Toby and Chili Mornings on Demand on ninety seven point
one wash Out.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
Back from the weekend. It's ninety seven point one WASHFM.
We're Toby a Chile in the morning. You know it
feels good before five, knowing that. Over the weekend, I
had a movie date with my daughter, who is a
college graduate.

Speaker 3 (00:17):
We went to see Thunderbolts.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
We've both already seen it, but you know how it
is not together you didn't well, we didn't see it
together originally, but you know, you see and you learn
new things. I think if you go to a movie
that you really like a second time, and I guess
neurologists would say that there's something about going back to
see a movie like that is like, I don't know,

(00:41):
it's very positive sort of a thing. I came across
it on Instagram. But it was just a good time.
It was just good to spend time sitting next to
my kid and enjoying a movie and then having a
very substantial talk about things that are in the movie afterwards,
which I don't want to spoil it, even though it
was number two at the box office and it's probably
already been spoiled.

Speaker 3 (01:02):
What about you, how was your weekend. This weekend, it.

Speaker 4 (01:04):
Was busy in a good way. I went to my
niece's graduation at UVA, and while I was there, I
got to connect reconnect with dean of mine from Mary
Washington College who is now the dean of students retiring
from UVA, and it was so needed and delightful, and
it's a beautiful campus. So it was just a lovely day.

(01:27):
And I'm glad for those kids that they had good
weather for their right.

Speaker 2 (01:29):

you're joining us from Fairfax today. You say your dad
embarrassed to you, what's up?

Speaker 6 (07:13):
My dad was my biggest fan when I played high
school baseball. But the problem was he was incredibly loud.
I mean you can hear him scream from block.

Speaker 4 (07:22):
Away, Toby, didn't you play sports?

Speaker 2 (07:24):
I did, But my dad wasn't a screamer, and you
certainly couldn't hear him go off from blocks away.

Speaker 4 (07:29):
Oh no, Well did he argue with the coaches or
the refs?

Speaker 2 (07:32):
No, that's not his way either. He did have comments
about the refs, but he didn't like verbalize them in
such a way that he looked like one of those parents.

size of the American home is nearly tripled in size
over the past sixty years. You want to know why? Stuff?

Speaker 4 (10:57):
Yeah, a lot of stuff. But I'm glad I'm not
part of this stuff. But I feel like you are
one out of ten American households, rents and offsite storage.
Don't you have somewhere?

Speaker 2 (11:06):
I have garage across the way, but don't ask me
to park in that garage. Do you know why? Yes? Stuff?

Speaker 4 (11:13):
Well, and yeah, a quarter of a people can't park
because of their garages. Thank god. We can still park

I've had to get rid of so much stuff from kids, toys,

(12:28):
to couches, the beds, to everything like that in order
to meet the weight standards.

Speaker 4 (12:35):
Well, we're very proud of and we're not getting rid
of the kids in the spouse right.

Speaker 7 (12:40):
Well, the kids were free labor, but you know what,
I like them too much.

Speaker 3 (12:45):
Yeah, it's the kind of stuff you want to keep around.

Speaker 7 (12:49):
Well, one of thems got to take care of me
when I get older.

Speaker 4 (15:33):
Former President Joe Biden has an aggressive form of prostate
cancer that has spread to his bones, and it appears
to be hormone sensitive, which apparently allows for effective management.
Congress pushed President Trump's Big Beautiful Bill Ford after a
rare Sunday vote. The budget includes more spending on immigration

(15:54):
and the military. It extends the twenty seventeen tax cuts
and cuts Medicaid eight snap and clean energy funding. The
White House says a call between President Trump and Vladimir
Putin is scheduled for today and that it could lead
to progress on a Ukraine ceasefire. Trump has suggested that
the upcoming talks will be productive. New York City and

(16:17):
federal officials they've started their investigation into the deadly crash
of a Mexican Navy training ship into the Brooklyn Bridge.
Two people died, nineteen others were injured. Two people were
rescued from the Potomac River. This happened near Katie Island
on Saturday after they were swept away from their small
boat and they were clinging to a tree near a

(16:38):
waterfall's edge. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue treated both individuals
for minor injuries. For the first time, Virginians with certain
past convictions will be able to seal their criminal records
from public view starting July first, of twenty twenty six.
This change aims to help people move forward by removing

(16:59):
barry to jobs and housing. The Fairfax County Courthouse is
set to reopen today. Hearings and trials at the courthouse
were canceled Thursday and Friday because of an undisclosed technical issue,
and as summer heats up, so do thermostat debates. But
the US Department of Energy says that seventy eight degrees

(17:21):
is the sweet spot for comfort and energy savings on
the Thervist stat forecast for today, sunny skies highs are
going to be around seventy five right now fifty eight
and Bethesda.

Speaker 2 (17:33):
Don't forget you get top stories at the top of
the hour when you wake up with Toby and Chilly
in the Morning here at ninety seven point one, watch
FM Toby not belong with Chilia Mars. So I want
to hear from you if you have a healthy habit
that is hard for you to keep up with. Not
going to judge, just want to hear what that healthy
habit is.

Speaker 3 (17:52):
It's tough.

Speaker 2 (17:53):
Eight sixty six, nine two, seven forty three, sixty one
is the number. There's a reason why I ask that
it's is an overwhelming majority admit that when it comes
to unhealthy habits, well they've got them. So what healthy
habit is tough for you to keep up with? Give
us a call right now or tap that talk back

(18:14):
microphone if you're signed into your iHeart app, leave us
a voice note. We'll get into this coming up in
just a few seven twenty one Tylby and Chilly in
the Morning in Washington's variety from the eighties nineties. In today,
it's ninety seven point one watch at them. Twenty five
percent of Americans give the nation a failing grade when
it comes to physical and mental health. Eighty eight percent

(18:35):
admit to unhealthy habits. It's a new study that's out,
so it begs the question and give us a call
if you have some thoughts eight six, six, nine, two seven,
forty three sixty one. What healthy habit is really hard
for you to keep up with? By the way, you
can also tap the talkback microphone. If you're signed into
your iHeart app, I hear you exhaling chili. That means

(18:58):
that you, uh, there's a healthy app that is really
tough for you.

Speaker 4 (19:01):
What would it be, Well, let's just take sleep off
the table, because you and I have both been lectured
by our doctors. Yes, that we suck at getting enough size,
It's true, and that is the most important habit that
we need to be better at. But outside of that,
I would say, trying to meet my protein intake. I'm
supposed to have like a minimum like seventy five grams

(19:22):
of protein, and it's sometimes really hard for me to
get there, even with the protein bars and the protein
powders and the shakes and whatever. It's still tough. What
about you.

Speaker 2 (19:31):
It's going for a walk for at least half an
hour a day or so, maybe every other day, but
getting it in. And the reason why is because I'll
get home and I'm just exhausted.

Speaker 4 (19:43):
Because we don't sleep.

Speaker 2 (19:44):
We don't sleep, yeah, and so I'll just be like, well,
it's more important than I Yeah.

Speaker 4 (19:51):
Well, And that's the thing, if you had to choose
between one or the other, they're equally important. Exercise and
PEP are just like one and two are both number one,
tied for number one.

Speaker 2 (20:04):
I wonder if that's the reason why twenty five percent
of Americans are giving the nation a failing grade with
mental health because our physical health is lacking and we're
cutting corners.

Speaker 4 (20:14):
They're connected. I think that physical and mental health are
one hundred percent connected. I think that if we had
more movement, we wouldn't be as anxious in this country
because it's very good for you, you know, breaking a
sweat and working out, it's all there. Mental health wise.
You and I are okay with seeing a therapist and

(20:35):
getting help for that. But it's it's just it's tough.
It is a challenge to sustain any good habit for
a long time.

Speaker 2 (20:42):
But when a majority of Americans are admitting to unhealthy habits,
it literally it really does beg the question. And we're
not going to judge around here. We just want to
know what it is if you have an unhealthy habit
and maybe you sacrifice a healthy habit for something that's healthy,
and you, you know, you justify it saying you're tired

(21:03):
like we do. We really are that tired. But we
would love to hear from you, So give us a
call now at eight sixty six ninety seven forty three
sixty one. It's eight sixty six ninety seven forty three
sixty one. If it's easier for you, tap the talk
back microphone if you're signed into your iHeart app listening
to us. We'll get back to this and we'll talk
more about your unhealthy habits. As Toby and Chilly in

(21:26):
the Morning continues. However, next, a story that we think
might just make your Monday comes from Montgomery County where
they're helping to empower fathers with the Fatherhood Initiative. We'll
tell you all about it and why it's something that
we think might just make your Monday.

Speaker 3 (21:43):
Coming up in minutes, Stay with.

Speaker 2 (21:45):
Us Toby and Chilly in the Morning on ninety seven
point one. Watch fam It's Monday, and it's time for
a story that we think might just make your Monday,
and we go to Montgomery County for this story where
the Housing and Opportunities Commission is makeing a real difference
in the lives of dads and their families through a
program called the Fatherhood Initiative Program.

Speaker 4 (22:08):
This all started back in twenty sixteen and it has
helped over thirteen hundred dads gain valuable skills and support
to be more involved than present in their kids' lives.
This program offers parenting classes, job training, education support, and
also resources to build stronger relationships and find stable employment.

Speaker 3 (22:27):
Fathers like Marvin Salmaran.

Speaker 8 (22:30):
Before I started it or I got introduced to it,
I was a nation, a bear of batch, date, homeless,
no job, I hadn't seen my kids in so long,
and I was losing hope.

Speaker 4 (22:42):
And hope was given in the form of financial assistance,
vocational training and certifications that can boost their careers.

Speaker 2 (22:50):
The program in Montgomery County is open to fathers who
live in low income housing or who are on the
housing wait list. But it's not just about education. It's
about helping dads to become confident, responsible and supportive fathers.

Speaker 8 (23:07):
I'm exposing them to like different sports, different musical instruments
as much as I can so that they can find themselves.

Speaker 4 (23:14):
And Marvin is just one of hundreds of dads who
have been impacted by this amazing program in Montgomery County.

Speaker 2 (23:23):
And if there's a father, a dad who wants to
get involved, you can easily reach out to the program
and learn more so that you two can get started.
We put a link so that you can find the
information on the Toby and Chili page washchefm dot com.

Speaker 2 (26:47):
Twenty five percent of Americans say that we as a
country are failing when it comes to healthy abbits like
physical and mental health. Bram and Chevy Chase, Hello and
good morning welcome. Understand there's a healthy abbit. It's hard
for you to keep up with?

Speaker 3 (27:04):
What is it working out?

Speaker 6 (27:06):
I mean, after the weekend, I'm well rested, so I
can hit the gym hard on Monday and Tuesday, but
by Wednesday I'm flagging and my Thursday eight ain't happen.
And it's a great stretch relief, but it's honestly the
first thing to go when I'm tired. So three workouts
a week Monday through Wednesday is the best I can
do usually.

Speaker 2 (27:24):
Yeah, that sounds about right there.

Speaker 4 (27:26):
Bram, Wow, you know, I know that you'd rather work
more days a week, but honestly, a lot of folks
listening right now, I can barely get in even three days. Yes, yes, braam,
thank you.

Speaker 2 (27:38):
Good morning. Sable in Old Town Alexandria. What healthy habit
are you failing? Miserably?

Even crazy preach sable.

Speaker 3 (28:01):
I'm just gonna say, what does that sound about?

Speaker 2 (28:03):
Right too?

Speaker 4 (28:04):
Yes, we're right there with you, just as we finally
doze off into the sweet sweet dream.

Speaker 2 (28:11):
Yes that's right, Chilly, A dream which then becomes a nightmare.
