(00:47):
bestseller Shook One, which propelled him to become one of
the world's leading voices in the mental health discussion. Here
with us to discuss his Black Effect podcast festival, taking
place on April twenty sixth at Yards in Atlanta, we
have our very special guest, radio Hall of Fame inductee,
television personality and best selling author, Charlemagne the God This

(01:11):
is the Black Information.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
Network Daily Podcast.

Speaker 1 (01:13):
I'm your host ramses Jah and I'm your host Qward.
All right, Charlemagne, welcome back to the show man. I
know we caught you moving around. We won't be too long,
but you got some exciting things going on in your world.
So talk to us about the Black Effect Podcast Festival.
This is the one that's taking place in Atlanta, So,
you know, for the folks who haven't been that are

(01:34):
just hearing about it for the first time, tell us
about what they can expect, what's going on there, what
are some of the highlights folks can look forward to.

Speaker 3 (01:41):
Well, I was supposed to say thank you first of all,
Q thank you ramses you know for having me the
Black Effect Podcast Festival. This is our third time doing it.
I like to call it, you know, a Black family reunion,
but it's a Black family reunion for people who are,
you know, lovers of the podcast culture. Know whether you're
a person who just likes to listen to podcast, whether

(02:03):
you're a person who you know is a podcaster or
just wants to know about the business of podcasting. There's
not another weekend that you're gonna go to anywhere, another
event that you're gonna go to anywhere that you know,
connects all those dots for you.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
Like the Black Effect Podcast Festival, does you know.

Speaker 3 (02:20):
That's been the biggest That's that's the that's the most
beautiful thing that I've seen about it, you know, the
last couple of years. It's just all of these people
who are in love with this new medium called podcasting.
Because you know, whether people realize it or not, podcasting
is a baby. Podcasting is something that's maybe like, you know,
fifteen years old, and at this point, I don't even

(02:40):
I don't even know if it's really that old.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
You know.

Speaker 3 (02:43):
And and for the fact the fact that you know,
people listen to podcasts all the time, like right now,
they might see our show Breakfast Club, or they might
see you know, y'all show on Black Information Network, and
their mind just says, oh, that's a podcast, yeah, just
because that's that's the new laneguage, right, Like, that's the
new world that we're in.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
So the fact that we have this young medium that's
you know, been able.

Speaker 3 (03:05):
To become a festival, like people actually buy tickets because
they want to see their favorite podcasts on stage and
spend the day doing that. It's incredible man. So, you know,
anybody who loves podcast culture are the business of podcasting
Black Effect podcast festivals.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
Where you need to be on Saturday.

Speaker 4 (03:24):
So it's interesting that you brought that up because we're
all radio guys and the podcasting thing is not just
new in general, but new to all of us as
we transition to doing you know, terrestrial broadcasting and podcasting
for our digital audience. For those who haven't attended the
festival or who are just hearing about it for the
first time, would you say say it's more for the
creators to networking connect dots or more for their fans

(03:48):
that come to connect with them or is it a
blend of both?

Speaker 3 (03:52):
Literally both, Like I mean when I say both, it's
it's absolutely both, because you know, you'll meet people out
there who have their own podcast who want to know
how to amplify their own podcasts, people who are looking
to get in the podcast space. And you know, we
have panels throughout the day that you know, teach you
about the create the creative a podcast, the business of podcasting,

(04:12):
and just going around to the different booths, like you know,
Nissan has an activation they do out there called to
Pitch Your Podcast activation, So people literally go there, you know,
to pitch their to pitch their podcast. So you have
people who just want to come enjoy the talent that's
going to be on stage, like tanking Jay Valentine with
their R and B Money podcasts, are Cam Newton with

(04:33):
the Funky Friday's podcast? Are you know, Sarah Jake Roberts
Sarah Jake's Roberts with the Women of All podcasts?

Speaker 2 (04:39):
People that just want to come watch them.

Speaker 3 (04:41):
And then it's people who want to you know, rupt
shoulders with them and learn how they can also, you know,
have some of the biggest podcasts in the world, So
it's a mixture of both.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
Now you mentioned early on that this is the third annual.
What what is it about this one that's going to
be different from the other two? An thing that maybe
you wanted to do the first couple of times and
now you finally get to do it, or from folks
that have been to the first two, what what what
new uh is going to be taking place this time?

Speaker 2 (05:10):
That's a great question.

Speaker 3 (05:11):
You know, if it's not broke, don't fix it, you
know what I mean, clearly, clearly it's been working the
last couple of years, but you know, every year I
find new things that that we want to do. That's
why we added a couple more panels this year, just
because people really do like the panels.

Speaker 2 (05:26):
Like the first couple of years, you.

Speaker 3 (05:28):
Know, we had a panel about the business of podcasting,
another panel about financial literacy, but this year we got
the business of podcasting, we got financial literacy, but we've
added mental health, you know, because you know, I'm a
huge mental health advocate, so you know, it's it's like,
you know, I feel like the panels are something that
people really really look forward to. So yeah, every every

(05:50):
year you're looking, you're looking to add things, you know,
but it's it's it's been. It's it's a great event
you know that people have loved. So there's there's there's nothing.

Speaker 2 (05:58):
I would I would change quite quite yet.

Speaker 4 (06:02):
So this is important to say out loud. A lot
of people that you meet in the spaces that we
work in, you connect with them. They're like, yeah, you
ever need something, hit me up, here's my number. But
that's just kind of a thing people do to be polite.
Ramaes and I have the benefit of having you say
that to us, and every time we've ever needed you,
every time we've ever reached out, you're always like I
got you. We got to extend that back to you.

Speaker 2 (06:25):
Bro.

Speaker 4 (06:25):
So the fourth annual, we there whatever you need. Hey,
I really get there. We're going to be there. So besides,
and do you have any surprise guests this year that
people may be, you know, very excited to know are
going to be in the building.

Speaker 3 (06:42):
Yo, that's a great question because every year there are
surprised guests because you got to keep in mind, neither
podcast so people bring guests on their podcast.

Speaker 2 (06:50):
I think like the first year, like you know, Porscha Williams.

Speaker 3 (06:53):
Popped out and she did the We We Talked Back
podcast with my girls, Tam and AJ. Last year, t
I popped out and did the ball Alert podcasts, you
know with ball Alert, and I already know I know,
I know who Sarah Jakes Roberts is bringing out.

Speaker 2 (07:11):
I know who R and B Money is bringing out.

Speaker 3 (07:14):
I don't know if I'm at liberty to say I
know who Cam Newton is bringing out. But yes, there's definitely,
you know, gonna be surprises there. And that's the beauty
of the Black Effect podcast network. You just don't know,
you know who's going to bring people out. But just
I've always teld folks, these are podcasts, so it's not
just them upstage on stage doing that show.

Speaker 2 (07:33):
They're definitely gonna be bringing people out.

Speaker 1 (07:35):
So yeah, and I would imagine there'll be people in
the in the audience too, notable people in the audience
observing their favorite podcasters too.

Speaker 3 (07:43):
So oh man, last year, you know, you know, Sway
popped up and you know, different athletes and artists. So
it's yeah, it's even the calls that we've been getting like, hey,
we're gonna be in town, we want to just you know,
come come to the Podcast Festival. It's a beautiful thing.
It just feels good to have built something that, you know,
in year three, you know, already feels like an event

(08:05):
that people that people know they.

Speaker 2 (08:06):
Got to be too.

Speaker 1 (08:07):
Yeah, yea, So how about this, because I know that
there's always going to be some surprise guest tuck, but
maybe just a personally because I know that you're a
fan of a lot of these podcasts too. Indeed, a
lot of the shows, uh, you know are on the
Black the Black Effect, and so how about this, What
are some of the topics you might be looking forward

(08:29):
to being discussed? Because you know, we've had a huge
dramatic cultural shift in the past six months, and I
know you might be looking forward to a couple of
things getting discussed and and shared, uh at the at
the festival. So anything you're looking forward to there, yeah.

Speaker 2 (08:45):
Man, I mean, you know, Sarah J.

Speaker 3 (08:46):
Roberts is somebody who you know even before she had
her podcast, like, you know, I love I love listening
to her father, Bishop TD Jakeson. You know, I read
a lot of her books. I read a lot of
her father's books. You know, I love her husband, Torrey.
I call them first Family of Faith. So you know,
I'm always looking forward to what God puts on their

(09:07):
spirit to deliver to a room.

Speaker 2 (09:10):
And I've never seen Sarah do her podcast live.

Speaker 3 (09:12):
You know, I listened to it of course, the woman
of all podcasts, So I'm just interested to see, you know,
what she does on that stage and podcast form, Like
I know what she does on stage when she's preaching,
but you know, I've never seen her on stage and
podcast forms, so I'm really really looking forward to that.

Speaker 2 (09:28):
Sure.

Speaker 4 (09:30):
So this is one thing I know about my brother
Charlotte Mane that I don't know if the whole world
knows it. But I'm about to do some investigative journalism
right now. I know you believe in aliens. Bro yes, sir,
talk talk to me. Why do you believe? Like what happened?
What's the what's the genesis story of you having a
full belief in the existence of eting them?

Speaker 3 (09:51):
Well, you know, I saw a flying saucer for myself
when I was a kid, you know what I'm saying,
sitting in Monks Corner, South Carolina and my grandmother's y'all,
the same way that they described flying sauces, the same
way you've heard, you know, the Honorable Minister Lewis fay
Cohn described the wheel in the sky, you know, the
same way you've seen it in movies and on TV shows.

Speaker 2 (10:11):
I saw that disc, you know.

Speaker 3 (10:14):
Hovering over the trees and broad daylight and my grandmother's yard,
and I'm like, yo, I'm like, what was that? And
it was there, it was hovering, and then it just
shot off, you know, like like like not like a plane,
but just shot off.

Speaker 2 (10:28):
And so I didn't even realize what it was at
the time.

Speaker 3 (10:31):
But then, you know, when I got older and started
reading about flying sauces.

Speaker 2 (10:34):
And stuff like, oh, I saw one of those when
I was younger.

Speaker 3 (10:37):
But you know, also, man, when I just look at
the planet Earth and I look at all of the
diversity of life on Earth, like you know, you have
things that are in the ocean. You have you know,
birds that are in the sky. You have different species
in the jungle, different species in the woods. You have
different you know, micro organisms all across this planet. Even

(10:57):
us as human beings, we look different for every region
that we go to.

Speaker 2 (11:02):
Why would there.

Speaker 3 (11:03):
Be this fast galaxy full of all of these planets,
billions and billions of planets and we're the only intelligent
life on one.

Speaker 2 (11:12):
That makes no logical sense to me. Noney like like
zero like that.

Speaker 3 (11:17):
That makes no logical sense to me that God would
create all of these different planets, all of these galaxies,
all these universes, and we're the only life on one
of them.

Speaker 1 (11:27):
No, no, well, listen, let's not let's not bury the
lead because it's it's it seems like that could be
a topic that could well be discussed at the podcast festival.
So we'll leave that one right there before we let
you go, do us a favorite give the people the
details on the third annual Black Effect Podcast festival websites, tickets,

(11:48):
ticket prices, you know, you name it.

Speaker 3 (11:50):
If you haven't got your tickets yet, go to Black
Effect dot com Slash Podcast Festival.

Speaker 2 (11:55):
A lot of your favorite podcasts gonna be on that stage.

Speaker 3 (11:57):
I gotta salute my guys to Trap Nerds podcast, you know,
a big podcast for all the gamers and anime fanatics
and you know, superhero movie fanatics.

Speaker 2 (12:06):
You know, that's what they do it for. And you
know they've been there the last couple of years and
they have booths and they play games with the audience.
But you know, now they're actually doing their stage live.
They're doing their show live. Who else is gonna be there?

Speaker 3 (12:18):
Carrie Champion is gonna be there with the Neked podcast,
The Good Mom's Bad Choices podcast is gonna be there,
Funky Fridays with Cam Newton, tanking, j Valentine with R
and B Money, and Sarah Jakes Roberts with the Woman
of All Podcasts and all of the guests that she's
gonna be bringing out.

Speaker 2 (12:33):
You know.

Speaker 3 (12:33):
Plus, we got all the food trucks out there, We
got the Black Effect marketplace with all the merchandise, and
you know, so just go to Black Effect dot Com
Slash Podcast Festival.

Speaker 2 (12:41):
To get your tickets if you haven't already gotten them.

Speaker 3 (12:43):
All of VIP and the meet and greet that's sold
out already, but there's still some general emission left.

Speaker 2 (12:48):
So we'll see you this Saturday at Pullman Yards in Atlanta.

Speaker 1 (12:50):
Man Black Effect, yes, sir, And then I know it's
see the god on on Instagram for people that you
know want to lock in with you personally and hear
more about about them aliens. Like you said, you know,
next year we're going to be there. Say've excited for
be in the building and maybe we can get down
and contribute something to the to the richness of the

(13:11):
experience for everybody attending. But for now, thank you as
always for not just for coming on the show, but
for for doing this and creating sort of a cultural
watering hole for all of these really powerful, really influential voices.
You know, you do such a good job of sharing
you know, your platform and your stage with folks that

(13:32):
that I feel really deserved to be uplifted, and you

the time. We salute you and you always show us love,
so we appreciate your commitment to the culture and if
