Speaker 3 (05:44):
Morning to you, Mary Claire, Good morning, miss beb. My
friends are so jealous that I'm on your show talking
to you today.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
What well tell them that that they can have a
turn too.
Speaker 3 (06:03):
Absolutely, how are you this day? I am doing well.
We've got a good day, hopefully on tap Here at
Memphis Animal Services. We've got a lot of healthy dogs
that we are trying to get adopted this weekend. We
started this week with forty two healthy dogs who've been
(06:24):
here since February. These are our long stay dogs and
it is time for them to find their forever homes
and we're hoping Memphis will step up this weekend and
help get them out.
Speaker 1 (06:35):
So what are you starting the adoption services this weekend,
Mary Claire?
Speaker 3 (06:43):
So, we actually started yesterday. The shelter is open for
people to come in and adopt or to meet a
dog and you know, inquire about fostering or to look
at TETs. We do have cats too. But the shelter
is open from one pm to six pm Tuesdays through Fridays,
and then on Saturday and Sunday we are open noon
(07:05):
to four pm.
Speaker 1 (07:07):
And so you are in need of some of adoptees,
as I would like to say, you know, come in
and if you want to pet these dogs and cats.
Speaker 2 (07:18):
As you said, they need a home.
Speaker 3 (07:22):
They do. These dogs, these dogs have been with us
for a while. It's not we don't normally have dogs
with us for a very long time, but for various reasons,
these dogs kind of wound up being stuck with us
for a little bit. These are healthy dogs, these are
good dogs. We've got. If you're looking for an active buddy,
somebody to go walking or hiking with you, we've got that.
(07:44):
If you're looking for a cuddle bug to curl up
and Netflix Until with you this weekend, we've got that too.
Speaker 1 (07:51):
So so, Mary Claire, you all have all kinds of dogs,
all just all breeds. I want to ask this question
because I'm very curious. What do you all get the dolls?
I mean, do people bring them in, they leave them,
you find them?
Speaker 2 (08:08):
Where do you get the dogs from?
Speaker 3 (08:11):
Yeah, some are surrendered by their owners. Others are found
out wandering the streets by members of our community who
bring them to us, but most are brought in by
our animal control officers after concerned citizens call and say
that they see a dog that's in need of assistance.
Speaker 2 (08:29):
Okay, and so does it, Mary Claire.
Speaker 1 (08:34):
If people who are listening and they're interested in having
a pet, is there a fee?
Speaker 3 (08:42):
There is a fee. Our adoption fee is forty dollars.
But let me tell you what that adoption fee includes. Okay,
when you adopt your new best friends, they will already
be spade or neuters, They will have all of their
vaccinations to cover the first year of their life. You
and they will be microchipped so that in case you
(09:03):
and your new best friend are ever separated, we'll be
able to get the pet back to you. And if
you were to go and have all that done at
a private vet clinic, that could easily cost you three
to five hundred dollars. So a forty dollars adoption fee
is a bargain.
Speaker 1 (09:20):
Wow, wow, Yeah, that is a bargain. That is a bargain,
Mary Claire. And so has it been that the adoption
process has been kind of slow because you said, you
had these dogs since Fibruary, and I know you want
to find a home for them.
Speaker 2 (09:40):
So it's been kind of slow. What do you think
is going on?
Speaker 3 (09:45):
Well, we had to be closed for a couple or
for a few weeks because we had some health concerns
going on with animals, right, But just to reassure everybody,
the animals that we have for adoption this weekend are
all perfectly healthy. They never got sicked, they have wonderful
immune systems. And so I think we reopened about a
(10:06):
week and a half ago, but I think a lot
of people haven't heard the message that we're back open
for folks to come in and look at adopting a pet.
So we just want to spread the word. And we've
also got this challenge to the Memphis community to help
us get these forty two dogs that have been with
us for so long, help them find them forever homes
this weekend.
Speaker 1 (10:25):
Does it matter, Mary Claire, are listeners who are listening
who those listeners may come from Mississippi or Arkansas, our
neighboring states to come get a dog?
Speaker 2 (10:37):
Is that possible?
Speaker 3 (10:39):
That is absolutely possible. We have actually had people drive
as far away as from Wisconsin to come a dot
a dog.
Speaker 2 (10:47):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (10:47):
So that is no problem whatsoever. We encourage our neighbors
from all around the Memphis area to come on in.
Speaker 2 (10:55):
Okay. And as you said earlier, you have all kinds,
all kinds of time.
Speaker 3 (11:00):
We have all kinds. And if you go to our website,
memphisanimal Services dot com, you can see the pictures of
all of our available pets and read a little bit
about them, what their personalities are.
Speaker 1 (11:12):
Like, oh good, oh good, I'll pull that up and
see not like I'm thinking about not like I'm thinking
me or Claire getting a dog.
Speaker 3 (11:23):
I tried a perfect you know what, Mary Claire.
Speaker 2 (11:26):
I tried that once.
Speaker 1 (11:28):
But because I'm not home a lot, and I know
some kind of dogs, they need a lot of attention
and cuddling and all that. And I had I had
a cockapoo, Mary Claire, and you know they like a lot.
Speaker 3 (11:39):
They're very needy.
Speaker 2 (11:40):
Yeah, that very very neat, very needy dog.
Speaker 1 (11:45):
So you know what, I think, I'm gonna look on
the website and see I'm sorry, Maya Claire, go right ahead.
Speaker 3 (11:52):
I was gonna say, you know, it's a common misconception
I think from a lot of people that you need
to be home all the time to have a dog.
I have three dogs and I work ten hour days,
and that's perfectly fun hanging out at home. I walk
them in the morning, and I walk them as soon
as I get home. And in the meantime when I'm
at work, they're just asleep on the couch in the
(12:14):
living room. They don't miss me at all.
Speaker 2 (12:16):
Wow, I'm curious, now, Mary Claire, what kind of dogs
are they?
Speaker 3 (12:21):
Oh? I have some mixed up Memphis much, which is
my favorite breed of all. They've got the best gritten grind,
if you know what I mean. So I have two
girls and a boy.
Speaker 2 (12:32):
Okay, sounds good. I like that. I like that, Mary Clip, Memphis.
Speaker 3 (12:36):
Mut, mixed up Memphis Mut. They're the best.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
They're good.
Speaker 1 (12:41):
So this weekend you are asking our listeners if you
would like to have a pet, come see you and
tell them again how they can and also, mayor.
Speaker 2 (12:53):
Clip where are you all located if people don't know.
Speaker 3 (12:57):
Yeah, So one of the things I love to is
you can go to our website and you can shop
around and look at what we have before you ever
even come out here again. That address is Memphisanimalsservices dot com.
And then our building is located at twenty three fifty
two three five zero Appling City Cove, which is right
(13:19):
near the Appling exit off I forty. So if you
come out here, once you get off the exit and
turn to the north, you'll be able to see the
signs lead near to our building. You know what.
Speaker 1 (13:30):
I am so glad you told me where you were,
because I was thinking that you guys were over there
by Shelby Farms.
Speaker 2 (13:36):
I don't know why I thought that.
Speaker 3 (13:39):
That's the Humane Society.
Speaker 2 (13:42):
Okay, thank you for telling me that.
Speaker 1 (13:46):
All right, So Mary Claire says, come on out and
adopt a pet, and because you all want to give
these these animals a nice, caring and loving, loving I'm
saying that again, Mary Claire, loving home.
Speaker 3 (14:01):
Correct, that's correct, that's correct. Come and find your new
best friend. I promise, whenever you're having a bad day,
a dog or a cat can always make you feel better.
Speaker 1 (14:12):
Well, I've heard that from friends who have have dogs,
and I grew up, you know, we had a dog. Yeah. So,
Mary Claire, I hope you get a lot of folks
to come out and so you can get rid of
all those dogs, and again you said they don't have
to worry about anything.
Speaker 3 (14:32):
That's right, these guys. I'm ready to go.
Speaker 2 (14:36):
Ready to go, and at forty dollars, that's not a
whole lot.
Speaker 3 (14:41):
That's right. That's right.
Speaker 1 (14:43):
Any other last words you like to say to our listeners,
Mary Claire Bores.
Speaker 3 (14:49):
I would just like to say, if you've already got
a pet and you're thinking about getting another, one other
thing we do offers you can bring your dog out
here to meet a potential new dog. Will help you
for the that meat and greet so that you can
make sure that your dogs will all get along. That's
a service that we offer for your charge.
Speaker 2 (15:07):
Sounds good.
Speaker 1 (15:07):
And once again, Mary Claire, give out that website so
people can go on and look and get more information.
Speaker 3 (15:15):
Memphisanimalservices dot com.
Speaker 1 (15:18):
Sounds good, Mary Claire, it was such a pleasure talking
with you.
Speaker 3 (15:24):
Absolutely, thank you so much for having us.
Speaker 2 (15:27):
You are quite welcome and have a fabulous day to
day you too, All right? Bye bye.
Speaker 1 (15:35):

the Memphis Animal Services. Y'all need a dog or a
cat or pet, you know where to go. And go
to their website. All right, coming up next it is
our Shelby County Health Director. I can't wait to talk
(15:56):
to her next. Doctor Michelle Taylor with me Bev Johnson
on The Bev Johnson Show on.
Speaker 2 (16:06):
W d i A The Bev Johnson Show, Don't Go Away.
The Bev Johnson Show returns after these messages
