Speaker 1 (00:03):
Monday, Monday, everybody works on Monday. Toby and Chilly in
the morning on ninety seven point one watch FM. But
you know that's not a positive way to start the day.
A positive way to start the day is to talk
about what feels good before five Chilli, what feels good
for you from the weekend. I have a feeling I
know based on a photo you texted. Yes, pool side

(00:25):
all weekend?

Speaker 2 (00:27):
Yeah, that's I woke up Saturday morning and my husband
did not want to go to the pool. What but
my I know, He's like, oh, I don't really want
to go, and I go, well, guess what. I am
choosing to do this, and this is what we're going
to do. And so we went to the pool and
it was wonderful.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
It was perfect. We had a great time. So you
had to like throw the weight around with your hubs
to get him to come with the to the pool
with you.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
Yes, I said, you know what, I literally acted like
a child. I said, it's my birthday and we can
do what I want to.

Speaker 1 (01:00):
Oh my body.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
Yeah, I was like nope, And so he had to
he had to be like, fine, that's what we'll do.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
Wow. So he came along he's just not a pool guy.
I don't know how else to put it. I don't
know about that man, because I kill for the pool.
I love the pool. I spent most of the last
summer trying to get over some dry skin stuff on
my legs so I could go to the pool. The pool.
You can't go wrong with the pool. He's not He's

(01:30):
just not He's more of a beach guy. Why'd you have?
Are you feeling good too? Well? Amtrak has this thing,
you know. I was in New York over the weekend
for some stuff. Amtrak has this thing called bid up right,
and it's it's basically like eBay, but for their first
class seats. Well, I successfully bid up on my way
into New York and on my way back from New

(01:52):
York for dirt cheap. Like I must have been the
only person doing the bid up thing that day or
I just kind of lightly outbid somebody else. But Amtra
if you ever want to experience like first class travel
on Asella, I mean, it's a great thing if you
enjoy your beverages of the adult variety, because they're free,

(02:13):
they serve you meals, and I mean I got into
that for next to nothing. Nice next to nothing. So
it's little winds like that that really just make your day.
So I would encourage you to try to bid up.
If you're traveling by train to New York or to
Boston or wherever today, what's making you feel good before five?

(02:34):
You know where to find us. Eight sixty six ninet
two seven forty three sixty one is the number. Talkback
is wide open too if you want to tap speak
and sending your sign into your iHeart app Toby and

some fog, a little bit of missed out there early on,
but progressively through the day we'll see some sunshine breaking through,
temperatures into low to middle eighty. Should be a mainly

ahead of our next front. I'm seventies DC's Brian vandergraphrom.

Governor Gavin Newsom is accusing the President of quote trying

to manufacture a crisis in Los Angeles County after the
President deployed two thousand National Guard troops to La marilynd Man,
who was mistakenly deported to El Salvador, returned to the
US to face criminal charges Friday. US Attorney General Pam
Bondi said that Kilmar Abrego Garcia will be charged with

(04:02):
human trafficking. A fight among teenagers at DuPont Circle Park
Saturday night led to two stabbings, followed by a separate
shooting nearby. DC police say that two teams were hospitalized
after the initial fight, and then about an hour later,
a man was shot in the foot. He is expected
to recover. A twenty three year old man from Silver

(04:23):
Spring has been charged after allegedly stabbing his mother's boyfriend
during a fight last week in White Oak, Polise, ay
o'shay hunter first threatened the man with a fork and
then stabbed him with a multi tool knife and hit
him with a baton before fleeing the scene. And US
News and World Report did research to find the domestic
destinations that are budget friendly for summer trips. Yellowstone National

(04:48):
Park is number one, followed by Yosemite National Park, but
DC came in seventh. Forecasts for today, pretty nice day
later partly cloudy, eighty two to the high. Right now

Speaker 1 (05:03):
Don't forget you get top stories at the top of
the hour the News with Toby and Chili in the
morning on ninety seven point one WASHFM, and next will
pause to talk about you and your mindset with some
words we think might help you get through this Monday,
the ninth day of June. Zoby at Chilly in the morning.
On this Monday here at ninety seven point one Wash FM,

(05:26):
it's time for us to focus a bit on you
this morning.

Speaker 2 (05:30):
And your mindset, specifically with a quote to get you
into that good headspace as you take on a new week.

Speaker 1 (05:36):
Jerry Dunn says, don't limit your challenges, challenge your limits.
Don't limit your challenges, challenge your limits. Jerry Dunn says this,
and to me it kind of means and maybe it'll
mean the same way to you, same thing to you.
Stretch past safe, because that's how you grow. Don't limit
your challenges, challenge your limits today. Watch what happens when

(05:59):
you do. I think you might be just I think
you might be surprised at what you have inside of you.
And that is your morning mindset for this Monday, as
we all challenge our limits together. It's ninety seven point
one wash FM. If that helped, feel free to reach
out ask Chilli or myself if we can send it
your way so you can post it someplace where you

(06:20):
can look at it, or share it with a friend
who might need some help too. Now, coming up with
Tellby and Chilly in the morning.

Speaker 2 (06:26):
In minutes, so you said you discovered that you don't
like doing something as you go to bed because it
prevents you from falling asleep.

Speaker 1 (06:35):
That's very true. So you're gonna have to tell me
what you're talking about. Well, I will in just a
few minutes. And by the way, there's a chance that
you might agree sir or ma'am listening this morning the
numbers eight sixty six, nine two, seven forty three sixty one.
Feel free to jump into any conversation we have this
morning traffic. Welcome to Monday, teby and Chilly in the morning.

(06:56):
On ninety seven point one wash FM. I have a
revelation to share with the class chilling. I cannot sleep
with the bedroom door open at all, period, full stop.
And why is that? Because light comes in, ambient light
from outside. Here's how I know for sure. Before I
left town, my daughter wakes me up to come to

(07:18):
work on Friday morning. Can to make sure I got up,
she left my door wide open. Do you know what
that was like a nightmare. There was no going back
to snooze, There was no going back to sleep for
a little bit longer. Nope, I had to get up
because the door was opened.

Speaker 2 (07:34):
I keep my door shut for a different reason, no
matter what. And this is like twenty years now. I
feel more secure. In other words, if somebody were to
break in somehow, that's another barrier before the bad guy
comes into the bedroom, I might be able to hide
under the bed or something.

Speaker 1 (07:51):
You know what I'm saying. It makes a lot of sense. Yep.
So I'm shutting the door and if I want to
outlock it, and you know I'm not thinking we're alone
made six six nine two forty three, p sixty one
bedroom door? Do you sleep with it open or closed?
Good morning, Amanda, and thank you for joining us from
falls Church today. What's up?

Speaker 2 (08:12):
So I sleep with my door closed for fire safety,
which makes me sound like a nerd. Honestly, it's the
safest way because if God forbid a fire broke out,
you're safe.

Speaker 3 (08:22):
So I recommend it to everyone.

Speaker 1 (08:23):
Did Pete Pearenter from the Montgomery County Fire and Risk
you squad like tell you to call us this morning.

Speaker 2 (08:28):
I've actually read that somewhere and I think that is
really good advice and another good reason to keep the
door shut.

Speaker 1 (08:35):
Thanks for that. The things you learn when you listen
to Toby and Chilly in the morning. It is ninety
seven point one wash FM. So how do you sleep
with the door opened or closed? Let us know what's
on your mind. We always love hearing what you think.

The President's travel ban from twelve countries is now in effect.

(09:23):
This includes Afghanistan, Iran, Haiti, Somalia, and Sudan, and people
from seven countries are going to have partial restriction, including
Cuba and Venezuela. Police are investigating two violent incidents near

the Jack Adams Award after leading the team to the

(10:07):

coach ever to earn the honor in the EHL, AHL
and NHL. And a recent survey revealed a taste for
odd but tasty pairings like French fries and tartar sauce
or scrambled eggs with barbecue sauce, and most repondence respondents

(10:27):
rather said they regularly use sauce on favorites like fries,
chicken nuggets, and hot dogs. Forecasts for today partly cloudy

Speaker 1 (10:40):
Toby and chilly in the morning. On ninety seven point
one Wash FM, you get top stories at the top
of the hour. That's what we call the news. Coming

at eight sixty six, nine two, seven forty three sixty one,
or when you tap the talkbag microphone if you're signed
into your heart app to jump into any conversation we have.
There's a study that's fit that we are most stressed

(11:02):
in our twenties. That pause was intentional, most stressed in
our twenties, and apparently it gets better in our fifties.
We'll unpack this study. We'll tell you some thoughts. We
look forward to hearing yours. Stay with Toby and Chili in.

Speaker 3 (11:19):
The morning and now DC Toby and Chilly.

Speaker 1 (11:23):
In the morning. On a Monday, it's ninety seven point
one watch FM news. Study out says that you're most
stressed in your twenties and it gets better in your fifties.
Well already, then e's sixty six nine two seven three
sixty one. If you have some thoughts on either side
of the equation, The long story short, Chilli, you are.

Speaker 2 (11:45):
Yeah, the reason people are more stressed in their twenties
is because they've graduated from college, they're hunting for jobs,
and they're becoming independent for the first time. Well, okay,
I'll give them that. That's true, that happens. But I'm
having a little trouble buying into the fact that stress
actually goes down when you're in your fifties.

Speaker 1 (12:06):
Oh no, I don't think it does. I think in
your fifties you're either paying student loans off or you're
you're dealing with your kid being home from college after
he graduates, trying to find a job exactly, and all
the bills that go along with it. Oh, and then
the unexpected things like.

Speaker 2 (12:24):
You're wondering if you'll ever be able to retire in
the next ten to fifteen years.

Speaker 1 (12:28):
Right, don't even talk about that. I'll be saying, welcome
to Walmart. Yeah, can I help you find something?

Speaker 2 (12:34):
Not that we're sitting here competing which decade is the
most stressful, but we are. I think that one thing
does happen in our fifties. We have been exposed to
stress longer than someone in their twenties, So our coping
or strategies might be a little bit better, if.

Speaker 1 (12:49):
That makes any sense. It does absolutely is foreign to us,
this stress thing. We, in fact, you expect to stress
like the other shoe to drop eventually.

Speaker 3 (13:00):
In Chilli's nearly impossible.

Speaker 1 (13:01):
Question, what is the Monday question? Please?

Speaker 2 (13:05):
In nineteen ninety five, the average length of one of
these was eleven months, but today lasts about fifteen months.

Speaker 1 (13:13):
What are we talking about? Up for grabs A four
pack of tickets Broadway of the Park at wolf Trap.
It's cup mates. Wow, it's literally this month on the
twenty eighth. That's amazing. If you saw the Tonys last night,
you're probably gonna love going to Broadway. In the park.
Here's the question again for that four pack of tickets.

Speaker 2 (13:29):
Back in nineteen ninety five, the average length of one
of these was eleven months, but today it lasts about
fifteen months.

Speaker 1 (13:36):
What is it Broadway in the Park? Wolf Trap? Later
on this month, on the twenty eighth, four pack of
tickets yours at eight six, six, nine two seven forty
three sixty one. If you call right now and you
answer that question correctly, you will.

Speaker 3 (13:49):
Win Toby and Chilli's nearly impossible question.

Speaker 1 (13:52):
All right, Chili, what's the question again? One more time?

Speaker 2 (13:55):
Back in nineteen ninety five, the average length of one
of these was eleven months, and today it lasts about
fifteen months.

Speaker 1 (14:02):
What is it Broadway in the park? At wolf Trap?
Later on this month, on the twenty eighth, the four
pack of tickets could be yours, Larn from Bristow. Good morning,
how are you? I'm doing well, well, welcome to this show.
You've got the question what is your guest?

Speaker 2 (14:19):
I would guess a wedding engagement.

Speaker 1 (14:21):
How long was your engagement? Actually pretty short, less than
like about six.

Speaker 2 (14:26):
Months even less?

Speaker 1 (14:27):
But okay, well, I'm common.

Speaker 2 (14:30):
That is pretty rare. It's usually about a year. The average.
But yeah, engagement is the right answer today. It lasts
about fifteen months.

Speaker 1 (14:37):
Congratulations, thank you, thank you so much. Broadway in the Park.
You're going to wolf Trap on the twenty eighth of
this month with a four pack of tickets. Enjoy.

Speaker 3 (14:47):
Thank you very much.

Speaker 2 (14:48):
I really appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (14:49):
Thank you, and have a great Monday and an even
better week. Laurn from Bristow. Thanks and we've got more
tickets for you tomorrow. If you want to go to
Broadway in the Park at wolf Trap, we can make
that happened, another four pack of tickets in the morning.
With your nearly impossible question. Need the news gotch covered
It's next with ninety seven point one Watch FM Toby
and Chilly's top.

Speaker 3 (15:09):
Story, Top Stories, Top of the Hour.

Speaker 2 (15:13):
More than sixty people were arrested during ice protests in
downtown LA. Protesters shut down both directions of the one
oh one, prompting the California Highway Patrol to take over
the scene and arrest seventeen individuals. Meanwhile, tensions are growing
over President Trump's move to activate the National Guard in
LA to respond to the anti ice protests. A Democratic

(15:36):
governor's call it quote an alarming abuse of power, saying
that the federal government should not deploy state Guard troops
without working with local leaders. Lawyers for Maryland resident kilmar
Abrego Garcia are accusing the Trump administration of intentionally defying
a court order by delaying his return to the US.

(15:56):
Although Garcia was brought back Friday to face humans smuggling
charges in Tennessee, his legal team argues the government could
have returned him sooner. A fight among teenagers at DuPont
Circle Park Saturday night led to two stabbings, followed by
a separate shooting nearby. DC Police a two teens were
hospitalized after that initial fight, and then about an hour later,

(16:18):
a man was shot in the foot on Nineteenth Street
and is expected to recover. Former DC Police Lieutenant Shane
Lamon has been sentenced to eighteen months in prison for
obstruction of justice and lying to investigators. He's accused of
leaking information to Proud Boys leader Enrique Tario.

Speaker 1 (16:38):
Add A new.

Speaker 2 (16:39):
Study analyzed prices to reveal the cheapest fast food chain
in the country. Taco Bell has been named the cheapest overall.
Followed by Wendy's forecasts for today, partly cloudy skies, a
little bit later with highs in the low eighties. Right
now it is sixty seven in Beltsville.

Speaker 1 (16:58):
Then that's the news. Toby and Chillyan the morning Top
stories at the top of the hour. Tell all your
friends and stay right there, because what's the last time
you asked your son daughter? Maybe somebody you're a caregiver
for what they want to be when they grow up. Chile,
Apparently you asked your son and he had an answer
that Now what I was not expecting left field. Oh

(17:22):
wait a minute, Well, we're gonna find out what that
answer was in just a few minutes. And of course,
if you want to jump in, it's eight sixty six
nine two seven forty three sixty one Tillby and Chile.
In the morning it is ninety seven point one Wash FM.
The numbers eight six six nine two seven forty three
sixty one. And talkback works too. If you tap speak
and send, then you're signed into your iHeart app. You

(17:44):
can tell us what you think about the different things
that we're talking about. And Chili, you've got kind of
a big week this week happening.

Speaker 2 (17:51):
My eleven year old son is finishing fifth grade this
week and it's a tradition that I ask him, because
I think a lot of parents do this right. You
ask your kids what do you want to be when
you grow up? And every year he'll give me a
different answer. I've had cowboy as an answer, a race
car pit boss yes, and a robot inventor get paid.

(18:12):
So over the weekend I said, hey, Donado, what do
you want to be when you grow up?

Speaker 1 (18:17):
And why? And I wasn't expecting his answer, A flight
attendant because I want to be helpful. You know, he's
fascinated by planes. Didn't he build a plane recently out
of like a toilet paper tube and stuff?

Speaker 2 (18:30):
Yes, he did, and he does simulation flights and stuff.
But Toby, he's never been on an airplane. We've never
flown anywhere with him, so he's never seen a flight
attendant in action. I don't know if he'd still want
to do that. But it's a lot of work, kiddo.
It's not just giving people drink.

Speaker 1 (18:46):
You might really want to be a flight attendant right
up until the point when somebody complains if you're not
getting them their beverage fast exactly.

Speaker 2 (18:55):
But I'm not too worried because, as with many kids,
they change their minds all the time time, their answers
are not the same.

Speaker 1 (19:02):
And that's the beautiful thing about the dreams of childhood. Yeah,
what do you want to be when you grow up?
If you asked your kid what they say? Eight sixty
six nine two seven forty three sixty one. If you
don't have a kid, you can still take part in
the conversation. Did you ask a niece or a nephew
or maybe a younger sibling. Feel free to tell us
your story. We love to hear them and we want

(19:22):
to live through their dreams too. So get ahold of
us and we'll talk about this some more coming up
as Toby and Chilly in the Morning continues. Next though
a story that we think might just make your Monday.

Speaker 2 (19:33):
It's never too late to get your college degree, and
one seventy five year old Maryland resident proves it.

Speaker 1 (19:41):
We think you might just be inspired by this story.
It's next. You are with Toby and Chilly in the Morning.
It's ninety seven point one watch FM on Monday, and
it's time for a story that we think might just
inspire you and make your Monday roll. McSween Brooks. She
was standing in line to receiver degree from the University

(20:03):
of Maryland Global Campus, and a wave of emotion swept
over her. See she's seventy five years old, and this
moment was more than fifty years in the making.

Speaker 2 (20:15):
Her college journey started at Brown University right after she
graduated high school, but just after a year there she
walked away because she said it wasn't the right fit. Now,
she went on to build a fulfilling career with computers
and technology while she was raising a family in DC,
but the idea of finishing what she had started never
left her.

Speaker 1 (20:36):
And so six years ago she went back to school, determined, focused,
and now she's not only earned her bachelor's degree in
Management information Systems, but also a minor in data science
and a certificate in data analytics.

Speaker 4 (20:52):
My path has just widened, and I'm about to walk
into a whole new, wonderful world of not just opportunities,
but chances to make a difference.

Speaker 1 (21:02):
And so that really is it. Chances to make a difference. Yeah, Yeah,
that's it.

Speaker 2 (21:07):
And as Carol crossed the stage to get her diploma,
her family watched proudly from below.

Speaker 1 (21:13):
Here's what her daughter Brandy had to say over the moon, proud,
I can't express it enough. And I will tell anybody,
everybody all the time, that's my mom and I'm so
proud to be her daughter. Carol was triumphant, but this
moment was not to be the last moment. She's already

(21:35):
thinking ahead. Can you say pH D Yeah, Carol, what
an inspiration? And what was your excuse for not going
back to school?

Speaker 2 (21:45):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (21:45):
You're too old. It's not what Carol McSween Brooks says.
It's a story that we think might just make your Monday.
And we know we were inspired and we hope it
did the same for you. With Toby and Chilly in
the morning, It's ninety seven point one wash FM.

Speaker 2 (21:59):

calls coming up in minutes. Toby and Chilly in the morning.

Speaker 4 (24:41):
Continue next front. I'm seventies, DC's Brian Viandigraph.

Speaker 1 (24:45):
Let's get back to it. We're Toby and Chilly in
the Morning in ninety seven point one wash FM. Earlier
we were talking about what our kids want to be
when they grow up, because Chili, your son shared with
you recently that he wants to be a flight attendant.

Speaker 2 (24:58):
Right, he's in fifth grade, and this answer is going
to change many times by the time he's older.

Speaker 1 (25:05):
Yes, absolutely. In fact, how many times did it change
for you or for me or maybe you listening you
had this one dream once when you were seven, that
you were seventeen and it was something else twenty seven
and became something completely different. Yeah, like you're not an astronaut.
You work in radio, that's right, But I wanted to
be flying for SpaceX or something. By now, I'm just

(25:26):
saying eight six, six, nine, two, seven, forty three sixty.
When is our number? If you want to join us,
Body in twin Brook, go ahead, you're up.

Speaker 2 (25:34):
My son, who's five, keeps saying that he wants to
be a caterer. I asked him why, and he says
he wants to be around food and people who like food,
and I think that's a great idea.

Speaker 1 (25:44):
Thanks for calling Body.

Speaker 2 (25:45):
I wonder if your son will still feel that way
when he realizes caterer's work weekends.

Speaker 1 (25:49):
Ah, that's right, late at night on the weekends too.
No rest for the weary. But nonetheless it's their dream, Sage.
Welcome to the show from Arlington. And what's going on?

Speaker 2 (26:01):
Well, right now, my youngest swears she's gonna be a
puppy dog ballerina.

Speaker 1 (26:05):
I can't, honestly I support that ambition.

Speaker 2 (26:08):
All right, then, a puppy dog ballerina, Toby. That's one
of those things, Sage, where you just kind of nod
your head and go, okay, honey, you do you.

Speaker 1 (26:17):
Because I'm still trying to figure out what a puppy
dog ballerina is. You know what's interesting, ladies, hearing all
of this reminds me that I just asked my daughter
what it was that she wanted to be when she
grows up. She just graduated college, and you know what
I heard, Toby and children
