Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Well, maybe the series has your attention again. Surprise, surprise,
the Pacers win it and now up two games to one.
Game four will be Friday, back in Indiana, Age seven
to seven to three. DP show email address Dpadanpatrick dot com,
Twitter handle a DPS show. During the regular season, the Thunder,

(00:25):
we're sixty one and two when taking a lead into
the fourth quarter. They've already lost as many games during
the regular season with that stat. They're one and two
when taking a lead into the fourth quarter of this series.
And this might come down to conditioning, because if you
watch Indiana in the fourth quarter, they've been great in

(00:45):
the fourth quarter, and it's almost like they use the
first three quarters to just hold on and make sure
they don't get too far behind, or maybe they happen
to have, you know, a lead at some point. But
Oklahoma City taking a lead into the four fourth quarter
and you can see a different energy level, certainly with
the Pacers, and that was evident last night. By the way,

(01:07):
if you follow these trends of the previous forty one
NBA Finals that were tied at one game apiece, the
game three winner went on to win.

Speaker 3 (01:18):
What percentage of the time tied to a game.

Speaker 2 (01:24):
Apiece the team that won Game three went on to
win the title blank percentage of the time Todd.

Speaker 4 (01:33):
Sixty nine percent of the time, Seaton six.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
Marvin eighty one, Paul seventy four, eighty percent of the time.

Speaker 5 (01:42):
Stat of the Day, SAT of the Day, Top post,
stat of the day, stat of the day.

Speaker 3 (01:49):
It comes down what stat of the day? Stop stat
of the Day.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
Brought to you by Panini America, the official trading cards
of the Dan Patrick Show. Mike Green was on the
call for ESPN ABC last night. He'll join us in
about fifteen minutes from now. Here's Tyrese Halliburton on the
critics after the previous game.

Speaker 4 (02:11):
The commentary is always going to be what it is.
You know, most of the time, the talking heads on
the major platforms, I couldn't care less, honestly, like, what
do they really know about basketball? The commentary is what
it is. At this point, you know, it doesn't matter.
You know, we're here in the NBA Finals, two wins
away from an NBA championship, So you just got to
stay with it, put my head down, keep working and

(02:32):
as a group We just got to keep learning from
our mistakes, see where we can get better and take
it a day a time.

Speaker 3 (02:37):
Yeah, he nearly had a triple double. They were more aggressive.

Speaker 2 (02:40):
You got a great performance from Benedict Mathern.

Speaker 3 (02:44):
He had twenty seven.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
Now he's the first player to come off the bench
and lead both teams in scoring in an NBA Finals
game since.

Speaker 3 (02:56):
Marvin.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
What's the year I might give it away? Give it away,
Give it away now? Twenty eleven, Anthony Keatis, Jason Terry, Yeah,
Jason Terry, bloop blop. The commentary is always gonna thank you.

Speaker 6 (03:16):
It's funny when they like athletes lump in, like wow,
the people saying all that stuff don't know what they're
talking about, and like probably fifty to seventy five percent
of them are former players. Although those guys don't know
what they're talking about anyway. So I don't really listen
to that noise because it's just you know, a bunch
of talking heads. It's like Shack saying, yeah, Markley, I
think he knows what he's talking.

Speaker 3 (03:37):
Yeah, yeah, big perk. He didn't know what he's talking about.
There no what he's talking about. So I don't even
listening to Big.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
Perk uh So, Yeah, the NBA Finals going on, the
Knicks are still looking for a head coach. Here's Charles
Barkley on NBA TV pregame show.

Speaker 7 (03:53):
The Knicks got to be the stupidest damn people in
the world who's fight. You don't find no good coach
like that and don't have a I mean, tipsid a
hell of a job. Obviously sum's going on now, but
you don't have a plan, and now the three coaches
turn you down. You gotta have a plan, man, I mean,

(04:15):
I don't know what the hell they're gonna do.

Speaker 2 (04:17):
Well, Okay, it looks bad now, the optics, as they
like to say, looks bad. But when do you need
a head coach? You'd like to have it right away
if you're going to fire TIBs and go yes, this
is why we fired him, because we brought in Michael
Malone or whoever it is, or we're bringing in Jason Kidd.
I mean, you're not bringing in Phil Jackson here, and

(04:37):
that didn't even work out when you brought in Phil Jackson. Remember,
Steve Kerr turned down the job, and I thought, gosh,
he's going to turn down the job to coach Golden
State and then what a great move by Steve Kerr.
I don't know if you get back to retreads, you're

(04:59):
gonna bring candidates here, but at what point you go,
we have to have a coach in place. It's like
Aaron Rodgers with the Steelers. My gut feeling all along
was they had an agreement and he would come in.
He would come in when he's ready. The coach knew
about it, and everybody should be fine with this.

Speaker 3 (05:16):
This is different. You fire that guy.

Speaker 2 (05:19):
You couldn't wait to fire that guy, and it felt
like okay, and here comes whoever.

Speaker 3 (05:25):
But you're going to have the draft.

Speaker 2 (05:28):
Do you need to have a coach if you're going
to be trying to pull off for trade, you know,
for Yannis, do you need to have a coach as
well in there?

Speaker 3 (05:35):
Now?

Speaker 2 (05:35):
If that coach is Jason Kidd, then yes, you need
to have him in place so he can be reunited
with him. But other than that, the timeframe doesn't look good.
And maybe the NBA has said to the Knicks this
has happened before with a previous commissioner, don't do anything
to upstage the NBA finals. Wait normally to fire hire

(06:00):
somebody or hire somebody. But I can go back to
one specific moment where the commissioner wasn't pleased because he
didn't want an announcement to be made that somebody was
going to be hired. He didn't want to take away
from the NBA Finals. I don't know if that's the case,
but trying to find a coach for the Knicks and

(06:22):
seems like it's a little more of a struggle than
we thought it was going to be. And all the
good will you build up, this is exciting, it's fun.
New York's alive. We got to the Eastern Conference finals. Well,
you got to the Eastern Conference Finals because luck. Luck
played a big role in guys getting injured. The two
best teams weren't fully assembled. Now, granted, you play whoever's

(06:46):
in front of you, but if you look at the
reality of this, how good is that team? They're not
better than the Cabs. They're not better than the Celtics
at full strength. I think the Celtics are going to
look a whole lot different this next season. Cleveland's probably
gonna keep their core four together, and the Pacers are

(07:06):
gonna be there as well. Because you're not better than
the Pacers as much as you, in your mind, were
the Knicks. We're better than the Pacers. We don't even
know if OKC is better than the Pacers. Indiana has
played great basketball. Yeah, seton.

Speaker 6 (07:22):
Just because a team isn't laying out their plans for
us in detail doesn't mean they don't have one, you know.

Speaker 3 (07:28):
I get that.

Speaker 6 (07:29):
The uh when there's sort of a vacuum of information,
we try to fill it without any having any real information.
But I don't know that I've ever seen a team
sit down and say thank.

Speaker 3 (07:38):
You all for being here.

Speaker 6 (07:40):
Now that we fire the coach, here's our three step
plan moving forward.

Speaker 3 (07:43):
First, we're gonna try to hire this guy if that
guy doesn't work. No, I don't know that I've ever
seen a team lay out this is what we're gonna do.

Speaker 6 (07:49):
That's exactly what our plan is now that we've made
this surprising move.

Speaker 2 (07:53):
I would have liked to have had the Knicks somebody
get in front of a microphone and explain what happened.

Speaker 3 (07:59):
Correct you fired Tom Thibodeaux.

Speaker 2 (08:02):
I'd like to have somebody who had the wherewith all
the guts, the confidence, whatever, just tell the media, Hey,
this is why we moved on because as a Knicks fan,
aren't you owed that?

Speaker 3 (08:18):
Like, wait a minute, what happened here?

Speaker 2 (08:20):
And everybody's got an opinion about Tom Thibodeau and all
he works his players too hard, and everybody says the
same thing. But you gave him an extension last July,
almost a year ago. You gave him an extension. Was
he the same coach back then as he was this year?
And the answers, yes, the guy who was his agent

(08:41):
gave him that contract extension. That's what's baffling. You gave
him a fully guaranteed contract for a guy that you
probably knew before the playoffs started you were going to fire.
And then all of a sudden they started winning, and
then Tatum goes out.

Speaker 3 (09:00):
The Cavaliers are banged up.

Speaker 2 (09:01):
Now all of a sudden, you're in the Eastern Conference
finals and you're probably going damn if we get to
the finals.

Speaker 3 (09:07):
Do we have to keep them?

Speaker 2 (09:13):
What are the candidates? Do we have the odds on
who's the next head coach of the Knicks?

Speaker 3 (09:17):
Bawling?

Speaker 8 (09:17):
Yeah, the day after they fired Tibbs Fibbs, it was
Michael Malone was the favorite overwhelmingly. Currently, they have a
bunch of different people, but basically it's Jason Kidd in
the field. That's the DraftKings odds as of this morning.

Speaker 2 (09:31):
Okay, let's take Jason Kidd out of this because that
hinges on the Mavericks giving permission. If there are any
other names in there, I'd be curious. I saw where
Mike Woodson's name surfaced. If you're bringing back Mike Woodson,
is that a plan because it feels like, okay, here's

(09:53):
plan A. We might be going down the alphabet here
with the New York Nicks. Are there any other CA
candidates that are mentioned aside from Jason Kidd.

Speaker 9 (10:03):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (10:03):
They have the assistant coach from the Cavs, Johnny Johnny Bryant. Yes,
and otherwise they don't have any other people because they
took off Jay Wright, they took off Danny Hurley.

Speaker 3 (10:15):
Well, Hurley and Wright. We're never going to do this.
It's wishful thinking. Hey, Danny Hurley grew up a Knicks fan.

Speaker 6 (10:21):
Okay, I think I'm pretty sure the Knicks were on
his short list of teams that he would coach. Yes,
he did say if he's going to do anywhere, it's
going to be like Boston New York. It was going
to be in the Tri state area, close to New Jersey.
The Knicks are very much are probably number one on
that list of teams he would coach.

Speaker 2 (10:41):
But then he did say, oh, I'm not going to
go through this again after what happened with the Lakers.

Speaker 3 (10:47):
He's not ready to do that.

Speaker 2 (10:49):
On a nightly basis with his personality, his temperament. He
might lose five or seven games in a season and
have a hard time with that. You go to New York,
You're gonna lose thirty five games.

Speaker 3 (11:08):
He might not be ready for it, But that doesn't
mean that he wouldn't take at least his wife.

Speaker 2 (11:14):
They would be able to sort of stay in this
area as opposed to going to Los Angeles.

Speaker 3 (11:18):
Yeah, but Jay Wright, Jay Wright Scott. Have you seen
Jay Wright?

Speaker 9 (11:22):
He looks great.

Speaker 3 (11:23):
It looks like a million bucks. It seems relaxed. Yes, yes, Jay.

Speaker 2 (11:27):
Wright is like, wait, what you want me to what?
I've already got a couple of national titles. I'm a
Hall of Fame coach. I'm getting Yes, I want to
lose that. Yes, yes, why do I want this to
go fully gray?

Speaker 10 (11:40):
Yes?

Speaker 8 (11:40):
Well, but if he joined the next he could look
like thirty million bucks.

Speaker 2 (11:44):
Uh no, he's gonna get paid thirty million bucks. He
won't look thirty million bucks.

Speaker 8 (11:49):
Can you image replacing Tibbs with Danny Hurley because Tibbs
is too intense. That's the opposite of the narrative.

Speaker 2 (11:55):
Why don't think Tibbs was too intense as much as
his strategy was, I don't I'm not trust I don't
trust too many players. Therefore they play a lot of minutes.
Players aren't used to be playing a lot of minutes.

Speaker 11 (12:08):
Yes, Mark, Yeah, his reputation is him running his players
into the ground. Allah, Derick Rose, deck Rose got hurt.
They were up by a lot in the playoff game,
and deck Rose is still in the game. ACL Tour.

Speaker 2 (12:21):
By the way, good morning if you're watching on Peacock.
That's our streaming partner. We stumbled upon a storyline comparison
something because these NBA finals lack star power. Let's be
honest here, and then we thought, what are the best
movies without star power? And I think initially we just
came up with the usual suspects because they weren't big names.

(12:45):
Gabriel Byrne, Kevin Spacey, great actors, one of the Baldwin Brothers,
Benisio del Thoro. So you didn't have those Oh who
was the was it Joe Mundane Chess Palmentary? Oh I
get those two mixed up. That's not a good sign

(13:05):
when it comes to star power. If you go smarter,
it helps your case. I know, when they're sitting in
his office.

Speaker 3 (13:14):
I'm smarter than you. I'm smarter than you.

Speaker 8 (13:17):
Yes, that's one of those movies where it's awesome the
first time and then less so as it goes on.
It's still a great movie, but the the shock of
the reveal.

Speaker 3 (13:28):
And he's walking down the street, pulls up the Jaguar.
All of a sudden, the limp goes.

Speaker 5 (13:33):
You go, oh my god, guys, it's so well done.

Speaker 2 (13:45):
You know.

Speaker 3 (13:45):
Gabriel Burns really good in it.

Speaker 8 (13:48):
Yeah, guys, del Toro, with the accent he does, you
can't understand.

Speaker 6 (13:53):
Any mister McManus, Joe and Pittsburgh.

Speaker 3 (14:01):
Hi Joe, what's on your mind today?

Speaker 9 (14:04):
Guys?

Speaker 10 (14:04):
First time caller, six foot three two and thirty pounds.
I got I got two movies to add to the list.
But first, if you guys will let me divulge, can
I give you, guys a crazy stat that will probably
blow all your minds. Okay, So I know earlier we
were talking about Andrew mccutchey, and I heard the game.
He's not Hall of he's Hall of Fame. First off, Now,

(14:25):
all of very good, but also Paul Skimes, all right,
ninety two strikeouts this year one point eight era. His
record is four and six. Did you know that he's
the only player in MLB history to have a sub
two point ohra So thirteen starts with ninety plus strikeouts
and have a losing record. The Pirates, they got to

(14:47):
do something with Paul skiings to the generational talent, and
it's just going to waste the way in Pittsburgh, unfortunately.
I hate to say that. But two movies here that
I can't believe have not been mentioned yet to add
to the list. First and foremost, how about Rocky?

Speaker 3 (15:00):
We mentioned Rocky? Oh okay, yeah, Fritz did.

Speaker 10 (15:04):
How about the Okay? And then how about The Hangover?
Great comedy, A lot of people consider it one of
the best comedies. No one really knew Bradley Cooper at that.

Speaker 2 (15:12):
Time, So, okay, I don't know what other movies Bradley
Cooper did prior to that.

Speaker 8 (15:18):
He did Wedding Crashers where he crushed it as Sack Lootge.

Speaker 2 (15:20):
But he wasn't a big star, No, he was just
really good in that role. Ken Jong was not a
star ed Helms see the Office.

Speaker 11 (15:32):
He was also, Hey, he's that guy in that show.

Speaker 2 (15:34):
Zach Alifanakis's he Noah, Yeah, that was good movie. The
other ones, these subsequent ones were you know when you
watch a movie and you're you're almost watching it with
the people probably put it together, and you're like, I

(15:55):
don't know how this how do we end this thing?

Speaker 3 (15:57):
Like we where are we going?

Speaker 10 (15:59):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (16:00):
We just bring Mike Tyson back in at the end
of the movie.

Speaker 11 (16:03):
Yes, Marvin, the Hangover is the best movie theater experience
I've ever had in my life. I saw it Friday
opening weekend. Really, the place was packed in the laughs,
I mean everyone belly laughing at every joke. It hit
unbelievable experience.

Speaker 2 (16:21):
Okay, all right, more on this best movie without a
star or stars, and Mike Breen will join us take
a break back after this.

that golf course, you better get it today. Mike Breen,
Hall of Fame broadcaster, calling his record extending twentieth NBA
Finals for the mother Ships with Doris Burke. Also Richard Jefferson.

(17:59):
It's the thun in the pacers and somehow he has
the energy to speak to us today, and I'm curious
about that. After you call a game like just you
have to be energetic, enthusiastic on your game mentally.

Speaker 3 (18:14):
How tired are you after a game like last night?

Speaker 14 (18:17):
Well, especially with a game like last night, you're tired
because it's a long day in terms of preparation, but
you can't go to sleep for hours. It's just you're
so wound up. Especially when you see a game that good.
You want to talk about it. You want to talk
with the people you work with. It's hard to fall asleep,
but when you do, you're out. I probably would have

(18:37):
slept till two o'clock this afternoon. Ruined my day.

Speaker 9 (18:40):
Dan.

Speaker 3 (18:42):
Thank you, Mike.

Speaker 2 (18:45):
Have you ever had the Wednslafe time you had the
environment where you can't hear yourself.

Speaker 14 (18:50):
Wow, Well, you can always hear yourself because of the headphones,
but there's often like I couldn't hear the whistle last night.
A few times couldn't hear the whistle And okay, see
a lot of those buildings, it's so loud, and that's
why my hearing is deteriorating as I get older, because
you have to crank up the volume so high in

(19:11):
your headphones to overcome the crowd. Plus they have, you know,
a lot of arenas. Although last night was not necessarily
the case. The music is blaring so loud as well
that it's it's hard on the hearing in terms of
long term hearing. But last night there was only a
couple of times that I just couldn't hear the whistle.
And you're looking for the rest to see if his
hand goes up, to see if a call was made.

Speaker 2 (19:33):
How often do you have sort of a premonition of
what's going to happen or you're planning for the game
to go a certain way?

Speaker 14 (19:42):
Well, every single night, and I think every broadcast team
does this, all right, Who you got tonight?

Speaker 9 (19:48):
Who you got tonight.

Speaker 14 (19:49):
Who you think, And I'll have stretches where I might
get seven or eight in a row like nail it. Oh,
they're going to win big tonight. It's going to be
a close one, but they're not going to be able
to overcome. And then I'll go years without getting a
single prediction.

Speaker 3 (20:02):
Right, what was your prediction for this or last night?

Speaker 9 (20:07):
You know, it's funny, it's funny to say that.

Speaker 14 (20:09):
So I really felt Indiana had a shot in Game one,
didn't think it was going to happen that way, and
then I just I just knew Oklahoma City was gonna
was going to blow them out in Game two. Last night,
I and anybody I spoke to when they asked me
what I think, I said, I have no idea. Indiana
is so unpredictable. They can look like nobody can beat them.

(20:32):
They have stretches where it's which a struggle. So I
had no idea last night going in. But there's just
there's something special going on with that team right now,
that's for sure.

Speaker 2 (20:42):
And Brian Windhors brought this up on ESPN this morning
that with about eight thirty to go in the fourth quarter,
it looked like OKC was a little winded. They were
at the pre throw line. They're holding onto their shorts,
they're bent over. Meanwhile the Pacers are upright there. I
don't know if you got that sense, or Doris or
Richard got that sense of fourth quarter. Indiana has been

(21:04):
the better team in these first three games, no question.

Speaker 14 (21:07):
Richard actually said it on the air last night. He
saw it early on as well. And it's something you
just have never seen both these teams, that they have
thrived on wearing you down. For Indiana, in many cases
their offense is at such a pace by the fourth quarter,
they wear you down. And obviously Oklahoma City, their defense
is something that wears a team down as the game,

(21:29):
not only a game, but as a series goes on.
But that's the first time I've seen the Thunder look
that way. And there's such a confident team Oklahoma City
for a young team, and rightfully so. By the way
they've played, they looked unsure themselves in addition to being fatigued,
and I've never seen that from them.

Speaker 2 (21:47):
But also, if I look at okc's Big three, their
average age is around twenty three. If I look at
the big three for Indiana, their average age might be
twenty seven. I know it's four years, but four years
can be ten years when it comes to experience or
just maturity there. Indiana hasn't been here before where they've
been to the Eastern Conference finals, but to be in

(22:10):
the NBA Finals, and I still wonder about that with
OKC getting over that hump, yes you're ready, feels like
this is a graduation of we lost second round, we
lost in the Eastern Western Conference, now we're in the
NBA Finals. We've seen great teams who graduate to this moment.
I just wonder the maturity of we're asking twenty three

(22:32):
year olds, twenty two year olds to do what the
greats of the game did when they were maybe twenty
seven to twenty eight.

Speaker 14 (22:39):
Man, I could not agree more. You know, the whole
question for them coming in are they ready? Are they
too young? Is this their time? And they have to
prove that and certainly they've proved it so far, and
even in the Denver series, I mean, this series is
far from over. The Denver series, they lose that Harper

(23:00):
Game one, win big Game two, and then they lost
in Game three as well, and then they had a
couple of really close games that were going to be
tested against a Nikola Jokic team, and they passed those tests.
So now Game four is going to be the next
test and we'll see how they do. But there's an
enormous difference in that in terms of twenty three and
twenty seven. And even though last year Indiana they they

(23:22):
got swept in the Eastern Conference finals that I know
this sounds ridiculous, but that was a close sweep. Three
of the games went right down to the final minute.
They played well. They gained valuable experience. Last year in
that Knick series, they were down two to oh, they
were down three to two, won a game seven going away.
I know the Knicks were a little banged up, but

(23:43):
the Pacers have really grown in terms of playoff pressure.
They've seen every possible scenario and they've seen it together.
Continuity is the most underrated part of basketball. To have
the same guys who know their strengths and weaknesses, who've
been through the wars together, and that's what's showing right now.
Indiana they have a little bit more of that than
Oklahoma City does.

Speaker 3 (24:04):
He's Mike Breen.

Speaker 2 (24:05):
He's the play by play host of the NBA Finals
for the twentieth year Hall of Fame broadcaster. If we
had a shooting contest between you, Richard Jefferson, and doors Burke,
who's winning.

Speaker 14 (24:18):
It depends are we shooting free throws? Are we shooting
three pointers? Are we shooting you know? It all depends
on the range.

Speaker 3 (24:25):
How about mid range mid range game? You know, like
SGA range mid range game.

Speaker 9 (24:30):
I'll stack my game up with both of them.

Speaker 14 (24:32):
I've actually challenged Richard to a free throw shooting contest
and he says he.

Speaker 9 (24:37):
Wants to do it, but he's never really be.

Speaker 14 (24:42):
Any idea in terms of trying to set a particular
day first to do it.

Speaker 9 (24:46):
I think he's afraid of me, quite honestly.

Speaker 2 (24:48):
Well, he has everything to lose, Mike, Yes he does. Yes, Yes,
yes he does. Your full time job is the Knicks broadcaster.
Can you tell me what the Knicks are doing with
their head CoA coaching search.

Speaker 14 (25:02):
Well, they're obviously turning over every stone right now, and
that's you know, there's a lot of good candidates still
out there. It's been interesting to see how many teams
have quickly said, no, you cannot talk to our coach.
Although that's understandable, all under contract and at this point,
I think Dan, they can take their time. It's not

(25:25):
like I mean, there's a lot of stup coaches out there.
I think they can talk to but there's no need
to rush it now. They really need to do their homework,
talk to people, talk not only to the candidates, but
people who play for the candidates, and do an exhaustive
search because there's no need to rush it now.

Speaker 9 (25:42):
It's such an important decision.

Speaker 3 (25:45):
If you fire your coach. Did you have a successful season?

Speaker 1 (25:50):
Wow?

Speaker 14 (25:51):
That's an interesting way to put it. I think so
I do. I think they had a very successful season.
They've taken the next step. I was certainly surprised at
Tom Thibodaux being let go from a standpoint of success
and results. It's hard to say why, but clearly there

(26:12):
was stuff behind the scenes that were going on that
they felt it was time to make a change. But yes,
it was a very successful season in my opinion.

Speaker 2 (26:20):
Didn't you get criticized that you didn't give Tyre's Halliburton
a bang because it was a mid range jumper or
one of three? I should say, like, is that your
policy that it's got to be a three for a bang?

Speaker 9 (26:33):
Well, I haven't checked the rules and regulations and the policy.

Speaker 14 (26:38):
I think the warranty on the policy is out, but
there's really no Sometimes it's a feel. In many cases
it's I preferred on a three pointer on this particular play,
he was moving so quickly. Also sometimes too, I like
doing it on a home team big bucket.

Speaker 9 (26:58):
Because the crowd overtakes it.

Speaker 14 (26:59):
That's one of the reasons I started yelling Bank because
I needed a concise call when the crowd overwhelms everything.
But that was just more of you know, this is
an unbelievable finish. He has a chance to win, and
that's the way it came out. But yes, I received criticism.
I'd been attacked, but it's all part.

Speaker 3 (27:19):
Have you ranked your bang calls?

Speaker 14 (27:22):
Oh damn no, hope you start to ask me that, No,
I have not ranked, But that's that's for the viewers
to rank the Bank calls.

Speaker 2 (27:30):
I can't do because I would say, Steph Curry, I
thought that that one. What was that the forty footer
that he hit it against Okase That I think that
kind of started it. But I also Ray Allen Game
six of the twenty thirteen NBA Finals, where does that

(27:51):
bang me?

Speaker 14 (27:53):
In this discussion yeah, yeah, No, the Curry thing, I
was the first double bang, and that was that was
it was a special time. It was everything that led
up to it, and I would agree with that's That's
one of my favorites. Three Allen one is is clearly
as well because he doesn't hit that. The changes who
wins the title that year. Playoff ones are special to me.

(28:14):
Derek Rose hit a game winner in Chicago for the
Bulls in a playoff game against Lebron. Jeremy Lynn had
a couple of great bangs that that that were really
exciting during two and a half weeks to some of
the most fun games I've ever been a part of.
So there's been there's been a decent amount that I've enjoyed.

Speaker 3 (28:36):
Will there ever be a triple bang? Mike stop?

Speaker 2 (28:42):
I want John record? Will there be? What would what
would bring about a triple bang?

Speaker 14 (28:49):
I think I think I would sound like an idiot
if I did a triple bang. But again, it's not premeditated.
The double bank came out naturally. It just was so exciting.
So maybe in a five finals game, if a guy
hits a three pointer at the buzzer to win a
finals game and to win a championship.

Speaker 9 (29:07):
That's the possibility.

Speaker 2 (29:08):
How about that tyrese Aliburton game on the line and
he hits a three and they win the title.

Speaker 14 (29:18):
I have no choice but to do it then, Okay,
I'm under severe pressure to do it.

Speaker 9 (29:23):
Then.

Speaker 3 (29:25):
Now I'm going to watch the finals and pressure.

Speaker 9 (29:29):
You know, now, this is unforgivable what you're doing.

Speaker 3 (29:32):
How does pressure feel, Mike?

Speaker 9 (29:36):
It doesn't feel very good.

Speaker 1 (29:39):
Are you going to do?

Speaker 3 (29:40):
You rest your voice today?

Speaker 5 (29:42):
I do?

Speaker 3 (29:42):
Like what do you do today?

Speaker 9 (29:45):
I drink a lot of tea with honey.

Speaker 14 (29:48):
I actually I don't talk on the phone because I
had an ears, nose and throat. Guy tell me that
when my voice is struggling, don't talk on the phone
because people tend to talk louder on the phone.

Speaker 9 (30:00):
I was not aware of that. Are you aware of that?

Speaker 10 (30:03):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (30:03):
If you've ever been on a plane when somebody lands
and then they're getting a hold of somebody who's going
to pick them up, listen to how loud that person is.

Speaker 3 (30:11):
Yeah, just landed.

Speaker 14 (30:13):
Okay, don't agreement. Hold on a second, I have a call. Okay,
I'll call you later.

Speaker 2 (30:21):
See but whatever, if there's problems with you and your
wife and you don't get on the phone and you
want a text. I understand that, I mean, but that's
that's that's on you, Mike. I don't need to hear that.

Speaker 9 (30:32):
I can use it. Yeah, I could use it to
my advantage.

Speaker 3 (30:36):
Yes, I'm an Ah the voice. I'll text you. I'll
text you.

Speaker 2 (30:42):
Great to talk to you again. Thanks for thanks for
joining us, Mike, Bang bring or bang bang or Bang
Bang Bang Bring? Next game coming up on Friday night, Indianapolis.
I haven't seen the point sprints. Do we have numbers here? DraftKings?

(31:03):
Can you send me the point spreads for Friday night?
Please take a break. Phone calls. More phone calls coming
up after this.

Speaker 1 (31:09):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan
Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 2 (31:19):
If you're watching on Peacock, we just showed you a
portion of an interview with Mike Love, lead singer of
the Beach Boys. Brian Wilson, the founder of the Beach Boys,
passed away yesterday and there were so many different books, documentaries,
articles written on Brian. They all seem to focus on

(31:39):
him being like this mad genius and probably is an
apt description of him. I love the fact that he
put sand underneath his piano in his living room when
he was writing music for the Beach Boys. He wanted
that feel of the beach and he put sand underneath
his piano. But also he came up with pet Sounds,

(32:02):
and if you are not familiar with the Beach Boys,
listen to the sound of the of pet Sounds, because
that helped bring about something new. It changed music because
it's technically everything about it is, you know, one of
the top five albums I think of all time in
rock and roll music. But it also changed the Beatles

(32:24):
because the Beatles were you know, hold my hand, she
loves you, Yeah, yeah, yeah, And then all of a
sudden it spawned the uh Sergeant Peppers. McCartney realized, oh
my goodness, we have to we have to change, we
have to up our game, and that brought about Sergeant

(32:45):
Peppers and it changed music, changed music history with that album.
And then you know there The story was that Brian
went crazy after that because he thought he had created
the perfect album and realized the Beatles just won uped him.

Speaker 3 (33:00):
Like a year later, It's like, wait a minute, what
did they do?

Speaker 2 (33:04):
Also a lot of tributes to sli in the Family Stone,
and which is great because they were They were before
everybody when you look at that style, that sound, whether
it's Parliament, George Clinton, whether it's Prince, this was sli
in the Family Stone before them, and just listened to

(33:28):
like there's organ bass, like there's some real great, great
sounds with sly and the Family Stone. But you'll see
a lot of tribute videos and they have to do
with Prince because Prince acknowledged that he understood what was
going on and paid tribute to sli in the Family
Stone with redoing some of their songs, and really that's

(33:51):
not what Prince did. Prince would write songs and people
would try to do a cover of Prince song as
opposed to the other way around. But Slyne the Family
Stone and Brian Wilson, it's just people are put on
this earth for things, and that's what they were put
on this earth for. Brian Wilson was put on this
earth to hear these sounds and put these sounds down

(34:15):
on an album and the harmonies and he drove you
know the rest of the Beach Boys crazy where he
was looking for that perfect harmony. It had to be
you know the sound of this, and if you listen
to Slide the family Stone when he was doing it,
when they were doing it.

Speaker 3 (34:33):
It's just it's different. They were different.

Speaker 6 (34:37):
Yes, there are, you know, like when somebody like that dies,
a lot of tributes come out, and there's like artists
after artists right now who would post about Brian Wilson
saying like he made me do the vocals for this
song sixty times because he was hearing something that I
just wasn't hearing, and like I was doing it as
good as I could, but it still wasn't good enough
for him until finally it was. And then you're like, wow,

(34:58):
he heard that, and that like I can't hear that
at all, and we do the same thing.

Speaker 2 (35:02):
You know, Yeah, to be able to hear something so small,
so minute, but so important to that person.

Speaker 9 (35:10):
You know.

Speaker 2 (35:10):
Clint Eastwood famously doesn't have many takes on his movie set.
It might be two you go okay, whether and then
there'll be other directors will be like, let's do it again,
Well that's forty takes. But they're looking for something, they're
listening for something, and that, you know, that separates a
lot of people from being You're really good to your genius.

Speaker 8 (35:33):
Yeah, pull one of the best songs from Pet Sounds.
That song God Only Knows. I'm not gonna try to
sing it, you know it from the end of Boogie Knights.
They do that long montage to end Boogie Knights and
God Only Knows as a song in there, and it's
just perfect for that film.

Speaker 2 (35:47):
Just listen to the harmonies. And there was competition between
the Beatles and the Beach Boys. Now you wouldn't think it,
but there there were, because they were pop sounds. You know,
the Beatles were popping and then all of a sudden,
I mean that's what separates them from everybody else. That
if one direction or one of these boy bands all

(36:07):
of a sudden did Helter Skelter or Sergeant Pepper Magical
Mystery Tour. I mean, all of the music that they created,
it was Yeah, we can be the biggest pop band
in the world.

Speaker 3 (36:21):
We can also do that, and nobody else can do that.

Speaker 2 (36:24):
But Pet Sounds, it's widely considered one of the top
five albums of all time rock and roll. Rolling Stone
usually has it top five, but they varied where I
think one year they had Marvin Gaye's What's Going On
as the number one rock and roll album of all time. Now,
I love Marvin gay but I wouldn't consider that the

(36:47):
number one album of all time. And then I think
the Beatles were on there, and maybe one of the
other ones, but they tend to come out every twenty
years where they rank the top five hundred songs of
all time.

Speaker 3 (36:58):
Yes, Marv, and I know how you love list.

Speaker 2 (37:01):
Yeah yeah, yeah, well okay. What really set me off is,
thanks for bringing it up, Marvin. Is when the Mothership
was looking for the greatest college player of all time,
and that had Michael Jordan is the greatest college basketball
player of all time, And I go, that's embarrassing. I mean,

(37:25):
great player. He wasn't the best player on his own team.
He did hit a shot to win a national title.
But there Kareem Louel Sendor's greatest college player of all time.
Christian Latner is ahead of Michael Jordan. And I'm not
talking talent, I'm talking about resume. Mike was a great talent,

(37:50):
but he was an unknown talent. But to have Michael
as the greatest college basketball player of all time, that
was for clicks. And then that even Michael would tell
you he's not the best college basketball player of all time.

Speaker 8 (38:05):
Yes, pony, I have that Rolling Stone list from twenty
twenty three, five hundred greatest albums. You want the top
ten quickly?

Speaker 3 (38:13):
How many Beatles are in there? Three?

Speaker 8 (38:16):
I got a Bob Dylan. I got a Prince checking
my computer's freezing off, of course.

Speaker 2 (38:24):
So Dylan is in there for like a Rolling Stone, Yes, okay, Prince.

Speaker 8 (38:30):
The Miseducation of Lauren Hill Lauren Hill ten great album, Fleetwood,
Mac Rumors, Yeah, yeah, Nirvana, never Mind, the Beatles, Abbey Road,
Stevie Wonders, Songs in the Key of Life, No Objections,
Joni Mitchell, Blue the Beach, The Beach Boys, Pet Sounds

(38:53):
is two, and Marvin Gay's What's going On is number one.

Speaker 2 (38:56):
Yeah, love Marvin Gay, absolutely great. Him and Sam Cook
two of my favorite artists. Great vocals. All right, Drew
in California, Hi, Drew, what's on your mind?

Speaker 15 (39:12):
Good morning, gentlemen, Thanks for taking my call a long time,
first time, six one, two twenty. For a great movie
with zero stars, my choice is Breaking Away nineteen seventy nine.
It was low budget and it got nominated for the Academy.

Speaker 9 (39:32):
Award for that year.

Speaker 15 (39:34):
Starringwall was kind of a nobody Dennis Christopher who didn't
get very big, but it had some young, totally unknown
actors like Dennis Quaid and Daniel Stern, and probably the
biggest star of the at the time was the guy
who played Kelly Leak in The Battens Bears, Jackie Earl Haley.

Speaker 3 (39:51):
Yeah, good call.

Speaker 2 (39:52):
There by the way, the thunder favored by six coming
up on Friday Night fell in Iowa ill.

Speaker 9 (40:02):
One.

Speaker 16 (40:06):
My movie selection is going to be Scream. I'm going
back to the Slashers. You got Drew Barrymore in the
opening scene. You have Nev Campbell and Courtney.

Speaker 15 (40:13):
Cox, David Arquette before he was.

Speaker 16 (40:16):
Than anything big that I remember, and Matthew Lillard. And
then on the Brian Wilson subject, the Bare Naked Ladies
did a song called Brian Wilson. They'll probably make you
smile if you haven't heard it.

Speaker 2 (40:28):
Oh cool, no, thank you. When I was around the
bar Naked Ladies, they were wonderful guys. They had no
idea who I was, but they were really wonderful people
and just in the moment having a great time. See
would you update the poll results up in his second

(40:48):
hour of the program.

Speaker 17 (40:49):
Heck, yeah, let's see who do you have winning the
finals right now? The NBA Finals, to be more precise,
of two options, the pacers in the thunder that is ats.

Speaker 3 (41:01):
What is it with that recency buys? Yeah, I think
it should be higher.

Speaker 6 (41:05):
The recent you do, the bias should be higher, And.

Speaker 3 (41:11):
That seems kind of crazy to me. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (41:14):
I mean, well, the fact that Fritzy's now taking the pacers,
you would think that that would have some people be
a little leery.

Speaker 3 (41:19):
Pacers and seven Yeah, I forgot about that. Yeah, you
can't change, Todd. You made a prediction thunder and sixth.

Speaker 4 (41:25):
Now I feel like it's pacers and seven.

Speaker 9 (41:28):
Biers.

Speaker 5 (41:31):
God only knows how I feel.

Speaker 3 (41:36):
We're not going to do that.

Speaker 10 (41:38):
For a while.

Speaker 11 (41:39):
Yeah, yeah, God, only.

Speaker 2 (41:45):
Two hours in the books. One more to go, Todd, Marvin, Paulie, Satan, yours.
Truly we're back after this
