Solo? I'm a bachelor this weekend, the family is on

as if they are your own personal assistance of sorts

the show, So a producer from Bravo is coming forward
saying that talent on the show are actually actually punished
when they get sober. So full disclosure here. He's an

Emmy Award winning producer, Patrick McDonald. He was a producer
on my show, The Gossip Table. I know Patrick really well,
super smart, super talented, has talked about his demons, has
had some terrible issues himself with sobriety. Then he got
a job on The Housewives, and then they sort of
like pushed him to one side once it was revealed
that he had started an only Fans page. For people

that don't know what only Fans is. It's a subscription
based service where you pay money and you get access
to often very X rated content. So Patrick has started
this page. Bravo doesn't like that. Well now that Patrick
has basically been five. If you get fired, if you
get pushed out, if you're angry, you tell your story.
So guess who's swooped in? Guess who's swooped in? So

what she would say? Save the day? Who would beany
fr Bethany Frankel. You've got it right, So Bethany reached
out to Patrick. Of course she did, and swered, come
on the podcast, and then she asked him really good
but probing questions about Bravo. She knew all the answers,
and she got him to say, basically that everything is
amplified on the show and it's mind for entertainment, including

people's substance abuse and problems. Patrick said, it was really
hard to work on that that's serious because the women
are not treated that well. And then get this, this
is a part that really broke my heart. And they
had examples and receipts. If you get sober, if you
decide you don't want to be a sloppy mess anymore,
which we should encourage people to do, you're probably going

to get demoted or fired. And there's a few examples
of ladies on the show who got sober and were
no longer real housewives. There were friends of housewives then
pushed out. And so this is just an ugly truth
that I think we all move Patrick, But now it's
been said out loud.

Now do you think that, I mean, we know, like
drinking and moderation should be it should be you know, tolerated,
right and do it in small amounts, but in the
sake of reality TV, sober housewives are not ratings worthy.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
Housewives, you know what I mean.
Speaker 1 (04:23):
So it's kind of like, you get sober, Yes, you're
you're not as interesting as when you were drinking, But
the whole point of why you signed up is because
you will have these lavish personalities. And I'm not saying
that they need to drink, but I can understand why
they kind of get pushed out because they're not as entertaining.
Speaker 2 (04:42):
You know. Yeah, if you if you want train wreck TV,
you need a train wreck, and the best one of
the best ways to get a train wreck is to
hire train recks and then poor alcohol into the situation.
It's like gasoline on a fire. So this is where
I think Bravo has to have some really big internal conversations.
When the Housewives started, it was it's just ridiculous, and
we're in a different place, and we enjoyed how messy

it was. But now I think the world has changed
a little bit with me too, with all the other
other things that are going on in the world, and
Bravos sort of want Housewives at least to be perceived.
It's almost a little bit more classy. And I think
part of this is Bravo is owned by NBC. NBC
is a really serious news organization. I'm not sure NBC

want these drunken ladis. A lot of them have gone
to jail. There's even been a suicide on the show,
and so all that was fun when it was just Bravo.
But now this mergers going forward, where NBC is getting
rid of some of their channels, they're going to keep Bravo.
It's about advertisers. That's what I learned very very quickly
about working on television. I thought initially are so naive.
(05:44):
I thought it was about great content, really being funny
and witty and breaking stories. No, it's about provided content,
the low the producers, the company to sell ads. It's
about ads. In fact, the content is just an excuse
to make money. They don't really.
Speaker 1 (06:03):
Care this podcast. This podcast means nothing. That's because we
care about the content. If we stopped caring about the content,
it just did really boring stories that plugged advertisers products.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
I've got a great story about a new vacuum cleaner, Garrett, like,
if we did those type of stories, nobody would listen.
And I'm more interested in the naughties than I am
actually making any money from this. So it is a
dilemma that shows have, and you've got to be clever
about it. You've got to walk that line. I think
you've got to give good enough content that it's great,
and also you don't want to really make your advertisers angry.
Speaker 1 (06:38):
Right of course. I mean they're the ones that keep
the bill, your light phone turned on, the lights on,
your mortgage paid. So I get it under I understand it.
But do you think we're at the point where the
Housewives need to retire?
Speaker 2 (06:51):
Yeah? I'm over it a little bit. What I used
to love about the Housewives was what I loved about
the first five years of American Idol. It was really
really wrong. Like we used to laugh at people on
Idol who couldn't sing, who probably had mental health challenges
and thought they were great singers. I met William Hung
She remember William. That isn't funny. Now if somebody came

on who was clearly struggling and they were humiliated in
front of everybody, I don't think I want to watch
that anymore. So I've changed, not just not just society
has changed what I found funny ten years ago. I
don't kind of find so.
Speaker 1 (07:25):
Funny funny you say American Idol because I started watching
it again because you know, you want, you want that
family show on a sunlight and it just seems like
given they just got rid of the bed and it's
like you just come on, you sing, and everybody's like, yes,
yes you're going through, you're going through. Or it's like
I'm gonna say no, but if the other two say yes,

you're going through. So it felt like everybody that at
least was on camera this season we got to just
see them go through, you know.
Speaker 2 (07:54):
So it's kind of like there was no you need
some conflict, You need some conflict, and you've got to

her private jet. She's not flying Jet Blue or United
or private jet, private jet, but she was with her

would look to be like a bodyguard based off of
the guy's stature. And it seems that the bodyguard was
holding at first, it looks like a baby, and people
were like, Brittany, Brittany.

But if you zoom in, it's a it's a doll,
it's a it's a it's a it's a fake, it's
a it's not even a real baby. But but Brittany, look,
calm uh. The the very burly bodyguard with big arms
holding a plastic baby pretty much wrapped in add a
little odd and maybe it's a comfort thing. I don't know,
but you know, or maybe it's a comfort, a comfort

doll for the bodyguard. So Mayby is his doll, you know.

Inside she has had her dolls for a long time.
She's had these dolls for a really long time. She
finds them very comforting. You know. I don't judge all
this stuff. If flying you might get a little anxious,
if there's something that makes you a little happier when
you get on the flight or when you leave home.
A lot of these stars and they're a home, they're
on the road, Britney is on vacation. You know. I

think we all have our little quirks. Mine is Crayon's
Crayola crayons, and I've always got one in my pocket.
And if i feel a little bit anxious, I smell
it and it reminds me of being back home as
a child. It reminds me of been four or five
years old. The smell of a crayon just makes me happy.
It brings the smiles to my face. So that's all

I wish, please, I don't need to be jumped as

it's somewhere my parents out so I really look for it, but.

Get it should be in the Smithsonian. Let's get hold
of that guarantee. It sounds great. People have little quirks,
like my wedding ring gives me a lot of pleasure.
I find when I get a little nervous, I play
with my wedding ring and it just reminds me it's
one of those three band rings, and so I can
sort of roll it on my finger and it gives
me a lot of comfort. It makes me happy. I
think you do.

You use your wedding ring as a gauge to how
much you're like if you put on any weight.
Speaker 2 (11:15):
Oh no, it never comes off, so you know what
I mean.

So if it becomes loose like it.

Like, that's a good thing. I sort of grow around it.
Like you know, sometimes you see a tree that's got
a wire around it, and the tree explodes around this
wire whatever. That's the sort of way I look at it.
But I think we all have little comforts. We know
Britney struggles and if a doll plastic dolls make her happy,
if this is her happy place, good for you, Brittany. Okay,
moving long, So this is quite explosive. So a publicist

text about Blake Lively were leaked, and this is what
sort of exploded in the New York Times. Now that
publicist is making clear that she did not leak these texts,
but they were supeanut So Stephanie Jones, who I've known
for a long time, she reps Tom Brady, a really
smart person. She's been dragged into this Blake Lively just
in Baldonis suit, which will not go away. And she
(12:04):
was branded as like a backstapping publicist, somebody that had
leaked damning text to the New York Times as part
of like a revenge plot. Well, now it's been made
very very clear that that did not happen. She didn't
just send texts to the New York Times. They were supoened.
So Blake's people subpoenaed these texts. When you get a subpoena,
(12:27):
you can't say no, if I ask Garrett for his texts,
he can say no. I'd be furious. But he can
say no. If a judge asks you, they don't ask.
If a judge tell, if a court tells you, you
have to hand them over. So Stephanie here has been
painted as a villain, as like a gossipy goose, someone

behind the scenes, leaking information, planting bad stories. That isn't
how it happened. This was legal compliance. This was not
a calculated risk. It makes it diff from Scaretts.

Oh of course. But but now, yeah, I mean, we're
so far into this. I mean, this is this is
the worst game of telephone ever played in the history
of the game telephone, you know what I mean? Where
it started out with one thing and then look where

a hand over their text because the court ordered them to.
But we're way past that because months ago we figured

feels like it was ages ago. But then you hear
about it, you hear Will Smith, and it's still the
first thing that comes to mind. I think you know
the Oscar slap, but it's one of those things where
you don't think about it. You don't think about this,

the slap, So then when you hear about it, you're like,
oh wow, I totally forgot about that, so it's still
fresh in people's minds. I think will kind of miss

you tried to do something different to get away from
movies for the time being and concentrate over there. But
some people just can't let it go.

Yeah, it felt like a distraction, like he was doing
it to distract us. But now the distraction is going
to be that it really it didn't just underperform this

So you know, it's I think things like that normalize
the celebritiness in everybody, you know what I mean.

They do let people in a little bit, let people
and that's a good philosophy. If you go on a
date or with your with your friends, let people into
your lives. They don't want to hurt you. People. Most
people are really good and the more you know about
each other, the more you love. And so I think

in the Blake Lively movie. It ends with us. He's
back out there doing another one guy not in trouble.
He's the one person who is not in trouble. People
say it's a really really good guy and he actually
does not want to really get involved in the Blake,
just in drama at all, but people are clapping at

Top Gun movies. He's super super sexy, he's always shirtless,
and they're saying Brandon is like a Walmart version of him. Well,

the low the producers, the company to sell ads. It's
about ads. In fact, the content is just an excuse
to make money. They don't really.

Care this podcast. This podcast means nothing. That's because we
care about the content. If we stopped caring about the content,
it just did really boring stories that plugged advertisers products.

I've got a great story about a new vacuum cleaner, Garrett, like,
if we did those type of stories, nobody would listen.
And I'm more interested in the naughties than I am
actually making any money from this. So it is a
dilemma that shows have, and you've got to be clever
about it. You've got to walk that line. I think
you've got to give good enough content that it's great,
and also you don't want to really make your advertisers angry.

Right of course. I mean they're the ones that keep
the bill, your light phone turned on, the lights on,
your mortgage paid. So I get it under I understand it.
But do you think we're at the point where the
Housewives need to retire?
Speaker 2 (06:51):
Yeah? I'm over it a little bit. What I used
to love about the Housewives was what I loved about
the first five years of American Idol. It was really
really wrong. Like we used to laugh at people on
Idol who couldn't sing, who probably had mental health challenges
and thought they were great singers. I met William Hung
She remember William. That isn't funny. Now if somebody came

on who was clearly struggling and they were humiliated in
front of everybody, I don't think I want to watch
that anymore. So I've changed, not just not just society
has changed what I found funny ten years ago. I
don't kind of find so.
Speaker 1 (07:25):
Funny funny you say American Idol because I started watching
it again because you know, you want, you want that
family show on a sunlight and it just seems like
given they just got rid of the bed and it's
like you just come on, you sing, and everybody's like, yes,
yes you're going through, you're going through. Or it's like
I'm gonna say no, but if the other two say yes,

you're going through. So it felt like everybody that at
least was on camera this season we got to just
see them go through, you know.

So it's kind of like there was no you need
some conflict, You need some conflict, and you've got to

just nice, i'd be boring and nice. I'm not even nice.

would look to be like a bodyguard based off of
the guy's stature. And it seems that the bodyguard was
holding at first, it looks like a baby, and people
were like, Brittany, Brittany.

But if you zoom in, it's a it's a doll,
it's a it's a it's a it's a fake, it's
a it's not even a real baby. But but Brittany, look,
calm uh. The the very burly bodyguard with big arms
holding a plastic baby pretty much wrapped in add a
little odd and maybe it's a comfort thing. I don't know,
but you know, or maybe it's a comfort, a comfort

doll for the bodyguard. So Mayby is his doll, you know.

Inside she has had her dolls for a long time.
She's had these dolls for a really long time. She
finds them very comforting. You know. I don't judge all
this stuff. If flying you might get a little anxious,
if there's something that makes you a little happier when
you get on the flight or when you leave home.
A lot of these stars and they're a home, they're
on the road, Britney is on vacation. You know. I

think we all have our little quirks. Mine is Crayon's
Crayola crayons, and I've always got one in my pocket.
And if i feel a little bit anxious, I smell
it and it reminds me of being back home as
a child. It reminds me of been four or five
years old. The smell of a crayon just makes me happy.

I find when I get a little nervous, I play
with my wedding ring and it just reminds me it's
one of those three band rings, and so I can
sort of roll it on my finger and it gives
me a lot of comfort. It makes me happy. I
think you do.

You use your wedding ring as a gauge to how
much you're like if you put on any weight.

Oh no, it never comes off, so you know what
I mean.

So if it becomes loose like it.

Like, that's a good thing. I sort of grow around it.
Like you know, sometimes you see a tree that's got
a wire around it, and the tree explodes around this
wire whatever. That's the sort of way I look at it.
But I think we all have little comforts. We know
Britney struggles and if a doll plastic dolls make her happy,
if this is her happy place, good for you, Brittany. Okay,
moving long, So this is quite explosive. So a publicist

text about Blake Lively were leaked, and this is what
sort of exploded in the New York Times. Now that
publicist is making clear that she did not leak these texts,
but they were supeanut So Stephanie Jones, who I've known
for a long time, she reps Tom Brady, a really
smart person. She's been dragged into this Blake Lively just
in Baldonis suit, which will not go away. And she
(12:04):
was branded as like a backstapping publicist, somebody that had
leaked damning text to the New York Times as part
of like a revenge plot. Well, now it's been made
very very clear that that did not happen. She didn't
just send texts to the New York Times. They were supoened.
So Blake's people subpoenaed these texts. When you get a subpoena,
(12:27):
you can't say no, if I ask Garrett for his texts,
he can say no. I'd be furious. But he can
say no. If a judge asks you, they don't ask.
If a judge tell, if a court tells you, you
have to hand them over. So Stephanie here has been
painted as a villain, as like a gossipy goose, someone
(12:48):
behind the scenes, leaking information, planting bad stories. That isn't
how it happened. This was legal compliance. This was not
a calculated risk. It makes it diff from Scaretts.
Speaker 1 (13:00):
Oh of course. But but now, yeah, I mean, we're
so far into this. I mean, this is this is
the worst game of telephone ever played in the history
of the game telephone, you know what I mean? Where
it started out with one thing and then look where
Look where we're at right now. We're not even at
Lake and Justin anymore. We're at the publicists who had
a hand over their text because the court ordered them to.
But we're way past that because months ago we figured

the publishers leaked the text.

But you can't.

We can't walk that back.

You can't walk it back. It's so messy. You two
settle this. You got to destroy each okay quickly before

Yeah, listen to this. So he put out an album
just about a couple of weeks ago, first album in
a very, very long time. We're talking like nineties was
the last time we really put out an album. Yes,
he put out songs like men in Black, but his
actual album. Guess how many copies he sold.

In the UK? Twenty thousand copies.
Speaker 1 (13:59):
Minus a few zeros. Try two hundred and sixty eight copies.
That is that physical copies, actual physical copies. Now is
streaming could be different, but actual physical copies two hundred
and sixty eight. I think people still haven't gotten over
the Oscar slap, which is weird because to me it

feels like it was ages ago. But then you hear
about it, you hear Will Smith, and it's still the
first thing that comes to mind. I think you know
the Oscar slap, but it's one of those things where
you don't think about it. You don't think about this,
you don't think about Will Smith, you don't think about
the slap, So then when you hear about it, you're like,
oh wow, I totally forgot about that, so it's still
fresh in people's minds. I think will kind of miss

the mark on this album, you know, but I think
you tried to do something different to get away from
movies for the time being and concentrate over there. But
some people just can't let it go.
Speaker 2 (14:54):
Yeah, it felt like a distraction, like he was doing
it to distract us. But now the distraction is going
to be that it really it didn't just underperform this
outright bomb. Oh yeah, yeah, Okay, we're going to take

So you know, it's I think things like that normalize
the celebritiness in everybody, you know what I mean.

They do let people in a little bit, let people
and that's a good philosophy. If you go on a
date or with your with your friends, let people into

people are really good and the more you know about
each other, the more you love. And so I think
this is just lovely and nicest of the day. And

in the Blake Lively movie. It ends with us. He's
back out there doing another one guy not in trouble.
He's the one person who is not in trouble. People
say it's a really really good guy and he actually

just in drama at all, but people are clapping at

Top Gun movies. He's super super sexy, he's always shirtless,
and they're saying Brandon is like a Walmart version of him. Well,
