In twenty twelve, sixteen year old Brian Herrera was murdered
in cold blood, shot while walking to a friend's house
to do homework. It happened in broad daylight on a
Saturday morning in Miami, Florida, but no one saw a thing,
or no one would say.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
The call was horrible. I replayed over in my head
all the time.

Speaker 1 (00:20):
It was a high school student that was just going
to do his homework at a friend's house. Despite investigator's efforts,
there were no suspects, no arrests, and in a community
where snitches get stitches, was more than just a saying
the case went cold.

All throughout these years, following back up with the detectives
and they're still working on this and we're working on that.
But there's never been a person of interest. There had
never been anything.

Speaker 3 (00:47):
But Brian's family refused to let his name fade.

I would ask my husband, do you let me just
let this go? He was like, no, keep fighting.

And then nearly a decade later, a call, a lead
and a case that was no longer.

it's a call that we've been waiting for for a
very long time.

Once I went back to really take a look at it,
and this is it's all the fay Man's reading or
I realized, Man, I feel like we got a case.

Here, and those in the community who work to solve
these cases.

They will do whatever it takes on behalf of these
victims to go to court and fight for them, fight
for the voiceless and for the powerless.
