of twenty twenty four. Let's go.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
Welcome to pop Culture Weekly with Kyle McMahon from iHeartRadio

all the movies, TV, music and pop culture you Crabe weekly.
Here's Kyle McMahon.
Speaker 1 (00:39):
Net Na no net Hello, and welcome to pop Culture
Weekly with Kyle McMahon. I of course am Kyle McMahon,
and I thank you once again for joining me in
this brand new episode of pop Culture Weekly and the
first one of twenty twenty five. Amanda, how are you?
Speaker 3 (01:02):
I'm good? How are you?
Speaker 1 (01:03):
I'm doing good? How was your New Year's It was good? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:07):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:08):
Did you do anything fun?
Speaker 3 (01:09):
No? I didn't. I just stayed home and watched movies
and you know, just did that kind of stuff.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
Okay, And then how was your Christmas?
Speaker 3 (01:21):
It was also the same thing.
Speaker 1 (01:23):
Yeah, yeah, did you watch any good movies?
Speaker 3 (01:26):
Well, I watched Night Bitch Amy Adams.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
How was that?
Speaker 3 (01:31):
It was really good?
Speaker 1 (01:32):
Was it?
Speaker 3 (01:32):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:33):
Okay, I haven't seen it yet, but it's on my list.
Speaker 3 (01:36):
So it's like kind of weird looking at it because
it's like about a mom who's really going through the
pressures of I guess society being a good mom. And
it's not normally a movie that I would put on. Yeah,
but I love Amy Adams. Yeah, so I was obviously
going to tune in for it. It's about her turning
(01:57):
into a dog, and I kind of like, you know,
the weird kind of stuff. So I wanted to see
how they would execute that weird plot. Okay, and I
kind of liked it.
Speaker 1 (02:06):
All right, awesome, all right, so I'll bump that up.
I didn't realize that it was about her turning into
a dog.
Speaker 3 (02:12):
Oh yeah, it's in the trailer like she's thinks that
she's going I guess feral.
Speaker 1 (02:17):
Yeah, I thought, yeah, I thought she was, uh, what's
it called? Werewolf?
Speaker 3 (02:22):
No, they kind of go into that direction, but instead
of being a wolf, she's like a dog. You're gonna
look at the movie, You're gonna be like, what the
heck am I watching? Yeah, but I don't think that
it's meant to be taken as seriously as you know,
some people might think it would be. Yeah, but I
just think that it was, you know, a different approach
to I guess, like managing motherhood or parenthood in general.
(02:45):
And it was just like not serious, like it was
kind of funny.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
Okay, I didn't see. I didn't realize that. All right, cool.
Did you watch National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation?
Speaker 4 (02:55):
Now what?
Speaker 1 (02:56):
I thought you had tickets?
Speaker 3 (02:57):
Okay, okay, hold on. When I went to the Regal
app to purchase it, it was gone. Regal didn't. Regal didn't.
I guess it go through.
Speaker 4 (03:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (03:09):
I don't know, Like because I wanted to watch it
on the big screen. It was available on Regal. So
I look on Christmas Eve eve and it's gone, and
I'm thinking to myself, no, like I I swear, I
was ready. I have the unlimited app. I had nothing
to lose. Yeah, So I didn't watch it. I don't know.
(03:30):
I don't know what happened. I told my sister too,
because we were going to watch it together and it
wasn't on hers either, so she was like, oh, they
must have taken it out.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
That is so weird.
Speaker 3 (03:38):
I was so upset.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
Yeah. Now, I mean like, now you have to wait
a whole year.
Speaker 3 (03:42):
Well, I'm probably just gonna watch it, like just get
it over with, Okay. I feel like it's time.
Speaker 1 (03:48):
It is time. It's well passed.
Speaker 3 (03:49):
That's what I get for trying to be spontaneous and
watch it. Like.
Speaker 1 (03:53):
You know, So Squid Game season two came out like
Christmas night or whatever, and I have been like watching
an episode or two a night, and so last night
I was so tired, but I had one episode left
and I had already watched like one and a half episodes,
and I'm like, it's like three am. Yeah, I'm too tired,
(04:15):
Like I couldn't keep my eyes open. And then I'm like,
but I need to know what happens next. It's the
last episode of the season. So I ended up staying
up until like four four thirty or something this morning
and watch it. It is so good. I love Squid
Games so much. You haven't watched the new season yet, right.
Speaker 3 (04:32):
I haven't. It is one season that I do want
to watch because I really enjoyed the first season yeah,
And I don't know. I just feel like I didn't
expect for them to do a season two. I know,
I felt like it was pretty self explanatory in the
season one, but when they announced that they were going
to do a season two, I was really curious to
see how they were execute it. I was thinking to myself, well,
(04:54):
what more could they do besides like another game, like
you've already seen this before, Like what could they bring
that's new? But the trailer looked good.
Speaker 1 (05:01):
It is so good and it's really smart how they
do it. And season three comes out this summer, which
is basically like season two. I feel like it's like
the first half of the story, really of this next
chapter of the story. So like season three, I feel
(05:22):
like it's the second.
Speaker 3 (05:23):
Half of part two, part one exactly.
Speaker 1 (05:26):
It's more like that rather than like season one was,
like you said, self contained. Season two ends on a
cliffhanger that will really like multiple cliffhangers.
Speaker 3 (05:35):
Oh so it's like a continuation for season three exactly.
Speaker 1 (05:39):
Okay, So and apparently they filmed season two and three together.
Oh okay, so it's supposed to be like a whole
cohesive thing. But it's really really good I can't wait
till you watch it so we can talk about it,
because it's Oh my god.
Speaker 3 (05:56):
Are there any new games or are they like the
same games?
Speaker 1 (06:01):
There is a new one, I don't remember one of
them being in the first season, okay, and then there's
some twists on the games.
Speaker 3 (06:10):
Oh no, so okay.
Speaker 1 (06:13):
Yeah, it's awesome. I love it so so much, and
now I have to wait until, you know, some six months,
seven months.
Speaker 3 (06:21):
Well, it's better than waiting I guess two years, because
apparently Netflix is very good for taking their millennia to
like make a new season.
Speaker 1 (06:32):
Yeah, yeah, absolutely, all right, So I have an interview
with the one and only Howie Mandel, which we'll play
in the second half of the episode. But you and
I are going to start off with the best of
twenty twenty four, particularly movies. I have a couple of albums,
but we're really going to focus on the best movies
(06:54):
of twenty twenty four.
Speaker 3 (06:55):
Okay, good, because I probably have one album yeah that
really out to me this year.
Speaker 4 (06:59):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (07:00):
I don't have many, but I have a few that
I feel like I have to Yeah. Well yeah, so
all right, here we go the best of twenty twenty
four In movies. All right. First of all, wow, what
a year in movies?
Speaker 3 (07:21):
Oh, definitely.
Speaker 1 (07:22):
Well, okay, let's start with.
Speaker 3 (07:24):
No, I have a list of like my top five
that is an order of like.
Speaker 1 (07:27):
Oh, in order too. Yeah, okay, I didn't put mine
in order because I don't know that I can.
Speaker 3 (07:33):
No, I can, Okay, I can put mine.
Speaker 1 (07:36):
All right, So what is your number five?
Speaker 3 (07:40):
Okay? My number five is Twisters? Oh I loved Twisters. Yeah,
this year or last year. And when I first watched it,
I was a little bit upset about the tornadoes and
not being as you know, impactful as they were in
the first one. Yeah, but I looked past it because
I thought the story line was pretty good.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (08:01):
When I watched it the second time, you know, I
told myself, you know, this isn't you're being too critical here. Okay,
it is a disaster movie. I understand that, but the storyline,
the acting, like everything was just I don't know. When
I rewatched it again, I found new beauty in it
and I really liked it how everything was executed.
Speaker 1 (08:21):
Yeah, it is. And you and I talked about this
when it came out.
Speaker 3 (08:25):
Yeah, and I think I was hating on it.
Speaker 1 (08:27):
Well, you like loved it, but you hated it.
Speaker 3 (08:29):
I didn't. I hate it. I hated it well. I
hated how the twisters and the tornados they weren't massive,
like yeah, in the first movie, Yo, those things were big,
you know, and the second movie they were like little babies,
like they were like tornados on o zempic, you know,
very skinny. I don't know, it was just very very
(08:49):
like I didn't feel besides that opening scene. The opening
scene was like the only scene where I was like,
oh my goodness, like this is a disaster film, you know.
Speaker 1 (09:00):
But yeah, it it really is a good movie. And
it for me. I saw it in forty X.
Speaker 3 (09:06):
I think I told you that, man, that's what I
wanted to do.
Speaker 1 (09:09):
It was really cool in forty X because it was
like you're shaking, there's wind blowing in your face, You're
like getting like missed at your face. It was like
you're in there. Yeah, it was awesome. So that was
a cool experience. And I do appreciate, like you're saying,
how it had more like of a heartfelt story than
(09:29):
the first one. It did, so it was like, you know,
there was more like character development and story development and
twisters where twist was like your traditional like the story
doesn't really matter, Let's just see stuff expt and stuff,
where this was like, yeah, we have some explosive things
and we have destructive tornadoes, but like we also have
(09:52):
a story here too.
Speaker 3 (09:53):
Yeah. Yeah, it's people trying to get past like trauma
and people trying to like, you know, grow, and it's
just you know, I felt like more connected to the
characters the sequel versus the first one, which I love
the first one obviously, but I do have to say that,
in my opinion, I think the second one has you know,
a bit more you know, storytelling than the first.
Speaker 1 (10:13):
I love that, all right. So for me, now these
aren't in any order. For me, and I have a
top ten, I'll only do the top five just to
match you, okay, But my top my full top ten
you can see at popcultureweekly dot com or on my
letterboxed and there's a link by the way in the
show notes to both my letterboxed and to the article
(10:38):
that has my top ten films of twenty twenty four.
But my letterboxed is Kyle McMahon, Kyle Underscore McMahon. What's yours?
Speaker 3 (10:53):
Mine's is Amanda LEAs Bias l S. Yeah, LS, okay, all.
Speaker 1 (10:58):
Right, awesome, So you can follow Amanda on Letterboxed as well.
All right, so my number five but again these aren't
in any order necessarily. Is Late Night with the Devil?
Speaker 3 (11:10):
Okay?
Speaker 1 (11:11):
Did you see Late Night with the Devil?
Speaker 3 (11:13):
Oh? My god, I probably haven't seen nothing.
Speaker 1 (11:16):
So Late Night with the Devil is so good. And
it is I don't want to say, a low budget
like in a bad way. It's a low budget horror
movie that it's from Shutter, our friends at Shutter. I
love Shutter. Shout out to Shutter, the horror streaming service.
But it was released theatrically and I was so excited
(11:37):
to see it. It's basically like the whole movie is
a live television broadcast from nineteen seventy seven on Halloween Night.
Oh yeah, and so that's like you're watching basically this
live television special of this talk show on Halloween Night.
Speaker 3 (11:58):
That's kind of cool.
Speaker 1 (11:58):
It is really cool. And he ends up having some
the host who is played by David Dasmauchian I hope
I said his name right, who plays Jack Delroy the host.
He has various guests on his talk show, and one
(12:20):
of them is like that brings on like a possessed
guest or something like to do like a possession live
on TV, and it goes from there and it's really
really good. But I am a huge fan of like
those kind of kitchy television broadcasts, and it puts you
(12:41):
right in that you feel like you're in the seventies.
You feel like you're at home watching this live television show,
talk show, late night talk show on Halloween. It's just so.
Speaker 3 (12:55):
Yeah, yeah, it sounds so interesting.
Speaker 1 (12:57):
It really is. It's so good. You can watch it
on Shutter, which is amazing if you don't have it.
Shutter is the streaming horror service from AMC, and I love,
love love Shutter. They have so many good films, not
just a great catalog, but they have so many Shutter
original films like Late Night with the Devil that are
(13:20):
just treats for horror fans. It's also on AMC Plus
if you have that or want to check it out.
So that would be my number five. Okay, yeah, what's
your number four?
Speaker 3 (13:33):
My number four. I had to put a Disney movie
on here because I love Disney and I really love
mal Wana too.
Speaker 1 (13:40):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (13:41):
Malana two was just Okay. First of all, Malana is
one of my favorite Disney characters, if not my favorite
Disney character. So when I found out that they were
going to be doing a second movie from her, I
was so excited because I love her story and I
love everything that you know, her story represents in her
(14:02):
and I think that I just related to her so much.
So when I saw Mowana Io in theaters, immediately, it
immediately was going to be my number, like, you know,
in my top five. Like I didn't care, This movie's
gonna be in my top five no matter what, Like,
no matter what they do, I just love her like
they could not. They could never ruin Moana for me.
Speaker 1 (14:24):
And was it as good as the first one?
Speaker 3 (14:27):
No, okay, but it don't matter, Mona. I mean, I
I love the first one. The first one just is
so nostalgic to me, you know, it's just the first one.
Number one has music by Lima Wo Miranda, which I
love that man. Yeah, and he wasn't involved in Moana
(14:48):
two because I believe that he was doing music for Mufasa.
Speaker 1 (14:51):
Which I just saw and I was not a big fan.
Speaker 3 (14:53):
Yeah, I've heard that. I've heard mixed reviews about it,
but a lot of people are upset because he didn't
do me us from one to two. Yeah, and you
can tell. I think there's like a maybe one to
two songs that I really enjoyed in mo Wana too,
But in the first one it was like bop after bop.
At the bop, you clearly tell that Lynn wasn't involved,
(15:16):
And you know, I love Lenner like I'm one of
his biggest fans, Like Lynn, I love you so much, bro,
like I love you, And I was really upset that
he wasn't in the second one. But you know, it's.
Speaker 1 (15:27):
Whatever, Yeah, crime, I've never seen Malana. Oh my goodness,
I know.
Speaker 3 (15:33):
It is such a beautiful movie and it will make
you cry and think about life really well, maybe for
me because I'm just like, you know, I just love
the ocean, I love nature, I love Polynesian culture. So
maybe for me it's more like I'm taking it like
more seriously. Yeah, but it's it's a movie where it
just makes you think about how you can do things
(15:54):
with no one supporting you. Because the base of the
movie is that she is trying to become away because
that's where her people originated from. But nobody wants to
be a wayfunder anymore because the ocean is kind of wild,
and so she embarks in this journey without knowing anything.
She's basically driving without a license, you know, And it's
(16:14):
like she goes through so much stuff and she finds
herself and she like helps people, and it's a beautiful
story mixed in with like Polonesian culture that I've never seen,
you know, to that extent be brought to life, which
I love, French Polynesia, I love you know, Samoa. I
love all of that kind of stuff, and the people
are just so beautiful. And seeing you know, that culture
(16:37):
be brought to life through a Disney character just really
touched my heart when I first saw it in twenty sixteen,
and I never ever forgot how I felt when I
walked out of the theater of this seeing that movie.
So I wanted two. I love Maana like I don't know.
Speaker 1 (16:50):
So are you excited for Moana the live action?
Speaker 3 (16:55):
Oh? Yes, I love Maana so much. I'm excited for
everything that is involved with her. When I went to
EPKOI in twenty twenty three, they were building the Molana
Journey of the Water experience and I was so I
was close to tears because I wanted to go see
it so bad and it's like, oh my goodness, I
(17:16):
don't know, and I see all these things about it, like,
you know, because it's open now, I want to go
so bad. That will be the first place that I
go to because I just I don't even know what
I would do if I was to go there. I
feel like I would just be so overjoyed because I
just love that character.
Speaker 1 (17:31):
It's interesting because when I was at Disney last month,
I did not do Moana way Up the Water or whatever.
Speaker 3 (17:37):
It's like, goodness, ye should, but.
Speaker 1 (17:39):
I am going back and I will now I'll watch
Molana now for you.
Speaker 3 (17:45):
Oh I love it. I feel like I also really
like it because I'm a big ocean advocate, Like I
love the ocean like I love Since I was a child,
I've had this fascination towards the ocean where I just
you know, want to study, you know, the ocean be everything,
you know, scuba dive and all this stuff. So like
seeing her character felt like watching me on this screen,
like how much he respected and how much she was
(18:06):
you know, like curious how much she appreciated it the ocean.
I was like that's that's really me. That's literally me.
So I was like, you know, it was like seeing
me on this screen. As cheesy as that sounds, but
I was like, I was like, this is just such
a cute story, you know, and I just I don't know,
I just love that. So Moana too. It was definitely
one of my highlights for this year, even though a
(18:28):
lot of people didn't, you know, take a liking towards
it because of the music. For me, you know, music
is a big part of Disney, but I like the
storytelling also, and I feel like the storytelling did make
up for it.
Speaker 1 (18:39):
Okay, all right, cool, So I you have sold me
on Mwana one, so I will watch it. It took
me years to see Coco, I told you, I just
watched it.
Speaker 3 (18:50):
Cocoa is so I feel the same way about Coco,
Like I love Cocoa. Yeah, me too, Like Miguel Hector, Yeah,
when I first saw a movie, I was a Yeah,
I was a wreck.
Speaker 1 (18:59):
Yeah, it's like one of my all time favorite movies ever.
Speaker 3 (19:02):
Now, no, it should be. It's so beautiful and the
meaning is so beautiful and just everything the visuals is
so beautiful, like and I feel like Miguel's with somebody
that a lot of people can relate to as well,
because you know, people have you know, issues with their
family and pursuing what they want to do. So it's like,
you know, a movie where I feel like a lot
of people can see themselves.
Speaker 1 (19:20):
Yeah. Absolutely, it's so beautifully done. All right. So next
up for me is and again this is no order,
Deadpool and Wolverine. You know, okay, you know, I'm a
huge Marvel Studios fan, and I love Ryan Reynolds. I
(19:40):
love Hugh Jackman. I love Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. I
love Ryan Reynolds. It's Deadpool. To have them together in
a Marvel Studios movie, in a movie from Marvel Studios
in the MCU the Marvel Cinematic Universe was like a
dream come true for me, and I absolutely loved it.
Speaker 3 (19:58):
That was my number one is yeah, okay, that was
my number one. So it was like dep Pool Wolverene
was my favorite movie that came out and all twenty four. Yeah,
like that movie. I watched that movie in theaters with
my sister and I just I loved it. Yeah, it
was so freaking funny. Yeah, Like it was just everything
(20:20):
that I ever thought a movie about those two characters
could do. It was done. It was amazingly and I
was like, this movie is like I think this movie
is my top Like I don't know, Like I was
making my list and I was thinking about the movies
that I had the most fun watching the movie that
I never felt boreden and that you know, dep Poolverene,
(20:41):
that's my number one.
Speaker 1 (20:41):
Yeah. I actually saw it twice in like twenty four hours.
I saw it for Thursday when it came out or whatever,
you know, at seven pm or whatever. Then I drove
to Tennessee because I go every month to visit one
of my best friends, Cody, who's out there for and
drove to Tennessee get up with him, and he first
(21:05):
thing I do when I get there is like, let's
go get food and then go see Deadpool Wolver. I'm like,
I saw it last night and he's like oh, and
I'm like, no, I want to say it again. Let's go,
you know what I mean. And I had just as
much fun the second time, Like it is so all
the things that you said are so true. It's like
it's just smart, it's funny, it is exciting. It's like
(21:27):
what a big Hollywood blockbuster should be for me, you know.
And there's so much easter eggs, as there always is
for MCU movies, but especially for this, especially with like
the it's kind of like a love letter and a
goodbye to the Fox x Men movies. So it's like,
(21:50):
you know, shutting down that as it opens up the
door for them in the Marvel Studios movies. It's just
so good. I love it so so so much.
Speaker 3 (22:01):
And I think it's just refreshing because verre we rarely
do movies have humor like them, like you know, and
I love that kind of like dark, sick kind of humor,
and it's you know, they make it work so well,
and it's just so funny because it's not done a lot.
So when you do find a movie that is not
(22:22):
afraid to, you know, take tell jokes that you know,
are not really told, it's extra funny and it makes
it more like, oh, my goodness, like you guys really
did that. And it works because your character is literally,
you know, like that. So it's just I don't know,
it's just so refreshing to find a movie that is
like that, and also with two characters that everyone loves,
(22:44):
including myself. It's like, I don't know, like that movie
would be movie of the year in my book. Yeah,
I don't know. That movie is just so freaking good.
Speaker 1 (22:52):
It's I mean, if I had to place them, especially
going by like how much fun did I have at
the movies in regards to like watching it on the
big screen, it would be that Yeah, yeah, yeah, I
really really did love it, and the Madonna sequence with
like a prayer.
Speaker 3 (23:07):
Oh my goodnesses. You know. Let me say something about Marvel.
I was a massive Marvel fan for the Infinity saga. Listen,
every single Marvel movie that came out. I was front
row up until like Endgame, and I don't know what
happened in Phase four. I really don't know. And you know,
(23:28):
there's been a couple of like shows and movies that
I've watched where I do enjoy you know. I liked WandaVision,
I liked Agatha all along, but nothing really like gave
me the chills, like like like an Infinity saga, you know,
except for Dead Poo Wolverine. Yeah, when I walk out
of dead Pool Wolverine, I felt like my Marvel fan
was awakened. Like as stupid as that sounds, like I
(23:51):
it felt like old times, like if I don't know
if it's because these characters are like, you know, associated
with the old times or what, but I just haven't
felt that like connection or that like interest in Marvel
with this you know, recent phase, except for like de poolvering.
When I walked out, I was like, this is Marvel's back,
Like I don't know. I was just so excited, Like
(24:15):
I don't know, I was. I was so happy.
Speaker 1 (24:17):
Yeah, and the whole sequence with like a prayer. I
just think it's so genius. Yeah, just how they married
that song, which is an iconic song, and the secret
I feel like, you know, it's not really spoilers at
this point because I feel.
Speaker 3 (24:31):
Like everybody, no, you should have watched it by now.
Speaker 1 (24:33):
Yeah, it's just genius the way they marry like a prayer,
with the action that's going on on and like you're
just like.
Speaker 3 (24:42):
The camera words like the spinning. I was, oh my goodness,
I couldn't.
Speaker 1 (24:47):
Yeah, it was incredible.
Speaker 3 (24:49):
It was the outer body experience. It. I was like,
oh my, no way that is happening right now? Oh
my god.
Speaker 1 (24:54):
Yeah. I loved it. So all right, cool, Well what's
your next one?
Speaker 3 (25:04):
And my third one. I'm gonna get so much hate
when I say this movie because everybody hated this movie.
But my third one that I liked it was Joker Too.
Speaker 1 (25:15):
Really, yes, I haven't even seen.
Speaker 3 (25:18):
I loved Joker Too. And I know everyone's gonna hate
me for it because everyone hates this movie. But as
for me in my household, I loved it. I loved
Joker Too. Let me tell you something. That movie was
so good to me. It was a musical, which I
wasn't fond of, I will admit, but I'm not gonna
make that my whole personality. You know. I'm not gonna
(25:39):
be like it's a musical bye. No, I'm gonna give
it a chance. I'm gonna be open minded and I'm
gonna look at it and think, Okay, what are they
offering me here? And I liked it. I enjoyed it.
I had no problem with it. The songs weren't even
that bad in my opinion. And I'm going into Joker
Too with my sister. I watched all my movies or her,
(25:59):
and we both see like the terrible ratings, everyone's hating it,
and we're like, I'm not even excited to see it. No, more,
and we're going in there just to watch, like we're
so discouraged, like you know, you know, it's starting, and
we're just like, what the heck is this, like, you
know whatever, And then the first song plays. I'm listening
to it and I'm looking at the scene and I'm
looking at my sister and I'm like, it's kind of
(26:22):
kind of good. You know, where's the bad? You know?
When my sister is like, it's probably coming, don't worry
about it. So we're like, you know, expecting it to
get bad, but it's like it's good. I'm like, I
don't understand the hate towards it, but I understand that people,
you know, they really are particular about their superheroes, yah,
and they're super villains. So it's like I get it.
(26:45):
But I was looking at it as a way of
like it wasn't about Joker. It was more so about
Arthur Fleck, who was portrayed as Joker. Yeah, so I
don't understand if people thought that it was gonna be
a movie about Joker or like, you know, him embracing
it to the full. But I went in there expecting
it to be a movie about Arthur Fleck and that's
exactly what it was. Okay, it was more so geared
(27:07):
towards Arthur Fleck and like his life and why he
did what he did in the first movie and his
trial and everything, and that's what I expected. I was like, Okay,
Joker is you know, a part of him. But I
think that this movie is gonna be about, you know,
just Arthur just going through you know, you know, what
he went through and explaining why he did what he did.
And that's exactly what it was. But I loved it.
(27:28):
I don't know. The storytelling was good to me. I
love the trial scenes because I love trial stuff like
I love like jury jurisdiction stuff. So it was you know,
I love Lady Gaga, So I was like, I love
Lady Gaga, but I hated her, but I loved her.
I love you, Lady Gaga. Don't worry.
Speaker 1 (27:41):
I love Lady Gaga. I loved The Joker the first one.
I don't know. I was just like, man, I don't know,
but you're so passionate about it that I'll watch her now.
Speaker 3 (27:54):
You're probably gonna hate it, like everyone hates it, like
I I don't know. I liked it, But then again,
I wasn't. I'm not like a big DC fan anyway.
So it's like, I know that people take the Batman
and like the Superman and the Joker stuff, like so seriously,
like they're like very very protective of these characters. So
(28:15):
I can understand why they may be a little bit
upset or a lot upset with how a certain character
that they love is portrayed. But I feel like it
was more so a story about a guy who was
just really lonely and depressed. And that's what I went
into the second movie thinking it was gonna be about,
not really you know, like a superhero. Yeah, yeah, cause,
(28:37):
like I'm not gonna lie. If I went into the
movie thinking it was gonna be about Joker, like you know,
the Joker, I would have hated that movie, you know
what I mean, Like this movie is ass, you know,
but I don't know. I thought it was gonna be
about Arthur and it was, and I was like, this
is a sad story, you know, this is just like
a sad drama. But I like sad dramas, so it's
(28:58):
like okay, but yeah.
Speaker 1 (29:00):
All right, all right, well you've convinced me on that
one too, Nowana and Joker, Joker, Joker, How do you
say it?
Speaker 3 (29:09):
Fall, I don't know, I just say Joker too. A
lot of Like I'm looking at my list, and all
of my movies that I like, except for The Pool Rent,
are all sequels, Twisters to m Wana to Joker Too.
And my next one's going to be a sequel, okay,
And I'm like, man, you're the sequel. I normally hate sequels,
so I'm like really surprised to see me.
Speaker 1 (29:32):
Sequel. Okay. Well, I'm gonna tell you mine, and I
wonder if it's my next one, and I wonder if
it's gonna be your next one. Inside Out Too.
Speaker 3 (29:40):
Oh no it's not. I don't watch it. No, I
don't watched it.
Speaker 1 (29:46):
Have you seen Inside Out one?
Speaker 3 (29:47):
Yes? I have?
Speaker 1 (29:49):
Oh my god, did you like it?
Speaker 3 (29:50):
Loved it?
Speaker 1 (29:51):
You've got to see Inside Out Too?
Speaker 3 (29:53):
You know. It's that movie where it's like, I'm gonna
watch it soon.
Speaker 1 (29:56):
It's so good. And Anxiety is like the new character
and the new characters. Yeah, well that's like me, Like
I'm literally the Anxiety character.
Speaker 3 (30:10):
Yeah. I feel like I'm the Purple.
Speaker 1 (30:12):
One, the Mopi one. Yeah, I forget, I forget.
Speaker 3 (30:15):
The new one, the purple.
Speaker 1 (30:19):
Yes.
Speaker 3 (30:20):
I feel like I feel like the purple one would
be mew yeah. Yeah. He just always or they, I
don't know where she she just always seems like just
getting through life. Yeah, And I feel like that's my motto,
just getting through life less. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (30:38):
Like, yeah, I just loved it. It is It expands,
obviously the world of Inside Out, and then it is
so beautifully done, like it's beautiful to look at. The
story is so tight that it's hysterically funny. You care
about the characters, you care about the emotions literally, and
(31:04):
it's just so amazingly done that it's absolutely one of
my favorites of the year.
Speaker 3 (31:11):
I've heard a lot of good reviews on it. I
don't think I've heard many bad reviews, if not any
at all for other people that I've watched.
Speaker 1 (31:17):
You've got to add that to your list. So now
you have Christmas Vacation, you have Late Night with the Devil,
and you have an Inside Out too. Oh my goodness,
get to getting what's your next one?
Speaker 3 (31:30):
Okay, I'm very passionate about this movie. Okay, smile too.
I'm obsessed. I'm obsessed. There is not a movie that
had me more obsessed besides the Polverine and Smile Too. Really, yes,
have you seen it?
Speaker 1 (31:48):
I have not.
Speaker 3 (31:49):
Mine goodness, that movie messed me up so bad, Like
I love psychological thrillers and horrors, and Smile Too in particular,
was just one of the movies that I watched in
the theater where I literally was just my apple watch
(32:10):
was telling me to breathe every five seconds. I don't know,
I just love that movie. First of all, I love
Naomi Scott. Naomi Scott's acting performance in that movie had
me in a choke hold, like she just looked so
terrified and she just portrayed that emotion so well. I
don't know, I have never seen her act that way.
(32:32):
She needs to win something, like when that movie ended, I,
oh no, I'm not. When that movie ended, I was like,
if she doesn't win something, I'm gonna have to do something.
I'm at the email, I'm gonna have to start a movement.
I'm gonna have to I don't know what I'm gonna do.
But if she does not win something for that acting performance,
(32:53):
why why? Like that movie was just so freaking good
to me and I don't know. That was definitely one
of the highlights of my year.
Speaker 1 (33:03):
Okay, so obviously you saw Smile one.
Speaker 3 (33:06):
Yeah, and which I actually didn't like that much.
Speaker 1 (33:11):
Interesting, Okay, so I didn't love Smile one either. That's
why I didn't see Smile two.
Speaker 3 (33:16):
No, Okay, listen, I get it. I get a Smile one.
It wasn't that good. Let's be honest. But when people
say that Smile two was better and scarier, it is
true because I went into say, I went into the
movie theater thinking the same thing with Joker. Joker. I
was like, okay, I didn't like Smile one, Like, I'm
not gonna like this one. No, this movie does a
(33:38):
whole three sixty Like it is so freaking amazing the
way that they told this story. The story is more,
you know, in depth. I don't know. It's very interesting
because sky Riley, the main character, she's a pop star,
and she's a pop star that has this this curse,
you know, so it's like she's trying to manage her
tour life and you know, her face while going through this,
(34:01):
which I feel like it is such a unique take
versus like a regular person like, no, this is a
this is a you know, influencer. This is like a
like an icon in the society that she's in. Yeah,
you know, so it's like she's very well known and
it's like she's spiraling out of control and it's like,
I don't know, like when she does things, you're more like,
oh my god, how is the public going to react
to that versus.
Speaker 1 (34:21):
Like the random person invested?
Speaker 2 (34:23):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (34:24):
Because of the angle? Yeah, okay, is it is a
unique angle.
Speaker 3 (34:28):
Yeah, And it's like so freaking interesting how she did
it and how Naomi Scott portrayed character. I don't know.
It was just I love that movie. I've watched it
like three times and I'm still in awe of her performance.
But it's good. You should watch it tonight, like watch
(34:49):
it like it's that good to me.
Speaker 1 (34:52):
Yeah, yeah, no, I get it.
Speaker 3 (34:53):
And the music is great too, all because they actually
have like have you seen trap By? Yeah, so you
know how Lady Raven has like songs and stuff like that,
it's the same thing. So sky Riley has songs also
that I really like. Okay, you know, she's like a
little pop girl, you know, and she kind of reminds
me of like a like a Lady Gaga. She's kind
of like spunky, and she has like cool outfits and
(35:14):
like her aesthetic is kind of cool. So it's like
the music is good, you know, very pop, very like
two thousands kind of vibe, and it's like her style
is just so like rock star kind of. I don't like,
she's just such a cool character. Okay, you know, I
don't know. I was just so invested. I don't think
I've ever been that invested in a single person storyline
(35:36):
in a movie in a while, honestly, Okay, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (35:41):
I love that all right, Well I'm adding that to
my list now too. Yeah, all right, So next up
for me, Long Legs.
Speaker 3 (35:49):
Oh I didn't see that one, Oh my god, but
I hear that my friend watched it and she really
liked it.
Speaker 1 (35:55):
It is I don't want to say straight up terrifying.
It's terrifying, but not in like your typical horror way.
It's more terrifying, like unsettling, disturbing, sticks with you, you know,
Friday the Thirteenth franchise. Like I'm a huge Jason Vorhees
(36:15):
fan and a huge Michael Myers fan, but like for me,
those end, the scariness ends when the movie ends. Long
Legs is like, it's just that type of thing that
first of all, I didn't know that Nicholas Cage was
in it. It was I want to say, yeah, but
I didn't know that he does not look like him
(36:35):
at all. Yeah, the makeup is crazy. And it was
like when I left and I'm like, the actor, whoever
that was? Sounds familiar, but I know that voice.
Speaker 3 (36:47):
But you couldn't put it, yeah, put it together.
Speaker 1 (36:49):
So then when I looked and I'm like, wait, no,
you know, and then I like googled it more and
I'm like, that is him? Holy crap? It is you
like true crime stuff?
Speaker 3 (37:02):
Oh? I love true crime.
Speaker 1 (37:03):
So it reminds me of like a fake true crime
okay thing, you know what I mean. It's like that
kind of vibe. But it's very unsettling. It's very disturbing.
It's very is he outside my window? You know what
I mean?
Speaker 3 (37:17):
Like is he like, is he like a real person
in real life? No? Like is he? Is it serial killer? Right?
Speaker 1 (37:24):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (37:24):
Okay? So is it like a real person?
Speaker 1 (37:27):
Oh yeah, it's not like a ghost or yeah.
Speaker 3 (37:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (37:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (37:30):
You know.
Speaker 1 (37:30):
It has to do with the occult and this FBI
agent is kind of following this these kind of clues
that he's leaving for her.
Speaker 3 (37:41):
Oh, he's leaving them for her.
Speaker 1 (37:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (37:43):
Oh it is. So it's nothing like supernatural. It's just
basically like true crime, like a real person kind of.
Speaker 1 (37:52):
Yeah, exactly, because I.
Speaker 3 (37:54):
Thought there was some sort of supernatural aspect to it.
Speaker 1 (37:57):
I mean, not that I remember, Okay. But and it's
written by and directed by Osgood Perkins, who's like one
of my new favorite creatives in the industry. He has
directed and wrote long Legs. He did an episode of
The twilight Zone back in twenty twenty. Gretel and Hansel.
(38:17):
I don't know if you saw that one. O, my god.
Speaker 3 (38:19):
Wait, I literally just watched a hansl I'm grot a movie.
Speaker 1 (38:23):
Was it Gretel and Hansel?
Speaker 3 (38:24):
No? I think it was Hansel and Gretel. It was
like one of it was stupid. It was like a
twenty and eight.
Speaker 1 (38:29):
Oh no, this is twenty twenty, and it's very creepy
and weird and disturbing. It's a good one, Gretel and Hansel.
But he he directed that, okay. Uh, and he's also
doing the Monkey, which is coming up. I think that
comes out it does? It comes out in February.
Speaker 3 (38:48):
I've seen.
Speaker 1 (38:49):
Yeah, he wrote and directed that based on a Stephen
King story. Yeah, and that looks really crazy, but uh,
he's one of my favorite up and coming directors. I
really love him and he if you are into true crime, crime,
if you're into horror, if you're into serial killer stuff,
(39:11):
it is really really good.
Speaker 3 (39:13):
That's everything that I like. Yeah, literally everything I like.
Speaker 1 (39:16):
Yeah, you will love Long Legs and you've got to
watch it.
Speaker 3 (39:19):
Okay, Okay, I'll add that.
Speaker 1 (39:21):
What's your next one?
Speaker 3 (39:22):
That it Woverine my number one? Oh oh so I
did my top five?
Speaker 1 (39:27):
Okay, well my last one and again in no order.
I mean I would say Depo and Wolverine if I
had to pick a number one of the year. But
my my last choice pick is No Sfaratu.
Speaker 3 (39:41):
Oh yeah. Everyone's talking about that movie right now. It's
like every time I log into social media, every if
somebody's talking about it.
Speaker 1 (39:49):
You have got to see it. It is so good.
It is. It's a essentially shot for shot remake of
the silent film from like what the nineteen two wasn't
nineteen twenty two? Look at you with your because.
Speaker 3 (40:09):
I saw a letterbox the original one, and I was like,
who's this?
Speaker 1 (40:15):
It is like a shot for shot remake of it,
but it kind of expands the story in some ways,
and it's Gothic horror. And the the actual original Silent
film was basically a knockoff of Dracula. In fact, there
was like the Dracula story. Yeah, and in fact there
was some kind of scandal where they were like, you're
basically ripping off Dracula.
Speaker 3 (40:35):
I've heard a little bit about that.
Speaker 1 (40:37):
Yeah. So this one is done by Robert Edgars who
Robert Eggers is like another one of my new kind
of up and coming favorites. I mean, I'm saying up
and coming. He's been doing stuff for ten years. But
he did The Witch, which I don't know if you've
ever seen that movie, that's crazy. The Wight House with
(41:01):
Robert Pattinson.
Speaker 3 (41:02):
Oh no, I haven't seen it, but I know of it.
Speaker 1 (41:05):
Oh, that's another good one. The Northman, which is great,
that's more of an actiony film. And then Nosparratu. He
is insanely talented. He's one of my favorite directors and writers.
And Nosparatu is just like a love letter to not
(41:25):
just classic horror, but it's a love letter to like
gothic horror. It's a love letter to Classic car. It's
a love letter to vampires. It is so beautifully done
and insanely good that oh my god, it's just so good.
Bill Skarsgard, who you know, he Pennywise, Yeah, I love him.
(41:50):
He plays Count Orlock, who is the vampire figure in
the film, And basically it's about the real estate agent
in the eighteen thirties, Thomas, who travels to Transylvania to
meet with Count Orlock, who is essentially gonna be maybe
(42:12):
his client. So Count Orlock is interested in buying property
and so he's a real estate agent, so he goes
there to discuss with him about buying this property and
it goes from there and it is it. I screamed
three different times in the theater, like a little no way. Yeah,
I was like like three different times. It is really scary.
(42:37):
And people online are talking about count Orlock's dong. I
don't know if you've seen this what yeah, because there
is a scene.
Speaker 3 (42:46):
The only things that I've seen on social media is
the main character girl just having seizures.
Speaker 1 (42:53):
Oh okay, that's all I wrote, de Dep's daughter.
Speaker 3 (42:57):
Yeah, yeah, that's all I've seen is just like people
making memes of her.
Speaker 1 (43:02):
Yeah, here is with I guess the cutout of the dong.
I don't know. It's not even his dong, so I'm
confused about that. And Andrew Taylor Johnson is in it,
who I actually love. Yeah, I love the whole the
whole cast. Williem Dafoe is in it. Lily Rose Depp,
(43:24):
Nicholas Halt, Bill Scarsguard, Aaron Taylor Johnson, Willem Dafoe is
in it. Who. He's amazing. He plays a great character too.
It's just so good.
Speaker 3 (43:36):
That why is it called.
Speaker 1 (43:41):
Nas feratu is the Romanian word for vampire? Oh? Okay, yeah,
it's so good. Oh my god, it's I love it.
That's one I'll be buying on four K like the
Blu Ray okay, yeah, because it's one that I'll want
to watch on a and screen with surrounds out in
(44:01):
my house and like the best quality possible. Like it's
that good. So that is my last choice.
Speaker 3 (44:10):
Did you have like five more?
Speaker 1 (44:12):
Yes? But they are exclusively on the blog and on
my letterbox because you know, why not exactly, why not
go find it exactly?
Speaker 3 (44:24):
Go find it.
Speaker 1 (44:24):
Guys now quickly. Then I have an interview with Howie
Mandel a few albums.
Speaker 3 (44:31):
I just got one one post Malone's one that is
it and a discussion that is album of the year.
I don't care when no one says post Malone actually
had dream abou Postlone last night?
Speaker 1 (44:47):
Did you yeah?
Speaker 3 (44:47):
I dream he was my brother. It was so weird.
I how did you hear my brother? I don't know.
Speaker 1 (44:53):
I love you, yeah, and I love them too. But
that's on my list too. So I have three albums
on my I'm sorry, four albums on my list of
best albums of the year. F one trillion post Malone,
particularly the extent, the Expanded Edition, the Long Bad Edition,
just like what the extra nine songs always because sometimes
(45:14):
when people have like, oh, here's an expanded edition with
ten new songs, it's like filler. Every song on the
Long Bed version is awesome too, you know what I mean?
So love that gn X by Kendrick Lamar.
Speaker 3 (45:29):
I haven't heard it. I haven't heard it, Mustard, I
must be getting old.
Speaker 1 (45:40):
Okay, Well, no, I feel like an idiot for doing that.
I don't you have no idea what I'm talking about. No,
the memes with Mustard, No.
Speaker 3 (45:48):
I don't what memes. I guess I'm too old for this.
Speaker 1 (45:53):
I'm older than you.
Speaker 3 (45:55):
I don't know. I don't know.
Speaker 1 (45:57):
Do you not like Kendrick?
Speaker 3 (45:59):
I mean I really listened to him like that.
Speaker 1 (46:01):
Really, I think he's a musical genius.
Speaker 3 (46:03):
Yeah, so I love I've listened to a few songs,
but like you know, it's not like artist that I
ever got really into.
Speaker 1 (46:09):
Okay, all right, so I can see that. Then, so
me screaming Mustard.
Speaker 3 (46:15):
Yeah, I have no idea what you're talking about it,
So it's.
Speaker 1 (46:17):
In So Mustard is one of the producers of the album.
So in the middle of one of the songs on
the album, he just screams Mustard for like five seconds.
So it became like a meme because people were like Mustard.
But anyway, the other one for me is Kylie Minogue
Tension two, which I really do love Kylie Minogue and
(46:40):
I think it's criminal that she is not, as she's
like huge everywhere in the world except for America. And
remember that song Padam Padam. Yeah, so that was off
Tension one last year. Well, I guess two years ago
now twenty twenty three. Tension two has a bunch of
bops as well, and I love that, like it's not
(47:02):
often you see like a direct sequel to an album
as the next album. Yeah, I mean it's not often
you see it a direct sequel to an album anyway.
But then to like have one that comes out their
next album is a sequel to that last album.
Speaker 3 (47:17):
I probably have like a few artists that are like that,
like have sequels.
Speaker 1 (47:22):
Yeah, yeah, I mean it does happen, but like it's
not super common, no, But then it's definitely not common
to like, oh, I release Tension one in twenty twenty three,
and then I release Tension twenty or Tension two and
twenty twenty foot you know what I'm exactly. So on
Tension two, there's this song Lights Camera Action, which is
(47:42):
really great, and then the song My O My with
Beabe Rexa and Tovlo.
Speaker 3 (47:48):
Oh I think I've heard that song before.
Speaker 1 (47:50):
Yeah, it's that songs a bop. Yeah, And so I
really really love that album. So that's on my list
of best albums of twenty twenty four. And then Siya
released her album Reasonable Woman. It was her first solo
album in eight years, and I love Sea as a writer,
(48:14):
as a songwriter, as a producer, as a singer. I mean,
she's amazingly talented, and that's like why I think I
love her so much is because not just is her
voice incredible, but she's an incredible writer. You know, She's
just such a creative person. And so I feel like
this album, Reasonable Woman didn't get like its props like
(48:39):
her previous albums did. Like it kind of like fell
through the cracks, and that's so criminal to me. But
I love her and that album is awesome and I'd
been waiting eight years for it and it finally came,
And so Reasonable Woman is my fourth and final top
(49:01):
music of the year. There you go, now finally, and
I'm totally putting you on the spot for this. What
was there any TV that was your favorite of the
twenty twenty four.
Speaker 3 (49:12):
I really liked House of the Dragon, okay, the Game
of Thrones prequel, Yeah, and I really enjoyed Agatha all along.
Speaker 1 (49:23):
So mine was gonna be Square Game season two and
Agatha all along.
Speaker 3 (49:26):
I loved.
Speaker 1 (49:28):
It is so good that show.
Speaker 3 (49:32):
Oh my goodness, Yeah, I don't even know. Chills, yeah, chills,
Like I just love that show so much. And I
don't know, I just I love Agatha as a person.
Her personality is just so funny and so quirky, you know,
like she's just there is no woman in the MCU
(49:52):
that's like her.
Speaker 1 (49:53):
No, not at all. And she doesn't break the fourth
wall as much as Deadpool does, but she reminds me
of like a Witch, the female Deadpool. Yeah, with like
that same kind.
Speaker 3 (50:03):
Of humor, exact personality.
Speaker 1 (50:06):
Yeah, I love her, So Catherine Han, nobody can play.
Nobody could have played as well as she does. No One,
and I can't wait to see what happens with her
and the MCU going forward.
Speaker 3 (50:20):
Me too.
Speaker 1 (50:21):
I love Agatha all along. I loved the whole thing.
It was so smart. It's my second favorite MCU show,
along with Wanda Vision.
Speaker 3 (50:33):
We're the same person, yeah, because WandaVision is also my
first and then I fall along is right and second. Yep,
I just love well. I feel like I have an
emotional attachment to Wanda because she was the one. The
Maximum siblings were the ones that got me into the MCU. Okay,
so I got into Marvel because of Age of Ultron.
I really liked it the Twins. Yeah, So I just
(50:55):
feel like I've loved Wanda since Age of Ultron and
back when she had accent, that when she had an
accent that I am still so bitter and pissed that
they don't let her do anymore. Oh my god, because
I feel like Wanda is such a menacing character. Yeah,
that her accent would make her like ten times more
like scared.
Speaker 1 (51:15):
Yeah you know what I mean?
Speaker 3 (51:16):
Yeah, like I don't know, like be here, she's talking
like a suburban mom. No, like give me the you
know what I mean?
Speaker 1 (51:25):
Yeah I do, I absolutely, I don't know.
Speaker 3 (51:27):
Like Acathol along just everything was just the storytelling was
just so good.
Speaker 1 (51:31):
Yeah, it really was.
Speaker 3 (51:32):
I just loved it, and I love I'll be Plaza too.
She's so freaking amazing from and from Delaware. Everybody was
just so good yeast in this, in this, in this show.
Speaker 1 (51:43):
Yeah, I don't know, even Patty Laone, Yeah, she was like.
Speaker 3 (51:46):
My goodness belting out those notes.
Speaker 1 (51:49):
Yeah, every every even the lady from that seventy show,
I forget her name. She was like the the the
garden neighbor. You know what I'm talking about, Missus Hart, Yes,
Missus Hart. Yeah. Yeah, it was just I love that
movie series and I can't wait to see what they
do next. Yeah, with all of those characters, to be honest,
(52:12):
so all right, We're gonna take a break and then
I have an interview with the one and only Howie Mandel.
Will be back in sixty all right. So that was
our best of twenty twenty four movies, a couple of albums,
(52:36):
and couple of shows. I'm excited to talk to Howie Mandel.
Do you watch America Scott Talent? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (52:42):
Every season. I said it when I was young.
Speaker 1 (52:45):
How can you not, like, you know, there's just there's
so many talented people in America. And I heard that
Howie might have something for us regarding auditions. I don't
know like what that's about, but I'm excited to So
let's jump right into my interview with the one and
only Howie Mandel. How are you, Howie, I'm doing good.
Speaker 4 (53:10):
How are you?
Speaker 1 (53:11):
I'm well? Thank you, Thank you so much for speaking
with me. I appreciate it, my pleasure. So you are
preparing for auditions right now for the twentieth season of
America's Got Talent?
Speaker 4 (53:22):
Right, We're looking to get people to auditions. There are
certain live dates that they can go and show up
and do and show the producers their wares or if
they can make it. From now till February. If they
record themselves, they can send a tape into agtauditions dot
Com and they'll and they'll be seen, and hopefully they
(53:45):
get on the show, and then I get to judge them,
and then they get to be the winner and get
a million dollars.
Speaker 1 (53:52):
I love, I love that you have been kind enough
to give us three passes to front of the line
for auditions, right right.
Speaker 4 (54:00):
So if you think you have what it takes to
be on the next season, you guys are giving away
front of the line passes for the online audition taking
place on January twenty fourth, where you'll virtually meet an
AGT producer, the person who makes the decision of whether
you're going to get on the show or not. You know, listen,
every year, tens of thousands of people auditioned, so they
(54:24):
kind of lead out what they believe is worthy and
what could be worthy. Is anybody any age doing anything?
You know, We're not just a singing or a dancing competition.
It could be anything, you know. There was a guy
by the name of Horse a few years back whose
thing was he could get kicked in another region. He
(54:46):
didn't win the show, but he ended up with six
episodes on MTV that was like a jackass show. A
lot of these people go on and do things and
if nothing else, raise awareness to who they are and
at least start a career. You mean, only one act
per season wins the million dollars and becomes like the
(55:07):
janitor last year, Richard Goodall Goodall. But a lot of
people go on. If you go down the strip in Vegas,
every second hotel, the room is an AGT name and
not necessarily somebody who won. You know, if the magic
Dragon has his own room, he didn't win, he's funny,
(55:27):
he does magic. He's been playing there forever. Jabawakies. I
don't know if people realize that they were also AGT contestants.
So it doesn't matter what you do. You got to
just give it a shot.
Speaker 1 (55:40):
And who do you?
Speaker 4 (55:41):
In fact? Really Goodall is now not only a million
dollar winner, and his life has changed forever. He's opening
for me.
Speaker 1 (55:47):
That is awesome.
Speaker 4 (55:48):
Stand up. I'm touring now. If you want to know
where I am, go to Howie Mandel dot com. I'm
touring a lot with Arcinio Hall.
Speaker 1 (55:55):
Yes, yes, and your tour you're hitting all across the country.
You're going from California to Jersey to Maryland and everywhere
in between.
Speaker 4 (56:03):
Yeah. Yeah, and if you if you want to come
see me on tour, don't bring the kids. It's not
the same as AGT or Deal or No Deal, which
starts again in January, because it's not a network TV,
so I don't really edit myself, right, you know. So
it's definitely adult fair, you know. And then it's also
adult fare on my podcast. I do a podcast with
my daughter called Howie Mandel Does Stuff.
Speaker 1 (56:24):
Yes, I love it podcast.
Speaker 4 (56:26):
You should subscribe to that. Or I do one with
Harlan Williams too called When a Stranger Calls.
Speaker 1 (56:31):
And what do you love about doing the podcast? It's
just how he uncut doing whatever he wants to do.
Speaker 4 (56:38):
I like to, you know, I get to sit with
my daughter and meet people and hear things and things happen.
It kind of is uncut. Dana White walked off. I'm
still trying to figure out why Billy Corrigan last week
told a story he's never told anybody that made headlines
all over the nation about him and Bill Burr. Maybe related.
(56:59):
I don't know what that's about. We have a lot,
you know, people come in Michael Bougla came in and
jammed with my band. Honey in the Black Pack is
a band that I found on TikTok that is now
our house band of the podcast. Like anything can happen.
There are no rules, no rhyme, no reason to whatever happens.
We just have a good time and I get to
see with my kids.
Speaker 1 (57:18):
Yeah, and it's a bit different than network television, right.
Speaker 4 (57:22):
It's nothing like network television.
Speaker 1 (57:25):
And do you like that? You know, with your career
you do so many different things from the live experiences
on the tour, to agt to the game show to
the podcast, all of the things that you do. Are
they all just different outlets for different parts of how
he Mandel the creative?
Speaker 4 (57:44):
I guess so, yeah. I mean, first and foremost, I'm
a stand up and that's what I do. And then
how a Mandel the stand up gets to host the show,
gets to judge a show, gets to produce a show,
and gets to sit with my kid and talk about
the show.
Speaker 1 (58:00):
Yeah, that's awesome. That's awesome. And I got to ask
you about Bobby's World that was such an integral part
of my childhood and I just love it so much.
And you had talked at one point about trying to
bring it back. Where where how does that stand today?
Speaker 4 (58:15):
Still trying. I'm still trying. If you hear of anything,
I'm always in talks and there's always people talking to
me about doing things. I have a band on my podcast,
Sunning the Blackpack. We're gonna we're going to try to
release an album of weird nursery rhymes with Bobby. But
I'm always working on that and hopefully something will come
(58:37):
to Fruition too.
Speaker 1 (58:38):
Yeah. Yeah, I will be the first in line to
watch that. It's just such an amazing show that need
you know, we need a revival of it, especially today.
For you, for Aget, what do you typically look for?
You know, like because you do see so many kinds
of acts, but you also come from s end up.
(59:00):
Do you feel you know you have a soft spot
for stand up or are you able to say, hey,
you're amazing, I want you as a singer or whatever.
Speaker 4 (59:11):
I have a soft spot for stat that because I
don't think that people realize how much goes into that
and how great it is that you can walk out
in front of thousands of strangers and millions of people
online and make them laugh after you follow somebody who's
been hanging, you know, thirty feet in the air and
lighting themselves on fire. I look like it compares, but
it kind of feels the same. Yeah, But what I
(59:33):
look for is to be surprised. I look for hearing
and seeing something that I've never seen before by somebody
you wouldn't expect to do it in a way that's
never been done, in the way that Richard Goodall, which
is his middle aged janitor who's been you know, working
his whole life in an elementary school and just singing
(59:53):
for the kids with somebody recorded and put up on
TikTok and ended up going viral. We saw our producer
saw it him on the show. He's never even been
on a plane, and now his life has changed forever,
I think. And then to sit in the room and
watch him sing live with Journey was not only his
dream come true. You just go wow, You just it's
(01:00:14):
a wow moment. So I just look for all these
wow moments. And it doesn't have to be music. It
could be comedy, it could be magic, it could be contortion,
it could be somebody getting kicked in their special parts.
You know, it doesn't matter. It's just like something that
makes you say.
Speaker 1 (01:00:30):
Wow, I love that. And I got to ask you,
with everything that you're doing, what do you do for
downtime or are some of these things outlets for you
for downtime?
Speaker 4 (01:00:41):
Downtime is stand up comedy. I love stand up comedy.
I don't want to do nothing. Nothing is not good.
I don't like quiet, so I'm online, either posting on
bigtok or Instagram or scrolling through it. I don't have downtime.
I don't want downtime. I think sleep is probably downtime.
(01:01:01):
While you're up, send an audition to AGT Auditions dot com.
Speaker 1 (01:01:06):
Yes, and go and see the tour dates. Howiemandel dot com.
Go to AGT Auditions dot com and get your video
in and we have three. Thank you to you, Howie
for these three front of the line passes for AGT Auditions.
Alimandel your a legend. Thank you so much for speaking
with me. Pre Holi Mendel. I can't believe that he
(01:01:34):
gave three passes to the front of the line for auditions.
Speaker 3 (01:01:38):
That is crazy talk.
Speaker 1 (01:01:41):
I know that. So three of you right now can
go to Popcultureweekly dot com and enter if you think
you have what it takes to compete in America's Got Talent,
a huge show where so many big performers have come
from that are literally playing, you know, on stages across
(01:02:03):
the country right now. Thanks to Howie Mandel, we have
three front of the line passes. Three of you can
get your chance to get to the front of the
line to a producer for your very own audition for
America's Got Talent. I can guarantee you an audition, which
(01:02:26):
is pretty wild, so I'm really excited about that. You
can go to agtauditions dot com to get more information,
but head to Popcultureweekly dot com and enter the contest,
and I guarantee you that three of you will get
to the front of the line with producers. It's pretty wild.
(01:02:47):
So all right, that's our show for this episode.
Speaker 3 (01:02:52):
Amazing, amazing. Yeah, I loved it.
Speaker 1 (01:02:56):
Recap ten out of ten. I give it a ten
out of ten, but I give every episode of ten
out of ten. All right, so that's our episode for
this week. I will see you next week. We got
a lot of cool stuff coming up. I love you,
see you next week.
Speaker 2 (01:03:14):
Thank you for listening to pop Culture Weekly. Here all
the latest at popcultureweekly dot com.
