Speaker 1 (00:00):
We are Toby and Chilly in the morning, and this
is ninety seven point one wash FM, Washington's variety from
the eighties, nineties and today. Good Friday morning, and welcome
to our little Friday excursion together as we all collectively
get up and get ready to start a brand new day.
Why are you feeling good this morning? They're chiliamar.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
The suitcases have come upstairs.
Speaker 1 (00:21):
Oh, oh, yes we are.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
We are exactly two weeks away from our first little
getaway to Ocean City. Yes and yes, I know it's
really pre planning, but it's always exciting when the staging begins.
Speaker 1 (00:35):
Yes, they're upstairs this time, not in the landing by
the stairwell.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
No, they're actually not in the basement storage now really right,
So now they've just come up to the living area
where I'm going to start gathering the things over the
next couple of weeks that we're going to be taking.
Speaker 1 (00:52):
Step by step. Chilia Mahr. More prepared than a scout.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
You know what it is? Can I be honest? It
puts me in a good morning, an everyday mindset, because
it's a reminder that even if you're having a crap day,
there is a break coming.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
Yes, and you know what it is. That is a
great reminder and I've got to tell you to dovetail
off of that. That's why I'm feeling good today because
we just had a long holiday weekend where many people
had a break, right, and then you go back to
work and you think to yourself, oh, this is going
to be the longest week ever. And it has been long.
It has just seemed like a little bit longer because
(01:27):
people are kind of, you know, dragging a little bit,
you know what I mean today, That's what happens when
you have these holiday weekends and Monday. But you know
what I said to myself at the beginning of this week,
We're gonna make it through. We're not going to complain
about it. We're going to be like what we are
about it. And you know what, lo and behold, we've
made it to Friday. And after you get done with
work whenever work ends today's assuming you don't work on
(01:48):
the weekend, you've got your U time again for the weekend.
So you've almost made it and we've almost made it together.
That's a reason to get up out of bed on
a Friday morning. So why are you feeling good? Today,
eight sixty six, ninet two, seven forty three sixty. When
is the number? Feel free to give us a call,
tell us tap the talk bag microphone. If you signed

you with a morning mindset.
Speaker 1 (02:40):
Quote and just in time for a best of the
eighties weekend. It starts with Sabrina Conti. Later on today
at five, Prince reminds all of us, let's go crazy,
let's get nuts. Yeah, I see you looking. You're like,
wait a minute. Did he just quote Prince and say
let's go crazy, let's get nuts. Yes, because it's Prince
(03:01):
and it makes sense when you think about it. Creativity
thrives in boldness. So don't play small, don't play small,
go crazy, get a little nuts today and watch what happens.
That's your morning mindset for this Friday morning. Hopefully it helped.
If it did and you want to send it to
somebody you might need it, go check out the Toby
and chilipage at washfm dot com or reach out to
(03:23):
Chili or myself. We'd be happy to send it to
you so that you too can go crazy, get nuts,
and thrive through your boldness. Coming up in just minutes,
As Toby and Chili in the Morning continues on this Friday, what.
Speaker 2 (03:37):
Is something that you wish celebrities do that the average
person does?
Speaker 1 (03:42):
Oh, let us count the ways.
Speaker 2 (03:43):
Yeah, well, Gwyneth Paltrow actually was wearing like a fifteen
dollars pair of shorts, and it's got everybody saying, why
can everybody act normal? There?
Speaker 3 (03:50):
Right?
Speaker 1 (03:51):
Why can't we all go to Kohle's Celebrities Target five
below thoughts eight six six ninety seven forty three sixty one.
We're gonna talk about it in just a few minutes,
so join us if you want to. You can also
tap that talk back microphone. Leave us your thoughts. If
that's easier, you just have to be signed into the
app to use it and we'll talk in a few
(04:12):
ninety seven point one watch fm 're Toby and Chilly
in the morning. The number this morning is eight six
six nine two seven forty three sixty one. You should
give us a call and tell us what you think
about these celebrities. Do you wish that they would ever
just do something average?
Speaker 2 (04:27):
And when they do something quote unquote normal, it's news
like Gwyneth Paltrow wearing fifteen dollars geene shorts. I mean,
come on, why are we talking about them?
Speaker 1 (04:36):
Because People magazine would have us by their magazine.
Speaker 2 (04:39):
You know what would impress me if the average celebrity
did just grow old gracefully like everybody else, right, instead
of jacking up your faces to try to look young.
Oh yeah, be like everybody else. Lose the hair, get
the wrinkles, go gray, be.
Speaker 1 (04:56):
You wow, you are five oh this morning? About this?
Oliver and Alexandria, thanks for joining us at eight six
six nine two seven forty three sixty one. What do
you think about this? Because clearly Chili's fired up.
Speaker 4 (05:12):
I think more celebrities should have to take commercial airlines
to get the places private just are luxury, I know,
but it would be nice for the super rich to
know what going through an airport is actually like, or.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
What happens to normal people. If you get caught smoking
a cigarette after drinking too much vodka on a plane,
Britney spears looking at you.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
It's hard for them to go through an airport like
a normal person because they're going to be swarmed by
fans and paparazzi. Though, so that's a little tough.
Speaker 1 (05:37):
Hey, good morning, Catherine and Gaithersburg. What do you think
about these celebrities.
Speaker 5 (05:42):
I wish celebrities would just admit when they mess up
like regular people do. No pr spin, no carefully crafted
note tack, apologies, just the real Yeah, nice grewed up.
It's way more human and honestly, way more respectable.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
I think you're right in theory, but once we've tried that,
avenue still get canceled. It's like you're damned if you
do and you're damned if you don't.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
And that's why you need a crisis communications team because
they can help you minimize the damage.
Speaker 2 (06:12):
Damage is still damage. Just don't screw up.
Speaker 1 (06:15):
But sometimes it's not that easy, and that's when you
need the professionals to come in. This town is full
of them. We love hearing your thoughts, so give us
a call. It's Toby and Chilly in the Morning at
ninety seven point one wash FM, and stay there because
the news is next. And now Toby and Chilly in
the Morning, ninety seven point one Wash FM at eight
(06:37):
sixty six nine two seven forty three sixty one. Let's
talk about work trips. There's an interesting statut about you
and your significant other when it comes to going on
the road for work.
Speaker 2 (06:49):
Seventy five percent of people would bring someone on a
work trip without telling their boss.
Speaker 5 (06:55):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (06:56):
How do you feel about these work trips and bringing
people with chilli?
Speaker 2 (07:00):
I think it's totally fine as long as the person
you're bringing isn't on the company's dime in any way,
shape or form. They pay their own airfare, they pay
for their own food, but they're just keeping me company
during the off hours of work.
Speaker 1 (07:14):
I hear you on that, and I can agree up
to a point. I think you've got to disclose it
to your boss. I had a boss once upon a time.
Tell me no surprises. I don't want to be surprised.
So if I showed up someplace with my significant other
and they did not know, I would be in trouble.
So disclose it with your boss, get the blessing you know,
(07:35):
and then you can move about the cabin. It's interesting.
What would you do? Would you bring somebody on a
work trip? Should you tell your boss? Do you have to?
Yes or no? There's no right or wrong answer. That's
just the answers. And we would love to hear from
you via talkback. If you're signed into your iHeart app,
just tap speak and send. Sometimes it's easier, and we
love hearing your thoughts on a Friday morning.
Speaker 2 (07:55):

all the fields on a Friday, it's gotta be our
feel good Friday story for the day Today, the story
that's making us feel good comes from Maryland resident Mary Wikes,
(09:50):
who is one hundred years.
Speaker 2 (09:52):
Old and she still drives herself to work and is
one of the oldest active real estate agents in the country,
and her dedication to her work remains as strong as ever.
Speaker 1 (10:03):
She didn't start in real estate until she was get
this fifty four. She worked for the federal government for
twenty years. Her career change was inspired by her dad's
advice to work independently. She has never looked back since.
Speaker 3 (10:19):
My dad, who was a dairy farmer, always said, Mary,
work for yourself, and I could never figure out a
way to do that until one time I heard that
a secretary at NBS had just taken the real estate
course and become a realtor.
Speaker 2 (10:38):
Now, to Mary, real estate is way more than about property.
It's about the people. She says. She loves meeting new
individuals and understanding their stories and also helping them navigate
their big life changes.
Speaker 1 (10:49):
So Chilli but begs the question, what's the secret to
your longevity?
Speaker 3 (10:54):
There, Mary Good jeans a lot of luck and believe
they in the kindness of people and believing take one
day at a time, and in lifelong learning, never retiring,
enjoy your work, never retire.
Speaker 5 (11:12):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (11:12):
Mary is more than just a remarkable statistic. She is
a living, breathing example of how passion and purpose and
perseverance can lead you to a fulfilling, lifelong career and
sometimes many careers.
Speaker 2 (11:27):
Now, if you want to read more about Mary's inspiring story,
you can find it on the Toby and chilipage at
washfm dot com.
Speaker 1 (11:36):
Still to come with Toby and Chile in the morning.
How was it when you were cut off by your parents,
you know, told to get out into the real world,
boot it out of the nest. I hope they bring
forth good feels because we're about to get a nostalgic
stay with Toby and Chili in the morning. Congratulations to
all of the college graduates who returned home and now
(12:00):
you have to face the world of work. And it's
cool that you can come home for a little bit,
but how long can you stay there before you get
kicked out of the nest? Ninety seven point one Watch FM.
We're Toby and Chilly in the morning and we want
to talk with you about it this morning.
Speaker 2 (12:13):
Well, your daughter is in that boat, right, So in
your mind, do you have a timeline of when you'll
be sort of cutting her off?
Speaker 1 (12:20):
I'd like to say yes, but no, you don't. No.
I just want her to make the right move at
the right time.
Speaker 2 (12:26):
Right, But like as a parent, could she stay indefinitely
with you?
Speaker 3 (12:29):
Well?
Speaker 1 (12:29):
And definitely no. I don't know why she would want
to stand well, well because it's cheaper, but yeah, I
would like for her to be kind of on her
own two to three years, and I think she'll give
me the sign when it's time. What happened with you?
Speaker 2 (12:42):
My parents wanted me to stay at home until I
got married. That's literally what they wanted. But I was like, Nope,
peace out. I'm out of here as soon as soon
as I could.
Speaker 1 (12:52):
And then they said, to you move in with your
new husband. We want you close.
Speaker 2 (12:57):
Really, I'm only a mile away.
Speaker 1 (12:58):
Well, then it's like you never left. Eight sixty six
nineteen seven forty three sixty one. Tell us what it
was like when you were cut off by mom and dad,

found a great apartment.
Speaker 1 (14:02):

from mom and dad financially? Absolutely terrible, A bit.
Speaker 4 (14:28):
Of a shell shock.
Speaker 5 (14:29):
I had no idea what I was doing and how

I got through it, but it was death hard.
Speaker 1 (14:38):

sure your parents were very supportive and encouraging, reminding you
that you'll always find your way back home if you
need to.
Speaker 2 (14:48):
And they're also thinking, don't let the door hit you
on the way out.
