can't make this stuff up. So I want to hear
from you on Shudor. Okay, will he? Will he come
back and have the last laugh? As mel Kuiper said,
We've got people tweeting people are gonna regret not taking Shador.
Let's see if they're right. I want to hear from
the callers eight seven, seven, nine to nine on Fox
(37:24):
eight seven, seven, nine, nine, sixty six, three sixty nine.
What kind of career do you predict for Shador Sanders.
Is he gonna be another Brett Favre or is he
gonna be Giovanni Carmazzi? Google it. The second thing is
it was Dion really the reason teams avoided him. I'm
not buying that these are NFL franchise I'm not worried
(37:47):
about Dion now. One of their issues is the only
coach Shoodor's ever played for is Dion. He didn't have
to beat anybody out in high school, he didn't have
to beat anybody out at Jackson State, and he didn't
have to beat anybody out of car Colorado. Be a
little different in the NFL. Now, he did have one
scholarship offer to Florida Atlantic, intended not to go elected,
not to go Okay, so look, you know where I'm
(38:12):
going with this. Will as mel Kuiper said, should or
prove his doubters wrong. You know where I'm going with that. Also,
as part of the reason for this slide was it Dion.
I'm not really buying that it might have been a
factor for some teams that I'm having a hard time
and part B why not his partner in Colorado, Travis Hunter.
(38:34):
Will they allow him to go both ways? In Jacksonville?
Should they allow him to go both ways? I say yes?
How does it manifest itself as a practical matter. You're
not going to play one hundred and sixty snaps, that's stupid.
They're gonna be logistical issues because every week in the
NFL you install a new defensive game plan and his
scheme with different personnel groupings. He's gonna have you. He
can't climb two mounds at the same time. But I
(38:57):
would playhim full time on defense, and then I would
create and packages for him on offense. You know, maybe
get on the field sixteen to twenty snaps on offense.
That the way you're getting the best of both worlds. Hey,
late in the game, you got to move the change.
You're in the red zone. I'll tell you what you're
on offense, chardor check that Travis would be nice to
have in the field, wouldn't instead of standing on the sidelines. Meanwhile,
maybe you're trying to hold a three point lead late
(39:18):
in the game and third and seven I think you
want Travis locking down one of their best receivers. So
it's gonna be the shaudor Travis show tonight. Will Shudorf Sanders,
as mel Kiper said, redeem himself and have all these
teams regret not taking What kind of careers are you
gonna have? Also? Was Dion really part of the reason
or the reason? Chador fell? I want to get your
(39:40):
thoughts and will Travis get to go both ways in
the NFL? I say they should let them how they
do it, that's a different story. Eight seven seven ninety
nine on Fox eight seven seven nine to nine six
six three six y nine. The callers, you've been fantastic.
Let's do it again tonight. Dial them up. You're listening
to the Bernie Frauler Show that our Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (40:03):
Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 2 (40:06):

Every now and then we have a topic that is
(40:49):
a either that sensational or that polarizing, however you want
to characterize it. Tonight might be one of those nights,
so we do want to hear from all of you. Yep,
it's that time to in that hour. All right, here
we go. You know it's going to be a rockets
be in that hour when Jim from Massachusetts leads us
off with a Ricky Henderson lead off home run. Jim,
(41:09):
you've got the floor. You know where to take it.
Speaker 5 (41:12):
Bernie my man. Hey, the thing with Shaka.
Speaker 6 (41:16):
You know, hey, he got drafted where he got drafted.
I think a lot of people, you know, up front offices,
it's not about Dion because a lot of them weren't
around when.
Speaker 5 (41:28):
Dion was around.
Speaker 6 (41:29):
So I don't think it has so much to do
with his dad I think they got the drift on Shaka,
that he's a little bit of a head case, you know,
a little bit of privilege and in that and they
just didn't want to invest the money in the early
rounds to pay him and see if he becomes a
star in the later rounds. Now, you look, it doesn't
matter when you got drafted.
Speaker 5 (41:49):
You got drafted.
Speaker 2 (41:49):
Well, that's the reason I sayed, right.
Speaker 6 (41:52):
The reason I say that is like, look at Mike Piazza.
He got drafted two hundred and sixty seventh so baseball
and he's in the Hall. You know, it's all about
what you make. You get the opportunity, Let's see what
you make.
Speaker 7 (42:04):
Make it up.
Speaker 2 (42:05):
So what do you think Dion will Or with Holmia
there's a Freudian slip. What do you think shud Or
will do with his opportunity, As mal Kiper said, will
he prove teams wrong? Will he make teams regret not
taking him? Will he get Cleveland to the Promised Land?
Speaker 6 (42:21):
I think I think he'll be a decent quarterback. I
think he'll he'll show teams that they missed on him.
But Bertie football is the is the worst of all sports.
I mean, your career could be over in practice in
one play. So it's you know, all those guys they
just roll the dice. But I just think that he's
just a little bit too much of a head case.
(42:42):
He grew up in privilege. I mean, there's nothing wrong
with that, but I just I think that's what turned
most of the franchise in the way. But like you said,
there's only ten teams out of thirty two looking for
a quarterback. So you know, we'll say, you know, it'll
be it'll be a good story, you know.
Speaker 2 (43:00):
A great story. By the way, real quickly. Will Jacksonville
let Travis play both ways?
Speaker 6 (43:06):
Yes, I think you had the best analogy on that.
I think defense wins games. I think that's where they're
gonna play him, and when any of those receivers need
a spot breath, you know, they're gonna pop him in
there and he's gonna make some place. You know. I
think that that was the that was the best steel
in the draft, moving up and doing that. I don't
(43:27):
know what Cleveland has in the front front office. I mean,
those got Jacksonville got in the front office. But I
think that was a diamond in the rough they got there.
Speaker 2 (43:36):
Yeah, you know all right, Bell, all right, Jim, appreciate
you as always. Stephen, Kansas City. Welcome back in, Buddy,
Welcome into the Bernie Frader Show.
Speaker 8 (43:43):
Hey, Bernie, good to talk to you to night.
Speaker 9 (43:46):
You know.
Speaker 8 (43:47):
I mean on this subject, there's probably gonna be movies
and TV shows and magazine.
Speaker 5 (43:53):
Articulture written about this.
Speaker 8 (43:56):
Here's what I what I think happened is that I
think that the old man has nothing to do with Dion.
I don't think Dion even cares. I mean, I honestly,
he always had a wink in his eye with the
swag and everything, and people people loved him for it.
You can tell by those commercials with Nick Saban he's
still he's still popular. That what happened was is I
(44:19):
think the kid thought that he could go to Pittsburgh
or Cleveland or somewhere better if he kind of, you know,
went to that interview and then showed him up a
little bit, and and we find out what happens when
you don't present yourself, you know, truthfully, or will blow
(44:40):
him off or whatever. The kid learned a valuable lesson,
and I think he's I think he's taking it. He's
taking it well. Now he may not ever be a great,
a truly great, great player. But this may be more
valuable than than any sort of millions. You know that
that sort of like stay stay humble etho, that anybody
(45:01):
can be knocked down, anybody doesn't matter who you are,
who your daddy is. Anybody can be can be knocked
down and knocked down a few pegs. And I think
that's exactly what happened today.
Speaker 2 (45:13):
Or all right, So the bottom line is real quickly,
do you think he goes on as mel Kiper said,
does your door go on to you know, make many
teams regret not taking him.
Speaker 8 (45:26):
I think he's a he's a he could be a
good quarterback. He could be an average quarterback. I just
don't want him. I just I think this is great.
I mean, I think this is all these all these
pundits are acting like this is this is terrible. I
wish they would have done this to Eli Manning when
he pulled the pulled that big move with his dad.
(45:48):
I wish they would have done the same thing. You
gotta you gotta knock these kids down a few pigs
when they get in the league, and the NBA makes
them carry luggage. So so I mean I'm all for
I'm all for this, and and let me tell you
about Travis Hunter. I mean, the rumor was in Colorado
spring game. This guy is going to change football forever.
(46:09):
So so just just keep it. Keep an eye on
this guy. He is he is, he is fantastic. I mean,
I think it's it's going to be something completely unexpected
for most people to see a real a real two
way player. It's kind of ironic that his coach was
was Prime Time. But yeah, I've got nothing against the kid.
(46:30):
I think Shador is a nice is going to be
a perfectly nice young man. But sometimes it's just good
to slap these kids down a few notches. You know.
It makes them keep the humble, keeps some, keep some
better personal. I mean, swag does not get you in
the Hall of Fame. You know, that's just that's just
how most old guys will see it. You know, that's
(46:50):
why this is such an interesting topic, because you know,
it's sort of new generation versus old generation. I think
the old the old generation one today.
Speaker 2 (47:00):
All right, thanks for checking in, buddy, I always appreciate
your perspectives. I don't believe that the NFL had intended
to slap him down or teach him a lesson. They
got bigger fish to fry than that. I think that
ended up being somewhat the byproduct, and this could be
a blessing in disguise. Look when you go to a team.
I've said this about Dan Moreno. He benefited tremendously from
(47:22):
being taken six in nineteen eighty three because he went
to a team, the Miami Dolphins, who'd been in the
Super Bowl the year before, so she was surrounded by
a great roster. He went to play for John don Shula,
a true quarterback whisperer, and because he fell so far,
the expectations were much lower and he set the world
on fire. So let's see if Shaduur has a similar career.
Tony and Los Angeles. Welcome in, Tony. How you doing, Buddy?
Speaker 10 (47:43):
Hey Bernie. If the Pac twelve had stayed intact, Shadur
would have been exposed against Oregon, Washington and Utah and
maybe someone else. And if he had gone to the
Big Ten with the big the teams that went to
the Big Ten, he would have been really exposed. So
who were the best teams that he played against last year?
And how well did he do against him.
Speaker 2 (48:03):
No, you're no argument, no argument. Oregon spanked him. I
mean North Dakota State could have beat him by you
pushed him around the field, Kansas State. I've had some
of those same thoughts, Tony, So is that is that
your way of saying, I want to steal your thunder?
Speaker 1 (48:17):
Keep?
Speaker 10 (48:18):
How many of how many of those teams have NFL
level defensive players that are gonna go like, hardly any
compared to Oregon, Washington, Utah and Big ten defensive.
Speaker 2 (48:28):
Players, Tony, if if, if you've listened to my show,
particularly the past six weeks, I've said this objectively, not subjectively,
because I don't care about shoot or Sanders. If succeed,
If he succeeds, wonderful, that's good for our business. If
he fails, he joins the other trash heap of a
thousand stories from the Naked City. I have said for
(48:50):
weeks I wouldn't grade him as a first round pick
for multiple reasons. Tony, you got the floor? Is he
gonna prove everybody wrong or not?
Speaker 10 (48:56):
I think the fix was in the Cleveland owners told
everybody off Sanders. We want him, and we're gonna wait
a long time. So we don't have to pay him
luck because he makes a lot of niol.
Speaker 2 (49:05):
More are too smart for that man. There is no
there's no collusion in the NFL. These guys can't even
agree to go for a lunch. Okay, I don't mean
to shoot shoot you down there, big fel. I love
their calls, all right, Travis Hunter? Is he gonna play
both ways?
Speaker 10 (49:19):
I would I would say yes.
Speaker 2 (49:21):
I would say, hey, Tony, listen, I really appreciate you
checking in and good on you. You brought up a
lot of good context and perspective. You gave it some
texture because who you play against in college. I defended
Lamar Jackson to the hill several years ago when he
came out of Louisville. Go back and look at the
box scores when he played you SEC defenses like yeah,
(49:43):
let's you, et cetera. He did great. I defended the
hell out of Lamar Jackson when other people were on him. Christopher,
North Carolina Joint. Just welcome in, Christopher.
Speaker 11 (49:53):
Good evening, Bernie. I wanted to start with one topic
first and then tackle the second.
Speaker 2 (49:59):
Go ahead.
Speaker 11 (49:59):
Chris shout out to the USA women winning the gold
against Canada six four in over time four to three.
Go women, Thank you very much.
Speaker 2 (50:09):
So forgot to tell them. Come on, man, you can't
purry the lead there, big fella. If you're gonna break news,
what tell them which sport it was?
Speaker 7 (50:16):
Hey?
Speaker 11 (50:17):
This was in the hockey tournament for USA women in
the IATTL as it deals with women hockey as they
get ready for the Olympics.
Speaker 2 (50:28):
Go all right, let's get let's get the Chador and Travis,
what are your thoughts on those two?
Speaker 11 (50:34):
This one Shaudor last week, Like I said, this proved
one thing Schauduur was fake. Why because he wasn't able
to prove what he could do in college. This is
where they think that this is going to be the
next Tom Brady. It's not. And there's one good reason
why Where did he go? He went to Cleveland. Cleveland
(50:58):
is not a quarterback whisperer. There is no quarterback whispering Cleveland.
Where is he having the best opportunity it would have
been with a quarterback whispering team. He's not going to
do anything in Cleveland going to be a Scott Mitchell.
He's going to stumble and bumble around the league, and
he's not going to be anything other than mediocre. Think
(51:18):
about it. He really doesn't have the skills. He pretended
to be something he's not. He advertised something he won't be.
And until he can prove three things, read defenses, read whiteboards,
and understand the complexity of the NFL, he is going
to be a third string quarterback.
Speaker 2 (51:38):
Interesting. I appreciate a strong opinion, Christopher. That's what we
want here. We don't always have to agree. Listen, you
may well be right. And as many of the folks
I talk to in the past few months, for what
it's worth, facts not feelings, she do or didn't do
well on the whiteboard part of the interview again, he's
(52:00):
now stepping into a new situation. What's passed has passed
as we go forward. I don't want to hear legendary.
Don't tell me, show me, show me. Robert and Arcadia.
Welcome to the Bernie Frattleshiew. How are you.
Speaker 12 (52:14):
Hey, I'm doing well.
Speaker 13 (52:15):
I just want to speak towards Shador.
Speaker 9 (52:18):
Now.
Speaker 13 (52:19):
The last time I seen a quarterback kind of like this.
His name and you mentioned him before is Lamar Jackson
went to a program like this that's not knowingly to
be one of the top tier ones and brought him
to something. Now, he's not one of the top tier,
don't get me wrong, but to put him in the
fifth round, now that's just really breaking him down when
(52:41):
you think about what he has looked up to and
even sought, you know, grades like Tom Brady and such
to really learn, and what he just trusts his dad
and what he has done right, So that preaches a
lot of coachability.
Speaker 12 (52:55):
Now.
Speaker 13 (52:55):
I see all the other stuff about him having a
big head, but I would love a competent quarterback in
my opinion. So with that being said, and the tools
that he has around him and such, and him being
able to scramble and still make plays with big players
and such too, why can't that translate? So I don't
really see where all this extra hype is and this
generational type of feel too. But overall, I think that
(53:19):
this is a good pick for Cleveland and this type
you're playing with house money at this point.
Speaker 7 (53:24):
But I don't know.
Speaker 13 (53:26):
If he's going to be a great or amazing or
something along those lines. But a lot of people in
the top ten picks at the QB don't pan out
in that type of way. But somebody that's able to
show you this scrambling ability, still able to make big plays,
and has this type of likability he's gonna sell tickets, like,
come on, you're just letting this pass by. I feel
like it's slept through a lot of team pools fingertips
(53:48):
when you talk about Travis Hunter. To answer that question,
I believe that he'll be a two way player, and
it just kind of depends on his durability. If it
lasts long, then he'll stay a two way player. But
if it continues to just hit on him and he's out,
they're going to continue to just have him as a
wide receiver. Feel like it's a bigger impact on the game,
especially nowadays, and plus he'll get all that money as well.
Speaker 2 (54:10):
All right, good stuff, Robert, appreciate your thoughts to don't
be a stranger on the Bernie Fatis are just getting

At the Bernie Frattle Show Fox Sports Radio. The midnight
Hour continues to go back out to the phones. Were
joined by Harold in Los Angeles. Harold thanks for hanging on.
What do you got for us tonight? Buddy? Hello, Hello, Harold,
you're on the air.
Speaker 14 (55:43):
He man, what's happening Listen?
Speaker 12 (55:46):
I want to just offer alternative perspective on a whole
shdul Santa situation. You know, I know this young man
who was raised Bob good Man in prime, but with
the media and a lot of the morning hosts and
other people made this whole draft situation what it was.
Maybe the kid got a little legal, little swag, a
(56:06):
little flow, little attitude. Maybe he didn't he cutally performed
at a high level. But coming into this draft, all
the media voltures took this kid and then there's a
big jig Cower babel for him and put him right
on top of it. So when you're a young man,
it doesn't matter who your daddy is or how much
you getting paid nil. They definitely put him in a
(56:28):
precarrious situation. And then for the NFL, after all, hypocritical
and that is the worst group of people on the planet,
given what they've hidden and the scammers that they do
all the time, to all of a sudden masquerade as
though they are the paragons of virtue. We're gonna teach
his kid. You know what the straighter now is, it
just doesn't it just doesn't ring right. And I just
(56:51):
think he's a young man maybe kind of you know,
they don't the spylight for him. They showing on him,
and then they were just waiting for him to make
a mistake and hopefully he'll go in the NFL and
take care of some business.
Speaker 2 (57:04):
Harold. I appreciate your perspective, thoughtful, and I would say
this that there's no question the media was culpable and
the media was complicit in allowing this group think echo
chamber narrative to to erode what you know, Chador's reputation
may or may not be, but it's what I call
them Michael Jackson syndrome. Harold. The media can prop you
(57:27):
up and take you down. Going into the year, some
people had him as the number one player picked overall.
So it's a bit of a double ed sword. But
I think the larger issue here is what's going to
rise to the surface. And he was raised by a
good man, I like Dean Sanders. I think he's everything
he's touched has been successful. Now we'll see what Shador
can do on his own. Now it's no longer show me,
(57:49):
tell me you follow me.
Speaker 7 (57:50):
That's what I call the laffin.
Speaker 12 (57:53):
But I would just say this, you know everybody then
what misses you? And you could be a sposed as
it is, you could be a cost co executive, whatever
it is. You know, everybody wants this kid to come
in and interviewing like he's trying to get into law school, right,
And the bottom line is if I'm a team and
(58:14):
I have a young man come in and I know
the kid is not that interested in playing for me
for whatever reason, right, I want to know as an
employee comes to having an interview, maybe there's some information, right,
Like most people aren't forced into job interviews. When you're
going through the draft for better for worse. You got
to talk to all these teams and maybe there's a
(58:36):
team that you're not really down with. Maybe they're not
down with you, so to me, kind of like going
out on the day. That's where the illogic of it
just comes into play. Instead of trying to throw this
poor kid under the bus. Okay, maybe he didn't comport
himself with the highest degree of whatever they consider professionalism
to be. For a nineteen twenty one year old man,
(58:57):
so be it. But you want to know the straight truth,
and again call him. Made a good point by Eli.
Oh you look at Kobe's the greatest basketball player all
the time. Like some people just don't want to go
to certain places. And if I'm the employer, I would
rather know that sooner than later.
Speaker 2 (59:15):
Fair enough, all right, thanks, Harold, don't be a stranger.
Look again, it's all gonna come out in the wash
when he gets on the field. And I will stick
to this though. I do not think that missing the
Shrine Bowl and the combine and saying just look at
my film, that's enough may have been the smartest play,
but the rest of it is all subjective. And listen,
he's got a lot of guys supporting him to shudor
(59:37):
does so. Now again, let's just get on the field
and play ball. Rick and Louisiana Joint. Just Rick, welcome
into the Bernie Fradershaw. How are you?
Speaker 15 (59:45):
I'm all right you thanks for taking a call.
Speaker 10 (59:47):
Yes, sir, again, I'm going.
Speaker 7 (59:49):
To do all three first.
Speaker 15 (59:50):
I do believe that is gonna do well. But it
is a team sport, so he can't do it all
by himself. I mean, he's got to have an offensive line,
he's got to have receivers, and he's got to have
a running back that's gonna offset some of that. So
I think that that they have a love, that they
have a Cleveland has a challenge too to make sure
(01:00:14):
that you know, he's protected to a certain you know,
a certain degree. So I will say, if he gets
the protection he need and have the receivers in the
running game, I think he's gonna do well.
Speaker 8 (01:00:26):
Uh.
Speaker 15 (01:00:28):
Secondly, as far as you asked the question about Dion,
I will say this much. I think that, you know,
with lebron the way he did his son, Bronian was
able to get him in. I do think there is
some fear out there. That's what I took it as
a fear because I think there was some that said,
you know, I really don't want to deal with that,
(01:00:48):
because I don't want to deal with Dion because it's
his son, and you can't you can't blame them for
him to speak up for his son. If things get
you know, go disarray and they ask the question, well,
why is he not playing? Well, You're not fully utilizing
which kind of leads me to the third thing, and
that is do you think they're gonna use Travis Hunter
(01:01:09):
if they're smart.
Speaker 7 (01:01:10):
They will.
Speaker 15 (01:01:11):
When Dion played, Dion was primarily defensive back, but he
also would line up on third down, well, wide receiver.
Speaker 2 (01:01:20):
You know what. And Rick in nineteen ninety six he
started sixteen games.
Speaker 15 (01:01:27):
On offense, right, and it was also punk return.
Speaker 2 (01:01:33):
That's right, killer punk returner.
Speaker 15 (01:01:35):
So if they're smart, they should be utilize them. But
to play like he did in college and have him going,
you know, defensive back and wide receiver the whole game,
now that that's too much in my opinion and pro.
Speaker 2 (01:01:48):
All right, thanks very appreciate your thoughts today, ladies and gentlemen.
Boys and girls, please turn your hymndals to page twenty,
as we now welcome in the comedic stylings of Jerome
and Charleston. Jerome, I was hoping you'd call him the night.
What do you got for us?
Speaker 7 (01:02:04):
You know, very few people could get away with with
giving me the business like you. But I accept that
from you because I like you, buddy, and you're good enough,
smart enough, and Doug under people like you.
Speaker 2 (01:02:19):
You sound like that Saturday Night Live skidmer with Al Franklin.
Go ahead, d take the floor man. You got the
floor like that.
Speaker 7 (01:02:31):
Like like you like George business arm he's all in
the master rage.
Speaker 2 (01:02:35):
I George bad.
Speaker 7 (01:02:38):
That's a bad look to root for someone's kid, to feel,
you know, I want for the best, but because yeah, hey, look,
you know you could do a lot worse than a
Rome Madelan Dion because I hear him talk about how
he grew up and everything, and I loved beyond man.
He told his mom when when he started making money
back in like in the eighties or something. He goes,
you're not walking no more. I'm taking care of you
(01:02:59):
for not on. I love that man because it makes
me tick up my own mom. And it's just like
I told you. There's this this lady in Colorado, like
you say, fond of us. She's like one hundred years old.
Speaker 2 (01:03:11):
He loves yeah you he saything bad about Dion as
a matter of fact, you know what, you know what, Jerome,
you always come through.
Speaker 15 (01:03:21):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:03:22):
I think the first time that she door takes the field,
the loudspeakers should be blurring. Give me the Night by
George Benson. What do you think?
Speaker 7 (01:03:32):
Hey you I'm there, baby, Hey give me a whole
George Benson concert. I know I don't know one song
will make me happy. That'd just be like the appetier.
Give me the whole give me the whole concert. Hey, hey,
by the way, tell them you know, as far as
Erican goes, you ever hear some of the stories about
Live Bird or Tom Brady. You want to hear about
(01:03:54):
Akin Well, library told h doctor j somebody better get
this old man off of me. And then I'm so
mad he wanted to kill him.
Speaker 2 (01:04:05):
Got to be careful, all right, real quickly, just got
a few seconds. Do you believe Shador will will redeem
himself as it were in the National Football League.
Speaker 7 (01:04:15):
It's like something I told myself when I was eighteen,
trying to get into the acceptance of the military. As
is to be. It's up to me. This is all
in your hands, man, the how do you want the father?
Speaker 15 (01:04:26):
You go?
Speaker 7 (01:04:26):
So we Hey, the story's not written yet, but we
would have to sit back and waiting.
Speaker 15 (01:04:32):
Street.
Speaker 2 (01:04:32):
All right, you're gonna be along for the ride with
all of us, Joe. We want to hear from you.
Speaker 16 (01:04:36):
Man.
Speaker 2 (01:04:37):
Okay, you're gonna be our Shador correspondent. Great stuff, Jero, Maan,
I's always appreciate you, man, appreciate the vibe a lot,
and props to spox Weed, who reminds me was, of
course Stuart Smally. I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and
god darn it you like me. That was a I'm
not really an Ol Franken fan, but that was a
(01:04:57):
funny damn skit u Hugh on the five free we
assuming you are still on the five Freeway. Good evening,
you are you?
Speaker 5 (01:05:06):
Wow?
Speaker 17 (01:05:06):
Bernie, I just I'm just crying over Jerome Man. I
think I've followed him before a couple of times, and man,
he just puts me in the right spot.
Speaker 2 (01:05:17):
Yeah, he's your opening act man. And as you'll notice,
I didn't call anybody a choker tonight. So we're off,
do we can start?
Speaker 7 (01:05:23):
You're a good listener.
Speaker 17 (01:05:25):
Okay, So no, I'm not on a five tonight, Bernie.
I'm on the little known Glendale Freeway. That's the two
in LA, the two for Sadur Sanders. Oh look at you,
Look at you?
Speaker 7 (01:05:43):
Yeah? Where do we begin?
Speaker 2 (01:05:45):
There's so many Well let's just let's just dive right
into it. Do you think she door is going to,
in the words of mel Kuiper, make a lot of
people regretting not taking them allah, the Brett Farres and
the Aaron Rodgers and the Tom Brady's, et cetera.
Speaker 17 (01:06:00):
That's irrelevance.
Speaker 6 (01:06:02):
You know, the topic that you had a couple of
weeks ago. Is he a culture builder?
Speaker 2 (01:06:08):
You can build all the coach you want if you
don't win games.
Speaker 17 (01:06:12):
Well look, okay, so I'm not even talking football.
Speaker 6 (01:06:15):
We're talking culture building.
Speaker 17 (01:06:17):
The one hundred and forty fourth pick the National Football
League have the entire sports talking world going after it.
Speaker 7 (01:06:29):
He's building.
Speaker 17 (01:06:30):
It's beyond football. The guy can build culture.
Speaker 11 (01:06:33):
So okay, can he go perform on the field?
Speaker 5 (01:06:36):
We're going to find out.
Speaker 7 (01:06:37):
And as I've said all along.
Speaker 17 (01:06:40):
Since the first time I called in and you had
an ongoing shador and be on topic, how are they
going to do a part for one another when it
comes to being on the field?
Speaker 6 (01:06:52):
Right?
Speaker 7 (01:06:53):
It's just such a fascinating story.
Speaker 17 (01:06:56):
So, okay, why did he get Why did he fall
down so far?
Speaker 2 (01:07:00):
I think I explained it pretty well in my opening monologue.
Speaker 7 (01:07:04):
Okay, so I have I have my.
Speaker 6 (01:07:06):
Own way of looking at it.
Speaker 17 (01:07:09):
You know, a Hard Knocks had a wasn't able to.
Speaker 3 (01:07:12):
Have any buddy agree to be on Hard Knocks this
football season I know, I think, I think, I think
all the teams are so like, no, no, no, no no,
we don't want cameras, we don't want extra exposure, we
don't want inside stuff going on.
Speaker 15 (01:07:30):
And that's what he that's what.
Speaker 2 (01:07:31):
Shador would bring.
Speaker 17 (01:07:33):
You know, he's he's, he's, he is a multi media
sensation already before even getting into the NFL.
Speaker 8 (01:07:43):
And I think teams are like, well, no, we just
don't need all those eyeballs.
Speaker 17 (01:07:48):
We're just trying to win games, right, So that just
makes it all more fascinating.
Speaker 18 (01:07:55):
Here's another take.
Speaker 17 (01:07:57):
The Cleveland Browns are so well set up. They've got
how many chips to trade at the quarterback position?
Speaker 2 (01:08:09):
Right, well, as long as they execute and get the
kind of capital they need.
Speaker 17 (01:08:14):
Well, okay, I mean that's all theiretical right now.
Speaker 2 (01:08:16):
Man, that's not.
Speaker 8 (01:08:19):
For sure, that's for sure.
Speaker 17 (01:08:20):
Nobody, nobody knows where it's going to goat. Nobody knew
Tom Brady's going to be the goat when he got picked.
Speaker 8 (01:08:24):
In the sixth round Montana and the mid rounds and
all that.
Speaker 17 (01:08:27):
Stuff, right, So that's all kind of like who the
heck knows?
Speaker 7 (01:08:32):
But man, are we all going to be watching? And
I think that's what it's all about.
Speaker 2 (01:08:36):
All right, Look, pal, I got it. Listen, great calls
always you look forward to you every Saturday night. I
got to get to the rest of these calls. Thanks
so much, appreciate you.
Speaker 5 (01:08:43):
Man.
Speaker 2 (01:08:44):
Hey, Mike, the leprecaun in Boston is back. You're gonna
be a regular Mike.
Speaker 14 (01:08:49):
I don't think i've called you before, have I?
Speaker 2 (01:08:51):
Yes, sir, you have, you have. You're welcome. You're welcome.
Let's hear what you got.
Speaker 5 (01:09:00):
I'm not a choker, no, no, nor.
Speaker 2 (01:09:03):
Whatever you accuse you of being one.
Speaker 14 (01:09:04):
Go ahead, Well Lorena would, but Tom Brady and Larry
Burning like somebody mentioned them on the previous call. So
but he decided, and Travis Hunter will be a fantastic player,
but they kind of have to let him do the
two ways thing.
Speaker 2 (01:09:18):
Because I think, so.
Speaker 12 (01:09:20):
That's what I might think.
Speaker 2 (01:09:22):
You think Shudor will have success in the National Football League.
Speaker 14 (01:09:25):
Well, as I said, pride comes before a fall, and
Rome wasn't built in a day. And the media was
definitely the blame because they had him hyped up with
that big party.
Speaker 2 (01:09:35):
With all the you're not wrong, and that's the reason
he slipped, because who in the hell besides his own
camp and a few people said he was going to
be a top five pick. Nobody I talked to in
NFL circles go ahead, Well a.
Speaker 14 (01:09:48):
Year ago they did, but then.
Speaker 2 (01:09:50):
Yeah, but not the NFL people.
Speaker 14 (01:09:53):
No, so they hiped him up and back. He said,
the media drives him down, and he dropped like a
light balloon.
Speaker 2 (01:09:59):
Basically, well, go ahead, He's not the first one. Listen,
I have a time crunch Mike real quickly. Anything else he's.
Speaker 14 (01:10:08):
Like, he reminds me of lebron and Bronnie as well
similar And to be honest, I think the past's got
a great pace in number four Will Campbell and that
comments the Clippers in Genver game was pretty brilliant.
Speaker 2 (01:10:23):
All right, Hey, I appreciate hearing from you. Mike. No,
you're not a choker. We do this every Saturday night.
The midnight hour is continuing Umberto and Manuel up next people.
You don't want to miss that, of course. And as
you know we're talking about Shador. Will he have success
in the National Football League and live up to mel
(01:10:45):
Kuiper's belief and Shad Travis Hunter played both ways in
the National Football League. By the way, Draft coverage on

all of you. You dial in, You take the time
to call in, Mberto, Manuel, Bryce, We're gonna get to
all of you. I appreciate your patience. I'm Bernie Fraddle.
We are coming to your line from the Las Vegas
Fox Sports Radio Compound here tonight. Keep it locked you
(01:11:27):
listen to the Midnight Hour the Bernie Frattles Show on
Fox Sports Radio. All right, back on the Bernie Fraddle Show,
Fox Sports Radio. The Midnight Hour continues. Umberto San Diego,
Waena Snowches, how you doing?
Speaker 19 (01:11:42):
Umberto Berto come starts, Bernie, Will you be any two
movie and listen listening to your show amazing as always
and have Regarding the point that you have with Travis Hunter,
he's going to be jat Wars, so he has to
pick his spots. He wants to be great. I think
(01:12:04):
you cannot play both ways all downs. So I remember
Dion Sanders was great cornerback in a good receiver when
he played offense. So it'll be interesting to see how
the Jaggers use him. So the kid can be at
one hundred percent for every single play according to the
(01:12:26):
downs or whatever. But yeah, that's something that the NFL
is different than college and he's going to find that
out in the first few games.
Speaker 2 (01:12:36):
I think, no, I'm an agreement. Look, he's a special talent,
and I think you know, on offense, you know, if
it's the fourth quarter, you need to get some points
on the board to move the change, you're in the
red zone. You might want him on the field on offense.
As far as defense, you probably I think you want
him their full time and then pick your spots for
some offensive packages. All right, is shedor going to do
(01:12:58):
what mal Kuiper says and make people regrets not taking them.
Speaker 19 (01:13:02):
Well, the drawback on that is he's in the Browns,
one of the most dysfunctional organizations there are. They make bad,
choicest people don't forget. They run Baker Mayfel to the ground.
Speaker 15 (01:13:19):
They did not give him respect. I don't know.
Speaker 19 (01:13:23):
I don't trust the organization. I think the kid has
the tools, he can be really good, but unfortunately he's
in that organization, the same organization that paid Deshaun Watson
a lot of money for nothing. So that's the only
drawbot the kid. I think it'd be great, but I
think he's in the wrong.
Speaker 2 (01:13:44):
Place all right, And Bertel appreciates you as always, I
would humbly remind of the folks Baker Mayfield joined that organization.
They were one in thirty one, two years on Hugh
Jackson and got them to the playoffs the second year.
Now I realized they ran Baker out of and all
that stuff. And you're not wrong about Cleveland's history. Bernie
Coosar had a run there, and Fernis Boner doesn't drop
(01:14:05):
the ball in the goal line and go to the
super Bowl. But it's inarguable the Cleveland franchises. I don't
know if it's cursed or what. So your points, we'll
take it in. Bertel, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls,
we welcome in a man who makes time for us,
and we are eternally grateful. Say hello to Manuel and Guardina,
Well what's up?
Speaker 9 (01:14:23):
Buddy Burn Baby Burn faction came in the chain reactions. Bernie,
great show as usual. I want to thank you personally
for giving us a boy and for always covering all
the bases in such a professional fashion. Now let's get
(01:14:45):
down to business. Chadure Sanders. Okay, so I'm not a
Chadur hater, But last I checked, the guy didn't win
his division. Guy didn't win a national championship. Everybody was
up in arms there. He had his jersey retired. So
why is it such a big deal to everybody that
(01:15:08):
the guy fell in the draft.
Speaker 7 (01:15:09):
It happens.
Speaker 9 (01:15:11):
You know, I take the same stance with him as
I take with my Lakers. Don't talk about it.
Speaker 16 (01:15:18):
Do it.
Speaker 9 (01:15:19):
Show me on the fields, on the court how anybody
could sit there and blabber blabber, talk crap, But do it.
Put your money where your mouth is.
Speaker 5 (01:15:33):
Okay.
Speaker 9 (01:15:34):
As far as Travis Hunter generational talent, and that's another thing,
is he going to have somebody like that to throw with.
We saw what happened to Johnny Manziel all of a
sudden when his receiver went to Tampa Bay and became
Hall of Famer. Johnny Manziel started calling himself, Billy and
started going to your town, you know what I mean.
(01:15:56):
So everything you know, we got.
Speaker 7 (01:15:59):
To see it.
Speaker 9 (01:16:00):
Man, I'm tired of all this. I think Travis Hunter
is going.
Speaker 16 (01:16:04):
To be great.
Speaker 9 (01:16:05):
But like Umberto was saying, man, this ain't college.
Speaker 7 (01:16:08):
Man.
Speaker 9 (01:16:09):
We've seen the best of the best, you know, be
able to go both ways a little bit here and there,
guys like Mike Grable, guys like Charles Woods, Deon Sanders,
but they pick and choose their spots. Like m Berto
was saying, is st anc two a my friend?
Speaker 2 (01:16:25):
Great stuff as always? Man, Well, I want to give
you some props too, because let's be honest here, let's
keep it real. When they got on the field against Nebraska,
they got humbled. Same with Kansas State. Kansas BYU did
not farewell against the bigger boys. And I'm gonna correct respectfully,
Ryan Clark. After the Nebraska game, a reporter said something about,
(01:16:47):
you know, Schudoor Sanders in his rough game, and he
looked at the reporter if if I've got this correct,
and said, how many times was Dylan Royola sacked? So
he did have some instances where perhaps they have followed him.
It's not the end of the world again. He's going
to get on the field in July and we're going
to see where we go from there. All right, Bryce
(01:17:09):
from Texas, it looks like you got the last word tonight.
One of your thoughts on these issues as.
Speaker 18 (01:17:13):
A Brown fan. I can go on way too long
about this, but I'll try to make it as short
as possible. I'm not going to talk about Travis Hutter. First,
I opened for manwell last week. I appreciate him returning
the favor and opening for me tonight, Thank you. Second,
I think that the Shador standers him getting drafted in
the fifth round is not as big of a deal
as everybody's pointing out to be. Will Howard also fell
(01:17:36):
to the fifth round here and won a national title.
But I think Shador felt because of his dad, and
it's not because of his loud mouth or the attitude.
I think it's because he's been shielded by his dad
being his only coach all his life. We don't know
what Shudor is going to do with a new coach.
Can he learn a new system, can he learn a
new scheme or whatever. I think that's the thing that
(01:17:58):
hurt him. Now, going to my lovely Browns. The Browns
are like the girl who keeps getting into bad relationship
after bad relationships, starting way way, way way back. You
can go through Johnny Manziel, you can go through Josh Gordon.
We just like to have bad relationship to get beat
up on. And so if we're going to get beat
up verbally by somebody, who better than Dione Sanders and
(01:18:21):
his son. But the good news is this is a
match made in heaven because the bar for the shered
door Sanders is very low, and he only has to
meet one number, and that's ten.
Speaker 6 (01:18:32):
He only has to have.
Speaker 18 (01:18:33):
Ten starts to be considered a success in Cleveland, because
that's above average every other starter in the last ten
years in good stuff.
Speaker 2 (01:18:42):
Hey, Bryce, you're on a good rule. I want to
ask you a question. I got about twenty seconds, and
I don't want to cut you short. If you have
more thoughts, I'll make you the last call over. If
you're going to hang on after the one am, you
want to hang on and finish the rest of your thoughts,
I'll hold on. Okay, We'll continue you. Because he's given
some good statistics and as to what the measure of
(01:19:04):
success might be in Cleveland, because he's bringing up a
good point. Maybe we need to grade this on the curve,
you know, not coming to go to a super Bowl
or anything like that. Maybe you grade this on the
curve compared to other ones. Keep it locked. This is
the Bernie Frattle Show. The men that I will continue
ever so quickly coming up.
Speaker 1 (01:19:22):
Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (01:19:25):
That's right, you heard the man. The Bernie Frattle Show
keeps rolling right along. My name is Bernie Frattle. We
are company line for the Fox Sports Radio compound here
in Las Vegas. Take and you have to three am Pacific,
six am Eastern. Callers have been fantastic. H And by
the way, I want to remind everybody that the draft
coverage on Fox Sports Radio is brought to you by
(01:19:47):
ship Station Calm the chaos with the shipping software that
delivers use Code Sports for a free trial at shipstation
dot com. That's shipstation dot Com Code. Just go back
to Bryce in Texas. Finishing up to Ben that hour
calls I brought you had kind of an interesting angle
and if I follow you correctly, you're sort of gradingess
(01:20:09):
on a curve because if you look at the Cleveland
quarterbacks who had like forty of them in the past
thirty years. Shod door success will be relative when you
compare it to what they've had. You know, I don't
want to put wars in your mouth, but continue on
with your point.
Speaker 18 (01:20:25):
No, that was absolutely where I was going with this.
I think we're so caught up on how well Baker
Mayfield did in Baker Mayfield's greatest achievement in Cleveland was
his longevity.
Speaker 12 (01:20:35):
That was it.
Speaker 18 (01:20:36):
Did you go back and look at his numbers? He
had one foloid year, but his last few years there
were pretty bleak throughout the league. I mean it was, Oh,
I just had him pulled up. But I think his
last year he had like twenty two touchdowns twenty one interceptions.
Speaker 2 (01:20:50):
He did win a left game, did he not? Bryce
He did win a playoff game.
Speaker 18 (01:20:55):
He did win a playoff game against the team that
had a backup quarterback.
Speaker 2 (01:20:58):
Yeah, well they went into Pittsburgh. I think the game
was played in Pittsburgh if I'm not mistaken.
Speaker 6 (01:21:04):
Yeah, And I think it was a good.
Speaker 2 (01:21:06):
So the bottom line is, do you think Schador will,
in the words of Mel Kuiper, create a situation where
other teams regret multiple teams regret not taking them.
Speaker 18 (01:21:18):
I don't think the other teams regret not taking him,
But I think the Browns made a good choice.
Speaker 2 (01:21:22):
He could sit behind Joe.
Speaker 18 (01:21:23):
Blacko for a year and learn from him and then
be set to have a long, longer sit in Cleveland
than what people are expecting that and so you expect.
Speaker 2 (01:21:32):
Him to beat out Dylan Gabriel then, because look what
it's going to be like. I don't know what the
hell they're gonna do with the Sean Watson, but Flacco's
going to make the team, and Kenny Pickett's going to
make the team, and they're not going to carry four quarterbacks.
You can't do that on a fifty three man roster.
One of them he'll be on a scout team or
he'll be on the h but they don't call it
(01:21:53):
the taxi squad anymore. But you know where I'm going,
all right? Anything else?
Speaker 10 (01:21:57):
Uh No?
Speaker 16 (01:21:58):
So that was all.
Speaker 18 (01:21:58):
I didn't want to thank too much time and not
use all my time on that.
Speaker 2 (01:22:02):
All right, sounds good. I think it's a good perspective.
All the callers just simply outstanding tonight, thoughtful, Okay, in
terms of well, you know, what are they going to
surround you do or with if he gets his chance.
If he earns his chance, those are all fair points.
Or on the other hand, sometimes you've got to be
the guy to lift the team above you. That was
(01:22:23):
always my beef with Matt Stafford Detroit. People think I'm
a Stafford hater. No I'm not. I just got tired
of the fact they said he never had anything to
work with in Detroit, where that's not true. Yes, for
the twelve years he was there, he didn't. But of
the twelve years he didn't, but four of me did,
and and he fumbled it. I mean, in the twenty
(01:22:44):
fourteen team in Detroit had the number three ranked defense.
You had in Dominican Sue, you had Calvin Johnson. They
won twelve games that year, they went to the playoffs.
He had Dallas beating the road, and Stafford turned the
Bowl over twice in the fourth quarter. I know you're
tired of hearing that story. My listeners are particularly tired
of hearing this story. But it's the truth, all right.
So look, part of it's predicated on who they surround
(01:23:06):
him with. I want to see if his game translates.
I'm just one hundred percent sure I think you put
him on the field with NFL at NFL speed, He's
got to ramp it up quite a bit more than
you realize. I'm not saying he can't. I look, and
I want to get to some of the tweets I
wasn't able to get to earlier Homeward nineteen sixty seven,
(01:23:26):
said Bernie. The question on Shodor Sanders is will the
Browns give him a fair shot? They have few or
four qbs and drafted Dylan Gabriel. The Browns weren't exactly
high fiving each other when they drafted them. Well, that's true.
That's a visual that's going to hang around a long time,
kind of like Laramie Tunsel's a mask back in the
twenty eighteen draft. I mean, these things stick. But if
(01:23:49):
Shodor has success, no one will care. But boy, if
you saw that draft room, my goodness, gracious, look like
some you know, they all just smelled a bad fart
and he can wouldn't get off there. You know, it
just it wasn't a good look. Okay, let's maybe we
don't read too much into it. Spoxwed says, I think
Schador sliding in the draft will be a blessing in disguise,
it very well could be. It's a real come down
(01:24:12):
for him. The chip on his shoulder he's going to
have will be the best fuel to be the best
he can be. He'll get a chance to play in Cleveland,
and he mel may indeed be a profit. Well, that
may very well be true. I said this many years
ago that when Dan Marino in the nineteen eighty three draft,
you know, which was the best quarterback draft of all time.
Marino was the sixth quarterback picked overall, behind guys like
(01:24:35):
you know, Kenny O'Brien and Todd Blackledge. But he went
to Miami, who had been in the Super Bowl the
year before. He was coached by Don Shula, a Hall
of Fame coach, and when he was coach of all
time and a quarterback Whisburg. And because he fell, the
expectations and pressure was not the great and Marino let
it up, he didn't win a Super Bowl. I get it,
all right, So I think it is a blessing in disguise.
(01:24:59):
This is not a bad spot. It's what you make
of it. It's what you make of it, you know.
Terry Bradshaw went to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Look, look, at
what they were before he got there. So and I
could name other examples. Here's a chance for Chador to
take a blank canvas and pain paining a masterpiece. Cowboy
Drew says, a lot of teams will will regret not
(01:25:20):
taking Sanders. May well be right, We've got to let
this play out. Have you have you ever a little
later in the show, by the way, I'm gonna do this.
I'm gonna give you the top quarterbacks who were drafted
specifically in the fifth round, and we're gonna go back
a long way and there's some good names in there,
(01:25:43):
more than you think. So you know, whoever said it's
not you know where you're drafted, it's you know that
you're drafted and what you do with it when you
get there. And those are facts. But did you ever
wonder what teams do, how they havevaluate NFL draft prospects.
It is incredibly thorough, incredibly they evaluate. I mean, it's
(01:26:07):
a multifaceted process. Okay, obviously it starts with scouting, but
then there's testing. You know, you go through the the
the measurables, you go through the you know, the traits,
and then you look at what their performance. You analyze film,
you look at their character assessments, They put them through
various testing, They analyze their college games, and then they
(01:26:30):
conduct interviews not just with the you know, the player
that they may or may not draft, but with coaches.
They talk to other coaches, They talk to players to
assess their strengths and weaknesses. The beauty of it is
and this is why the NFL Scouting Combine can be
very valuable. It provides a centralized platform for a lot
of evaluations, physical testing, medical evaluations. It allows teams to
(01:26:54):
sort of validate and confirm whatever their scouting judgments are.
It gets use them an opportunity to gather a lot
of crucial medical information. Also, you get a chance to
talk face to face background character, off field conduct. Chador
chose not to attend the combine, and see that's where
the BS meter hit me, because if you really thought
(01:27:17):
he was going second or through overall, I mean he
was wearing New York Giant cleats what two or three
months ago, and you know someone asked me you going
to the combin. He goes, now we know where we going. No,
he thought he was going to New York. I think
I think he wanted to go to New York. Fortunately,
New York wasn't interested in him. Maybe he might have
benefited from going to Combine. We'll never know. I realized
that if you really know where you're going, and you know,
(01:27:38):
Travis Hunter didn't need to go to the combine. Okay,
he couldn't improve his stock, neither would have cam Ord.
But someone like Shador he misread the room, I think.
But again again, this is all going to start up
again in July, and he's gonna get on the field.
The evaluation process starts to go to you know, skew downward.
(01:27:59):
From there, you start with scouting and film review. Okay,
scouts have already attended a lot of the college games
that Shudor played in. They observe them in their natural environment.
That's what they're there for, and they are allowed, you know,
they were able to assess their skills and decision making
abilities in a game setting and game speed. Then they
take that and they'll make they'll take film from that,
(01:28:20):
and they'll go back and watch the game tape to
reanalyze and play backup players performance in various scenarios. And
there's when they'll start to identify strengths and weaknesses. Now,
the great Bill Walsh used to say, don't tell me
what a quarterback can't do, tell me what he can do.
And then again you're back to interviews, coaches, players, people
(01:28:40):
who are involved in the player's program. They want insights
into their what you know doesn't show up on the newspaper.
And you know where we're going with that. Okay, again,
I want to repeat the combine. The combine serves as
a standardized platform. Everybody's on an equal footing. There you
got agility drills, strength tests, medical evaluations, physical tests, and
(01:29:02):
again it's used to sort of confirm or validate a
scout's judgment and impression and try to get a deeper
understanding of what you'd beginning, what is this player's real capabilities?
Again along with medical assessments. And finally, this is important.
I don't you know. I know Ryan Clark said, here's
a kid who's never been in trouble. Yeah, it's true,
(01:29:22):
best of my knowledge, he's never been in trouble. So
what is that your base? You've never been in trouble?
Whooped the damn do? You're not supposed to be in
trouble now? I know Baker Mayfield got in trouble, and
that seemed to really bother Ryan Clark that he still
got drafted high. Ryan Clark made sure to point that out. Now,
I'm not for, you know, condoning what Baker Mayfield did.
(01:29:44):
He got tackled by that cop. You've seen the video.
Baker Mayfield, you know, but he's turned out pretty good
in the NFL, hasn't he like what he's done in
Tampa Bay. So again, here's a chance to wipe the
slave clean. And I'm not saying Shoot Door did anything wrong.
I could rub some people the wrong way. I just
I mean, human nature is human nature, and people are
going to form impressions based on the impressions you give off.
(01:30:07):
If you're driving a Rules Royce on a college campus,
you're giving off a certain impression you just are, all right.
I don't give a damn what he drives. Again, I
covered the NFL. They just want to win. If this
kid can get on the field and help them win,
that's all that's gonna matter. The rest is Michigas take
it down river with you. It doesn't matter, all right.
(01:30:29):
But character and background assessments. People look at their own
they look deep into a player. They'll look into his
work ethic. I have no reason to believe that Door
Sanders does not have a good work ethic. His character,
I know nothing about him. Seems like a decent chap.
Seems like he's very full of himself. He inherited that
from his dad. His dad could back it up. His
(01:30:51):
dad played Major League Baseball. He was a good player.
His dad played in the NFL, played the Super Bowl,
play in the World Series. He ain't his dad. I
think if he ain't shoot Door Sanders, he's his dad.
Tell me why you think that? In a thousand wards
or less come on attitude, I don't think she Door
has a bad attitude. He has at attitude. Depending on
(01:31:12):
your personal subjective feelings, you might think he's cocky. You
might think he's as confident. Does he have leadership qualities
he appears to, But you don't exist. You know, you
don't express that leadership in an NFL locker room by
talking and going raw raw. That'll last about ten seconds.
You get on the field and you make place. After that,
(01:31:35):
all the background checks, interviews, coaches, teams, et cetera, family background,
academic performance convinium. Let me try that to get an
English community involvement. Those are all considered as factors in
a player's overall evaluation. So I'm gonna go back to
what I said at the top of the show, why
did he slide? Why did you door slide? Because the
(01:32:00):
only people who really believed he would go second or
third overall or ninth or certainly not past twenty first
were his agents and his PR team and his holm
Shpooka of the Sanders team Sanders, Shiloh Sanders, Dion Sanders Junior,
Dion Sanders, Shador Sanders, and his posse and his PR team,
(01:32:24):
And that's spilled into the media. They said it. They
created that expectation. Nobody I know that I talked to
that has NFL experience and NFL inside or not, he's
had him as a first round draft choice. There's no
crime against that. I guess later in the show, I'm
gonna give you a lot of the fifth round choices
who are a lot of games in the NFL. All right.
(01:32:46):
I also want to say that I don't think his
approach to the pre draft process was serving him well.
And it might be a primer and a cautionary tale
and what not to do if you're a future quarterback.
Don't you to declare yourself something you aren't and hoping
he nobody checks you out. The reality here is Sanders
is a good football player. He appears to be a
(01:33:07):
quality prospect, someone who could eventually turn into a functional
starter in the NFL. Again, as one of the earlier
callers said, he's got to be surrounded by talent and
a good offensive line, but they're still he has to
get on the field and prove against NFL players that
he has the arm talent. Those wins he threw in
(01:33:27):
college aren't going to close in the NFL. They're not
going to be as wide. He's got to prove he's
got pocket processing ability in general proclivities to play the position.
He can't just take off a run. He can't hold
the ball for three seconds. He can't get sacked like
he did at Colorado. And also, I think that the
perception that Shudor was a little overconfident for his own
(01:33:51):
good is accurate. It's it's spot on. It's just spot on,
as simple as that. So there you have it all good.
He gets a chance to prove himself. I think the
great story would be I really do. I think the
great story would be that Schador leads he somehow finds
(01:34:12):
his way in the field, becomes a starter, and leads
the Brons to the playoffs. That would be a story
ridding for him to fail as a fool's Errand as
a matter of fact, I want to take two seconds
to call out these knuckleheads from University of Mississippi. What
were you thinking finding the number? Somebody must have leaked
that number because the NFL has a documented base of
(01:34:34):
phone numbers for all these guys that don't know who
to call, and they call him, and I mean, this
is this young man's life, and you pull that crap.
I hope these kids are in trouble for what they did.
I mean, I'm serious. If you didn't hear about it,
they pulled a prank. They called Shador Sanders and pretended
they were the New York Orland Saintsans and you've been
drafted by the Saints. I don't have any other details
past that, but apparently it did happen. I think Chador
(01:34:58):
was kind of street smart enough to figure out and
feel right about this call. But regardless, that's beyond malicious,
completely unnecessary, and is beyond me why someone would have
to drum up something like that, I'm not going to
be doing my brand new Fool segment tonight because I
got a guest at two am. But your brand new fools, Okay,
(01:35:18):
that's what you are. By the way, Shortly after the show,
the podcast will be going up. If you missed any

(01:35:44):
What the hell, let's talk about some winners and losers
in draft as it were. I see that in a
colloquial sense because we always do this, right, Who were
the winners and losers? And yes, it's not credit to
Nick Right who said, fooy on, all you people who
(01:36:05):
beneath you to give draft grades two days after the draft. Well,
you certainly can give draft grades. I mean, the Lions
every year would need offensive linemen, and Matt Millan would
draft a wide receiver. He got an f built a
team from the periphery. Didn't work, did it?
Speaker 17 (01:36:20):
So?
Speaker 2 (01:36:20):
You can draft, you can give grades. I'm not gonna
give grades, but I'm gonna look at some of the
notables right players who were drafted. It seemed to be
a bullseye for the teams that drafted him and others
not so much. I'm Bernie fraddlework company line for the
Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio studios. Here in Las Vegas.

Take you up to three am Pacific, six am Eastern. Again, Hey,
Laurel and Harty, Welcome and thank you to all the
great callers during the midnight hour. This Shudor story is
(01:37:15):
simply going to have legs for the remainder of this
season and beyond. I want to remind everybody, by the way,
for the best pregame show every weekend, be sure to
tune into Fox Sports Radios Countdown presented by BETMGM every
Saturday and Sunday morning from nine am to noon Eastern
six to nine am Pacific. We will count you down
(01:37:36):
to all of the biggest games. Tune into Countdown presented
by BETMGM every Saturday and Sunday morning right here on
Fox Sports Radio and the iHeart Radio app. Well, I
believe it or not, there are other stories surrounding the draft,
so let's get to the ones that really caught my eye.
Let's again, I think Schudor's story is probably near the top,
(01:38:00):
if not at the top, but give it up to
Jaggs general manager. James Gladstone, thirty four years old, his
first ever stint as an NFL general manager, pulls off
the most notable, perhaps stunning in some people's eyes move
of the night, right out of the geat when he
(01:38:22):
made a deal with Cleveland that moved Jacksonville from the
fifth pick to the second overall pick. The Browns got
the fifth pick in the first round. They did great
with that pick, by the way, Mason Graham's a stud.
They got the thirty sixth overall pick in the second round,
the one hundred and twenty sixth overall pick in the
first round, pick that the Jags would have had in
(01:38:42):
twenty twenty sixth The Jags got that second overall pick,
the one hundred and fourth pick in the fourth round,
and then a sixth round pick, the two hundred pick.
And what did they do with that pick? Well, you
know what they did. They used it on Travis Hunter.
Now I realized they paid a hefty price to make
the deal happen. But Travis Hunters a generation player. He's
gonna put butts in seats and he's the type of
(01:39:04):
guy who can can really change a culture by what
he does. He's just electrifying some of the plays he made.
If you remember the very first game against North Dakota
State last August twenty ninth National TV game standalone game Colorado.
Early on, North Dakota State took a three to nothing lead.
(01:39:26):
Just a few minutes later, Travis Hunter caught a sixty
two yard touchdown pass, just electifying, electrifying, And you know
he helps Jacksonville plug two big needs. Jacksonville had a
need at receiver and they haven't need a corner. They
fell two needs with one player two birds one stone.
So the fact that this guy had the cajones to
(01:39:47):
make him move that quickly that early. And I know
he was criticized for the amount of capitally gave up,
but guess what you gotta give to get sometimes in
this league. And I think you have to give him
an a g not only for that pick, but for
the picks that followed also because after that they got
a cornerback Caleb Bransaw and Wyatt Mileham in the third round.
(01:40:09):
They also got Virginia running Tech Vishultoton and these guys
can all play. Okay, these are guys that are gonna
get on the field this year.
Speaker 6 (01:40:20):
This year.
Speaker 2 (01:40:22):
Jacksonville serve notice. And if Trevor Lawrence can somehow start
to reach the potential everybody thought he had, the Jacks
could be good. And they're in lines by the reason,
I think the shador was that rated highly. In my boat,
he's not gonna get on the field this year. He might,
he's not gonna help Cleveland win this year. If he does,
(01:40:43):
he does, I'll eat my words. But I don't see
that happening. And from all the years I covered the
draft with the Lions, you got that first round pick
much less top ten pick. You have to say to yourself,
this guy's starting day one, and we can plug him
into our lineup the next five years and look for
him to make at least Pro Bowls three of those
five years or all Pro. That's the way it is now.
(01:41:06):
Cam Ward obviously gets no mention, very little. After taking
Ward with the first overall pick, the Titans did their
best to try to surround him with a few weapons,
and in the fourth round they got a couple of
good receivers to Marry d k and the leak CanYa Manner,
and a tight end named Gunner Helm. Those three guys, okay,
(01:41:30):
they became Tennessee became who think they are? Matt Millen,
the first team in seventeen years to draft three pass catchers,
three receivers in the single round. Now they're all gonna
play though. They are all gonna help this Titans team. Okay,
And by the way, they also the Titans after the
(01:41:51):
draft went out and signed cam Ward's number one target
last year at Miyami xavier 'strepo. He's an undrafted free
agent and look Ward mentioned he wanted to play with Rastrepo,
and he Titans got the message, so they were helping him.
I think the Titans will be improved and we'll see
how cam Woord does. He's got a lot on his
shoulders to who much is given, much is expected. But
(01:42:15):
Cam Woard, you gotta love his story. Wasn't recruited out
of high school, went to Incarnate Word, made a name
for himself, ended up in Washington State and that police
did very well and ended up in Miami and he
made a lot of big time throws this past year,
big time. How about the Ohio State Buckeyes. Did anybody
notice the year national champion Ohio State Buckeyes had a
(01:42:38):
total of fourteen players taking in the draft. That's tied
for the second most by any school for the first
seven rounds of the draft. And Amika Abuca was the
first Buckeye to go off the board as well. He
should have one of the best receivers. He's going to
step right into the league, be a target for Baker Mayfield.
With nineteenth overall, the guys a stud and you talk
(01:42:59):
about character checks every box and then Will Howard even
finally you know, one hundred and sixty six picks, he
was a hundred and eight fifth pick overall. Will Howard
became the final Buckeye to go off the board. And
who was you drafted by the Steelers. The Steelers did
draft the quarterback, you know, they passed on Chaudor five times,
but they finally drafted a quarterback in Will Howards. Something
(01:43:26):
to keep an eye on, you know. Robert Salah clearly
was not the problem in New York for the Jets.
He'd been away from San Francisco for five years and
he was a phenomenal defensive coordinator and he's back with
the forty nine ers. And the forty nine Ers said, Robert,
we want you back. We're glad to have you back.
We're gonna draft defensive guys. And the Niners used their
(01:43:50):
first five picks in the draft on defensive players, just
a second time in history that they've done that. But
these are guys you're gonna hear about. Michael Williams, Alfred Collins,
Nick Martin Upton Stout out of Western Kentucky's a little guy,
one of the hardest hitters in the draft. CJ. West.
(01:44:10):
The Niners aren't dunnies. Okay, they cleaned some house, cleared
some cap space. Not one hundred percent sure what they're
gonna do with Brock Prody. But that's this NFC West
is a very winnable decision. I know everybody wants to
crown the Rams. Seattle'll have a say in that. Even
in Arizona got a little better. But don't go to
sleep on the Niners. I think Robert Salla is looking
(01:44:31):
at chops at the idea of playing Michael Williams and
Nick Bolsa together, a couple of great, great pass rushers. Remember,
the Niners lost a bunch of key defensive players this
past season. Javon Hargrave, Leonard Floyd, Dre Greenlaw, Javarius Ward. Look,
that's just the way it is, all right. We all
paid close attention, on least some of us did, to
(01:44:53):
Tom Brady, because Tom Brady was extremely active in terms
of his influence and input and decision making with the draft.
This was his first draft, and it's really sort of
interesting if you look what Brady did. Maybe he's looking
for another guy below the radar, like he was in
(01:45:17):
the sixth round of the draft. And this may or
may not be a coincidence. Probably not. The Raiders took
two quarterbacks in the sixth round. Now I'm not that
familiar with Montana State's County im a lot. I think
he's a Julian Edelman type, but I'm very familiar with
North Dakota State's cam Miller. Cam Miller was outstanding at
(01:45:38):
North Dakota State. He put up huge numbers. I will
tell you against Shador Sanders Colorado team on that Thursday
night to start the season, he gave them everything that
Colorado could handle. All right, I mean I love this pick,
cam Miller, And on that night against Colorado, he was terrific.
(01:46:02):
He threw for two undred and seventy seven yards in
a touchdown. He also ran for eighty one yards and
two touchdowns, averaged over five yards of cary against Colorado.
By the way, Chador ran for seventeen yards at night,
averaged about two yards of carry. Yeah, I know, Colorado
won thirty one twenty six and Sudor threw for about
four hundred. But cam Miller caught my eye quite a
bit that night, and they also won the national championship.
(01:46:25):
But this is a guy that can really play. I
think Tom Brady and it'll be curious to see because
cam Miller runs so well. I mean, he ran for
like twenty three hundred yards and forty touchdowns in his career. Look,
he's got Chip Kelly. I think he makes a team.
(01:46:46):
We'll see what he does. It'll be interesting to see
what he does. I'm not sure what this allot kid
will do out of Montana. But Brady's not an idiot.
I understand there's a talk that they'll switch him wide
receiver because he's that athletic. But if you look at
every one of the Raiders picks that Tom Brady and
(01:47:07):
his former Michigan teammate who's now the GM and for
the Raiders John Spytech made, they're all damn good picks.
If you follow your football, they're all damn good picks.
I think the Bears offense got better, man, I don't know.
They say they're the best team in the NFC North.
That's an exaggeration, but if you're being honest, you're gonna
(01:47:31):
have to take notice of this team, especially on offense.
They're starting to turn some heads. Okay, Colston Loveland on
a Michigan They got him in the first round, temph
overall pick. He was actually drafted, you know, ahead of
another damn good tight end in the in the draft,
and he's compared, you know, favorably to guys like Brock Bowers,
(01:47:53):
and that's why the Bears took him. But they also
selected Luther Burden a third and you got Ben Johnson
and Caleb Williams. So I thought progressed quite nicely in
his first year. Ben Johnson has the creative mind to
call plays with these two new weapons. And that's also
make note of the fact the Bears have already started
(01:48:13):
to overhaul their offensive line. They drafted Osi Trapillo out
of Boston College, who's now a two more offensive players
at the back end of the draft. And they even't
have got themselves a running back in the sixth round.
So from people off talk through, the Bears get very
high grades for all their picks, and I got to
(01:48:33):
believe that Caleb Williams is probably quite pleased with the
additions that the Bears have made. I'm going to watch
the Tyler Shuck situation. That Saints had not taken a
quarterback in the first two rounds of the draft for
like fifty years, but that drought ended, you know, when
(01:48:54):
New Orleans selected Shuck with the fortieth overall pick. Very interesting.
He's walking into what I think is a very friendly
quarterback situation. Derrick Carr is dealing with his shoulder injury.
I do not believe he'll start the season. So Shuck
is in a quarterback room with Spencer Ratler, Jay Canler,
(01:49:14):
Ben Denucci not to be confused with Don Fiducci, with
the godfather of the Black can So here's the deal.
The reason I said Shuck has a favorable situation. I
saw him in Louisville. He had his moments, but he's inconsistent,
but he had his moments. I know the Saints fans
(01:49:36):
can't be thrilled, nor should they be, because it's a
completely unknown quantity. And the reality of it is, if
Shuck can't beat out Ben de Nucci, j Canner and
Spencer Ratler, then he may not be long for the
Saints world. It's just all there is to doe. But
the Saints drafted him pretty damn high. And you know,
I think Kellen Moore knows a thing or two about
(01:49:56):
the quarterback position. All right. He's coached DAK and he's
coached Jalen Hurts, and he did great at Boise State
and had a cup of coffee in the NFL. And
I would just say this that Oftentimes what happens on
draft day looks great and turns out not to be
so much. And then there are other times where you
scratch your head and then you look up six months
(01:50:18):
later go, oh, that's why they did that. But it
has to play itself out, all right. So those are
the things that caught my eye on the positive side
of the ledger. Coming up, Let's take a look at
some of the things that caught my eye on the
negative side of the ledger. By the way, draft coverage

(01:50:59):
on the draft. I won't call them losers. I'll just
say these caught my eye for perhaps other reasons. I'm

(01:51:23):
About fifteen minutes, will be joined by Jeff Austin from
MECIUT of Boston and get some of his perspectives on
the day's events, among other things. And I started my
show off by saying, hey, with it. You know, some
good news and some bad news. And you know, no
one likes if anybody ever hits you with that. You
just don't like hearing it. It's like the old joke
about the doctor calls up one of his patients and says, well,
(01:51:46):
I got some bad news and some worse news. He
what's the bad news? Because you got twenty four hours
to live? What's the worst news? Oh? I meant to
call you yesterday. No one likes hearing good news and
bad news. So even for Shadoor, yes, it's good news
that the kid got drafted, even though he had to
wait and teams. The team that drafted him passed him
(01:52:06):
over six times, but he also lost out on about
thirteen million dollars. See if schdor Sanders had been taken
in the first round with say the twenty first pick,
as many predicted, even though Pittsburgh had their eyes on
the defensive player Harmon for a long time. He would
(01:52:26):
have gotten a rookie contract with about eighteen million dollars. Instead,
you take it in the fifth room around he'll get
He'll get a four year deal that's worth about five million.
Nothing to sneeze at. But I think he made like
six million of Colorado. And again, I don't care what
anybody says. If the team that took you passed you
over six times before they actually decided to take you,
(01:52:47):
I'm not saying you dwell on it. There's an old saying.
You can look back, but don't stare. But you know
it's the old Heydor. Sorry, we passed on you six times,
along everybody else. But we want you now though. Really
all right, h quinn Ewers you if you thought Shador
(01:53:10):
Sanders had a painful fall in the draft, well, ladies
and gentlemen, we give you Quinn yours, the former Texas
quarterback who should have probably could have maybe should have
stayed in college one more year. He was projected to
be a mid round pick, but that even didn't happen.
He sat on his couch and I don't know what
(01:53:30):
he did for three straight days, But finally the Dolphins
did select him in the seventh round with the two
hundred and thirty first pick. Now, look of all the
human beings, who's ever strapped down a helmet in their
life and shoulder pads and a jockstrap? And it ate easy.
I don't care what love you play that I only
played in high school. It's hard. So for whatever quinn
(01:53:53):
Ewers did, he's had a ninety nine point nine percent
of people who whoever put on a pair of pads.
But it's got a piss off a little bit. For
the rest of his life, clinn Ewers is going to
know that he was drafted behind two kickers and a punter.
Two kickers at a punter were drafted before quinn Ewers
went off the board. Remember it wasn't that long ago.
I was reporting on the show that he was offered
(01:54:14):
a million dollars to skip his senior year in high
school to go to Ohio State. Didn't work out, turned out.
I think there was a pervisa in the nil contract
that he had to start and he didn't. But he
ended up in Texas and acquitted himself pretty good. I
would say Quinn Ewers accomplished quite a bit more of
Texas and Shudorf Sanders did at Colorado, although Shoot Door
Center's numbers were good. Everything's relative again, everything, you know,
(01:54:37):
every you get. You know, we're like the six degrees
of Shodoor Sanders. It's just going to wah, it's going
to be uh, you know, it's it's what, it's going
to be, all right. But the good news is for
Quinn Eures always heading into a quarterback friendly system. You know,
he's behind Tua. He's going to have to beat out
Zach Wilson, which I do not think he will do
if he wants to win the backup job again. Hewers
(01:54:59):
was the thirteenth quarterback taken behind two kickers, a punter,
two FCS quarterbacks, and one of the quarterbacks, Tommy Malott
has stud out of Montana State probably won't even play quarterback.
Justin Tucker, oh boy, he had after being just the
most reliable legendary kicker in the NFL for years. The
(01:55:23):
Ravens kind of put Justin Tucker unnoticed by drafting a
kicker for the first time in Baltimore Ravens history. They
drafted the guy my good buddy Arnie Spaniard is probably
familiar with because he went to Arizona. His name is
Tyler Loop. Now, I am not going to even for
(01:55:44):
half a second pretend to tell you that I know
who the hell Tyler Loop is, all right, but I
do know this. Tucker is coming off the worst season
of his career, and he's also facing multiple allegations of
sexual conduct along the lines of what Deshaun Watson faced.
(01:56:07):
Look anyway, a slice it. Tucker's had a pretty damn
good thirteen years in Baltimore, pretty memorable thirteen years. I
remember a Monday night game in Detroit. My god, he
kicked like a sixty three yarder to beat the line.
He made so many clutch kicks, but nothing less. It
came to an end. I think it's coming to an end. Hello,
Tyler Loop. I have no idea who Tyler Loup is,
(01:56:27):
but you're following a legend. How about I have dual
Carter all right now? For whatever reason, I would have
thought he wore eleven at Penn State, Michael Parkson's wore
eleven at Penn State. Michael Parsons continued to wearing eleven
with the Cowboys, where he's done very well. And I
would have thought, I mean, dual Carter, it's just a stut.
(01:56:48):
I mean, I knew he was gonna go, you know,
very high. I knew he was going to the New
York Giants. It was the worst kept secret. But he
has to wear number fifty six. That number is hired,
you know, kind of like Shdor Sander's number. Remember this
is the six degrees of George Sanders tonight, and that
number belonged to the legendary Lawrence Taylor, who maybe defined
(01:57:11):
defense in the National Football League going back six decades.
There's not a quarterback whoever lined up over center when
they played the New York Giants. He say's Joe Montana.
Who The first thing they want to know is where
the hell is Lawrence Taylor on the field. Well, Lawrence
Taylor ain't having it. Abdua. Carter says, can I wear
number fifty six? And Lawrence Taylor says, not up in here.
(01:57:31):
He will not be letting Carter wear it. Says, get
another number, end of quote. I don't care if it's
double O zero to make it famous. Well, Carter needs
to maybe see if Warren Moon can go to bat
for him because Warren mood is allowing cam Ward to
wear number one, right, I would say the Bengals Charger Sanson.
(01:57:53):
Eagles had the Wars drafts just off the top of it. Okay,
the Bengals got a raw talent, Jamar Stewart, but they
didn't bother to try to fill many other defensive needs
like corners, safety, defensive tackle. That's why you're able to
give grades the next day. Why they would not address
those needs, I don't know. Okay, by the way, the Eagles,
(01:58:13):
I take that back, I take that back. Howie Roseman
worked his magic early in the draft. I don't know
how he gets Jehat Campbell, who's a stud. He gets
all these Georgia guys. The truth of the matter is
is that Jihat Campbell probably would have been a top
ten pick if it hadn't been for injuries. But bet
against Hollie Roseman at your own risk, because the guy
(01:58:34):
just does magic year after year after year. And so
you got to give the Eagles a lot of credit.
The Chargers, meh. The Saints. Kelvin Banks Junior is a
good pick, but then what came after that, Well, we've
already talked about that. So look, here's the beauty of this.
All these teams have the opportunity to prove us wrong.
(01:58:57):
Maybe they will, maybe they won't. The NFL Draft has
become truly an enjoyable event, and now we'll see what happens.
Won't be longer. We got OTA's in training camp, all right?
Coming up, Jeff Dawson for BZI, joined us. We'll chop

Speaker 16 (01:59:58):
Oh, good morning, Bernie. Coffee hot here back east. We
got about three inches of rain yesterday, sawn Noah's ark.
But draft is over and we're ready.
Speaker 2 (02:00:10):
I want to start there. We had a pretty lively
discussion about three hours ago having to do with Shudor Sanders.
I would like to ask you to respond to mil
Kuiper's assertion that Dion did it again. Shudor Sanders will
in fact make multiple teams regret not taking him. Where
(02:00:32):
are you weigh in on the hull Shudor Sanders saga?
Speaker 16 (02:00:36):
Well, I think the writing was on the wall with
about seven to ten days to go before the draft,
and I think a lot of people tuned it out,
meaning he did not do well in the interview process.
I guess a little arrogant was to say it lightly,
so some teams didn't even have them on the board.
(02:01:00):
Only a handful of teams, Bernie that actually were in
the Sanders sweep stakes, and I think two of them
just thought that they were bidden against themselves. So has
a lot of talent, But this year's quarterback class was
not that great compared to last year and what everyone's
(02:01:20):
expected this year next year. Excuse me, So will teams
regret it on term? Bernie?
Speaker 12 (02:01:28):
I don't think so.
Speaker 16 (02:01:29):
I think the fact his skill set plus Dion the
circus of you know, I think he's right where he
belongs with the crowded room. He has an opportunity now
to prove himself what he's worked. And I'm not calling
him the next Bernie Cosner or Brian Site, but we'll
(02:01:49):
be talking a lot about Sanders and his progress all year.
Speaker 2 (02:01:53):
Yeah, we certainly will. I'm just not sure if the
skill set that he has as someone who covered four
team draft for the Lions, I'm not sure if it
translates that he can prove me wrong. But I have
some question marks. Again, he can prove me wrong, but
we shall see. Also, we discuss Travis Hunter. I believe
(02:02:13):
Travis Henter should go both ways. I think he should
be a starter on defense and then find some packages
for him on offense. You know, maybe sixteen twenty snaps
a game. The thinking is, if you're in the fourth quarter, Jeff,
and you're in the red zone or you're driving to
try to score you might want Travis Hunter on the
field as a wide receiver. He might make a play
(02:02:35):
for you, as he did in Colorado. On the other hand,
if you are holding a lead and it's late in
the fourth quarter and the other team is in the
red zone, etc. You're gonna want Travis Hunterer on the
field locking down one of their receivers. Your thoughts on
whether or not you think Jacksonville will employ him on
both sides of the ball.
Speaker 16 (02:02:51):
Well, they stripped the offense. Ingram is gone, Kirk is gone.
They kind of want to move off of have as
etn So I think the Tarrott or for drafting him
was to say, hey, don't you worry. You see where
our offenses. Well, you're going to play plenty of offense,
(02:03:12):
and yes, we're going to give you opportunities on defense.
I like your thought process there, or Burnie very much.
I think offense, the hard part is how many snaps
a game? I mean, how fresh can you be If
he's playing both sides full time, I'd say late third,
early fourth quarter, he's going to be one tired man.
(02:03:35):
But I like the thought process here. We're going to
use your sixty five percent on offense. Thirty five on defense,
or you know, maybe move him in on third downs
or red zones. So whatever keeps him happy, whatever keeps
the Jaguars movement. But I'm excited to see him, especially
(02:03:56):
offensively on the Jaguars this year.
Speaker 2 (02:04:00):
One of the larger issues is the logistical issue. The
defensive coordinators each week will install a new game plan
with different schemes and personnel groupings, and there's a lot
of film study and a lot of practice time implementing
those schemes, and you just can't show up when you
feel like it. I mean, this is a it's like
two full time jobs. So we'll see. We'll see how
(02:04:23):
they navigate through that. Jeff, I want to talk about
the Patriots because look, ever since the former coach who
won all those Super Bowls with Tom Brady left the Patriots,
I still think are in the public eye now. I
am of the belief the Patriots had a pretty damn
good draft. Will Campbell at LSU. You talked about him
(02:04:47):
weeks ago, him or Membu was going to be the guy,
and there's no question he steps in and has a
long career. I believe. I love the Treevion Henderson pick
I love the Kyle Williams pick the wide receiver to
Washington State, and then from there they grab some defensive guys.
It feels like Rabel has his fingerprints all over this draft.
(02:05:09):
How do you grade the Patriots draft and can they
make noise in a division? I wouldn't call it wide open,
but I think someone's right there to challenge Buffalo and
I don't know if it's going to be Miami and
I don't think it's going to be the Jets.
Speaker 16 (02:05:23):
Well, we are very excited. I'm looking at the draft.
I was locked in all three days, excited for Vrabel,
excited for Wolf, and I really wanted to see the
comparison between last year.
Speaker 9 (02:05:40):
Wolf was there last year obviously with girod Mayo.
Speaker 16 (02:05:44):
Now Vrabel with his team, and the difference between last
year and this year was just eye opening. They had
a plan, they stuck to it. They're sitting at four.
No one wanted to move up. They fell in love
with Will Campbell. They did extensive research. They went back
(02:06:07):
down to LSU late last week. Vrabel and Will have
a bond. That was their guy. But after that, it
gets really interested in Bernie is at the second round,
the thirty eighth pick. A video got leaked out late
last week with the Chargers and them back and forth
(02:06:29):
on the phone and eventually making that trade which the
Chargers got Lad McConkey and the Patriots fell in love
with Polk and Baker. They were in that same spot
this year, Bernie, and if you saw the draft, they
waited to the last handful of seconds to make their pick.
They were fielding a lot of opportunities for potential trades.
(02:06:53):
I think it was someone wanted to move up for Henderson,
so they were looking at the BC edge rusher. They
had a couple of wide receivers on the board, Noel
and Williams. Rabel went to Ohio State from under Stevens
I think led the NFL and fumbles both. They took
their guy with Henderson, they come back with Kyle Williams
(02:07:17):
and then they go back on some defense with Wilson
and they get a center. Big, big draft grated, very
very high. Now again their kids. The Patriots have a
lot of holes to Phil Bernie and they need to
revamp the whole team. So we're excited. I think I
(02:07:40):
don't want to be a Homer, but I drew him
in a minus Bernie, fair.
Speaker 2 (02:07:45):
Enough, And look, I think it's actually good for football
if somehow the Patriots get back into the mix, and
it'd be a quantum leap, right, But it's happened before.
I mean, Cam Newton took a one in fifteen team
year before got to the Soper Bowl next year. So
am I predictat you? No, go ahead?
Speaker 16 (02:08:05):
It's it's an AFC East that is dominated by obviously
the Bills, and then there's a lot of question marks
and Jets new coach Justin Fields Miami, we know t
and they income the Patriots. Are the Patriots going to
the playoffs? Probably not. But we said the same thing
last year about Washington, who go from the bottom to
(02:08:27):
the top. So you know, a lot of variables, a
lot of moving parts here, but this team will look
a lot different than they did last year. Their offensive
line got better a year older. For May really excited
to see what Brabel does. You know, seven to eight,
maybe nine wins, Bernie, But I think very competitive is
(02:08:51):
what we're looking at looking for. And as you said,
six times Super Bowl champs, it'd be nice to be
relevant again, Bernie.
Speaker 2 (02:09:00):
Let's wrap it up with the NBA playoffs, and I
want to focus on the Eastern Conference. Earlier with Mark Mnina,
we focused on the Western Conference. And the question is
can Boston repeat? I mean, Sunday night, you got the magic.
They're looking to go up three games to one, but
Boston's banged up. You got three starters, Datum, Brown and
Holiday are all banged up, suffering some sort of ailment.
(02:09:23):
And if the Celtics want to repeat, you want to
get this series over with because Cleveland looks to be
the real deal. Your thoughts on the Celtics quest to repeat,
that they have it in them, and how much of
a threat you believe the Cavaliers are.
Speaker 16 (02:09:41):
I think that Cavaliers are definitely a threat. They hold
the home court advantage. They have beaten the Celtics this
year at Boston Garden leading up to the playoffs. Jalen
Brown to me was not one hundred and I tried
to tell all the Green nation here, we're got to
(02:10:02):
pump the brakes here. We are not healthy. Last year
was the perfect storm, Bernie. Every team that we faced,
their stars were out.
Speaker 7 (02:10:11):
We were healthy.
Speaker 16 (02:10:12):
We cruised right through and of course then fac the
number five seed with the Dallas Mavericks. This year a
little different Magic has played well. Uh you know they've
They've shown flashes. They're just too young right there. Obviously
looking to win today, get up three to one. Obviously
you don't want to even the series and come back
(02:10:34):
to Boston the best of three after that, I'd expect
the Celtics to find a way to win today. We're
assuming it's the next Bernie. But Pistons have played very,
very well in that series as well. But the Calves
have looked the part. Expect them to sweep the Heat
and then Paces. But we are assuming the Paces. But
(02:10:57):
you get Giannis and well, but we've been waiting for
a while. It's setting up for a Cabs Boston that series.
Bernie will go six or seven. Neither team is going
to run either one of them out of the building.
Speaker 2 (02:11:13):
Should be interesting to see. I know the Lakers are
looking tired already, but I know the NBA would love
dearly to see a Celtics Lakers finals, although it seems
to like a pipe dream at this point. Jeff, great stuff,
as always is we get toward the NBA Finals, Boston's
around certainly want to get you back on to get
your thoughts on one other things. So appreciate you as always, Jeff.
Speaker 16 (02:11:32):
Bernie, I'll be here for you whatever you need.
Speaker 2 (02:11:35):
Have a great, great Sunday, Thanks Palace. Jeff Dawson, e
CI Sports Consultant. It didn't really have a chance to
get into some of the draft betting scenarios, but it's
become less and less of an item over over the years.
We'll get to look ahead some NFL futures in the
next few months as we get closer to the season
with Jeff. By the way, you can stream this show

followed what happened after Nico Yama Liada left Tennessee and
who they replaced him with. If you submitted this as
a Hollywood script, they'd laugh you off. And by the way,
irband Meyer, you owe Tennessee an apology. I'll tell you
(02:12:44):
who Tennessee got back and is replacing nico Ah the
Circle of Life. You'll see what I mean when I
share the story. I'm Bernie frederwer Kenedy Lyn from the

Speaker 2 (02:13:14):
All right back at the Bernie Frattle Show, Fox Sports Radio,
coming to you live from the Las Vegas compound here
of Fox Sports Radio. And as I mentioned earlier in
the show, I was not going to get through tonight
without referencing this crazy transfer portal. Not just in men's basketball,
of which I believe closed last week two fety nine
(02:13:38):
players entered the portal. The football portal, though, is the
one that really is making the headlines, and I want
to revisit his story. We started a couple of weeks ago,
three weeks ago, and for what it's worth, don't we
don't have the final numbers on the Football Transfer Portal
as of yet, but to get some perspective, the first
year there were like fifteen hundred and sixty one players transferred.
(02:14:02):
Then that's morphed into the years at twenty three and
twenty four, a total of eleven thousand players eleven thousand
over to your span evident to portal. But if there
was any transfer story that got the raised the eyebrows
of coaches or administrators or agents or anybody who's a
(02:14:23):
fan or observer of college athletics, If there's any transfer
story that got people really buzzing the past few weeks,
it was the crazy situation surrounding Tennessee and their former
quarterback Nico aama Liava. Now, the rumors were that he
was holding out for a better deal. All right, he
(02:14:46):
was getting two point four million from Tennessee. It was
reported allegedly he wanted four million. The kid from Duke
got four million, and Carson Beck got ten million. And
then of course they denied it, said, no, this isn't
a holdout. I was just worried about the the offense,
and okay, I don't care what your story is. Nico
(02:15:06):
was a highly recruited quarterback coming out of Southern California.
He's Peers and he's returned home to Southern California, and
we'll play for Ucla because remember him and his family
said they were worried about the offense, So sure, why
not leave Tennessee a prolific offensive team and go to Ucla.
I believe they ranked one hundred and eighteenth in offense
last year. Maybe he can get them to move up
(02:15:30):
the ranks. I don't know how much he's making. I've
heard allegedly it's a less than a million dollars. So
for maybe it really wasn't about the money, because he
left two point four million to get a million. It
would have been nice to in the perfect world, he
stays in Tennessee, has a good year, and he enters
(02:15:50):
the draft and he's only twenty years old and the
world is oyster. He's got NFL potential. Okay, what was
bothersim about the ordeal was just a couple of days
before the Tennessee Vall spring game. The tension had risen
to such a such a level, and it had been
simmering that he just up and left and left the
(02:16:14):
team in the lurch and I think the general consensus
was that iam Aliava just outplayed his leverage. He overplayed
his hand instead of returning to Knoxville on what was
a pretty lucrative contract, I think two point four million.
So now he'll get closer to home and it looks
like he'll he'll play for UCLA. And by the way,
(02:16:36):
that's that whole decision kind of set a domino effect
happening because on top of Yamiliava and his younger brother,
Madden Yamiljava via the Arkansas Razorbacks committing to UCLA, a
bunch of other quarterbacks changed scenery. And I'm about to
get to my point. He see, here's what's funny. Urban
(02:16:59):
Meyer waited in a couple of weeks ago and said, oh,
Tennessee screwed. They had themselves a good quarterback and now
they got nothing. They got a kid on the bench
through six passes last year. As Lee Corso would say,
not so fast. My friend enter Joey Aguilar. Joey Aguilar
was matriculating at Appalachian State. He was a starter and
(02:17:23):
and by the way, uh, the u c l A
staff really liked him in terms of their Scotty report
and for good reason. Now here's the beauty of it
and why I referred to this as the circle of life.
When Nico IAmA Liava entered the NCAA Transfer portal following
(02:17:43):
this dispute over the nideal, a couple of weeks ago,
folks were wondering who Tennessee would get to take a
spot under center because he left some fairly big shoes
to fill. Let's be honest, Well, the irony among all ironies.
It turns out it happens to be the guy IAmA
(02:18:03):
Liava forced out of UCLA when he announced his commitment
to the Bruins a couple sundays ago because Joey Aguilar,
who transferred from Appalachian State to UCLA once he found
out that Nico was coming. Nico said, of course, my
journey at ut has come to an end. Cool. This
(02:18:24):
decision was incredibly difficult, truthfully, not something I expected to
make this soon, but I trust God's timing. What does
God's timing have to do with you blown out of
there because you said you want a two point four
million and they didn't give it to you. All right?
Fair enough, Even though this chapter is ending, a new
chapters began and I'm committed to UCLA. I frankly would
like to use to see UCLA rise back through the
(02:18:46):
football ranks. It's been a long time. Okay again, enter
the aforementioned Joey Aguilar. He was a former three star
recruit in the class of twenty twenty three who commit
hit it to UCLA back in December. Was all set
to battle for the starting quarterback job with the Bruins.
Probably would have won the job after he transferred from
(02:19:09):
Apple Aachian State, but following Niko's arrival, and by the way,
Joey Aguilar is no slot cheater six foot three senior,
he hit the portal again to find another school where
he had to have a legit chance to start. Well,
guess what that program just happens to be wait for it,
Nico's former school, Tennessee. It's my understanding. Joey Aguilar has
(02:19:33):
signed with the Valves. According to reports on ESPN and
heading into the transfer portal, Joey Aguilar was the fourth
best quarterback available in the transfer portable. According to on
three quote, the QB trade is complete. Joey Aguilar plans
to sign with Tennessee after transferring to UCLA from Appalachian
(02:19:55):
State in the winter portal. As sources told ESPN, essentially,
Joey Aguilar traded places with nico Iyamalaliava, who transferred from
Tennessee to UCLA and the current portal. Nothing to see here,
move along. This happened fast, and I if I'm being honest,
(02:20:17):
I think Tennessee got themselves a hell of a quarterback.
If you look at Aguilar's numbers in two seasons with
Appalachian State, he threw for about sixty eight hundred yards,
fifty six touchdowns, rushed for four fifty two and five scores.
And his addition gives Josh Heipel, the former quarterback himself
options along with the people erb Admyer was talking about.
(02:20:40):
I think the kid's name is George McIntyre. He threw
Oh no, Jake Merklinger, I think is a kid to
through six passes and he got an incoming freshman. I
think Joey Aguilar will start. And by the way, if
you talk to people in the know in college football
as a pure pastor, now, Aguilar is not the runner.
Is iamailiavi is. He's more of a pocket. But they
(02:21:01):
say there are people in camp who say they believe
Akilar is actually an upgrade as a pure passer over
Nico Iamaiava, who's more of a dual threat guy. All right,
he threw for yama Aliava, threw for twenty six hundred
nineteen touchdowns, rash for three fifty eight. Joey Aguilar threw
(02:21:21):
for a lot more than that. This is again his story.
We'll be watching and it's college football. Well, look, the
future always says a way of arriving at a schedule.
College football will be here before you know it. Well,
as I say every week, we don't just cover the
football that is spelled foot b A l L. We
(02:21:43):
also cover the football spelled fut bul nationally and internationally.
It's time Chris Purfetts World soccer.
Speaker 20 (02:21:54):
The greatest goals, the thrilling finishes, the international drum.
Speaker 7 (02:22:08):
I am.
Speaker 1 (02:22:10):
It's all here in this report from the World of soccer.
Speaker 21 (02:22:14):
Major storylines going across Europe. Bernie in the world of soccer.
As we wait for the semi finals of the UEFA
Champions League, which start this week on Tuesday Arsenal and
Paris Saint Jermaine, happening at three pm Eastern on CBS,
we have to acknowledge what a treat this weekend has been,
starting with l Classico in the Copa del Rey as
(02:22:35):
Barcelona had to take Real Madrid through extra time, a
tremendously shippy match, especially with how this started, where Real
Madrid TV putting out a video this season attacking one
of the officials that would be refereeing the Copa del
Rey match, thirty nine year old Ricardo Burgos Bengos, who
(02:23:02):
apparently the Madrid took umbrage with because of talking about
the club's record when he referees the matches. Then before
the end of the game, there were about three red
cards handed out to Real Madrid, who went from a
two to one lead in this game to tie it
around the end of regulation as Ferron Torres scored the
equalizer for Barcelona and then Jules Colnde managed to score
(02:23:26):
the winner at the one hundred and sixteenth minute. Barcelona
then held on and took home the Copa del Rey.
Classico remains very very fun to watch and Barcelona and
Real Madrid still trading blows as we come to the
end of that season. Four points separating the two in
La Liga play Napoli and Inter Milan TA Stey remained
(02:23:49):
drawn at seventy one points apiece in the Siria table,
as Italy looks to be finishing the season almost down
to the wire and England could be officially officially done
in the Premier League if Liverpool pit picks up just
a single point against Tottenham here on Sunday morning.
Speaker 1 (02:24:11):
Of course, we've known this for a while.
Speaker 21 (02:24:12):
As we've talked about in the world of soccer, and
I've said for probably a close to a month now
that Liverpool's title is virtually theirs and that Arsenal, the
club that is still laggedly chasing them, has no real
shot to catch up with them. And indeed, on Wednesday
a too to two draw against Crystal Palace, who.
Speaker 1 (02:24:31):
By the way, are going to the FA Cup Final.
Speaker 21 (02:24:34):
Crystal Palace has left Arsenal incapable of catching up. And
to be honest, fine, they have the Champions League to
play for. The title is Liverpool's. It's just a matter
of formality at this point. Relegation is basically sewn up.
So what is there really to talk about in England? Well,
what about rexhum Bernie? The Hollywood story continues for the
(02:24:58):
little else club taken into an interest of Ryan Reynold
and Rob McIlhaney taking them from the fifth division National
League to English League One and they will be headed
up to the Championship. And the Championship is one step
below the Premier League, which means that this is as
(02:25:22):
about as big as you can get. Three promotions three
years that is unheard of. It's almost unprecedented, it is.
It's being described across there as a miracle. A three
NIERL win over Charlton actually allowed Wrexham to move to
second place here with just one match day to go
(02:25:44):
and clinching second place. If they had fallen at all,
they would have had to play in a promotion playoff.
No club in English football has ever been promoted in
three consecutive seasons until now. This is not been done
before and they will move up to the EFL Championship
here and this is where the real hard work is
(02:26:07):
going to begin. Wrexham is celebrating like crazy and they should.
This is unbelievable and there's going to be a day
that will come where we'll have to start to talk
about how much more difficult it is in the Championship
with some tremendously great clubs who come up and down
from the Premier League all the time in clubs in
(02:26:28):
there by the way that also feature plenty of celebrities
who have decided to throw their weight in following the
Wrexham model and back some of these clubs out there,
like for example, Burnley with JJ Watt as one of
their celebrity heads, who is getting promoted to the Premiership
along with a very big favorite in Leeds United, who
(02:26:48):
happens to have a lot of American players on it.
And I know a lot of my friends tend to
keep up with Leeds United. Or what about a team
that's joining Wrexham up to the Championship in Burmingham City
one of their minority.
Speaker 1 (02:27:01):
Owners, Tom Brady.
Speaker 21 (02:27:04):
The difficult world work will begin. And I know I've
already kind of like come in here and said, hey,
the rocky roads ahead for Wrexham. But again, no other
club has done what they have done. This will be
a tremendous story for the FX series, a tremendous story
for a club in Wales with a passionate, passionate fan
base who's seen it come practically from the dead to
(02:27:24):
the top flight of the English Football League and perchance
on the doorstep of the Premier League. A return to
glory if there has ever been one for Wrexham, and
it should be celebrated far and wide.
Speaker 1 (02:27:38):
And yes, I do say a return to glory.
Speaker 21 (02:27:40):
Wrexham has had very ancient success in its past measured
against the success of its time. This is a lesson
in all sports, and it is especially true against soccer.
Nothing ever truly dies. You're just waiting for its rebirth
at any point, and we wait for better things to
rise from the ashes, and we shall do that here
on the world of soccer.
Speaker 1 (02:28:01):
Bernie, we bid you.
Speaker 21 (02:28:02):
Ado Champions League semi finals first legs are starting this week.
That's a wonderful, wonderful time.
Speaker 2 (02:28:10):
Well, let me give this some perspective, because Rexham could
actually make the Premier League, the English Premier League, and
even the most casual observer knows what an English Premier
League is. And for Wrexham to do that, they need
to win their championship or finish in the top two
during the automatic promotion. I'll give us some perspective. If
Rexham made it to the English Premier League next year,
(02:28:33):
that would be like the Cleveland Browns with Shudur Center
as a quarterback making him to the Super Bowl next year.
That's how unprecedented this is for Ryan Reynolds and Wrexham
is doing. They've got a significant challenge ahead of them,
but look what they've done to this point. Just saying,
coming up, we wrap up the show and let's take
a little walk down memory lane. All right, it is
(02:28:55):
not the worst thing that Shudor Sanders was drafted in
the fifth roe. As a matter of fact, if we
live throughout history, there have been a lot of quarterbacks
names you will definitely recognize who drafted in the fifth
round who went on to make a name for themselves. Well,
I dated for the third time called shador Dion. Will
Shudor be one of those? Will his name be out
(02:29:17):
of the list? Well, I'll give you the list. Coming up,
I'm Bernie Fraddle. We're coming to line from the Las
Vegas Fox Sports Radio Studios. Keep it locked right here.
You're listening to the Bernie Fradtle Show on Fox Sports Radio.
All right, wrapping it up on the Bernie Frattle Show.
Come to you live from the Las Vegas Fox Sports
Radio compound. Before I go any further, I want to
(02:29:37):
thank my broadcast team. I think my producers, Mark and Brianna.
Excellent job to I greatly appreciate all the efforts in
turning all the dials and keeping the show on the air,
keeping us glued together. Thanks so much so. Shador Sanders
was drafted in the fifth round, one hundred and forty
fourth overall.
Speaker 5 (02:29:57):
And you know, I I.
Speaker 2 (02:30:03):
I want to say that is that is not the
worst thing. That is not the worst thing. And if
you followed our draft coverage, of course, the draft coverage
on Fox Sports Radio was brought to you by Dollar
Shave Club, your place to get everything you need to
stay smooth and smell great. Visit dollarshaveclub dot com slash
draft and use promo code Draft for twenty percent off
your order twenty dollars in more plus free shipping. That's
(02:30:24):
Dollar Shave Club dot slash dot com slash Draft. So
here's the bottom line. There have been many quarterbacks over
the years that have been drafted in the fifth round,
and more than you think, more than you may realize,
(02:30:45):
many of them actually went on to have quite you know,
productive careers in the National Football League. And you can
start by going back fifty years. I'm sure you remember
Steve Grogan of the New England Patriots. He won seventy
five games as a starter through for over twenty seven yards,
and that's nothing to sneeze at. Mark Brunell coming out
(02:31:06):
of Washington in the early nineties now very solid reporter
who had one hundred and fifty starts in the NFL,
won seventy eight games through for over thirty two thousand yards.
Was one of the one of the better all time
Green Bay Packer quarterbacks, of course, behind you know farv
and behind Aran Rodgers, et cetera. But he was seventy
(02:31:30):
eight and seventy three as a starter. Threugh fo one
hundred and eighty four touchdowns. He threw for seventy six
more touchdowns and interceptions then I'm sure you've seen Dan Arlofski.
I covered the Dan Arlofski Lions. Arlawski signed with the
Lions in seven. He unfortunately was part of that infamous
Ole in sixteen team in two thousand and eight, the
(02:31:52):
last year I covered the Lions in an official capacity.
I know he's most remembered for running out of the
end zone in the game against the Minnesota by Kingson.
They lost twelve to ten that day, but dan Orlowski.
He had twelve starts in the NFL. He got his
chance and he was drafted in the fifth round. Now,
I remember Troy Smith coming out of Ohio State. He
(02:32:13):
was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens. And this is almost
twenty years ago now, and he's like twenty oh seven,
and the scouting of quarterbacks was a little different than
Troy Smith's game actually would have translated a little bit
more in this current climate. But look, he had eight starts.
He was four and four. Never made a big name
for himself with Baltimore. Another guy drafted a year later
(02:32:35):
who's been on about sixteen teams in the NFL, Josh
Johnson to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He hasn't had a
lot of starts, but he's had a job in the
NFL for over a decade. Another Green Bay Packer starter,
well sort of. He had nine starts, but was given
every opportunity. Brett Hunley out of UCLA obviously well before
(02:32:57):
you know Jordan got there. Look at the bottom line
is he had his chance. He had nine starts through
for two thousand yards. Never was able to acquit himself
well as a starter, consistent starter, Brett Hunley in Green Bay,
but nonetheless had his chance. Nathan Peterman maybe more near
(02:33:20):
the bottom of the barrel on this list. Twenty seventeen.
You know, Buffalo Bills. He had five starts in the
National Football League. He's bounced around quite a bit. He's
probably on a lot of taxi squadron not even though
they don't call it that anymore. Mike White signed with
the Dallas Cowboys in twenty eighteen and again only had
seven starts in the NFL, but had his chance. Sam
(02:33:42):
Howe coincidentally, this is crazy. You can't make this stuff up. Quincidentally,
Sam Howe drafted in twenty twenty two by the Washington Commanders.
He was just dealt to the Minnesota Vikings. I believe
Saturday he's had eighteen starts in his career in the NFL.
(02:34:03):
He's only five and thirteen I get that. Twenty two touchdowns,
twenty three picks. He was drafted one hundred and forty
fourth overall, just like Schudor Sanders, but he had his start. Finally,
Spencer Ratler, who still has an opportunity to win the
job with the Saints again this year. He's not lit
it up he's owned six as a starter, four touchdowns,
(02:34:26):
five interceptions. But look, you know, none of the quarterbacks
picked in the fifth round had become regular starters over
the last thirty years. Only one fifth round quarterbacks ever
made the Hall of Fame. That was the legendary Bob
Waterfield of the Rams. But those names I just gave you, Okay,
they're familiar names if you follow football, So slice it
(02:34:51):
this way. Shudor Sanders is now an NFL quarterback. If
he follows the path of every one of these names
I just met, he's going to get a minimum with
six starts in the NFL and perhaps as many as
one hundred and fifty like Mark Brunell did. Now we've
come full circle. Look, I talked about this at the
(02:35:13):
top of the show. Why did Shidor Sanders slide? And
I do not buy this narrative that you know, all
the stuff coming out of people's mouths Friday night was
really crazy. Oh how could thirty two teams pass on
the thirty two teams didn't pass on them? Because of
those thirty two teams, most likely a maximum of twelve,
(02:35:36):
more likely eight, we're on the market for a quarterback.
So really only eight to twelve teams passed on him
all those rounds, including the team that drafted him Cleveland
six times. So let's set the record straight. And when
people started to say it's personal, it's personally, it became pal.
I got news for you. It's always personal. I talked
(02:35:58):
to you, I talked earlier. It linked about the evaluation
process he did. Scouts and personnel directors and teams go
through an exhausting process, or really get to know the
gentleman that you don't door is going to get a
four year deal for about five million bucks. It's not
the steez AT's on first round money if he'd been
drafted by Pittsburgh, a guy eighteen million dollars. But it's
(02:36:21):
always personal. I told you I covered ten drafts on
an official capacity for the Lions between ninety eight o eight,
saw it all part of the Lions pre and post broadcasting.
One year, I want to say it was two thousand
and six, the Lions passed on a draft choice because,
wait for it, you don't think it's personal. The report
(02:36:42):
of the guy had bad breath, not joking. Something about
that triggered one of the Lions' scouts. He didn't like
it just thought it was bad attention to detail. It
said something about the individual, and they did not draft
that player. And that's just the way it is. So, look,
Shador Sanders, He's going to have an opportunity, and you know,
(02:37:09):
will he redeem himself or will other teams regret not
taking Shudor Sanders. Like mel Kiper said, why did he slide?
And I'll say it again for the third time. The
reason he slid is because the number that had been
banded about top five, two or three. The only people
who seemed confident Sanders would be in that area were
(02:37:31):
people named Sanders and his agents and his PR team
and his posse. And then a few of the media
members glombed on to this and it became the group
think echo chamber, and that's what it becomes. Bothersome nobody
I talked to in the NFL or people I know
that would be qualified to comment. Had him graded as
a first round choice, that's not the end of the world.
(02:37:52):
And perhaps had Shudor Sanders taken advantage of opportunities at
the Shrine Bowl and the NFL Combine to compete against
others and improve, he was ready to lead an NFL
team right away. But he opted against doing that instead
of claiming, you know that, hey, look at my college tape,
that's all NFL teams need to see. Well, turns out
(02:38:14):
it wasn't. And I would say Shudor's approach to this
whole pre daft process, pre draft process should be a
cautionary tale and what not to do for future quarterbacks.
Don't you simply declare yourself something you are and hope
nobody checks you out on it. The reality here Sanders
is a good football player. He's potentially a very quality prospect,
(02:38:36):
someone who could eventually turn into a functional starter as
long as Cleveland surrounds him with some talent and he
wins the job. He's got a long way to go.
We'll see. There are still questions about his arm, talent,
his size, his pocket processing, and let's be honest, he's
a good kid, but his overconfidence rubbs some people the
wrong way. It's gonna do it for the Bernie Fraters Show.
See you next week. Keep it locked up next to
(02:38:57):
great Andy Ferman, Fox Sports Radio.
