Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, this is the Doug Gottlieb Show. Heres in
the Bonus with Doug gottli What.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Up Doug Gottlieb Show.
Speaker 3 (00:11):
In the Bonus Fox Sports Radio, I Heart Radio Happen,
Welcome in. You know, it takes a big man to
met when he was wrong. And it's not because I
moved to Green Bay. It's not it's not because I
moved to Greenbank. It's because I've now experienced it in person.
(00:34):
You know, when they started moving the draft around, You're like,
I don't know, And there's, without question, there's gonna be.
I think the weather's gonna hold tonight, and next year
it's gonna be in Pittsburgh.
Speaker 2 (00:48):
You'll run up against the same situation.
Speaker 3 (00:50):
Pittsburgh actually had worse weather this winter than Green Bay did,
despite the fact that it's further south than the It's
that longitude and latitude.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
I'm not really sure.
Speaker 3 (00:58):
Point is that the more you move around to northern locations,
especially in spring, it's like box chocolates.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
You never know what you're gonna get. But what an
amazing business.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
The NFL has become, right like, to be able to
tour the country and generate I think they charged Green Bay,
like fourteen million dollars to bring it there. Plus I'm
sure they're making twenty five million dollars or so, and
they sell the rights. Here's the amazing thing about the NFL.
They sell the rights to the draft to ESPN, yet
(01:34):
on their own network, the NFL Network, they broadcast the
NFL Draft right, so they don't actually really sell the
exclusive rights. Yet they sell the exclusive rights. That's brilliant
because no one can call them on it. I remember
there was a year where Fox actually had the NFL Draft,
so did ESPN, so did the NFL network.
Speaker 2 (01:53):
It all happened.
Speaker 3 (01:57):
But I can remember a conversations that people have really
more before COVID a little bit after COVID over Roger
Goodell and the forty plus million dollar contract that he has,
and I'm here to tell you the dude is underpaid.
I don't know if these are all his ideas and
his execution whatever, but remember his job is to make
(02:18):
money for the owners. And during his tenure he's moved
not one but two teams to LA which oh yeah,
by the way, when he got that deal done, they
built the world's nicest, newest stadium, and they built all
the new offices for the NFL and the NFL network
all free. None of it came out of his own pocket.
(02:39):
In addition to which those franchises move, that creates you
have to pay a relocation fee of almost a billion dollars,
is like seven hundred fifty million dollars.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
Then the Raiders moved.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
To Vegas again given giving the NFL legitimacy in Sin
City in a stadium that they didn't have to pay for,
and another seven hundred fifty million dollar relocation fee.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
So you think about that, that's.
Speaker 3 (03:05):
Almost it's two and a half, almost three billion dollars.
If they're doing nothing other than hey, you want to move,
teams move, move, and they got into the number two market.
Then you factor in there on ESPN, CBS, Fox and
NBC and Amazon and Netflix, I mean on every streaming
(03:26):
service that matters except for Apple Plus, which I'm sure
is coming in the coming years. And they've taken the
NFL Draft on the road and it is a stunning
and overwhelming success. Like you can say a lot of
things about the NFL that you don't like. If you're
the idiot that says, hey, there's you get rid of
Roger Goodell he's not doing his job. You're officially the
(03:47):
dumbest human being on the face of the earth, and
feel free to never talk about business in public ever.
Speaker 2 (03:51):
Again.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Doug Gottlieb
Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on Fox
Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio.
Speaker 3 (04:03):
Let's Let's get to the Fox says and now.
Speaker 2 (04:09):
Every day of this time.
Speaker 3 (04:10):
In the bonus podcast here the Doug got Leap Show
on Fox Sports Rading, we played for you a previous
portion of a Fox Sports Radio or Fox Sports One show.
Speaker 4 (04:19):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (04:19):
In this particular case, we start with Brady Quinn, the
former first round draft pick of the Cleveland Browns, had
this to say about Shador Sanders not getting picked last night.
Speaker 5 (04:28):
Here's the reality, okay, because that was a part of
a draft where I dropped to the twenty second pick.
It doesn't matter where you go. It's it's just a
starting point. That's That's the reality of it. And there's
a bunch of reasons why. You know, some teams look
at other players and they like them here, they like
them there, they don't like them here. All that stuff
is for the teams to decide where the player is
(04:49):
the best fit. So from this standpoint, and I again
reached out to some guys last night, a lot of
guys just didn't feel like the talent equated to be
a first round pick. It wasn't so much about character concerns.
Speaker 6 (05:04):
It was more.
Speaker 5 (05:04):
About did they feel like he would be able to
come into a locker room and be a guy that
other guys would, you know, be around and like and
all that. They've kind of found him polarizing and that's
sometimes gonna be a good thing depending on who the
head coach and general managers, and sometimes can be a
bad thing because they don't want a guy to come
in who they feel like is going to ruffle a
bunch of feathers that the organization and the locker room
(05:25):
can't get behind.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
Yeah, again, everything is positioned dependent and role dependent. You know,
when you when you hear enough people say the same things,
and remember, like the criticism from the unnamed coach, which was, hey,
end of the day, he's just not that good, right
when you hear those things. And then in addition, I
(05:48):
think everyone understands that we can say polarizing or just say.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
He's he's arrogant, he's a private apple. Trees make apples.
He's like his dad.
Speaker 3 (05:58):
It works at cornerback, it doesn't work at quarterback. And
then when you factor in that the talent is not
so great that can overcome those things, it doesn't really
require as much explanation as being given. Here's Dan Patrick
talking about Shador.
Speaker 7 (06:13):
It felt like the I guess the best player. Most
notable player was Travis Hunter. The second most notable player
was Shadoor Sanders. Those were the two guys who were
talked about the most. Shadoor for not being drafted, got
a lot of airtime. Did you see his draft room?
He's got legendary Like, he's got legendary all over. It's
(06:37):
as if that's his wallpaper. It says legendary all over
his room, all over everywhere. They got legendary wallpaper there.
You know he got humbled yesterday.
Speaker 6 (06:48):
He did.
Speaker 7 (06:49):
And if you'll go back to when we had Dion
on when we were at the Super Bowl, it was like,
are you telling teams to not draft your son? And
I mean there was a whole big deal about he's
not going to go play for those teams and is
he going to pull an Eli Manning? But he got humbled.
Speaker 3 (07:09):
Uh, I don't know if shad or Sanders got humbled.
We we haven't heard that from Shadoor. We're making the
assumption that any normal human being could get humbled.
Speaker 2 (07:18):
Sports will humble with you.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
And if he's not humbled now, he'll get humbled when
he gets in the NFL.
Speaker 2 (07:23):
Remember was it.
Speaker 3 (07:25):
Was saying Peter is it Peter Peterman was the guy
from Pittsburgh who went in his first start for like Buffalo,
had five interceptions like, and the NFL will humble you.
I definitely think Shadoor and team Sanders got their come
up ands, but I I don't know if it humbled
them because you have so many on TV they're just
(07:48):
sickophans acting like Jesus and Cleets didn't get drafted last night.
You know, how could you not do this? Thirty two
teams had an opportunity. The New York Giants had two opportunities.
They took a quarterback and it wasn't named Shadoor Sanders. Now, look,
you got at some at some point. Make sure you
get it right in terms of the talent. But I
(08:08):
don't know if we make the assumption he's humbled, because
that's what would happen to us. But this is not
a normal family, it's not a normal outlook, it's not
a normal draft. He's not being treated like any other
kid who got quote unquote humbled.
Speaker 2 (08:24):
Right.
Speaker 3 (08:26):
I've heard in the last twelve hours, mel kiper Junior,
Joel Klatt, Ryan Clark, just to name a few, act
as if this is some affront to humanity that he
wasn't drafted in the first round. So I don't know
if that humbles him, because being humbled means you take
(08:48):
stock and understand what you may have done wrong or
maybe better off, what you need to do better. And
that doesn't strike me yet as where Shador Sanders is
or maybe even will be. Here's Colin Cowher talking about
the Jags trading up for Travis Hunter.
Speaker 8 (09:06):
It's hard for me to have sympathy for some of
these losing franchises. There's a reason the same team's draft
at the top every year, and then I always feel
like the Jets are up there, the Jaguars are up there.
So think about Jacksonville, and I never talked Jacksonville, so
this will be brief. They trade up in the draft.
They have a first time head coach, a first time GM,
(09:26):
a first time offensive coordinator, a first time defensive at coordinator.
They've had one little brief three day camp. You don't
even know your personnel good enough yet to make a
massive trade. Not to mention Travis Hunter is unbelievably talented,
but you got to deal with that offense defensive pivot
thing Like Jacksonville. You don't know your personnel well enough
(09:46):
yet to make a massive trade. You got first time
GM coach coordinators. How about you going through a camp
or two? Huge swing over compensate and Cleveland, Cleveland which
needs a future quarterback. I mean, can you just say
arch Manning. They now have two potential top ten picks
(10:09):
in next year's draft, which is a significantly better draft
than this one.
Speaker 3 (10:15):
Well, far be it from me to criticize Colin Cowherd,
But I'm gonna be critical of Colin because he's contradicting himself.
Speaker 2 (10:21):
Right.
Speaker 3 (10:22):
James Ladstone's a new general manager of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
He comes to the Jaguars from the Rams. The Rams
operated under the mantra of f the picks right, go
get the best players. James Lidstone, by the way, was
director scouting for the Rams. The last two years before that,
he was director of scouting strategy, so he has.
Speaker 2 (10:45):
A pretty good feel for what they have personnel wise.
Speaker 3 (10:47):
And I think it's fair to say that most people
thought there was a drop off in the draft after
the first two picks, right, he had two picks and
quarterback was not necessarily included that so I you know,
Travis Hunter is one of the two or three elite
prospects in this draft. And who wins and who loses
(11:11):
the draft oftentimes comes down to who you drafted in
the first round. And while it it sounds great to say, hey,
go through a year, everybody wants that first year.
Speaker 2 (11:22):
I can.
Speaker 3 (11:23):
I can tell you right now, go through that first
year to kind of get a feeling out process, figure
out what you got, figure out your place, figure out
your standing in the league, figure out.
Speaker 2 (11:29):
What you need what you don't need.
Speaker 3 (11:31):
But the reality is, if you're this close to trading
up and getting what you think is the best player
on the board, and he was the best player, Like,
he didn't go number one overall because the Titans need
a quarterback. Titans need to quarterback, but Travis Hunter is
the best player on the board. They went up and
got the best player in the draft. We do this
all the time in the NBA draft. Well, who had
the best draft?
Speaker 2 (11:52):
Who got the best player? I like their strategy.
Speaker 3 (11:57):
And the odd part about Colin is he's been such
a big fan of the Rams and how they've done things.
This is straight out of the Rams playbook. And yet
all of a sudden, now because you put the tag
on it Jacksonville Jaguars, Colin doesn't like it.
Speaker 2 (12:11):
I disagree.
Speaker 3 (12:12):
That's what the Fox said say.
Speaker 1 (12:16):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Doug Gottlieb
Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on Fox
Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 2 (12:27):
Every day. This time on The Doug Gottlieb Show.
Speaker 3 (12:29):
In the Bonus Podcast, we find out what is making
Jason Stewart mad.
Speaker 2 (12:34):
It's something we call you're annoying, and now it's your
annoying all right.
Speaker 3 (12:48):
Basically the next five or ten minutes we just try
and figure out who's the most annoying person or mantra
or narrative daily in sports. I don't think there can
be anything more annoying, anything more annoying than the Shador
Sanders stuff.
Speaker 2 (13:03):
There's nothing more annoying.
Speaker 3 (13:05):
On earth right, you have people on television Jason telling
America like, how can you have these liqu reports about
a kid being arrogant?
Speaker 2 (13:16):
I mean, have you watched college football in the past
two years?
Speaker 3 (13:19):
Have you ever seen a quarterback go in flash jewelry
to opposing team? Have you ever seen a quarterback bail
out of a Nebraska game because he was getting hit
too much, not hurt, just hit too often. Like all
of these things happened in real time. There's a reality
show where you can watch Shador Sanders and his brother
drive a Lamborghini and get a boot put on it
(13:41):
because they wouldn't pay their parking tickets.
Speaker 2 (13:43):
Like we know all of these things.
Speaker 3 (13:45):
They're not in the darkness, none of these are secrets,
and yet we're supposed to.
Speaker 2 (13:49):
Act like we don't know or there's some sort of
there's some.
Speaker 3 (13:56):
Like coercion of negativity because he's Dion's son, or maybe
because of his racial background. Like it's crazy to me
on how the entire draft has been taken over by
one guy who wasn't drafted and it's made into some
narrative statement about things which we know to be true,
(14:20):
no to be true.
Speaker 2 (14:21):
What do you think, Jay who else is annoying you today?
Speaker 4 (14:24):
Well, first of all, I really hope it's that last
theory you threw out there. I hope that the thirty
two teams colluded to not draft him so that they
could teach him a lesson that nobody is going to
change the way business is done in the NFL, not
even the son of the greatest cornerback that ever lived.
Speaker 6 (14:44):
I love that. I love that theory.
Speaker 4 (14:46):
I would love to, but I just have a feeling
at the end of the day, the kid isn't that
great as a quarterback, and he wasn't first round worthy.
Speaker 6 (14:53):
But anyway, that's the story.
Speaker 2 (14:55):
That's the story all of us.
Speaker 3 (14:56):
When they retired his number last weekend, all of us
are like, are you kidding?
Speaker 2 (15:02):
Right? Are you a kidden? You know so? But I
don't think it was the league, do I.
Speaker 3 (15:10):
You said it best when we were talking on the
phone earlier today, right where it's a.
Speaker 2 (15:14):
Lot like the Caitlin Clark thing. Why is Kaitlyn Clark
so so popular?
Speaker 3 (15:19):
It's not just because she's looks like the girl next
door from the Midwest. It's not just because she's she
plays like a Steph Curry plays Okay, it's not just
those two things.
Speaker 6 (15:31):
It's a pie chart.
Speaker 3 (15:32):
Yeah, yeah, it's completely and totally a pie chart. It
is a pie chart. So okay, so what's the what's
the Shadoor Sanders pie chart? On why he didn't get drafted, gay,
I'd say the biggest part of the pie is he's
just not that good, right, That's really the biggest part
of it. I agree, Okay, he's I think people think
(15:53):
he's more athletic than he is because his dad was
a freak athlete. Chador is not. You know, he doesn't
have a huge arm. He holds on the ball too long.
In many ways, he mirrors kind of a Ben Roethlisberger
type without his strong arm. And I'd also point out,
and this may be a little thing, but you talk
(16:14):
to NFL people, and it's a real thing. Everyone knows
that you extend the life of your arm when you
play either indoors or in altitude. Indoors are in out Toude.
Drew Brees had a great career. It was made even
better because he played in New Orleans. Peyton Manning played
indoors and then he played in outitude. Helps your arm
out he's playing in altitude. Look at how they played
(16:34):
on the road, look at how they played at home. Okay,
Senor Sanders was he was a three star coming out
of high school. Like, he's a good player who's made
himself into a good quarterback. And I actually completely agree
with his dad, only the opposite belief in it. When
he said last week, if his name wasn't Sanders, it
wouldn't even be a discussion. If his name wasn't Sanders,
(16:57):
we wouldn't be discussing why he didn't get drafted yesterday.
Speaker 2 (17:00):
His name wasn't Sanders.
Speaker 3 (17:01):
If Dion didn't decide to stay at Colorado, he would
have had his number retire. If you just judge him
as a football player, he's probably a second or third
round pick. And then when you factor in that as
part of the pie, appears to be arrogant, entitled. I
(17:24):
think those are all part of the pie chart. As
to whiting a draft, what else is annoying you?
Speaker 4 (17:30):
The way ESPN did cam Ward Dirty last night, I
think you were watching wives, so maybe you missed this.
This is how the first pick in the draft went
on ESPN last night.
Speaker 9 (17:41):
We're the first pick in the twenty twenty five NFL Draft.
The Tennessee Titans select Cameron Ward, quarterback Miami.
Speaker 10 (17:58):
As he said, he made the right call year ago,
going back to school, finished fourth in the Heisman voting.
Speaker 2 (18:04):
And there's one.
Speaker 10 (18:04):
Season after you started fifty seven games in college. And
I'm being told, as he makes his way to the stage,
we will watch cam Ward make his way to the stage.
But I'm being told, we have major breaking news, Adam Sheffer,
What do we have?
Speaker 5 (18:19):
All right?
Speaker 2 (18:19):
Clean? We have the first trade of round one.
Speaker 8 (18:22):
The Cleveland Browns have traded out of the second overall pick,
then moving back to number five in the Jacksonville Jaguar spot.
Speaker 2 (18:31):
In return, the.
Speaker 4 (18:32):
Browns will get the numb So these they spent the
next five minutes talking about the trade. I think they
gave cam Ward exactly two and a half seconds of
his moment. Uh, cam Ward, I don't care how boring
the guy is. I don't care how boring the Titans are.
He was done dirty by the broadcast last night. You
would think that an executive producer or somebody in the
(18:54):
truck would be like, dude, we gotta we have to
do what we're paid to do. And it's like, give
shine to these players.
Speaker 2 (19:02):
Well, you have was it five minutes in between.
Speaker 6 (19:04):
Picks eight to ten minutes, eight to.
Speaker 3 (19:06):
Ten minutes, seventeen picks and they couldn't they couldn't do
the cam Ward thing and then whip around to the trade.
I guess their fear was that the next pick would
be made right away, and maybe the thought is that
cam Ward had already been off discussed leading up to it.
But yeah, that's that's terrible production, right, terrible production. It's
(19:29):
one of the things about the NBA that it's hard
to cover. But you know the NBA, half the guys
are drafted, they're drafted for a different team, but they
don't circle back to those trades until later in the night,
so it's a little bit different. But yeah, that's that's annoying.
Speaker 4 (19:43):
It exposes the blurred lines that ESPN constantly gets themselves into.
A couple of years ago, we saw it when Jalen
Rose was the one who got the Ja Moran interview.
If you're the rights holder who is paid, who pays
them hundreds of millions of dollars to promote a sport,
how can you also cover it the way you would
(20:05):
a news organization. It's a it's it's a conflict that
comes up all the time, and then last night cam
Ward was the victim of it. And then the next pick,
the NFL production crew got it wrong. Eric Armstead is
an amazing guy. I met him when he joined us
(20:25):
on set at the Super Bowl. He's the Walter Peyton
Man of the Year. He's an incredible kid. He's a
great guy. This is nothing against Eric Armstead. I blame
the NFL production staff. So they just did cam Ward
like that on TV. And the next pick is going
to be Travis hunter But they bring Eric Armstead on
(20:45):
who's a member of the Jaguars, tell him that he's
a Walter Payton Award winner. And Eric Armstead is the
one who gives who announces Travis Hunters as the second
pick in the draft, like in thirty Years when Track
a hundred of showing his grandkids the first his chance
at Roger Goodell naming his name on Draft night, it's
(21:08):
gonna be some random dude who is like a really
good guy, but nobody knows.
Speaker 3 (21:14):
Yeah, the whole thing is just bizarre, right where you're
trying to fit a bunch of different stuff in, Like
I get it, you're trying to get Eric Armstead. You're
trying to get Walter Payton Man of the Year. You're
trying to shove ten pounds off you know what into
a five pound bag. That one didn't work either, I
agree with you.
Speaker 6 (21:34):
And then finally it comes down to this.
Speaker 4 (21:39):
I had said when Jacksonville made the.
Speaker 6 (21:42):
Hiring of their pick of their coach, what's his name, Cohen,
Liam Cohen, Liam Cohen, that if.
Speaker 4 (21:48):
He wasn't astute enough or on the details enough to
learn the fighting cry of the team that just paid
him upwards of ten million dollars to coach their team,
how is he how is he going to be as
a coach. So last night somebody put together these two things.
(22:09):
It's the head coach of the Jaguars doing duvall at
the press conference. And then it's Travis Hunter, who was
just drafted by the Jaguars doing it due ball.
Speaker 1 (22:22):
I just did my best duvall back there, but I
got you du.
Speaker 6 (22:29):
So Travis Hunter. Credit to him.
Speaker 4 (22:31):
I don't know how long he knew he was going
to get drafted by the Jaguars, but he put work into.
Speaker 6 (22:37):
What the chant is. Yeah, he tells me that he cares.
Speaker 4 (22:41):
He endeared himself to fans, which is the opposite of
what Cohen did on this press conference.
Speaker 2 (22:46):
Due ball, Due ball. It's pretty good. Pretty good from
Travis Hunter, I agree with you. I got one more.
I got one more things annoying me.
Speaker 3 (22:58):
You know, most of those guys last night that were
on stage, they have designers. They have guys that pick
out their suit, pick out their clothes, Like I get
the Golden Kid. He's a wide receiver. His last name
is Golden. He's got gold on his suit. Maybe this
is just me. This is old. It's not old, man,
Get off my lawn. It's just the intelligence of.
Speaker 2 (23:21):
Cost per use.
Speaker 3 (23:23):
I'm all about cost per use in anything I buy.
All right, all of those outfits last night, no one's
ever gonna wear again.
Speaker 2 (23:32):
They might as well be costumes. Right.
Speaker 3 (23:35):
If it's me and I'm gonna get a great suit,
I'm gonna get a great suit. I can always wear weddings, funerals,
bar mitzvahs, you name it.
Speaker 2 (23:43):
Gay.
Speaker 3 (23:44):
I just it felt like every designer got together and
goes like, what color are you doing? Okay, I'm gonna
do a necklace with a medallion. You do a necklace
with a medallion. Let's all do it. Together, the lack
of forethought into will I ever wear this again? And
do I look like the guy sitting next to me?
(24:05):
And the kind of costume sort of TV show.
Speaker 2 (24:08):
Art to it. I don't know. It just annoys me.
Is that wrong?
Speaker 3 (24:12):
Like I'm just waiting for the first guy to go
up there like in some sweats, or go up there
in some jeans and some jeans and some sneaks and
a hoodie like the rest of us dress. Maybe that's
too much, but just even a solid black suit, albeit
tailored with a beautiful tie and a nice shirt, Like
(24:33):
where is that?
Speaker 2 (24:33):
Instead? You got all these suits.
Speaker 3 (24:35):
And these lapel pins and tie clips and medallion's Like, look,
I get it, you're coming into a lot of money,
but you're never wearing those clothes ever again. So I
don't really feel bad about the fact that you're wasting
money doing it. I just I think the it's annoying
how those designers all seem to get together and come
up with the exact same thought.
Speaker 4 (24:56):
So we got how the ESPN did cam Wo, how
the NFL did Travis Hunter, the Duval mashup, and what
you were annoyed about.
Speaker 3 (25:07):
I'm gonna go I'm going to go with how ESPN
did cam Ward. He's the first pick in the NFL draft.
You knew that there was a chance there was a
trade coming, and like part of this is their over
(25:28):
reliance on Chefty to give them information. And now that
they've hired Schragger, I'm sure Chefty's like, I'm gonna have
to break more stories.
Speaker 2 (25:35):
But it what did the kids say? It's not that deep,
not that deep?
Speaker 3 (25:38):

Cowboys star Michah Parson was doing a show for a
bleacher Report or Turner last night and he completely shit
on their first round pick. He wanted a receiver to
play opposite Ceedee Lamb, and he got frustrated and that
went viral. And then the same group of guys on
this Bleacher Report broadcast put Booker, the guy that Dallas
(26:19):
ended up drafting, onto the show with Michael Parsons, and
this is how it went.
Speaker 11 (26:25):
You had one of my favorite quotes of the entire
draft process. You said, quote, I make guys not love
football anymore. What does it feel like to see the
love of football leave someone's eyes.
Speaker 12 (26:38):

all the pre workout, they get so excited to play
football until they come across Tyler Booker and then when
I'm going after you quart after quarter player after play
series after series, and I started to see that love
leave their eyes, Like that's what makes me look the
(27:00):
game like, I just really.
Speaker 7 (27:01):
Like that.
Speaker 4 (27:09):
Was Michael Parsons loving what he had to say. Now
he loves the pick ten minutes after crapping on.
Speaker 2 (27:14):
