Speaker 2 (00:05):
How you feeling there, Chilliam are good?
Speaker 3 (00:08):
How are you feeling there?
Speaker 2 (00:10):
I'm glad that I took yesterday off to sleep because
after that marathon drive back from Boston, moving my kid
back from college because now she's, you know, a graduate,
she's technically done with her major instruction and everything. I've
got to tell you, my body just was like, so
(00:31):
yesterday it rained, its good sleeping weather, and I slept
and slept and slept, and now I'm up. But I'm
glad she's back home. I'm glad she's essentially done, and
I'm gonna miss that drive. Not really, I'm not.
Speaker 3 (00:51):
Really welcome back to Toby and Chilly in the morning.
Speaker 2 (00:54):
Right on at ninety seven point one Wash FM. So
why are you feeling good today?
Speaker 4 (00:58):
I'm feeling good because, honestly, my husband took care of
all the dog walking yesterday. I didn't have to do
the going out in the rain. There was zero break,
zero break for dog walking.
Speaker 5 (01:12):
Yes.
Speaker 4 (01:13):
Yeah, like the day before, there were moments where we
could go outside and not get soaking wet. So it's
the little things, right, I'm just glad I didn't have
to deal with the torrential rain.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
Right because rain and dogs doing what dogs do just
equals mess.
Speaker 4 (01:26):
Thankfully, we have a dog that does her business quickly, right,
because some dogs they don't care what the weather is.
They'll be like do do do do do? I'm just
gonna take my time.
Speaker 2 (01:36):
That's my significant other's golden He's too busy looking at
other things, smelling everything, doing thing. Then by the time
he wants to go, it's like whoa.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
And I and nobody likes wet dog smell.
Speaker 4 (01:49):
No, So we have to do the whole drying her
off and spring her with the dry shampoo for dogs
and all this other stuff after every walk.
Speaker 2 (01:57):
Yep, anyway, but it's all good. But there's not much
we wouldn't do for our dogs. That's you have a
partner that you tagged in with and that is great. Yeah,
hopefully you're doing well this morning. Eight sixty six nine
two seven forty three sixty one is the number. You
can also tap talk back and tell us how you're doing.

Lyle and Eric Menendez have been re sentenced to fifty
years to life for the nineteen eighty nine murders of
their parents. Now, after over thirty years in prison, their
lawyers argued they've been rehabilitated, so this new sentence makes
them eligible for parole. A federal judge in Pennsylvania rule
that President Trump can use the Alien Enemies Act to
(02:59):
do pour alleged members of foreign terrorist groups. However, immigrants
must be given at least twenty one days notice. This
decision conflicts with other rulings that say the President lacks
this authority. A trip to Ocean City, Maryland could take
you a little bit more time this summer, as repairs
will continue on the eighty three year old bridge that
carries Root fifty traffic into the downtown area, So they're

going to be laying closures weekdays between four am and
eleven am. At a recent town hall in Prince George's County.
Parents spoke out about the urgent need for better mental
health support for kids, and local leaders admitted that there
is a shortage of resources, especially pediatric psychiatric beds, and

promised change is coming. DMV residents are bracing for a
very loud summer.

start to emerge when the soil temperature reaches the mid
sixties after spending seventeen years underground, and Pete Rose now

How are you doing this morning? How is your head space?
Coming up? In just a few minutes, some words of
wisdom from people in thought leadership from the Internet of
Things that hopefully will help you to turn your day
around if it's not going so swimmingly well. Your morning
mindset in just minutes. It is ninety seven point one
(04:43):
wash FM. You're waking up with Toby and Chili in
the morning. Thank you so much for making us a
part of your early morning as we check in with
you and your headspace.
Speaker 4 (04:53):
And this is where we share a quote to get
you into a better morning mindset as you start a
new day.
Speaker 2 (04:57):
And on this Wednesday, the fourteenth of May, Mark Manson,
who's a thought leader motivational speaker, reminds us that you
are who you are is defined by what you're willing
to struggle for. Who you are is defined by what
you're willing to struggle for. Now, what does that mean?
What is Mark Manson trying to say? Means that your
(05:19):
challenges reveal your real values, not just your goals, but
your real values. Go through those challenges, they define you,
Mark Manson. And if that helped, and we hope that
it did, you might want to share it with somebody
else who needs it. You can find us on the
Toby and chilipage at washchefm dot com. Reach out to
Chilian or myself and we'll be happy to send you
(05:42):
this morning's morning mindset because you know what, sometimes it
does take all of us to get into the right headspace.
It is ninety seven point one wash CHFM, Toby and
Chilly in the morning. We're coming up in just a
few minutes.
Speaker 4 (05:55):
We want to talk about what makes a book or
article fun for you to read? More and more people
turning to chat GPT. It really is taking the human
equation out of a lot of this writing.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
That is very true. And by the way, well we'll
just get to it coming up next, so stay with
it tilby Untillian in the morning, it is ninety seven
point one wash FM. In this world where chat GPT
is responsible for so many things, from term papers to
final papers and final exam papers to even books, what
(06:29):
is it that makes an actual book written by a
person right or an article written by a person fun
to read? The numbers eight sixty six, ninety seven forty
three sixty one. If you want to jump into our
conversation this morning, please feel free to do so.
Speaker 4 (06:45):
In the article I read, it said professors can tell
the difference because there doesn't seem to be a human
connection when students try to cheat and use chat GPT right.
Speaker 3 (06:55):
Funny enough, the reason I love.
Speaker 4 (06:57):
A book is because of the character development and the
relatability of that character, So I would agree with that.
Speaker 2 (07:05):
I'm with you, but my reasons are a bit different. See,
I just don't see chat GPT as being very inspiring.
I think the human equation can't be replaced, nor can
you put it in an algorithm. And what is Chad
GPT going to teach me that I can't learn in
a book written by a human being from their own perspective?
You know what I mean? You don't see chat GPT
(07:27):
as Mel Robbins. Do you know you don't inspiring in
that way?
Speaker 3 (07:31):
Right?
Speaker 2 (07:32):
Chat GPT is good for a lot of things, making
something fun to read, not so much to Leah in Fairfax.
What do you have to add to this?
Speaker 5 (07:41):
It sounds like the writer's actually having fun while writing it.
I'm it add a little voice, some unexpected humor and
something I don't see coming, and I'll read the whole
thing without even realize I skipped lunch.
Speaker 4 (07:53):
You skip lunch. Sometimes I skip a nap and then
I hate myself for it.
Speaker 2 (07:57):
Do you really do you find that you yourself in books?
Speaker 5 (08:01):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (08:01):
Ecxent if it's a really good book, absolutely.
Speaker 2 (08:05):
I miss that. I miss having that kind of time
to be able to do that. Hey, everyone in silver spring,
good morning. What makes a book or an article fun
to read? When articles just get.
Speaker 5 (08:18):
To the point right away, Like I can't stand when
articles resave the title four or five paragraphs in a
row just to get you to stay on the page longer.
Speaker 2 (08:28):
Just get to the point.
Speaker 4 (08:29):
That is an excellent point. It is so annoying when
they're trying to increase their engagement by doing that, they
end up losing readers.
Speaker 2 (08:38):
Is it spammy to you?
Speaker 3 (08:39):
It feels very spammy.
Speaker 2 (08:41):
Very spammy, this engagement.
Speaker 3 (08:43):
We need a payoff. Darn it. Well.
Speaker 2 (08:44):
In that note, I'm gonna get to the point. Just
say Toby and Chili stops stories. That's the news and
it's next.
Speaker 1 (08:52):
Top Stories, Top of the Hour.
Speaker 4 (08:54):

the early weeks of the war. Doctors are evaluating former

a new acting US attorney. Fox News host Jennine Piro
will be sworn in by the Justice Department officials today.
Montgomery County police asking for help and identifying a man
who died after jumping from a Silver Spring parking garage

over the weekend. He had no ID and authorities have
shared his photo online. Flash flooding in western Maryland yesterday
forced the evacuation of Western Port Elementary School. Emergency crews
used votes to rescue about one hundred and fifty students
and fifty staff members in fifteen trips. Another other elementary
(10:00):
school was evacuated and a middle school sheltered in place.
We'll get your passports ready, Washington Commander's fans, in case
you didn't hear. Week eleven will be in Spain. The
team is going to be facing the Miami Dolphins in
Madrid on Sunday, November sixteenth, and the FDA announced plans

to begin removing prescription fluoride for kids from the market
amid rising concerns about its safety. Fluoride is commonly used
in water systems, toothpaste and mouth rinses to prevent tooth decay.
Forecast today cloudy skies with a chance of afternoon showers
and thunderstorms. Highs in the low to mid seventies right
(10:43):
now sixty one in Bowie.
Speaker 2 (10:45):
Well, Toby and Chilly in the morning. You get top
stories at the top of the hour. That's what we
call the news. And in just minutes. Over the weekend,
I was in Boston. My daughter graduated from Emerson College,
a place she began four years ago, and I can't
believe that it's been four years. So I'll share some thoughts.
I'll kind of recap the adventure that was her graduation.
(11:08):
That's on the way in just minutes. Stay right there
at six point twenty five on this Wednesday, May fourteenth,
it's ninety seven point one wash FM, Toby and Chilly
in the morning. Thank you for waking up with us today.
And it feels good to be back from Buston. And
over the weekend, it was Mother's Day weekend, but on
Mother's Day was Kyla's commencement at Emerson College.
Speaker 3 (11:30):
So your daughter has graduated college. Has it hit you yet?
Speaker 2 (11:35):
Well, I'm kind of standing still. I think I feel
a bit melancholy about it all because that chapter, the
Emerson chapter is now done. And I'm glad that she
did it at Emerson, which is a school that really
nurtures people to be bold with their voice, and it
nurtures brave storytellers. And I'm you know, I'm thankful that
(11:56):
she is the first person and her family, out of
her mom and I to actually complete the task that
she started to do. Her mom and I both left
you know, college for radio, the idea that radio is
a great idea. So I feel this joy watching her
across the stage and getting her you know, they give
you the little what's it called, They give you the
(12:16):
thing that the diploma goes in, but they don't give
you the diploma in there, yeah, anymore, just because of
time with that many people.
Speaker 4 (12:23):
So is she back home with you now? She is
she looking for like, do you know what her next
steps are yet?
Speaker 2 (12:29):
N I don't. We haven't really talked about it, I
think because I'm still kind of standing, still soaking it
all in, you know, and I think she's kind of
you know, still soaking it all in, you know. And
when we were leaving Boston, I could sense that she
was a bit you know.
Speaker 4 (12:47):
Well, it's a chapter from her too. It is sad,
it's bittersweet, It's very bitter sweet.
Speaker 2 (12:53):
Right, she wanted to go say goodbye to some friends,
but she knew we needed to get out of there
to get back and yeah, and yeah, I think overall though,
I feel hopeful because I know that she's done something special,
She's overcome challenges to get to where she is with
something special, and I know that deep down she's just
getting started. So that's kind of you know, my take
(13:16):
on the graduation, But it just there's something to be
said when you see your kid crossing a stage, finishing
something like that, knowing that you didn't do the same thing.
Speaker 3 (13:26):
It's a huge milestone for sure, it is, and a
reason to be proud.
Speaker 2 (13:30):
It is, And remind me of that when it comes
time to, like, you know, next year, when I'm still
paying off the studios.
Speaker 3 (13:38):
College tuition, hand it off to her when she gets
a job.
Speaker 2 (13:43):
Now, I'm really finish. Now I'm really melancholy.
Speaker 1 (13:47):
Shelby and Chilly's nearly impossible question.

Yes.
Speaker 2 (15:20):
Do you ever notice that in the workplace, because we do.
Speaker 4 (15:22):
I used to when I was working.
Speaker 2 (15:24):
Yes.
Speaker 4 (15:24):
What you're also doing is trying to avoid talking to people,
so it gives them the impression that you don't have time.
Speaker 3 (15:31):
Walking fast is the answer. Bill, Congratulations, Thank you very much. Jolly,
I'm glad to hear that.

With Toby and Chilly in the morning. You get top
stories at the top of the hour that would be
the news and coming up. We'd love to share some
grad advice with you. Over the weekend, we were talking
about how I was in Boston at my daughter's commencement ceremony,
the graduation from Emerson and Jennifer Coolidge, who you might
know from White Lotus Stiffler's mom. She was the commencement
(18:29):
speaker and she had some interesting advice to give, share
some tidbits, and then we'd love to hear what your
grad advice might be. The numbers eight sixty six, ninety seven,
forty three sixty one. Talkback also works if you want
to just tap speak and send it. Hit up Chili
and I with a quick voice note. If you're sunning
into your iheartupp you can do that. We'll get to
that in minutes with Toby and Chilli. And it feels
(18:51):
good to be back in this studio with you because
it's not that car where I was trapped Chilli for
hours and hours on end. It's ninety seven point one CHEFM.
Were Toby and Chilly in the morning, a drive from Boston.
You were right earlier, not gonna miss it.
Speaker 4 (19:06):
No, but your daughter graduated from Emerson and I know
that Jennifer Coolidge was the commencement speaker. Did she give
any nuggets of advice that you thought was really good
for the graduating class.
Speaker 2 (19:18):
Yes. Here are a couple of highlights from a speech
that you could see on the Toby and Chilipage at
waschefm dot com.
Speaker 6 (19:25):
You just have to have insane expectations and believe they're
going to come true. When you find the thing that
you want to do, just frigging go for it.
Speaker 3 (19:37):
You really have.
Speaker 6 (19:38):
To psyite yourself up into bleeding absurd possibilities and.
Speaker 1 (19:42):
You have to believe that they are not absurd.
Speaker 2 (19:45):
I was really moved by the insane possibilities, absurd ideas
that aren't absurd. I think for a woman who's got
a career renaissance that's in effect right now after the
Minecraft movie and then of course Why Lotus and all
of those awards.
Speaker 4 (20:02):
She's definitely had a very eclectic career, so advice coming
from her, I'm sure was very well received.
Speaker 2 (20:08):
It did seem well received by the student body, and
I think most of the people who are there, because
you know, it's Jennifer Coolidge. She's really on top of
her game right now. That begs the question, if you
were going to be in the role of Jennifer Coolidge
giving some grad advice, what would it be eight six, six, nine, two, seven,
forty three sixty one. What advice would you offer to
(20:29):
the graduates of twenty twenty five.
Speaker 4 (20:32):
Because we are in the midst of graduation season for
both college and high school.
Speaker 2 (20:36):
We look forward to hearing and sharing the advice that
you have to give on the way. As Toby and
Chilly in the Morning continue Top stories Top of the Hour.
Speaker 4 (20:46):

Fox News host Jeanine Piro will be sworn in by

a middle school had to shelter in place. At a
recent Ward seven town hall, many DC residents voiced opposition
(21:51):

included racial equity, community displacement, and skeptic about promise to

plan this summer. While it hub took a look at
which American destinations are going to be popular this summer,

you eat your ice cream reveals your personality traits. Biting

Do you have a chance of an afternoon shower or thunderstorm?
Highs around seventy two Right now it's sixty two in Fairfax.

Coming up next with Toby and chilly in the morning.
Do you have any advice if you were to give

us a call tell us what that advice is, or
you can feel free to use the talk back microphone.
If you're signed in, you can using your Iheartup. You've
(23:12):
got to be signed into your app. Tap. That's a
circ that microphone inside the red circle. Send us a
quick voice note it'll come to Chili and I hear
in the studio. We can't wait to hear. What's your
advice for these grads would be coming up? What's Toby
and Chilly in the morning. That is your advice for
the graduating class of twenty twenty five. Toby and Chilly

We want to hear from you this morning.
Speaker 3 (23:39):
It is graduation season.
Speaker 4 (23:41):
Toby's daughter just graduated from Emerson this past weekend. My
niece is graduating from UVA in a couple of days.
Speaker 2 (23:50):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (23:50):
We thought this.
Speaker 4 (23:51):
Would be a great time to share this with the
class of twenty twenty five.
Speaker 2 (23:54):
And that's where you come in Selena and Georgetown. Good morning,
don't feel.
Speaker 4 (23:58):
The need to rush in to the perfect job or
the perfect relationship.
Speaker 1 (24:03):
Take it easy and enjoy that time, have fun.
Speaker 3 (24:06):
Selene, thanks so much for the call.
Speaker 4 (24:08):
There really is a lot of pressure for these kids
to figure it out right now.
Speaker 2 (24:13):
There is, and you know what, we're responsible for that pressure,
I think seriously, because it's like, if I ask my
daughter again, what are you going to do with a
creative writing degree, I'm sure she's gonna try to put
my head into the wall. She's got time to figure
it out, and then she'll write a story about it creatively.
Why put my dad's head into the wall in Deira
(24:34):
in Rosslyn. What advice would you give to the graduates
of twenty twenty five, Oh.
Speaker 5 (24:39):
Man, I would say, save your money.
Speaker 3 (24:43):
You need to save at least ten twenty dollars a day.
Speaker 2 (24:46):
I wish I would did it.
Speaker 5 (24:47):
I'll be a millionaire by now. You know. I took
out credit card loans and just wraped it up with crazy.
Speaker 4 (24:52):
Sound advice and Deira. Now, if you'll excuse me, I
gotta go pay my credit card bill.
Speaker 2 (24:57):
Yes, and I have college tuition due. I'll be delivering
for door Dash later on today.
Speaker 1 (25:04):
