Can you tell the difference between actual news and viral fiction? In this episode of Real News or Fake News, the team tests their BS detectors on headlines that sound too ridiculous to be true—but some of them are. From teens stealing a subway train after watching a movie, to a face "tattoo" that warns you when you're mentally fried, to a real-life church formed by people who believe ChatGPT is God… things get weird.

Plus: A fake lawsuit over an "ugly baby" fools the internet, and the team debates whether plastic surgery counts as genetic fraud.

This segment proves that the truth really is stranger than fiction.

The Jewel Show.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Elon Musk has offered Donald Trump free Twitter premium if
he stops calling him the space dweeb in public.

Speaker 1 (00:11):
It's the Jewel Show. Never that could actually be a
real news headline. Good. Yeah, it's stranger that it is,
but it's not. I just made that one up.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
See how easy it is to make up fake news?
And that's why every single week we bring you the
geniusly named segment Real News or Fake News, where you
can test your skills and see if you can tell
what's a real news story and what's a fake news story.
I read a news headline from a new story that's
gone viral this week, and you have to see if
you can tell whether it's a fake one or a
real one.

Speaker 1 (00:39):
Okay, here we go.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
First news headline for real news or fake news. Teenagers
watch Teen Bandits, a movie about a subway heist, and
still a subway train the next day to reenact the movie.

Speaker 1 (00:50):
Is that real or fan? Gosh, I'm gonna go with real.
How are you gonna steal a subway train? I don't know.
They figured it out while watching the movie.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
Oh that's yeah, can that work?

Speaker 1 (01:00):
I don't know. That's why I think Victoria. What do
you think it's a real or fake?

Speaker 2 (01:04):
Teenagers watch teen band It's, a movie about a subway heist,
and steal a subway train the next day to reenact
the movie. Is that a real new story or fake news?

Speaker 1 (01:12):
Real? Real?

Speaker 2 (01:14):
Will to reels producer Brad Teenagers watch teen Bandits, a
movie about a subway heist, and steal a subway train
the next day to reenact the movie.

Speaker 4 (01:23):
Everybody knows the subway trains don't always work all the time,
and this would be very unlikely. I'm going to say
the story is fake.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
You're saying fake this is a real news story.

Speaker 3 (01:34):
The battle.

Speaker 2 (01:34):
This week, two teenagers in Queens, New York, hopped aboard
an unattended Our Line subway train, took control of it,
hit speeds up to thirty miles per hour, and then
collided with another train and built it on foot.

Speaker 1 (01:46):
They were later arrested.

Speaker 4 (01:47):
Oh no, yeah, they weren't any driving instructions in the movie.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
O gosh, the same thing. They were like, how do
we drive this? I don't know. They didn't do that
in the movie. They just knew how quick. YouTube wait,
there's no.

Speaker 2 (01:59):

you're mentally overloaded. New face tattoo can tell you when
you should take breaks or are mentally overloaded? Is that
a real news story or a fake news story.

Speaker 3 (02:32):
I'm gonna go with fake, but this might not be
a bad idea.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
What I'm gonna go with fake? You know, with fake
produce bad.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
New face tattoos can tell you when you should take
breaks or are mentally overloaded? Is that a real news
story or a fake news story?

Speaker 4 (02:48):
Unfortunately, because personal responsibility has completely gone out the window
and nobody knows how to take care of themselves without
someone on TikTok telling them this is a real news story.
Because you need to be slapped on the head with
it something.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
Yeah, yeah, this is a real news story created the
e tattoo. It's a face tattoo. It's not really a tattoo,
though it looks like a tattoo. There are electrodes that
go over your face. It looks like a face tattoo.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
Is it perpetent.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
No, you can take it on and off, but it
can tell you where you're mentally overloaded or we you
should take a break. They say it's good for pilots
and stuff like that. So if next flight you're on
and there's a pilot who looks like post malone, don't
be like, oh great, we're gonna die. Be like, oh cool,
he's got the tattoo. You'll know if he needs to
take a.

Speaker 1 (03:33):

or fake news?

slipped those in and this is a breach of contract.
This is a real news story.

This is actually a fake news story, but people were
freaking out when they read it. The new story said
a man found out his wife cheated and allegedly sued
his wife for genetic fraud after she gave birth to
an unattractive baby. This story was fabricated, and of course
people were freaking out online.

Speaker 1 (04:53):
God, we think he was real.

This was a real story years ago though, because the
woman had plastic surgery, she had had her nose done
and so something else done on her face and so
when the baby came out, the dad said the baby
was ugly, and he also sued but did win because
it was like she lied about what she really looked
like and the baby got her old nose.
