Speaker 1 (00:02):
This is the Black Information Network Daily podcast, and I'm
your host, ramses Jah. And sometimes the amount of stories
that make their way to us means that we simply
can't cover everything that comes our way. But from time
to time, a story just stays with me, and Bill
compelled to share it with you and give you my thoughts.
And now one more thing. Okay, I'm gonna share a

(00:26):
bit from USA Today. Kamala Harris poll see the early
attitudes toward her possible bid for California governor. It's long
been rumored that Vice President Kamala Harris is considering running
to be California's next governor, and a recent poll and
survey revealed early insights into how she'd be received. The

(00:47):
former California Attorney General is expected to decide on entering
the race by the end of summer. Political First reported
if Harris chooses to she will have less than a
year give or take a month, depending on when she
officially announces her run to campaign before voters whittled down
the field in the June twenty twenty six California primary election.

(01:08):
Among the candidates who've announced their gubernatorial bids are former
congress Person Katie Porter, Los Angeles Mayor and Assembly Speaker
Antonio Villa Villa Regosa and Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco.
Governor Gavin Newsom is unable to seek reelection due to

(01:30):
term limits. Thirty one percent of California likely voters would
support Harris in the June primary election, according to an
Emerson College polling inside California Politics Slash the Hill survey
published on Thursday, April seventeen. Respondents were given a list
of candidates to choose from, yet thirty nine percent say
at this time they are undecided in who they'd support
in the primary. Quote. Voters are still split on whether

(01:53):
or not Harris should run for governor. Fifty percent say
the former Vice president should not run, and fifty percent
think she should, the survey found. The survey was conducted
from April twelfth and fourteenth, with the sample size of
one thousand registered California voters. However, the sample size for
the primary question featured Harris Harris as a candidate was
slightly smaller, as it only includes those who say they'll

(02:16):
vote in the primary. So you know this one. I
wanted to make sure that we talked about this because
we had a chance the Q and I had a
chance to work with Democrats and and Harris's campaign on

(02:44):
the media side of things, and we got to ask questions.
We got to cover a lot of what it is
that ended up being like her ideas for the country,
and we found that relative to Donald Trump's policies in
his proposed you know, Project twenty twenty five or Agenda

(03:09):
forty seven or whatever, the other thing that he said
he was going around on was that Kamala Harris's campaign
made a little bit more sense for not just for
black people, but for the country. Not only that, we've
thought that she had the right temperament. She had displayed,
you know, the skill and the resolve, and she had

(03:32):
the right pedigree and the right you know background for
the position. So what a travesty it would be for
her to just disappear off into the sunset when she
is so useful and she still has ideas that could work. Now,

(03:54):
there are some people who would rather Kamala Harris, you know,
go the way of Joe Biden's kind of right off
into retirement and never hear from her again. But we
thought it was worth contemplating what the future of this

(04:14):
country could look like if she stepped into this role
that you know, the rumors are swirling around you know her,
you know, accepting or pursuing I should say so, I,
for one, I'll go first. I say that I would

(04:34):
love to see a future where Kamala Harris's voice still matters,
where she's still helping shape policy. California's economy is very
significant in this country. California is very significant just the

(04:55):
amount of people there and her being in a position
to affect change on that level would give her some
grounds to challenge Donald Trumps and the reach of the
federal government, because I know he's trying to expand that

(05:16):
reach for for his purposes, and he'd rather us think
that he's creating a smaller government. But you know, it's
a smaller government, more concentrated in the hands of really him,
and it's a more powerful government. But you know a
lot of folks don't really see it that way because
they choose not to or because it benefits themselves. That's

(05:39):
my thoughts. You know, I'd love to see her, you know,
step into this role. What are you thinking?

Speaker 2 (05:47):
First? To continue on the point that you made, When
he says smaller government, he means literal like in physical
size as him above all exactly what you said. That's
why I'm just following up on that point that you
made already. The government's reach, he wants to be massive
and sweeping, all controlling, determining what you can think, what

(06:09):
you can say, how you can think, what you can read,
the decisions that you make with your body, when you
can conceive, if you can conceive, how Like. He wants
to control everything. So when he says smaller government, he means, hey,
let me control all of it. But the government's reach
will be far more intrusive and sweeping than it's ever
been in our lifetime, according to what he wants. Which

(06:36):
with regards to the question about Vice President Harris running
for governor, I actually don't want her to run for
anything so fast, Okay, Like, while the country is still
in the roller coaster upstart of the turmoil that the
new president is creating, I think she should let things

(06:59):
set before she enters the arena again. Because as much
as people kind of celebrate the other side, you know,
messing around and finding out, one, we have to find
out with them, which is awful. Two it's not like
they're finding out and fully admitting that they made the
wrong decision. Some of them are doubling down and being

(07:23):
more aggressive in their stance that somehow, even when this
guy has the biggest flubs and the biggest, most prolifically
public idiotic mess ups and awful decisions that lead to
awful outcomes for them, they somehow flip it to his
genius chess moves. While the rest of us are playing checkers,

(07:46):
he's playing chess. He's playing chess. I'm sorry. He's the
more intelligent one of all of us. He's got the
whole game figured out, and all of us are just
mindless sheep that don't know how to play. Her entering
the arena right now, and that for any reason losing
would essentially end her political career instead of pausing for

(08:09):
a second to restrategize, replan, refocus, pray that the nation somehow,
I don't want to say, hits bottom, but at least
hits a place where we can all collectively admit, hey,
we might have made the wrong choice here, we might

(08:31):
need to do something different, and then put herself back
on the field at a time like that. And it's
not that I don't think she could win, but I know,
like you know, a lot of the reason why she
lost is because she's a woman and a black woman,
and that did not change in the last few months.

(08:52):
The country showed they're just not prepared for leadership, even
when it's the most qualified candidate for leadership that our
country has ever seen, if that leader is a woman,
and if that leader is a black woman. So I
think it would be exciting to see her back on

(09:12):
the field, back in the game, you know, back in
this environment. But I just don't think her career could
survive another loss if that happened, And I'm not interested
in her being sent off the pasture yet. She has
too much to offer. She's too brilliant, and even though
she's kind of a centrist, she still has some really
really progressive things on her agenda for you know, her

(09:36):
campaign as president. So I wouldn't be I'm not a
person that's going to be like booing from the back
of the room if she runs. You know, she kind
of won a supporter in me during her campaign. I
just don't like the idea of her running again so soon.
While the same people still feel the same way. Maybe

(09:56):
in California she could win, but again, she as a
woman in our country has shown us misogyny and the
patriarchy still exist in the same way that racism does.

Speaker 1 (10:07):
So well, I can appreciate the strategy there because she's she's,
for better or worse, a special person in this country
and in the history of this country. She's somebody worth
talking about, somebody that, in my opinion, had a lot

(10:31):
of potential and never fully had the reins to really shape,
you know, the country or lead the country in the
direction that she felt would work best for all folks overall.
And so yeah, you're right, we don't want to see

(10:51):
her fumble and then lose her forever. But you know,
this is just us talking, and you know, as always,
we open up the floor to you for your thoughts.
