Speaker 1 (00:14):
Hi, Sabrina. Hey, I'm coming to you from a magical
new location today.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Oh yeah, where it's just.
Speaker 1 (00:21):
In my little theater room. I actually there's where we're
doing construction on the house, and the wall they're literally
tearing out is the shared wall with my sound booth.
So if anybody wanted to hear anything, which I'm starting
to learn is very important in podcasting, I had was.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
Not going to be possible.
Speaker 1 (00:38):
Yes, that was not going to be possible. You know
what else is not possible for me? Talking to horses?
Can you talk to horses?
Speaker 2 (00:44):
I cannot. I cannot. I get a little you know,
horses are a lot taller than me.
Speaker 3 (00:52):
There's taller people, most people, but like I'm pretty sure,
like I'm coming up, I feel like right there on
that shoulder line that I.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
Could get drop kicked by a horse real easy. So
how tall are you?
Speaker 1 (01:05):
How tall are you? Actually?
Speaker 3 (01:06):
I'm five foot like okay, like a teeny tiny bit
over five foot tiny, And I know I sound like
my four year old who says she's four and a half.
I'm like five foot in a quarter five foot now
I'm five foot and three quarters.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
I'm almost five.
Speaker 1 (01:20):
One Okay, Well, that's fair.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
But yeah, I mean, you know, it brings a lot
of issues.
Speaker 2 (01:25):
I hate.
Speaker 3 (01:25):
I don't I'm not a big concert goer if I
don't have like a seat because I don't like hanging
out with people and going into large masses of people horses,
same thing.
Speaker 1 (01:34):
Like you.
Speaker 3 (01:35):
I get nervous that I could get hit in the
head really easily.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
But there's so and I love horses. I love horses.
I do. And what about you? Can you talk to horses?
Speaker 1 (01:49):
I can. Oh, they don't answer in any way, shape
or form. They don't understand me, but I do. I
walk up and like, what's that horse? So my wife
is a horse person. My wife and my stepdaughter. My
stepdaughter was a nationally ranked jumper. Wow, so she we
you know, I while I know nothing of the world,
they are very They know a lot about the horse
(02:09):
jumping world and the horse world and all that kind
of stuff. So yeah, this this movie is another one
that my wife watched with me because she is a
big horse person. And I'm glad she did. I'm glad
you're speaking of that. We might as well just get
into it. Then we should start by saying, welcome back
to Magical rewind the show that makes you want to
bring your friends, your PJS and your popcorn and go
back to a time and all the houses are smart,
(02:31):
the waves, tsunamis and Joey Lawrence looks fabulous in a
tank top.
Speaker 3 (02:34):
I'm Wilfred All and I'm Sabrina Brian Pudi Cowboy.
Speaker 1 (02:38):
This week we're traveling to Montana and turning this city
boy into a real life rancher because we're talking about
the nineteen ninety nine dramedy, Yes, it's a dcom, Horse Sense.
It made its Disney debut on November twentieth, nineteen ninety nine,
and had a very successful debut, actually roping in See
What I Did There, Sprita, roping in I Thank You
three point two million viewers and winning its time slot
(02:59):
for the night. It also set a record for the
most household watching a Disney Channel program at the time.
So all pretty good for horse Sense. Yes, though it
didn't get really great reviews at the time of its release,
it seemed to flourish later in life. In twenty twelve,
Horse Sense made that illustrious Complex List We've talked about
a bunch of times at number twenty two for the
best of the twenty five dcoms of all Time, and
(03:21):
Collider placed it at number seventy one on their top
ninety nine. So it is a grower, not a shower,
apparently to rhyme things, you're like, oh okay, just get
on with it. Will also worth noting it was successful
enough to spawn a sequel, which we will I'm sure
cover at some point. It's called Jumping Ship and it
(03:41):
came out in two thousand and one, two years later,
so write it down now. It'll be a future trip
to seqel Town. That's right. So we just talked about
this a little bit. Do you like cor I mean
you said you like horses. Do you like riding?
Speaker 2 (03:53):
I haven't done a lot of riding.
Speaker 3 (03:56):
I've done those those typical you know, vacation that you
don't get to really even gallop of any sort.
Speaker 2 (04:04):
So I don't know how to do that.
Speaker 3 (04:06):
My aunt did have horses at one point, but I
was really little at the time when she had them.
So I rode on the back of my cousin, right Like,
who was actually like, you know, steering and actually doing it.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
I was just holding on for dear life.
Speaker 4 (04:21):
Wait, you rode on the back of your cousin like that,
like your cousin was the horse.
Speaker 3 (04:28):
No, Jensen, I rode behind her on the horse, being
on as she I don't know how the horse. I
don't even know how to say that I have done it.
I have rode like the worst was in the Caribbean.
We did do it was really awesome, but these horses,
(04:50):
it was like, Okay, I'm not sure I'll ever do
this again because they were not treated well. And I
just started the whole time. I was just like crying
because I just felt so bad for this poor little
horse that was all of them. And then we rode,
we rode through the water, and then they started pooping,
and I was like with my legs in the air.
Speaker 1 (05:11):
This is a much different horse experience than most people have.
I would think, yeah, but it's better than riding your crossing,
but it is.
Speaker 2 (05:19):
I hate you guys, so anyway, I it was.
Speaker 3 (05:22):
I do love horses though, I think they're so beautiful
and I love they're just magical.
Speaker 1 (05:27):
I feel the same way, and I've done it. I
think I have about the same horse experience as you do.
It's like you go to places where the horses know
what to do, so you hop on their back. And
they know when to run and when to gallop, like
you know, around the Hollywood Sign and stuff like that.
Speaker 2 (05:40):
Other than that, I have to do it around the
Hollywood Sign.
Speaker 1 (05:43):
That well, there was back in the day you'd ride
to like a you'd get on a horse, you'd ride
to the Hollywood Sign and then you'd go down and
you'd end it like this.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
Bar oh wow.
Speaker 1 (05:51):
So yeah it was. It was a cool little ride.
You could see the Hollywood Sign all the kind of stuff.
It was neat it was. But yeah, I have no
horse sense.
Speaker 2 (05:58):
Oh and he brings it right back around, right around,
thank you.
Speaker 1 (06:02):
Okay, So we might know your history with horses, but
how about your horse sense? Like, did you know this
movie existed before it came to our podcast assignment?
Speaker 3 (06:11):
I mean, we've talked about doing this movie for quite
a while, so I sort of feel like it but
not before it became in this like world of us
here at Magical rewind.
Speaker 1 (06:21):
No, I feel exactly I knew about it because I
knew about the Lawrence Boys obviously, Yes, and nineteen ninety
nine Maddie and I were not only doing Boy Met World,
but I think ninety nine is when we did h
double hockey sticks or ninety eight. So this was all
kind of right in the zeitgeis. So of course I
knew they were doing something. I'm not try I.
Speaker 2 (06:39):
Mean knew what it was.
Speaker 3 (06:40):
It does it? It doesn't like it's a complete hello.
Of course that there would be a d coom with
the Lawrence brothers.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
But first of all, we can get into that later.
But there should have been a bunch with the Lawrence
brothers two, but there should have been fifteen decoms with
the boys.
Speaker 2 (06:56):
Yes, they're perfect percent agreed.
Speaker 3 (06:59):
There's is not a better Amigos Trios that could be
fit for thank Disney Channel.
Speaker 1 (07:06):
Built for the Disney Channel. All right, Well, we've still
got a huge pile of manure to move, so let's
jump into our synopsis. A spoiled Los Angeles teen is
sent to spend time on his cousins struggling Montana ranch
as punishment for selfish behavior. There he learns responsibility, the
value of hard work, and the importance of family. Sabrina
Ben in Montana.
Speaker 3 (07:27):
Yes, I have toured through there, so I've probably been
to a Walmart in Montana that I can remember, say,
sports me for a little moll, But I haven't gotten
a chance to do like the ranch experience in Montana,
and that is something that is absolutely on my list
of wanting to do.
Speaker 1 (07:45):
One hundred percent agree with you, Montana's one. I think
I've done forty six to forty eight states I can't remember,
but Montana is one of the ones I haven't been
to yet. Must before you to do Montana. We'll have
to you know what. We'll do a family, family ranch thing.
We'll figure it out.
Speaker 2 (07:59):
Yes, be so fun.
Speaker 1 (08:01):
Love to Okay. Now, although this is set in Montana,
it was filmed primarily in Los Angeles and on location
in Utah. Yes, we've got a real Buffalo dream situation
going on here. But I think everything passed pretty well.
What do you think I did?
Speaker 3 (08:16):
I thought it looked great. I did feel the Buffalo
Dreams vibe though. It was kind of like it makes
sense knowing that you can kind of pull that across
using the landscape of Utah, not Salt Lake City, but
the landscape.
Speaker 1 (08:31):
And it worked like a charm. It did. This movie
was directed by a name that we worship here at
Magical Rewind and no it's not the one you might think.
It's Greg Beeman. Now, if you don't recognize his name,
you'll know him for the reigning champion dcom. He directed
Miracle and Lane two, which is currently the film with
the highest score on our podcast. He began his career
with two Magical World of Disney Films. That's right, Magical
(08:53):
World of Disney Films, not Wonderful World of Disney. The
Richest Cat in the World. Oh my god, can we
watch that, perple?
Speaker 2 (08:59):
I need to see that.
Speaker 1 (09:00):
I just by the title. I need to know what
is going on. We need to sit out soon. And
Little Spies, which I'm curious are they really tiny little
spies or are they only doing a little bit of spying?
I'd like to know. But would later make movies like
License to Drive, Mom and Dad, Saved the World and
Problem Child three. But it's yeah, right, But it's his
impressive dcom lineup that we care about. He did the
(09:22):
first dcom ever, under Wraps, then Brink, The Ultimate Christmas Present,
and Miracle in Lane two. He also directed TV shows
like Heroes, Lucifer, Smallville, and Jag. He is a real
stealth pick for Best Director. When we do our eventual
award show, which we're going to do, it's gonna be
hard to beat Paul Hoen, but hey, it could happen.
Some great names on that list, some great incredible films
(09:44):
on that list, So yes, there is a possibility that
could happen. And we've got some absolute nineties legends starring
in this thing, some guys that I happen to know
very well. We've got Joey Lawrence, who plays Michael Woods.
Joey became a household name from nineteen ninety to ninety
five as brother Joey ru So on Blossom Whoa. He
was a massive teen heart throb, even releasing albums and
(10:04):
super Hot Guy calendars. But before all that, as a
young kid, he'd appeared in movies like Summer Rental and
Oliver and Company, and as far as TV he was
a star of Gimme a Break, Brotherly Love alongside his
actual brothers, and the long running Melissa and Joey opposite
my pal Melissa Jonehart. Joey's been doing it since he
was like five years old. When you talk about child actors,
he's one of the ogs. He was one of the
(10:26):
guys that every kid actor looked up to and wanted
to be. When you were five or six years old,
you watched because we're exactly the same age. Joey and I.
We literally funny story and we'll talk about this because
spoiler alert, he's going to be on our park Opper
episode where we're gonna get a chance to talk to him.
But Joey and I took our SATs together.
Speaker 2 (10:42):
Isn't that wow?
Speaker 1 (10:43):
Strange Hollywood coincidence. But yeah, he was doing it. He
was through with it before the rest of us knew
what to do with it. As they would say, that
is Joey and he is joined by his very own
brother here again and another magical rewind favorite and past guest,
Andy Lawrence, as Tommy, Briggs and Whiles are still fresh
in our mind. Let's acknowledge that Andy is already a
shoe and nominee for Best Actor for going to the
(11:05):
mat Am I right, I mean, yes, one of the
best we saw.
Speaker 2 (11:08):
It's a toss up.
Speaker 3 (11:09):
We might have to have an award for Best Lawrence
And it's a toss up.
Speaker 1 (11:13):
You can't. How do you do that? How do you
judge between the Lawrence boys?
Speaker 2 (11:17):
You can't.
Speaker 1 (11:17):
By the way, all of them amazingly nice people.
Speaker 3 (11:20):
Seriously, I honestly, they all have so many different amazing attributes.
Speaker 2 (11:24):
I don't know how you could choose.
Speaker 1 (11:26):
You don't if they if they never acted again and
the three of them just sat down and sang together,
you'd be like, oh my god, that's the best thing
I've ever seen. But they can also act, they write,
they direct. It's annoying. Save something for the.
Speaker 2 (11:34):
Rest of us.
Speaker 1 (11:36):
Andy also appeared on Blossom, Hawaii five Oh, United States
of Tara, and was famously the voice of TJ on Recess.
He also appeared in movies like White Man's Burden, Mister Bean,
and Jack Frost. We love Andy and you can check
out his magical rewind interview right on our dedicated feed.
He's one of our faves. Worth noting their third brother
and arguably worst brother, Matthew, a former co star of
(11:57):
mine on Boy Meets World, does appear in the film
uncredited as a cowboy at the airport, and he is
one of the stars so the sequel. His cameo really
is an East Rag and there's a bunch of East
dregs in this movie we'll get to for fans of
the family. By the way, he's not the worst Lawrence.
He's just the one I'm closest with so I'll get.
Speaker 2 (12:12):
To read them a little bit.
Speaker 1 (12:13):
But so, I mean, I don't even really think I
have to ask this from the conversation we just had.
But Lawrence Boys, Disney Hall of Fame, Yeah, your name,
oh yeah, first ballad.
Speaker 3 (12:24):
Well again, to restate it, what's a shame is it's
not from d COM's. It's from everything they've done, you know,
within the Disney franchise.
Speaker 2 (12:32):
I mean, it's not just a dcom thing.
Speaker 3 (12:34):
It's literally I just feel like there was a time
where they owned the Disney Channel or you know, ABC, Yeah,
and ever.
Speaker 1 (12:42):
There was you talk about young child actors and how
they can have attitudes, and also it was if there's
ever three people that deserve to have attitudes because they
were doing it all the time, it was the Lawrence Boys,
and never did. They were completely down to earth, loved
their fans, great guys all the way around.
Speaker 2 (12:58):
Always had a huge, huge following too.
Speaker 1 (13:00):
Yeah, I mean, but they respected their following, which is
really really cool. We've got Susan Walters as Jules Big.
She's best known as Diane Jenkins Abbot on almost five
hundred episodes of the Young and the Wrestlers. Five hundred
episodes yes, folks, she was on that show for almost
three months. I'm kidding, get what I did there, because
it's five hundred ppersents. I'm joking. It was a twenty
(13:22):
year period, but she also appeared on The Flash, MTV's
Teen Wolf, The Vampire Diaries, and Seinfeld. She played Malva.
But most importantly, she's in the Albert Brooks movie Defending
Your Live Shit a small part. She played Albert Brooks's
wife when he was still alive Best movie of All
Time and character actor mc gainey is Twister. EMC is
a very recognizable face and has been in movies like
(13:43):
con Air, Mighty Ducks, and Breakdown, but has been in
so many TV shows, most notably Happy Days, Cheers, and Lost,
where he played one of the creepy others, Tom Friendly.
Oh God, you know you're not gonna get anyway with
anything with that name. Another soap opera legend is in
this movie Leanne Hunt as jac She's been in and
out of Days of Our Lives for the past wait
(14:04):
for this fifty years only Cow fifty years, even reappearing
in upcoming episodes as recently as this year.
Speaker 2 (14:16):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (14:16):
Robin Thomas is her husband. Glen I recognize him most
as the vice principal in nineteen eighty seven Summer School.
Producer Jensen and I have talked about this movie ad nauseum.
But he has almost one hundred and fifty credits to
his name, including Crazy Ex Girlfriend, Fuller House, The Mommies,
and the recent Murder one oh one TV movie franchise.
And finally, Steve Reeves is Mule, another recognizable face. He's
(14:38):
best known for his Roland Fargo. Oh, he was so good.
He had I think four words in the entire movie
and was just so good. But he also appeared in
Adam Sandler's The Longest Yard, Twins Dances with Wolves, and
he's the Native American man in the desert in the
Doors movie, which is just a really awesome credit. Wow,
And the movie runs ninety two minutes, so close there
(15:06):
are more Lawrence brothers in this movie than there are
minutes over ninety. So yes, it's two minutes above target.
So that sucks. Get your life together, horse Sense. Speaking
of horse Sense, I have to ask, what did you
think of the title. It's it's kind of a random
title that I thought was gonna maybe reference it. I'm
still not one hundred percent I don't know how does
it tie in? Am I missing something? I might?
Speaker 3 (15:26):
No, I mean, honestly, it's just kind of at the
very end, there's two different scenes that you're going, oh, okay,
there it is.
Speaker 2 (15:36):
And it's not that they're they're not meaningful scenes.
Speaker 3 (15:39):
It's just not a it's not a like part of
the storyline throughout the whole story.
Speaker 1 (15:44):
It's not it's like a horse whisperer where it's like
you see him like touching the animal in a certain way.
Speaker 3 (15:50):
Yeah, it doesn't happen over and over and over again.
It literally has like two moments that it makes sense.
So the whole time, I mean horse in general made sense.
Like you know, you're kind of just for me, I'm
one of those people like you're starting to kind of
am I missing something? Like now you're like trying to
like search for it, like you're like, where is it?
Speaker 1 (16:10):
Where's the reason?
Speaker 2 (16:11):
Where's what? You know?
Speaker 3 (16:12):
So that's the only thing, Like I feel like with
the title, it's not that it didn't make sense at all,
like you had to horses, and it did for a
few moments.
Speaker 2 (16:20):
It's just to name the whole movie off of that those.
Speaker 1 (16:23):
I expected it to go somewhere else with it, but
me too. We'll get into that too. How about some
other suggestions, dude, Ranch Hand, Montana Summer, how about in
the Saddle?
Speaker 2 (16:33):
Yeah, yeah, I mean.
Speaker 1 (16:36):
I feel like I have. I feel like I'm not
telling you in any of those.
Speaker 3 (16:38):
Really, I don't think they're like to me. This storyline
has been is is so broad and is something we've
seen it. You've seen a bunch that it kind of
like any of those titles would have been.
Speaker 1 (16:51):
It works. Hey, sometimes they the same movie as different titles.
Gleaming the Cube was also at one point called like
not without My Brother or something like that. So you
just never know, Yeah, it'll always be clean.
Speaker 2 (17:01):
Well what do you always say? Lemon lemonade Mouth was
a different version.
Speaker 1 (17:04):
Of yeah of band slam. Yeah yeah, So there you go.
Speaker 2 (17:09):
So it's like, you know, it could be any anything.
Speaker 1 (17:11):
It could be anything.
Speaker 2 (17:12):
As long as it had something to do with the country.
Speaker 1 (17:14):
Then you're good. Well either way. The writers, of course,
sense are Chad Hayes and Carrie Hayes, twin brothers. That's
very cool, the right, you're such a twin fan. They
are a writing team that started their career on shows
like bay Watch, Knights and beast Master. I never saw
the show beasts Master, but the movie they Watch Nights,
Oh my god, bay Watch Nights. They took regular Baywatch
(17:35):
and then tried to make it even more risky. So
it's like Baywatch Knights.
Speaker 2 (17:39):
Yeah, more risky.
Speaker 1 (17:41):
Oh yeah, they called it everything, but the nip like
it was. It was yeah, bay Watch Nights.
Speaker 2 (17:48):
Oh no, oh yeah, I definitely can't watch that. I'll
be so no.
Speaker 1 (17:51):
It's oh no, it's supposed to make you uncomfortable. But
if you want to see a great movie, watch beast Master.
Great movie.
Speaker 2 (17:55):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (17:56):
They would also write this movie sequel, Jumping Ship, but
to my surprise, they've say went on to have quite
a career in horror. They wrote the underrated House of
Wax remake in two thousand and five, which then turned
into getting them a gig on a little movie called
The Conjuring, which has since become a massive genre franchise.
You'd love to see that. Okay, guys, let's put this
grass in a grinder and turn horse sense into a smoothie.
(18:18):
It's time for the recap. We open on a farm
with a ton of cows and a glorious breakfast being prepared.
If the movie ended right, there'd be the greatest decommon history, Eggs, bacon, pancakes,
sausage and peppers. And we're back to the dcom tour
of a bedroom to learn about our main character. And honestly,
I'll be honest with you, I missed it. I kind
of missed it.
Speaker 3 (18:36):
I literally put in my head, oh my gosh, should
we just start a movie without being in a bedroom
for a tcon?
Speaker 2 (18:42):
And then I went, oh, no, we did it.
Speaker 1 (18:45):
Hey there. We only ready to make the bedroom trope
even better is by starting with a wonderful breakfast. Oh
I love that. We see a cowboy hat, a frame
photo of a boy and his dad and young Tommy
whittling Wood next to his dog. His mom yells out,
breakfast is ready. He has to hustle. He does want
a Missus plane. He makes a whistle for his cousin Michael.
He really liked the one he made for his family reunion.
(19:05):
He throws on his cowboy hat and rushes downstairs. He's
not sure he should go on in this trip to California.
He doesn't want to leave his mom alone and worries
that they don't have enough money. Oh, setting something up,
but his mom says not to worry about it. She
can manage for four days without him, she promises. Now
they're on the way to the airport. Tommy wonders what
it's going to be like in Beverly Hills. It seems
a little different than Montana. Then we cut over to
(19:25):
see just how different it is. Cousin Michael, in silk pajamas,
is just waking up at twelve fifteen. His spacious room
is filled with a fish tank, stained glass, and a
set of dumbbells. In the kitchen, it's not the down
home Bontana breakfast we just saw. It's grass wheat grass technically,
but it's grass being stuffed into a juicer by the
maid Arlene. Michael enters with a sweater tied around his
(19:48):
shoulders like some prepping ned chad. He downs the blended
concoction and rejects an offer of waffles and eggs. He's
watching his body fat percentage. Michael's mom, Jace, enters the
kitchen and reminds him to go pick up Tommy today,
but he says he can't. He's got a date with Gina.
Her dad's a big movie director who made lethal force
Tornado and Tornado two. This time's personal, of course I
added that part. But jac also has stuff to do
(20:10):
for a fundraiser in Palm Springs, so she can't help out.
And since Little Tommy's father died, he's had a hard time.
Dead dad alert. Everybody a dcom favorite now a dead
dad alert. What do we always say? They can the
parent can be dead, They can't be divorced. Yeah, we
are now at Michael's Okay, Okay, is he in high school?
Speaker 2 (20:32):
He's in college?
Speaker 1 (20:33):
Right? Because they say he's twenty, Yes, he's so this
has got to be he's in. I think this is
a college course that he's I mean.
Speaker 2 (20:40):
The campus was obviously a college kid.
Speaker 1 (20:43):
That's how I look at it too. Okay, so we're
gonna say Michael's now in college. He could have been
in high school, but I think he if he.
Speaker 3 (20:48):
As a twenty one year old in high school, there
is nothing more than a super super senior, that's insane.
Speaker 1 (20:54):
Well, he's twenty and he was getting a D plus,
so it's not like he's an amazing student. No, I
think you're right. I think it's college too.
Speaker 3 (20:59):
I thought I thought so too, especially with like what
they were they were learning about, like the market.
Speaker 1 (21:05):
And they all looked older and everything.
Speaker 2 (21:06):
Yeah, she looked older that everyone looked.
Speaker 1 (21:09):
Agree in college, Yeah, I agree, I agree. Okay, So
the test grades are being passed back on the last
day of the school year. He's seated next to Gina
and she's talking about how her dad is wrapping a
movie and really wants to meet her new boyfriend. Michael
hopes they end up in the Riviera at the same time,
but it depends on when Gina's dad starts his next movie.
Their teacher notices the couple chatting and lets them know
that they've talked too much and didn't pay enough attention
to the school subjects real estate development, land trust, and
(21:31):
property deeds. You know, even college, it seems like a
weird thing to be studying.
Speaker 3 (21:35):
But anyway it does because that's like, I don't my
parents are real estate agents and that was not ever
something they learned in college.
Speaker 2 (21:44):
They have to go to.
Speaker 3 (21:44):
Write a special special schooling for that.
Speaker 1 (21:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (21:47):
Yeah, but it was like, you know, okay, I shouldn't.
I need to. I need to keep this in mind.
This is gonna happen, this is.
Speaker 1 (21:53):
Going to mean something exactly. Michael then looks at his
test score. He got a D. Not so good. Now
out in the quad, Gina gives him a two week
anniversary present, the famous two week anniversary present. It's a
new watch and he loves it, but when trying it on,
he realizes he's thirty minutes late to pick up Tommy.
He races off to the airport, eventually picking up Tommy
in his convertible Porsche sports car. He blames LA traffic
(22:15):
for being late. That's a typical excuse everyone uses, and
Tommy is a sweete pie who just isn't angry at all.
Summer vacation is official begun, and Michael is genuinely happy
to see his cousin. Tommy's about to present him with
the whistle, but the carphone rings. It's Gina, so Tommy
bashfully hides the whistle. Gina announces that her family will
in fact be in the south of France at the
same time. After all, her phone drops out, and Tommy
(22:37):
sees another opening for his whistle, but Gina calls right
back before he can hand it off. We find out
that Michael is manipulating some transfer program to travel to
France and will drop out once he gets there even
though he needs the school credits okay, and when she
asks if they're hanging out for their anniversary, he says yes,
leaving Tommy feeling neglected already and stuck with this goddamn whistle.
(22:59):
They make it to Michael's family mansion and Tommy notes
it's bigger than his school. It's dinner time in Michael's
mom wishes her sister Jules could have made the trip
to and we find out that Disneyland is a top
Tommy's wishless for the week, like so many kids that
come to Beverly Hills, so Michael plans to take him
Monday because he says the weekend is going to be
way too crowded. Good point, that's absolutely true. Glenn, Michael's
(23:20):
dad and Tommy's uncle, is going to be with his
wife in Palm Springs for the fundraiser, so they'll be
alone in the house for a few days. Tommy's shown
to his guest room. It's actually the home theater. It
has a popcorn machine, candy in every movie you can
possibly dream of. Tommy wants Michael to pick a movie
to watch because he's going over to Gina's to give
her a necklace he got her. He promises it'll only
be five minutes. Now. I don't know if it was
(23:40):
in this scene, but or the next scene where he
starts with two movies, but the bottom movie Missus Doubt Flyer, No,
Missus Doubt Fire with matt.
Speaker 2 (23:48):
Lawrence with Matthew Lawrence.
Speaker 1 (23:50):
And now brink was on the screen when he turns
on the thing. I was like, yeah, and there's brink.
So we're getting Eastern kind of little easter eggs all
over the place, which is left it very fun. The
next morning, Arlene is happy to make Tommy a traditional
Montana breakfast, none of that grass smoothie. He promises he's
gonna make a breakfast soon, just as Michael storms in.
He's got to leave to run errand, so Tommy invites
(24:11):
himself to go along. Michael thinks Tommy would have more
fun at home. Tommy says he wants to go to
adventure Land later because his friend Mule went there once
and said it was a blast. Can we please add
Mule to the list of good decom names? Can we
love it? I love it? Mule's up there. It's it's
no what is it? Johnny Jaguar why can I think
(24:32):
of his name from.
Speaker 3 (24:34):
Jackal Johnson Jackals, not jack Jock, but Johnson. It's a
little bit better because it's just one crazy name, Mule Mule.
Speaker 1 (24:44):
I love it. Yes, no, it's it is officially on
the list. Michael promises him they'll do whatever he wants,
and leaves without drinking a smoothie at all. Doesn't touch it,
doesn't put it to his lips, just grabs it. It's
orange in some way, and just puts it right down. Later,
Tommy outside alone, kicking around a sode kerball and hitting
tennis balls by himself in what has to be the
saddest montage in the history of any dcom and we
(25:06):
get kind of another little montage of the next few days.
Tommy's watching a ton of movies, last swing a statue
in the front yard, cooking breakfast for Arlean as he promised,
then teaching her how to wrangle. He's never even seen
Michael again, or if he does, he's on the phone
with Gina. He's in his bedroom. He's just not paying
attention to him at all. Arlene has now officially seen enough.
The next morning, she decides to shame Michael for ignoring
(25:27):
his cousin, Michael says he's taking him to Disneyland next week,
but in reality, Tommy leaves tomorrow. Michael can't believe it.
He apparently doesn't know how time works at all, even
with that fancy new watch. Tommy enters the kitchen, clearly pissed.
When Michael asked if he's ready to go to Disneyland.
Tommy make sure he actually wants to go and won't
bail on him. Michael promises he won't. So after Disneyland
(25:48):
they're going to go to Nights of the Round Table. Huh,
which is the name they use? So Medieval Times won't
sue them? Timmy is so and I never get that.
Why wouldn't you want like Medieval Times? You'd want the
name of your company in a big movie? Would you know?
Speaker 3 (26:03):
It is the same thing. It's the same way on
the channel. How we probably every you know, every network.
How you have to like put something over a Nike Yeah, you.
Speaker 1 (26:11):
Get it's called greeking it out. You have to greek
out the logo. Yes, it's very strange. We would always
change the products on our on the set of Boy
Meets World, so it's like we'd get Captain cunch. Oh,
and if they did st Waffel crisp instead of waffle,
could they cover out one part? So it was just
it was va It was a vaffle crisp. You do
things like that. Oak. We drank a lot of oak,
(26:34):
just the way it was. Yes, Tommy is so excited
and Arlene seems happy as well, so they decide to
leave right now. On the way there, Michael apologizes for
how fast the week has gone by. He planned on
doing way more with Tommy and he's going to do
more with him today. But then, oh, what happens? Gina
calls her Daddy got back this morning and wants to
know when he can finally meet Michael. At first, Michael
says he can't, but eventually agrees that he'll only stay
(26:56):
for like a minute or two, and again the disappointment
is visible on Tommy's face. As a result, Michael drops
Tommy off at Kiddie Zone, a play place with loud
music and screaming babies. He promises he'll be back soon
and fun little dcom Easter Egg here Yet again, the
kids are watching Prink on the TV. Same director Greg Beaman.
He's shown his movies all over the place, I love it.
Speaker 3 (27:16):
I love it too, And I'm sure when people were
watching this they're.
Speaker 2 (27:20):
Like, hey, I know that one. That's you know, I
watch a brink so fun.
Speaker 1 (27:23):
We cut to a horse track where now Michael, Gina,
and her dad are cheering on a thoroughbred. Michael has
been picking winners and Gina's dad wants to know his secret,
which again I thought was a whole different movie. This
guy apparently went to four horse races and won four times.
How is this not a bigger story than they're making
it out to be. He's some kind of how is
it not called the yeah, the the gambling sense or whatever.
(27:43):
This guy could have been a jigillionaire.
Speaker 2 (27:45):
Some people just have that. It's so strange.
Speaker 1 (27:48):
No one can pick horse winners. I don't believe it's
all it's all guessing.
Speaker 2 (27:52):
Yes, that's what I mean.
Speaker 1 (27:54):
Like does he pick Michael could really just be like
I can pick winners.
Speaker 3 (27:57):
No, Like it's just like you just kind of like
for whatever he's in that luck of just like yeah,
for no reason at all, you're just like.
Speaker 2 (28:04):
Eating Meanie Miny.
Speaker 3 (28:05):
Moe Monroe just learned how to do that, and you're
just like eating Meani Miney mo that one and then
they win.
Speaker 2 (28:11):
That happens so crazy.
Speaker 3 (28:15):
It does.
Speaker 1 (28:16):
Well, that's Joey Lawrence's character is a lucky horse picker.
I don't even know what they're called the horses exactly.
So everything's going great, but Michael knows he has to
run and pick up Tommy, but Gina's dad says he
can't leave before the next race. He needs to pick
him another winner, which again, I wouldn't let him leave either.
Gina also begs him to stay, so he does, eventually
sprinting to his car and crashing into an old lady's
(28:37):
vehicle on his way out, and they exchange info very
very quickly. When he does finally get back to play place,
he can't find Tommy anywhere. He panics, climbing through the
obstacles looking for his cousin, screaming his name, and fighting
off little rugrats. He eventually finds out that Tommy called
Arlene to pick him up because he was worried something
might have happened to Michael. Oh. When Michael does get
back to the house, Tommy's watching TV. Michael tries to
(28:59):
guilt him about leaving the playplace, but Tommy calls his
cousin selfish and says he can't wait to go home tomorrow.
Nobody is going to gaslight a farm kid. It's like, no, no, no,
we don't mess around here, buddy. That's just the way
it works. Michael apologizes and blames the Lucky Horse streak,
but Tommy calls horse racing animal abuse.
Speaker 2 (29:18):
It is.
Speaker 1 (29:19):
Michael's parents get home from Palm Springs and ask how
Disneyland was. Tommy covers from Michael, saying it was exactly
how he expected it to be, but he's tired and
needs to go pack. Michael also lies and tells his
dad the damage on his car was from a hit
and run. The next morning, Tommy is ready to fly home.
He takes one last look at the whistle he never
had a chance to give to Michael and returns it
(29:39):
to his bag. Tommy tells his aunt if Michael ever
makes it out to the ranch, he'd like to return
the favor of hospitality. We catch the sarcasm, but she doesn't,
and just like that, Tommy returns to Montana. That night,
in Beverly Hills, Michael joins his parents for dinner and
something is definitely off. His mom got a call from
her sister. They now know he didn't spend any time
(30:00):
Tommy during the trip. They ask about Kiddy's own and
horse racing and why he's always sleeping or out with Gina.
And that's when the doorbell rings, and I was like, Okay,
this can't be good. You're supposed to live in Beverly Hills,
nobody rings your doorbell, so it's not going to be
a good thing. It's two police officers. They're looking for
Michael about a car accident. He gave the woman false
information and took off, And I was like, why you've
(30:23):
got insurance, You've got everything. Why why give false information?
Why lie about it? Oh?
Speaker 3 (30:28):
I didn't feel like he did it on purpose. I
literally think I've just felt like he like just.
Speaker 2 (30:33):
Gave her the wrong information.
Speaker 3 (30:34):
However, when he was doing it, he was doing it
off of memory, and I'm like, I could never give
my insurance card number.
Speaker 1 (30:40):
No nobody knows that.
Speaker 3 (30:42):
Like that was like, what but no, I'm so sorry,
surpose huh. Oh, I thought he just like like tried
to do it and then gave her the wrong information.
Speaker 2 (30:53):
Take care what it was.
Speaker 1 (30:54):
I thought he kind of because he never says when
he's getting yelled at like, I thought I gave her
all my information. I didn't try to run away.
Speaker 2 (31:00):
Hey, yeah he did.
Speaker 1 (31:01):
No, Does he say I I screwed up and gave
her the wrong information?
Speaker 3 (31:05):
Yes, he said I gave I didn't realize I gave
her the wrong information.
Speaker 1 (31:08):
So then I miss I missed that part. I didn't.
I didn't see that. Oh, okay, got more. Then there
you go.
Speaker 3 (31:12):
Yeah, because there's just no way someone He's like he
was thinking he could give her the wrong information and
she wasn't gonna like report it.
Speaker 1 (31:20):
Oh see, I thought he was gonna, oh, here's my
information by and he bounced like this old lady's never
gonna be able to find me.
Speaker 2 (31:27):
I didn't know.
Speaker 1 (31:27):
He mentions it later, saying, I guess I gave her
the wrong information.
Speaker 2 (31:30):
We've got it.
Speaker 3 (31:31):
We're gonna have to ask him what was the real
backstory of Yes, I love that.
Speaker 1 (31:36):
We're gonna figure it out. What's the backstory? By the way,
my favorite thing in the world in this movie, and
it's such an inside baseball thing for anyone who knows them,
but the Lawrence brothers call everybody buddy, hey, buddy, And
then they called each other throughout the entire movie. I
was like, Oh, it's so true to life. Yes, hey, buddy.
Once the cops leave, Michael's mom and dad are obviously furious.
(31:57):
They don't know what's gotten into him. He swears, he oh,
there you go. He swears he accidentally messed up his information.
I guess I just missed that part. But his parents
aren't sure of that, especially because he also lied to
them and called it a hit and run, which technically
it was, but yeah, I get it, and as punishment,
the European Study tour is now in limbo. Michael says
he's going to call Tommy to profusely apologize and take
(32:18):
money from his trust fund to fix the Porsche. He'll
also fly Tommy back out and treat him right. But
his dad isn't impressed. His trust fund wasn't made for that.
He's twenty years old and it's time to grow up.
They decided he's going to spend some time on his
aunt's ranch and work there for a month for free.
Michael can't believe what he's hearing, but his parents hope
he'll learn something about hard work and responsibility, and if
they hear any negative reports from Jewels or Tommy while
(32:39):
he's in Montana. The European trip is off. This was
a great scene, good acting, good writing, way to get
us into a great way to get us into the movie.
But also parents that are holding their kids accountable for
what they did in a dcom.
Speaker 3 (32:55):
And they also set it up to where this is
although they have a lot of money, you do get
the the information that they aren't old money. They've earned
their money, so it they're really making sure that they understand,
like their kid understands the idea of working hard and
earning your you know, earning dollar, the.
Speaker 2 (33:19):
Value of a dollar. And I love that. I always
love those me too.
Speaker 1 (33:23):
I thought this was it was. I thought this was
another movie where all of the adults were great.
Speaker 2 (33:29):
Yes, well they were. It was mainly adults in this movie.
Speaker 1 (33:32):
Yeah, yeah, they were the first time in a.
Speaker 2 (33:34):
Long time a movie we're watching with mainly adults.
Speaker 1 (33:37):
Yeah other than Andy, yeah, everybody, he's the only kid.
Everybody else are adults and they were really really good
in this movie. Yes, and so Michael lands in Montana
now sporting some flashy expensive western gear but clearly a
city slicker. After playing round Stone Cow. I was like, wow,
(34:02):
look at that boots. Oh, it was, but kind of
a perfect Beverly Hills like this is obviously what cowboys
look like.
Speaker 2 (34:11):
It was perfect.
Speaker 1 (34:13):
It was perfect, It really was. Right off the plane,
he bumps into a more realistic cowboy played by his
very hunky brother, Matt, Sabrina, did you immediately know it
was Matt? Yes?
Speaker 2 (34:22):
And he looks so cute? And I went, wait, I
didn't think Matt was in This is Matt in this movie?
Is this a cameo? What is going on right now?
Speaker 1 (34:28):
Just a cameo?
Speaker 2 (34:29):
And it threw me a little bit.
Speaker 1 (34:30):
Cute boy cameo? Come on, let's oh.
Speaker 2 (34:32):
He's Oh yeah, for sure. He looked great.
Speaker 1 (34:35):
Would he be on your wall? Would map be one
of the guys on your wall? No, God, We're never
gonna find a guy for your wall. You're gonna end
up with a guyless wall. Sabrina, I know, I know.
Is Joey.
Speaker 2 (34:49):
H probably?
Speaker 1 (34:51):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (34:51):
Okay, awesome, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (34:53):
Okay, there's a long haired Joey.
Speaker 2 (34:56):
Yeah, I guess. I just he was just so funny
and just so dreamy.
Speaker 1 (35:00):
Like okay, hey, I'm I was.
Speaker 3 (35:04):
Really little during Blossom though, right, and that's okay, Just like.
Speaker 1 (35:08):
Anyone I see you in just this, this horrible white
room with nothing on your walls. So now at least
there's a Joey.
Speaker 2 (35:13):
Lawrence dance pictures and things like that.
Speaker 1 (35:17):
Well and a Joey We're putting joy lawns up there.
It's just the words. I'm just glad that we got
somebody on your walls.
Speaker 3 (35:21):
I definitely didn't have a room ever with like in
sync or even if I was, even though I was
fans of that, I never had like a room like
a room.
Speaker 1 (35:30):
How about in your locker, I didn't have a locker.
We already we talked about this locker had different child.
Speaker 3 (35:37):
I almost locker almost at my gym, like upgraded my
membership to get a locker, just so I had one,
even though I would have never left stuff I'm buying
for Christmas.
Speaker 1 (35:46):
I don't know how that's possibly like a little mini
one I'm gonna get. I'm getting you a full sized
locker delivered to your house. So Odd Jewels and Tommy
are there to pick him up and sarcastically compliments Michael's boots.
You get the feeling he has not yet forgiven him
for his la trip. Jeweles makes a quick stop at
a nearby bank to talk to a guy in a suit,
and eventually exits adding papers to her folder. She definitely
(36:08):
looks stressed. We are now at the ranch. Michael is
disturbed by the smell and guess who he meets Mule. Yes,
he finally meets Mule, good old Mule. He's a ranch
hand around and it reveals that actually Mule is his
real name, and I already love him. He's my favorite.
And not to be outdone, he meets Twister, a tough
looking mustache cowboy the backbone of the ranch who's already
(36:29):
intimidating the city folk on purpose. They're also They also
go compliment his goofy boots, and Michael brags that they're
Italian leather. Mule asks if that means the cow's mood
in an accent, but Michael insists it's because they're expensive.
Even Max, the family dog, can't stop growling at their
new visitor. I thought that we were going to get
(36:49):
a scene where eventually Max was going to be like
sitting with Michael on his lap kind of. They were
going to go for me always growled with them. I
thought it was gonna be an on running thing every
time he saw me growl. Then we're going to do
a scene where it's like he protects him or something,
and it just never happened. Michael will bunk with Tommy,
and he doesn't seem thrilled about it. He quickly calls
Gina back home and calls Montana Bowersville. As he hangs up,
(37:12):
Tommy is hiding in a nearby treehouse and jump scares Michael.
Boot Now in the house, Michael is impressed with their antiques,
including the TV stand, a gift to his dad from
a great great grandfather. Tommy teaches Michael how to use
the remote control in case he wants to watch some TV,
but Tommy's going to bed. On his way out, he
encourages Michael to stay up as late as he'd like,
with a smirk on his face. Very very early. The
next morning, Michael is sleeping and it's still dark outside,
(37:34):
so Tommy quietly hovers over him and loudly plays a
triangle right next to his ear. Michael jumps, rise and shine.
It's four thirty AM and breakfast is on the table.
Michael just went to bed, but Tommy doesn't care. Michael
tries to go back to sleep, but Tommy gives him
two words French riviera. It's payback time, and he knows
his aunt and uncle's phone number. Oh yeah, a little
(37:55):
bit of blackmail. Down in the kitchen, everyone is now
eating a big breakfast, even Twister and Mule. Michael takes
his seat and is told not to work on an
empty stomach. When he asks for turkey bacon, everyone laughs,
bacon's from a pig, not turkey's. Reality's setting in Montana's
Gonna Suck for Michael, Tommy says he wants.
Speaker 2 (38:13):
Tana's Gonna suck for Michael.
Speaker 5 (38:16):
It's absolutely well it is.
Speaker 1 (38:19):
Tommy says, he went to the bluff and saw that
three colored paint again, and I had no idea what
he was talking about, not at all. Had rewind it twice.
Speaker 2 (38:27):
I did too. I was like, was he saying three
colored pig?
Speaker 1 (38:31):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (38:31):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (38:32):
I just accepted what. I figure it out later because
I was like, I don't know, there's a three colored paint, Okay,
I know what that means. Twister and Mule leave for work,
and Tommy gleefully decides Michael's first day will be doing
work around the barn. Sounds harmless enough Michael also meets Goliath,
a very mean bull that once tried to kill Mule.
How dare you? I will kill anyone who tries to
hurt Mule. Still dressed to the nines, Michael will spend
(38:54):
his day moving manure to a pickup truck, something he
begrudgingly does all day, eventually falling ahead first into the
newer and later finding out he could have used a
nearby tractor instead of a shovel and wheelburrow. And if
you pause it, it's not even close to being Joey
Lawrence who falls in the mud.
Speaker 2 (39:10):
Oh really, when he gets out of the.
Speaker 1 (39:13):
Mud, they're still shooting him head on. And I paused it.
I'm like, they're not even trying to hide. It's just
some other guy.
Speaker 2 (39:20):
It just not that though I did not notice that
several times.
Speaker 1 (39:25):
In this movie. It's just some other dude.
Speaker 2 (39:27):
Oh my gosh. You know why, I was going, what
kind of in my head?
Speaker 3 (39:32):
Then I start going, if I had to do this scene,
what would it be that I was actually falling into
just because even mud seems disgusting.
Speaker 1 (39:42):
It's mud, You're falling in the mud. Come on, you're
making a movie. I know, But I was amazed. I
was like, oh god, that's not even They show another guy.
I thought it was a mistake. They show another guy
pushing the wheelbarrow and then falling into the mud and
then getting up and looking at the camera with glasses
on him, like, that's that's just not him. For the
last ten seconds, it hasn't been him. If you don't
(40:02):
want to try to hide.
Speaker 3 (40:03):
It, you know his face so well because I did
not notice that.
Speaker 1 (40:07):
Gobe Honestly, go back and watch and you're like, oh
my god.
Speaker 2 (40:09):
Joey was Joey up on your wall?
Speaker 1 (40:12):
Will now that you know it's I just noticed stuff, Sabrina,
And yes he was. He was dreamy. What do you
want from me?
Speaker 4 (40:21):
Hey?
Speaker 2 (40:22):
Hey, hey.
Speaker 1 (40:23):
The first time I met Joey Lawrence, we're both twelve
years old, and we bumped into each other. Literally. I
was going in and he was coming out of the
Ed Debevieck's bathroom and in.
Speaker 3 (40:30):
Line, I loved vicksh At Tobeks is the best.
Speaker 1 (40:34):
We've talked about it on Potmetrol all the time, Magical
Rewind and Podmeworld sponsored by Ed Debecks. Uh, they're not anyway. Later,
Tommy and his mom are on the porch, looking concerned.
What are they going to do? She says that they'll
have to go live with their uncle Hank for a while,
just until they can get their feet back on the ground.
Tommy hopes the bank can just wait a little longer,
but his mom admits they owe a lot of money,
(40:54):
more than they'll ever have, and there's an auction with
the bank in four weeks to start liquidating their things.
You could they're both heartbroken, she says, to keep this
news between them. Just as Michael returns from a long shower,
he joins them for the sunset, or what they call
God's painting. Tommy decides to go to bed, and Michael
says he won't be watching TV tonight. Now alone with
his aunt, Michael admits that Montana is a little bit
different than La. She points out the treehouse. It explains
(41:17):
it was a project that Tommy and his dad started
before he got sick, but now Tommy just can't finish.
Michael says he's sorry for what happened to his uncle John.
She says the ranch was his life and starts to
get choked up. The next day, Tommy brings Michael to
help with branding the cows, and I didn't like the
scene just because branding looks awful. They're going to see
the cattle through and then spend the night outside. Their
(41:38):
neighbor said she saw some wolf tracks, but Tommy thinks
it's no big deal. Michael swears he can ride a horse,
but no one is convinced. Tommy's found his horse with
his dad and then nursed her back to life. Michael's
given a very skinny horse named Slingshot, but Michael demands
a healthier looking one they sometimes call Black and right
as they point to him, I kid you not. My
wife will back me up. Right as they point to him,
Before he even says anything, I go, I bet that
(41:59):
horse is named Lightning. I swear to God I did it.
And so when they finally say Lightning, both toon and
I went, oh, my god, like I fully called the
name doors my God. I don't know why. Once he
mounts Black, Michael takes almost no precautions whatsoever, so he
takes off at full speed on first kick. We get
a real rodeo scene here, and a stunt double eventually
throwing Michael right into Goliath's pen. Uh oh, that is
(42:21):
a killer bowl and it instantly goes to Gorham, but
Michael exits just in time, and if you slow it down,
it looks like whoever's jumping out of the pen might
have gotten hit in the leg. It's real close. Not
a good start to the day. Now they're out in
the canyon, the whole gang is rounding up cows, with
Michael trying his best but mostly just falling off of
the saddle. And once they do corrawl the animals and start,
(42:41):
you know, branding the cows one by one, he actually
does start to help. That night, they prepare dinner outside
and Michael's getting accustomed to slingshot, though his butt is sore.
But before he can rest, Twister gives him some jerky
and a flashlight. He's first watch up for the wolves.
He's told not to make any abrupt noises and if
he sees any wolves, just come back and get them.
Now he's on night watch. Michael does what Michael does,
(43:04):
and for some reason calls Gina and complains mid conversation,
s he's a beautiful shooting star and it's a shooting
star that isn't a Cheetah Girls two shooting star. This
one actually just goes pretty quick, like a real shooting star.
Speaker 2 (43:15):
I could have done for it to go a little
bit longer, a.
Speaker 1 (43:17):
Little bit less, so that you and your three friends
could get up and make wishes.
Speaker 2 (43:21):
I get run to the window and make a wish.
Speaker 1 (43:23):
I get it. He's obviously never seen a shooting star
in Los Angeles, and he has to admit Montana is beautiful.
Gina begs him not to go all quote, dances with
wolves on him unquote, and becomes frustrated when he's not
paying attention to her and hangs up. It's also worth
noting that a very popular nineties club, Dragonfly, is mentioned
here some la realism in the script. I had to
(43:43):
ask producer Jensen if that was real thing, because apparently
it is. And I've never been to a club in
my life. So when Gina the only time I went
to a night club, I went to Sabrina Carpenter's sixteenth
birthday and a nightclub, and I was like, A why
am I in a nightclub for a seat teen year old?
And b I was like forty So no, I was not. Hey, crowds,
(44:06):
loud music, dancing, yay. No, not for this guy.
Speaker 2 (44:10):
Crowds in me can't do it. I get elbowed in
the head. It was not good for me.
Speaker 1 (44:14):
Yeah, but you could dance the night away. We all know.
I've seen it. I've seen it. I saw you with
what's his name? With the guy who you made out with.
We'll get into that later. Would that guy venue? Oh?
Would dancing guy from Chetah Girls tube on your wall?
Speaker 3 (44:27):
No?
Speaker 5 (44:28):
Wow?
Speaker 1 (44:29):
Okay no, first on screen kiss wouldn't have been in
the wall. That's sad, Sabrina. So when Gina quickly calls
back to apologize for her attitude, the ringing spooks his horse,
kicking Michael out of the saddle and causing the cows
to stampede. He runs away, and as they chase me,
calls nine to one one. He eventually jumps in a
tree to let them pass, but that was another close call.
(44:49):
The group eventually catches up with the now smashed cell
phone and can't believe he lost all the cows. The
next day, Twister rounded up strays and the stampede knocked
down some fences. Now Michael's been tasked with moving large
wooden poles for the broken fences into a truck, a
job he thinks will be easy for him, but when
Mule sees his progress, Michael finds out that the truck
he's been using hasn't run in fifteen years. Mule shows
(45:11):
him the real truck that was hiding around the corner.
And so now Michael wants a word with Tommy. He's
angry about the truck mix up and is sick of
being sabotage. Payback is over. Tommy can't believe he used
to want Michael to be his brother. And even at
this point even I agreed. I was like, Okay, yeah,
he treats he didn't treat you well when you were
in LA and you got him back a couple times. Enough,
(45:32):
even I was to the enough point at this At
this point, I got it.
Speaker 4 (45:35):
I got it.
Speaker 3 (45:36):
Was like, hey, Michael, why don't we start like looking
around before you start your next project and just make
sure that you.
Speaker 2 (45:43):
Know what you're doing, because now it's starting.
Speaker 1 (45:47):
You Shame on, you fool me twice pulls in a truck.
So that's as the old saying.
Speaker 2 (45:52):
Is the old old old say. Everyone knows Mike.
Speaker 1 (45:56):
That everyone knows that. Michael says the reunion wasn't real life.
They were the only two people under thirty. He was
just so bored. He had nothing better to do than
hang out with Tommy. They decided at that point to
stay out of each other's way for the rest of
his stuff.
Speaker 2 (46:10):
That was harsh, though, Michael, come on, you're twenty. This
kid's young, and.
Speaker 1 (46:13):
That's but it also shows how good an actor Andy is.
Andy was so good. I mean, they both are, but
Andy was so good in the scene. He is a
true dcom star. I also feel like we might have
gotten a little bit robbed of him as a mainstream
movie star. Yes, feel like, especially when I was watching
a bunch of this, I had real but even better
(46:33):
for his age, but real kind of Macaulay Culkin vibes,
like how he easily could have taken that path of
being in some of these huge Hollywood movies when he
was that age.
Speaker 3 (46:42):
He was great, Yes, And I honestly I don't know
his like you know story of like why and what
happened where?
Speaker 2 (46:51):
You know, yeah, where the career ended up going.
Speaker 3 (46:54):
Because you're right, he was great and everyone loved him.
And how adore this age before he's hitting his like
cool guy age. How adorable is he? Like, yeah, he
could be in anything anything.
Speaker 1 (47:08):
Well, look at him in this and then look at
him and going to the mat. It looks like two
different people. I mean, he looks so much like a
Lawrence and going to the mat and here he's like
he's a Lawrence obviously, but he's just the cute leading
kid y.
Speaker 3 (47:20):
Yeah, his eyes are just like the kindest little teddy
bear eyes.
Speaker 2 (47:24):
You just want to just like, oh, come here, give
me a hug a little bit.
Speaker 3 (47:29):
He does.
Speaker 1 (47:29):
He definitely lights up the scream he does.
Speaker 2 (47:32):
He does.
Speaker 1 (47:40):
Michael then finds a safe spot to nap on his truck,
only to eventually be startled by Twister, barking orders the
rebuilding of the fence will take weeks, which Michael just
doesn't have the patience for, and Twister points out that
Michael just doesn't give a darn, and he does say
darn about the family losing their ranch, which Michael doesn't get.
Lose their ranch. Yeah he didn't know. Twister says everything, Michael,
right now, isn't that truck, and then rides away. We're
(48:03):
back in the house. The banker is serving the family's
belongings for auction, even sizing up the antique TV stand,
which is an arm wall. I love that word, Michael
complimented him earlier on, and as the bankers leave, Michael enters.
Jules tries to cover up the meeting, but he knows
something was up. That night, Michael can't sleep. He stares
at the picture of his deceased unkle and he knows
he has to do something. He goes out to the
stables and gets to know at nightning a little better
(48:25):
called it. Eventually, the sound of the horse wakes Tommy up.
When he sees his cousin practicing outside, Tommy is actually impressed.
That morning, Michael starts working on the fence and Joey
Lawrence is very buff. He really was in nineties, hunk.
There's no denying it.
Speaker 2 (48:40):
I'm telling you he was. He was.
Speaker 1 (48:43):
I will I will say this, and I'm very comfortable
in my own sexuality. I know the man can fill
out a tank top. That's all I have to say.
Speaker 3 (48:51):
There's not very many guys either that like I would
be like, I don't really love guys in the tank tops,
but like Joey and Lawrence can wear a tank it's okay,
Like good, it's okay, it's okay. Like I really don't
I'm not into tank tops with guys really that much.
Speaker 2 (49:08):
But Joey can fill a.
Speaker 1 (49:10):
Tank top works on Joey Man, What do you want
to say? He just can't.
Speaker 2 (49:14):
You can't. You can't take it away from him.
Speaker 1 (49:16):
You can't.
Speaker 2 (49:17):
That would be a lie.
Speaker 1 (49:18):
We'd be lying, and we don't do that on the show.
Speaker 2 (49:20):
We absolutely don't. It is nothing but the truth here
on Magical.
Speaker 1 (49:24):
On Magical rewind. Eventually, Tommy dismounts nearby and points out
the three colored paint something we can finally understand. He
was talking about a multi colored horse and the herd
has let her join the group. Tommy knew they would.
Michael apologizes for earlier he said some cruel things that
weren't true. At the reunion, he truthfully had a great time.
They sit on a bench that Tommy's dad made, and
Tommy talks about how much he misses him. He'd sit
(49:45):
with his dad on the bench every day after work
and name the horses together. They even named the little
one Tommy Boy. His dad thought the wild horses were lucky,
but now Tommy doubts that, and that helps Michael put
together why his cousin hates the racetrack. Michael wants to
know why he didn't know about the banking issues, and
Tommy admits that he doubted he'd even care. They just
can't get out of debt, and no one can because
(50:06):
everyone in this area is having the same issues. They'll
auction their belongings next week, sell the herd, and do
what they can. But what is Michael care? Tommy Nosey's
leaving soon for a vacation with Gina. It is another great, touching,
quiet scene for d Coom. I don't know if it's
harder to act with your brother when you're both playing
different characters, or if it's easier to act, but the chemistry.
Speaker 2 (50:29):
Was just unreal. It really was.
Speaker 1 (50:31):
And there's a couple scenes in the movie that are
that are like this, that are just really good quiet
dcom scenes that were great.
Speaker 3 (50:38):
Yes, I mean throughout the whole movie. It was just like, man,
you just kept going for me. I just kept going.
Speaker 2 (50:45):
God, these guys are good, but they're just.
Speaker 3 (50:47):
I mean, I will believe anything they're selling at this point,
like they're just so good.
Speaker 1 (50:53):
In all fairness, I think after the last scene, no
matter what he was selling, if he was in the
tank top, you'd be buying.
Speaker 3 (50:57):
Let's be honest, this is Oh I can't even give
you just the seed, because then you just take it
and you grow a freaking orchard with it.
Speaker 2 (51:06):
God damn it.
Speaker 1 (51:07):
Okay, seeds are meant to grow things, Sabrina, seeds are
meant to grow things. That's the way it works. Later,
Michael comfortably sprints home on his horse to call his dad.
He tells them about Jewels and Tommy's financial situation, but
his dad already knew about it. His dad actually tried
to help them, but they won't accept his money. They're
too proud to take handouts. He even offered to make
it alone, but Jewels said no. Michael doesn't get it.
(51:28):
They're just gonna throw all this away. Michael isn't giving up, though,
He's going to find a way to keep the ranch.
The next morning, Michael is quick to explain pyramid schemes
to Twister. This is his plan. Well, I guess this
is what you get when you're in college and getting
these good idea. Hey, not only leave them broke, but
put him in jail. This is such a random edition,
and we found where we could cut two minutes to
(51:49):
make it ninety minutes. This scene could have gone, you
don't need it. Get them something in the good you know,
have him come up with another thing, you know, anything else,
essentially to get the same scene.
Speaker 3 (51:59):
True to the time, because at this time there were
so many different pyramid schemes kind of out there.
Speaker 1 (52:05):
I guess that's true.
Speaker 3 (52:06):
Yeah, it was really true to the and it was
a quick way to make a buck. And how people,
especially young people, I mean, how many times was it
like a door to door salesman situation where you're just like, yeah, okay.
Speaker 1 (52:17):
So if you and I can get two other podcasts
to come together, and then they get two.
Speaker 2 (52:23):
Other podcasts, right, it's just ridiculous.
Speaker 1 (52:27):
It'll work, It'll work. Yes, good news is Twister figures
out it's a gambling scam and passes on the idea,
but reiterates jewels won't take money from anyone anyway. Michael
just doesn't get all this pride, Twister explains, it just
don't make any sense to keep the business going. It
happens to a lot of farmers and ranchers, which is
another kind of underlying story of this movie, as it
does happens to a lot of farmers and ranchers who
(52:48):
work their butts off to keep the rest of us fed,
and sometimes they can't keep their farms. Later, Jewels and
Tommy are leaving for Uncle Hank's barbecue, but Michael's decided
to stay home. We find out Tommy has been rushing
to get the treehouse done before they leave, but it's
a lot of work. But once Jewels and Tommy leave,
Michael uses the alone time to finish the treehouse, something
he just magically knows. I mean the guy houses.
Speaker 3 (53:11):
That was one of the things, like the guy can't
have a clue on how to get this fence started
to get finished.
Speaker 1 (53:18):
But he's building a small home.
Speaker 2 (53:19):
But he can go up there and build a tiny,
a tiny little apartment.
Speaker 1 (53:23):
In like two hours, he builds the whole house, including
a debt with with a railing. So it was like,
oh my god, the only the only thing missing this
is like I'm putting the pool in the morrow, Like
what's the problem? It was? It was a lot it
should have been like it again, like he.
Speaker 2 (53:38):
Just did a lot of like not I don't think
he needed to finish it.
Speaker 3 (53:42):
He could have just made it like like the progress,
like a lot of progress to show like it.
Speaker 1 (53:46):
Should have been something like that was so close to
being done, but the last three boards he keep the
Tommy keeps putting up and pulling off, and putting up
and pulling off. I couldn't say. Michael goes to finish it,
and he like does the finishing touches, but the idea
of that in two hours, he's able to finish the
entire home. It's a five bedroom.
Speaker 2 (54:05):
Hall, four and a half fast It's very nice.
Speaker 1 (54:07):
It's on Zillow check.
Speaker 3 (54:08):
It out, stick it out for three million dollars three
point two million.
Speaker 1 (54:15):
But when the duo returned to see his work, Tommy
is not happy. He was supposed to finish it with
his dad. He starts frantically dismantling it, breaking down and
crying in pain.
Speaker 2 (54:24):
Another great scene. Great see mister Andy Lawrence. Yes, great and.
Speaker 1 (54:28):
Even the way Joey reacts. They're both really good in
this movie. Now Inside, Michael calls Gina to tell her
about Jules's terrible financial situation when he's heading off to Europe.
They won't you to have a house. She doesn't care.
It's all too depressing. She wants to talk about villas,
five star restaurants and a racehorse or dad just bought.
He explains he's proud of himself. He's been learning and
doing things he never thought he could do. He's working
(54:49):
with his hands and riding horses, but she cuts him
off and hangs up. I hated Gina. The next morning,
he's still working with Gina.
Speaker 2 (54:58):
A new girl name for us.
Speaker 6 (55:01):
Gina, Like from now on, Yeah, seriously, God's damn it Gina.
Speaker 2 (55:08):
That's it. There it is God, Gina, Gina.
Speaker 1 (55:11):
Don't even get me started. Don't get me started on Gina.
The next morning, he is still working when he hears
a stampede of horses. He's quick to remember all their names,
but then Tommy races down the hill and his horse
screaming for Twister. He tells Michael that Tommy Boy is dying.
Michael jumps on Tommy's horse to help and finds Tommy
Boy stuck in the mud. Tommy tried to lasso him
out but can't get to him, so Michael wants to
(55:32):
go in, but Tommy knows he has an easier time
of it because of his weight. He's smaller, he can
get there safer, so they tie a rope around Tommy
and slowly let him walk into the mud, with Tommy
giving him slack and making sure they don't also lose
a human in this, because you know that would suck.
Tommy does eventually wrap up the horse, but spooks him,
pushing Tommy and Michael into the mud. Michael jumps up
(55:53):
and Tommy caresses the animal. M He's a very stressed animal.
And this is where horse sense, I think comes in
a little bit. Yes, he's cressing out of animal, he's
kind of relaxing.
Speaker 2 (56:02):
The close up on the eye.
Speaker 1 (56:03):
On the eyes, all that stuff. Michael is touched and
impressed by his cousin's calmness, only snapping out of his
reaction when he has to work again to pull him out.
It is a tough push and pull, but eventually they
save Tommy boy and let him be free. They did it,
the cousins worked together. We're now back at the house.
Jewels sees the boys returning and is not only shocked
to see how muddy her son is, but Michael is
(56:24):
only five minutes to shower and make his flight home.
Michael runs the house to get ready. Now packed and clean,
Michael power walks to the car with Tommy. This trip
went so fast. Michael apologizes again about Disneyland and promises
him next time he's in La they're going for sure.
He says goodbye and gets in Jewels's truck to leave.
On our way to the airport, they notice they're being
trailed by Tommy or a thirty five year old man
(56:44):
on a horse, which is obviously what it was. He
it's the whistle he still has there he wants to
finally give it to Michael. He thanks Tommy for the
thoughtful gift, and they drive off, waving goodbye to his
now smiling cousin riding the horse, which then turns into
a little bit of a horse car race. Michael's at
the track again. He's home now in Los Angeles with
Gina and her dad, but now he hears every crack
(57:05):
of every whip and imagines the wild horses in Montana.
He can't enjoy this anymore. They make their way to
the winner circle, and even though he's one, because again
he's one, Gina's dad's horse freaks out, bucking the jockey
onto the ground while everyone runs away. Michael approaches the
horse and is able to calm him down by pulling
its reins and rubbing him softly, just like his cousin
did for Tommy Boy horse sense. Back at Michael's house. Gina,
(57:30):
Gina and her dad.
Speaker 5 (57:31):
God damn it, Gina, damn it, Gina, God damn it
Gina have arrived to pick him up for Europe.
Speaker 1 (57:39):
Elena can tell something is bothering Michael, but he says
everything's okay. He gets his luggage and makes his way
to the limo, but when Gina say.
Speaker 2 (57:46):
It, God damn it, Gina.
Speaker 1 (57:49):
Runs out to greet him. He doesn't give his bags
to the chauffeur. He's not going. He realizes there's something
more important than he has to do, and Gina, God
damn it, Gina is not happy. We cut to a
car dealership when Michael has sold his car. Then he
decides to liquidate his trust fund at the bank. Back
in Montana, Jewels and Tommy are packing up their things.
They're sad, but they know things will work out, and
(58:10):
then the door opens. It's Michael. He says it's time
to unpack. Jewles is shocked to see him. Michael hands
her a check, but she still can't take it. He
says it's an investment, not a free ride, but she
says it's a bad investment. She says it's time to
move on. Jewels tears up, but that's it, it's over.
She asked Michael to trust her. They're going to be fine.
The next day, they're prepping for the auction. Potential bidders
(58:31):
are checking out the items in the front yard. Tommy
and Michael bring out some last minute editions, including a
trunk that could bring them some extra cash. Tommy says
his mom filled it with all of his childhood schoolwork.
She of course, has kept everything like me. They discover
some of Tommy's A plus classwork, reminding Michael of his
recent D plus. When Tommy asked him what class it
was in, Michael remembers it was about real estate and
deeds and trusts are something and then light bulb that
(58:53):
gives him an idea. He's got to check something out.
He calls his dad to recover that test. He wants
to know something about land trusts. Next thing. You know,
although why he would go to his dplus paper where
obviously everything he said was.
Speaker 2 (59:05):
Wrong, Everything was wrong.
Speaker 1 (59:07):
That's what I started joking. I was watching the thing
and I was like, Michael, this is one long sentence.
Speaker 3 (59:11):
None ask him for your textbook. Where's your text book?
Let's get the actual facts. Michael something this essay.
Speaker 1 (59:20):
Exactly, let's look for something other than that. Hey, that's
a good idea. Next thing, you know, Michael is running
back to the auction. His car is blocked in, so
he quickly hops on Lightning and takes the horse all
the way to the bank to meet with the man
for closing on the ranch. He tells the banker his
ot and cousin work hard, and he knows there's no
such thing as quick fix, but he's done some research
and has an idea. The bank has foreclosed on eighteen
(59:41):
ranches in the last few years, and all of these
properties are still for sale, he suggests. So essentially, what
he's saying is you're losing money by doing this. He
suggests a land trust. That way they can work together
to make some money. He just needs to take a chance,
and just like that, the banker says he'll give it
some thought. Back at the ranch, the auction's in full effect.
It now the beloved t two hundred year old armoire
that uses the TV stand is up for sale. Jewels
(01:00:03):
can't stay. It's too much for her. But just as
they're leaving, here comes Michael and Lightning. He cuts off
the auctioneer in commandeer is the mic. He announces this
auction is over, nothing else will be sold, and everything
will be refunded. He apologizes and sends them home. Jewels
is mad, what is he doing? She explains they don't
have a choice, but Michael says, actually they do have
a choice. He reveals a thirty day extension from the
(01:00:24):
bank and tells Tommy that his dad was right. The
wild horses are lucky. He then explains land trusts. Because
the land supports stray horses, the land trust can protect
them and their habitats. So if the land is accepted
by the trust, which it should be, the debt will
be covered by it. They won't own the land anymore,
but they'll get paid to stay where they are and
to take care of it. Jewels thanks him, but Michael
(01:00:46):
is one last request. He wants to stay in Montana
a little longer to see the trust through. This is
obviously okay, and we even see Twister and Mule smile
a little bit. God, I love Mule. As the bidders leave, Mule,
That's why I'd have my wall locker, I'd have a
picture of Mule. As the bitters leave, Tommy asks Michael,
one last thing, do you feel like working on the treehouse,
(01:01:08):
and this time he does. They race off to finish it,
and that's our movie. Wow, Sabrina, let's do some real reviews.
I've got the one star and excuse me, I've got
the five star this week and it's by the jew
(01:01:29):
review Wow he and it reads as follows not a
load of manure. This is one of the hardest films
to watch because it's not officially on DVD and the VHS.
It's hard to come by. This movie is rewarding in
that it does show what love, family and hard work
can offer. Five stars. I agree, I like it all right.
(01:01:50):
What do you got there, Sabrina.
Speaker 3 (01:01:52):
I've got a one star by our friend of the
podcast named got another one from unnamed somebody who wants
to say something on the internet and not claim it.
All right, one star? Well, what do you expect from
a Disney movie? Cheese and over the top, heartwarmy moments.
But John Lawrence is nice to look at all right.
Speaker 1 (01:02:17):
Okay, for the record, Johnny Lawrence was the bad guy
in Karate Kid, so that's there. They're they're mixing up
Lawrence boys.
Speaker 3 (01:02:24):
Okay, don't give this nomid person any credit.
Speaker 2 (01:02:29):
That is garbage. This movie was greatly was it.
Speaker 1 (01:02:33):
Was okay, let's do our We of course to the
part of our program that Sabrina loves. It's our feature presentation.
This game, set up by producer Jensen, is called horse
Sense or sixth Sense. We better hope we were paying
attention because this week we'll be given a movie quote
and we must decide if it's a line from the
movie we just recapped, horse Sense or the nineteen ninety
(01:02:56):
nine breakout mystery thriller sixth Sense from m Night chamel In.
That sounds easy enough, right, three out of five wins,
You would think, Producer Jensen, are you with us?
Speaker 4 (01:03:06):
I think you guys are both horse sensed out. Let's see.
Speaker 1 (01:03:10):
I don't know if I'm gonna get this. Okay, first quote,
you think you're the only one who has to fight.
I'm gonna say sixth Sense.
Speaker 4 (01:03:23):
Yeah, Oh that's funny because it's horse sense.
Speaker 1 (01:03:26):
Come on, who says that?
Speaker 4 (01:03:28):
Twister?
Speaker 1 (01:03:30):
Oh god? This movie?
Speaker 4 (01:03:32):
Yeah, I figured this is gonna happen. I was like, like,
they just watched it, but I don't think it. I
think you're gonna be horse sensed out. Yeah, unsensible?
Speaker 1 (01:03:41):
Maybe our second quote, I didn't know you were funny.
I didn't know you were funny. Sixth sense, horse sense,
it's sixth sense. Yes, finally got one.
Speaker 2 (01:03:56):
Who's funny in sixth sense?
Speaker 1 (01:03:58):
Everybody that movie was just sterical.
Speaker 4 (01:04:00):
We didn't recap six cents, so I can't tell you.
Speaker 1 (01:04:04):
The third quote. You saw that on TV?
Speaker 4 (01:04:10):
I do love how just down the line these quotes.
Speaker 1 (01:04:13):
Are I know, they're so random.
Speaker 4 (01:04:15):
It's like there was one that was like hello, and
I was like, it could be either one.
Speaker 1 (01:04:18):
I can't right, you saw that on TV. I'm going
to say.
Speaker 2 (01:04:22):
That's sixth sense.
Speaker 1 (01:04:25):
I'm going to say horse sense splitting it one, it's
sixth sense. Okay, so you've got okay, wait, you gotta
get both these, yep?
Speaker 2 (01:04:34):
Okay?
Speaker 1 (01:04:35):
And the fourth quote you think this is a joke?
Speaker 2 (01:04:38):
Horse sense sense feets are so good.
Speaker 4 (01:04:43):
It's horse sense twister again.
Speaker 5 (01:04:45):
Yes, and number five I think we've won because number
five is I see dead People, which is clearly horse
sense six got th congrats, another double win.
Speaker 1 (01:05:00):
We're getting there. That was good.
Speaker 2 (01:05:03):
Dang, that was like, seriously, have.
Speaker 1 (01:05:09):
Been Can we please do some Sabrina sas?
Speaker 3 (01:05:15):
Of course we can. So we are going to where
are we going to start here again. I already told
you the the wow, we're not in the bedroom, just kidding,
We are right into the bedroom, just like right from
the beginning I wanted to go over with. We had
a lot of I don't know what you call them,
name drops or kind of either like spin offs of
(01:05:38):
names or name drops. We've talked about a couple of them,
but we did stop on each of them, like Lethal
the movies of the director Lethal Force instead of what
is leap leal Weapon? And then we had Tornado instead
of the movie time Twister, right, and then we'll Dances
with Wolves was an actual movie, so it has and
(01:05:58):
that has to have been a Disney movie because that's
the only way they would probably have been able.
Speaker 2 (01:06:02):
To use that, right.
Speaker 3 (01:06:04):
And then of course we also did say the what
it was it, oh medieval.
Speaker 2 (01:06:09):
Times was called.
Speaker 1 (01:06:12):
Nights of the Round Table, Knights of the Roundtable.
Speaker 2 (01:06:15):
I just thought that was interesting.
Speaker 3 (01:06:16):
We haven't really seen or heard a lot of that
in the d cooms that much. They kind of played
with it a lot more. And then along the time
along the line, I said, we saw a thing of
missus doubtfire and we saw Brink twice in the movie.
So this was a little kind of funny thing, like
you said, those eggs that we got to kind of
see or hear.
Speaker 2 (01:06:36):
Well Matt law and of course Matt Lawrence. Yeah, his cameo.
That's on mine too.
Speaker 3 (01:06:42):
I loved the little linguo because I thought this was
a dated little thing. But it says the mom at
the very beginning with Michael says, you said, no problem.
Speaker 2 (01:06:52):
Oh that's like dated, right? Is this movie came out?
Speaker 1 (01:06:57):
I feel like pretty tubular. I don't know, is that wrong?
Speaker 3 (01:07:02):
I feel like this was that was dated, but I
don't know. To me, I was like, no problelimo. We
mentioned it a little bit, but this I want to think.
I have racked my brain. And this is our first
college student in a dcom. We haven't had anyone to college.
Speaker 1 (01:07:19):
Have we not been to college?
Speaker 2 (01:07:20):
Not at all? I don't think unless the.
Speaker 1 (01:07:22):
Only time it's been mentioned, I can think of it
being mentioned. The older brother in Hannah Montana movies, and
most college see him in correct, correct, David has We
didn't see him?
Speaker 2 (01:07:34):
No, not David Henry.
Speaker 1 (01:07:36):
Is that David Henry?
Speaker 3 (01:07:37):
No?
Speaker 2 (01:07:37):
Is he the older brother mont No, he's from uh.
Speaker 1 (01:07:41):
Oh, he's from Jason.
Speaker 2 (01:07:44):
Earls Jason David Henry was in the.
Speaker 1 (01:07:47):
Is Wizards of Waverley Place, Thank you, Yes, that's it.
Speaker 3 (01:07:51):
And then I thought it was odd, even though I
know we were just kind of getting through it. But
when he mentions a hit and run to his parents
like that, they were like, oh, that's weird, like you
could know you got a hit and run.
Speaker 2 (01:08:06):
I mean, let's call the cops. Like you can't just
like throw out hit and run and not think that.
Speaker 1 (01:08:12):
You guys, some guy walked up and stabbed me. It's
no big deal, right, okay?
Speaker 3 (01:08:16):
And then again I have to say, like a Rhymestone
cown boy, like, I mean, that guy was so good
when he got off the plane.
Speaker 2 (01:08:23):
You had to see it. You had to see it.
Speaker 3 (01:08:27):
Andy, this is this is a funny thing for me
after doing our interview and learning so much more about
him and how musical he is and can it from
you a lot?
Speaker 2 (01:08:37):
Why couldn't he play that triangle?
Speaker 1 (01:08:41):
I think.
Speaker 6 (01:08:43):
I know, but it just like like it's like get
it in there, like what are you doing? It's so funny,
like I just you.
Speaker 2 (01:08:55):
Can play the guitar, play the triangle.
Speaker 3 (01:09:01):
So when you hang out with him next, just like
remind him that like he does to work on his triangles, skilled.
Speaker 1 (01:09:06):
That's the best.
Speaker 2 (01:09:07):
And then I got this was on it.
Speaker 3 (01:09:10):
But we obviously find out that it was a horse.
But I was kind of thinking for a minute that
that three colored paint that he was talking about. Quickly after,
just in a few minutes, they talk about God's painting,
so I went, oh, that must have been where the
reference was going. But then no, it was a horse.
So they got me.
Speaker 2 (01:09:30):
They got me.
Speaker 3 (01:09:30):
I thought they were talking about a sunset at some point,
and then they got me. No, we're talking about a horse,
and that's it.
Speaker 1 (01:09:36):
There we go, thank you so much. And now, of
course we come to the part of our program where
we have to rate the film we just saw. Yes,
I'm sorry, I'm just figuring out what the rating system
should be to do. Let's do one out of ten
and want to I do, I do, and we'll do
one this time is the lowest, and we'll do ten
the best and our options this week one out of
(01:09:56):
ten friends named Mule, one out of ten movies, Tornado
Grass Smoothies, one a ten Dead Dad alerts oh one
at attend high school classes about land deeds. Even though we
think he's in college. Yeah, one at attend medieval times, lawsuits,
pyramid schemes, two hundred year old armoirs are I'm going
(01:10:18):
to add one out at ten. Goddamn it, Gina's.
Speaker 2 (01:10:21):
Uh, god, Gas, we got it.
Speaker 1 (01:10:24):
Goddamn it, Genas. I think I'm going first this time
because I think you went first for the last movie.
Speaker 3 (01:10:29):
Right, No, well, no, you went, well, we did on Tuesday,
we did the Cheetah Girls.
Speaker 1 (01:10:36):
So yeah, and I rted first, didn't I you? We
wouldn't have started with you, right, Oh that's right, So
then it is your first time. Sorry, my bad.
Speaker 2 (01:10:44):
Good.
Speaker 3 (01:10:44):
Well, because I want to make sure this is like
a true, true one because I really liked this movie.
It wasn't necessarily one of my favorite movies, but I
loved it because, especially now that we're getting a chance
to do an interview with Joey the friends of the
Pod being on it, and I loved that they were
(01:11:08):
so freaking good in this movie. This just put the
stamp on the royalty of the Lawrence family and what
they have and what they should be honored with at
the Disney franchises. Right, they were so good and I
really really like enjoyed this movie.
Speaker 2 (01:11:28):
But what I liked about it, it wasn't like.
Speaker 3 (01:11:30):
The high energy you know of the musicals that we watch,
and it wasn't necessarily super drama driven either.
Speaker 2 (01:11:38):
I mean, the drama was there, it was like in
the middle. And it was a really easy watch. It
was nice.
Speaker 3 (01:11:44):
It was slower pace than kind of what we've seen,
which normally would be like snoozefest for me because I
kind of like the pace a little bit faster. But
I liked it and I enjoyed it. It was just like
a really easy watch. And so I'm going to give
this an eight point five.
Speaker 2 (01:12:00):
God damn it, Gena's.
Speaker 1 (01:12:03):
I love that. I I couldn't agree with you more.
I thought it was a really good movie. I thought
they were engaging. They were great together. Andy and Joe
just I thought did really well. The movie made sense,
you know, it wasn't a ridiculous premise to why you
get this this guy from Beverly Hills. It worked.
Speaker 2 (01:12:25):
It worked, and there really weren't any holes, Like no,
it worked.
Speaker 1 (01:12:29):
I mean there's a couple of things. There was a
couple obvious uh stunt men where it was bad where
it was like, wow, that's not even close to being
Joey Lawrence. But other than that, I thought, again, the
acting was great, the adults were good, there was accountability
for the kids. I really liked this movie, and I'm
matching your eight point five. I thought that exact same
(01:12:50):
thing eight point five. God damn it Genas for this movie,
because I thought this was it was, it was, it was.
This was to me, you could not build a better
acting family than the Lawrence's for dcoms. They're perfect for this.
It was. I really enjoyed it. I really did. It was.
It was heartfelt, yes, funny, everything about it was beautifully shot.
(01:13:15):
It ate less great great, less seon.
Speaker 2 (01:13:17):
Okay, that is something we've got to just quickly hit.
Speaker 3 (01:13:21):
This movie was gorgeous, beautiful, budget beautiful, like it was
bigger than what a lot of our dim cooms are.
Speaker 2 (01:13:28):
The budget looked pretty hefty.
Speaker 1 (01:13:31):
Now, it was a beautiful movie, and I would suggest
anybody go and check it out. So there you go.
That's our movie, horse Sense. Our next movie is another
very high profile movie. We are recapping a Disney heavyweight People.
It is two thousand and threes Lizzie McGuire movie available
to stream on Disney Plus. Wow. So get in front
of us and watch it before next week if you can.
(01:13:53):
I've never seen a single Lizzie McGuire thing in my
entire life. I don't know if she's a wizard, if
she deals with horses. I have no idea what Lizzie
MacGuire does this one.
Speaker 3 (01:14:02):
This won't really like mess you up at all, but
there's like a cartoon aspect in it.
Speaker 2 (01:14:06):
I love that.
Speaker 1 (01:14:07):
Animation is my favorite thing in the world.
Speaker 2 (01:14:09):
Yeah, I know you would like it, So I.
Speaker 1 (01:14:10):
Got animation posters all around me. So love that very much.
But we're not done yet here because we've got a
big Park Copper episode this week. We've talked about it,
We're going to take it. We're doing it. It's happening.
We were talking to a nineties icon and Michael the
city boy from Horse Sense. It is Joey Lawrence himself.
We had a ton of fun talking about not only
this movie, but the guy's entire career. Take a listen
right now so we can watch Appetite. Was it always
(01:14:34):
going to be you and Andy in the movie? How
did the whole film come about? Yeah? We put this
together for the Disney Channel. Yes, yes, wow, yeah, okay, yeah.
Speaker 7 (01:14:43):
We actually we found a couple of great writers, Chad
and Carry Hayes, who are great writers, and yeah, we
came up with the idea, sort of pitched it to
Gary Marsh and yeah, and they obviously wanted to do something.
Speaker 1 (01:14:57):
I promise that's one you did not want to miss.
I mean, in all fairtas, you shouldn't miss any our interviews.
