Stop It Threat.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
What's up you guys?
Speaker 4 (00:25):
Welcome back into iHeartRadio's official wrestling podcast, the Battleground Podcast.
In his Battle it is Eli and TNA Wrestling is
making it's long away to return Saint Joseph, Missouri for
the first time and well more fingers than I can
have on my hands twelve years, that's right, two nights
March twenty eighth, twenty ninth, the Saint Joseph Civic Arena
(00:47):
is going to be rocking with high energy ACTU Pack
pro wrestling, including the first ever televised TNA event from
Saint Joe. And Today on the show, we've got two legends,
two risk takers, two of the most iconic high liars
in wrestling history. We got Matt, we got Jeff. You
know them as the Hardy Boys. Welcome to the show, guys.
Speaker 1 (01:06):
How are you We're good?
Speaker 5 (01:07):
How are you guys?
Speaker 1 (01:08):
Man?
Speaker 5 (01:08):
You guys doing all right?
Speaker 1 (01:11):
We are very excited.
Speaker 4 (01:12):
I know we've had you guys here on the show
quite a few times here recently and great to always
have you guys back on. And I want to jump
right into this one because everybody's been talking about it.
Your recent title defense against the NXT Tag Team champions
Phraxium at ww's Roadblock event was a significant moment. How
(01:32):
did it feel to take those TNA championships and showcase
them on such a prominent WW platform for the world
to see?
Speaker 5 (01:41):
It was great.
Speaker 3 (01:41):
The whole NXC experience for us was just just amazing
all the way around. And we went in there with
a lot of pride, with a little of confidence, and
we put our titles on the line.
Speaker 5 (01:50):
You know, they were very lucky their.
Speaker 3 (01:52):
NXT titles weren't on the line because they were We
beat double champs NXT and TNA champs right now, But
I'm thinking, because we did defeat them, maybe that puts
us line like an XC title shot, you think.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
I think that, And maybe your name mayle to some
of that, you know, But yeah, piggybacking off that, are
you guys envious at all of the performance Center? Like
you guys didn't have anything like that when you were
coming up. Are you a little envious? Like, geez, this
would have been a game changer?
Speaker 6 (02:20):
No, not really, I'm.
Speaker 5 (02:22):
Not envious at all.
Speaker 6 (02:23):
That was the first time Matt had ever been there,
which kind of blew my mind because back during the
pandemic we were there all the time, in the very
early stages of it when the world shut down. Yeah,
it was over all, the few weeks we did NXT
was super special.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
That's killing man. Well, Matt, you mentioned that you and
Jeff feel new and fresh during this T and A run.
Can you elaborate on what's contributing to this maybe renewed
energy and how Teenager Sergeant has impact your performances.
Speaker 3 (02:51):
I mean, I think our relationship with TNA has been
a mutual admiration society in many ways. I think TNA
was starting to going to resurgence and we were able
to be a part of that. And I think the
Hardy's being there also helps strengthen their resurgence in many ways,
because we're kind of in a resurgence of our own,
like we've been put in a position. The thing I
(03:12):
have to compliment TNA on the most and I will
also give a n XT credit as well. The chef
Shawn Michaels, he was cooking. But at TNA, they have
put us in a position to succeed and considering we're
like a legacy act. If you utilize us in the
right way. Uh, it's really easy to do and TNA
has done it perfect to a tie thus far.
Speaker 2 (03:30):
And last time we talked to you, guys mentioned I mean,
you guys are continually to innovate. I mean you're not
resting order the Laurels. You're developing new things. That's that's
a sign of a hungry talent.
Speaker 5 (03:40):
You know. You guys like the plot to us, that's
our new Yeah.
Speaker 4 (03:43):
Yeah, you were telling us about that last time. You're like,
we've got this new move trying out. We're not gonna
tell you about it. You're just gonna have to watch.
And then I was like, I texted Eli, was like,
there's that move there.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
Tell us about that. They wouldn't give us any more details.
Speaker 4 (03:54):
They just said watch DNA, but man, fantastic stuff. And
you know, you think about the Hardys. You obviously think
about also the Dudley Boys, and I know Bubba Ray
or Bully Ray depending on who you talk to, has
expressed interest in reigniting the historic rivalry between the Dudley's
(04:15):
and the Hardys for one final match. How do you
feel about potentially revisiting this iconic feuden What would it
mean for both teams at this stage in your careers.
Speaker 5 (04:26):
Please, I think we're ready. Are you ready? Yeah? Yeah, myself, Jeff,
We're one hundred percent ready. We're up every morning.
Speaker 3 (04:31):
We're doing our ice bats, our cold plunges, we're busting
our ass, we're working out, we're trying to stay in
tip top.
Speaker 5 (04:37):
Shape to be middle aged men. We are ready. We
would love to face the middle aged Dudley.
Speaker 3 (04:42):
So as long as Bully and Devon they're ready to
rock and roll, we are ready.
Speaker 5 (04:46):
At the drop of a dime.
Speaker 1 (04:48):
Are we gonna put the TNA titles up for that?
Speaker 5 (04:50):
On that match, we'll put the TNA titles up. Hell,
maybe we'll be the n XT champions with the NT
titles up. Who knows.
Speaker 3 (04:59):
Why don't they bring their old school ECBUT titles. I'm
sure they get some Revelicus put those online too.
Speaker 5 (05:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (05:06):
I think their claim is they're the most decorated tag team.
Speaker 5 (05:09):
That is their claim.
Speaker 2 (05:10):
Because I haven't I haven't investigated that claim.
Speaker 5 (05:12):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (05:15):
They have had a lot of title ones, especially in ECW.
That's where they got that that's where they got to
jump on us. But but I do have to say this,
they can't claim they're the most popular tag team of
all time. I think we were on a good claim
to that one, and also the most influential tag team
of all time. But we are working and I think
when it's all said and done, we are going to
be the most decorated tag team of all time.
Speaker 5 (05:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
Yeah, well, and you mentioned, you know, the y'all's hill
has been so wide, I mean specifically the tag team
of course, but then you guys definitely had your own
single success and that was a whole difference some of that. So, like,
you know, the talent or the fans have gravitated to
your guys for several different reasons, you know, not just
the tag team and stuff, Jeff, you know, reflecting on,
(05:57):
you know, some of the things in the past, how
how have those experiences influenced your end ring style and
an approach to storytelling within the TNA. Do you do
you offer advice to people if they ask you about
things like that, or do you kind of keep it
a little private.
Speaker 6 (06:13):
Yeah, I'm kind of a private guy. My biggest thing
is I'll just say if somebody asked me for advice
anything you do. I'm just like, no, man, that was.
Speaker 5 (06:20):
Great, Just keep doing what you're doing. Everything looked great.
Speaker 6 (06:23):
But yeah, just coming out on the other side of
all my my dark stuff. Man, it's just so I'm
so grateful each and every day to have this opportunity,
you know, to succeed again and to end my career
on an extremely high note instead of a real depressing load,
because I came close to like ending it all. So
it's just it's super excited. This last run is going
to be like one of the best runs of the
(06:44):
Hearty's that we've ever had. And and yeah, there's even
a twist to the plot, twist that's probably coming soon.
So I mean there's all kind of innovation always steady
going on in my mind. And I still love the
craft of pro wrestling like I did when I was
twelve years old.
Speaker 2 (06:59):
Well, I can speak as a fan. We were happy.
You're just healthy and happy. You know, the wrestling part
is an added bonus, but just we're just so grateful
you're stah here with us. So I'm gonna be at
Vegas for the Mania week and I was thinking of
back to Mania Week a few years ago, you guys,
let's say, fought the Bucks on a Saturday and then
(07:20):
you're at Mania the following day and became w W
Tech Team Champions. Can we expect anything wild for you
guys during media week? I mean, can you show up anywhere.
Speaker 3 (07:31):
Or anything happen in the extreme life of the Hearties.
Speaker 5 (07:35):
I can't say that.
Speaker 3 (07:35):
And also, one thing you're missing out on that Friday night,
we may have vented the wrestle Con show against Penton
Phoenix through our very established team now, and then we
wrestled the Bucks and Ladder Wars on Saturday, and then
Sunday we obviously showed up at Wrestling thirty three in
the ladder.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
Match one of y'all's opponents here.
Speaker 5 (07:51):
How there we go? Okay, cool? Look at that Brisco Boys.
Yeah yeah man.
Speaker 4 (07:56):
And kind of going back to what Eli said, I mean,
just when you think think of the Hardy Boys, it
is it's a name that everybody goes to. Matt and
Jeff and I am thirty six years old. My kid
is eight years old and I told him about Hey,
I'm interviewing the Hardy Boys, and he started freaking out.
And he's eight, so he knows everything. He's like, make
(08:17):
sure you show Jeff my action.
Speaker 1 (08:18):
Figure that I have. We also had a Matt, but
our dog got it in an extreme rules match, So
sorry Matt.
Speaker 4 (08:28):
But it's just so great to see the fact that
like not only can like somebody like myself and Eli
who grew up and we watched you guys on TV.
Now it's getting into another generational of fans that get
to watch the Hardy Boys, and that's gonna be a
cool thing and also just goes to show your longevity because,
like you said, you're taking care of yourself the ice
(08:50):
bas I mean, I sit here and watch you guys
on social media.
Speaker 1 (08:52):
You posted the videos.
Speaker 4 (08:53):
I see Jeff outside doing his artwork and he's singing
every day. I see you know, you know, Matt trying
to keep up with everything with his wife on TikTok,
and like you're staying.
Speaker 1 (09:05):
In the eye of everybody and you're staying relevant.
Speaker 4 (09:07):
Where you see some tag teams of the past where
they're just kind of like, we're just gonna do this.
Speaker 5 (09:12):
We you know, we do.
Speaker 3 (09:14):
We both live very fulfilling lives. You know, we both
have kids minor a little younger than Jeff's. They keep
us busy, and we have a very a very solid
and fair exchange I think between professional life and for
wrestling and family time as well.
Speaker 5 (09:30):
You know, I think they really work well together.
Speaker 3 (09:32):
They jee together, although the last three weeks have been
super slammed as we were doing NXC and TENA at
the same time. But with that being said, we're always
excited to get out to new towns, like we're coming
out here to Kansas City to Saint Joseph's and it's
the first time you said, TEENA has been here in
twelve years. We're really excited about this event. It's so
cool because every event we've been going and having TV,
we're having new fans, we're having new eyeballs, and like
(09:53):
you said, there's multiple generations that are coming to check
us out, because there's older people that grew up watching
us and know who we are, and they've had kids
and the kids hippocam fans, you know, with the whole
WB network and obviously the Internet and everything else. So
we're in a really cool position. We're really grateful for
all the love we get from folks.
Speaker 4 (10:11):
That's awesome.
Speaker 2 (10:12):
I got one, unless you got one, Bettle, No, I
saw you so going back to your mania. You know,
you guys obviously had an insane pop in twenty seventeen
at the Rumble, the TEENA world champion Joe Henry had
a very big pop. I was there, very loud. What
do you think of Joe Henry's success? You know, he
had a little stanton xt back in the day. He's
gone through the world traveling thing, Like, what do you
(10:33):
think about him as a talent and as a world
champion for TEENA?
Speaker 6 (10:35):
Yeah, I wish I could have been there in Indianapolis
to hear that the energy of that crowd when his
music hit. Man, I'm sure that was just so incredibly
fulfilling as a Joe Henry fan. But Jen just the
way he uses social media, you know, I kind of
envy that because I don't know, I don't know anything
about social media to that extent. Matt is much better
(10:56):
at that, Uh, but yeah, he is. Just his success
has been crazy and its cool to It makes me
think about, Okay, my old w B theme no more
words for one of these royal rumbos in the next
few years for that song to hit.
Speaker 5 (11:09):
It gives me hope that that might be a possibility.
Speaker 2 (11:11):
That would be incredible.
Speaker 4 (11:13):
I'm getting thinking about that because I know we've talked
about this before in the past of like you know,
like historic memorable theme songs, and I know you've talked
about it, Jeff, how you want to bring that back?
And you know, I sit here and think it's like
that would be incredible. You sit there and you're at
a you know, the Rumble or you're in a TNA
(11:34):
show or whatever, and all of a sudden that hits
and you go back.
Speaker 1 (11:38):
In time to when you were a kid when you
heard that, and it's like.
Speaker 2 (11:41):
I think you'd be expecting the hardy theme, you know,
if there's rumors when you all are appearing, So that
would definitely be a left field. Focusing back on tena,
who were some talent maybe that's really impressed you and
maybe behind the scenes, maybe not Champion or somebody, but
just someone that's just every day you're like, God, they're
putting in this work.
Speaker 3 (12:00):
Joe Henry first and foremost a huge fan of his work,
A huge fan of his work, ethic, huge fan of
him as a person. Love everything he's doing so great.
Bustin's ass. I'm really happy to see Frank Kazarian get
the opportunity he's getting. He's been very underrated, you know.
Speaker 2 (12:16):
Especially at Resurgent.
Speaker 3 (12:18):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, And and he has been absolutely great
at what he's been doing.
Speaker 5 (12:22):
So that's been that's been very nice to see too.
Speaker 6 (12:24):
Leon Slater Man, oh man, God, that guy is gonna
be a huge Yeah.
Speaker 5 (12:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (12:30):
He strikes me as someone that picks your brain from
time to time for sure.
Speaker 6 (12:34):
And just when I first heard about that Swans on
four F I was like, what what is that? And
Matt sent me a clip of it. I was like,
oh my god, how is that even humanly possible? Right
to pool off, But yeah, he is, Yeah, he's that.
Speaker 2 (12:44):
Was a huge free agent signing for TNA. I mean
he go anywhere, you know.
Speaker 3 (12:49):
I mean he's twenty years old, you know, he has
such a bright future in front of it, and he
gets it. And that's one of the things. He's one
of the guys we've kind of been paired with a
little bit, and I think gus our job to kind
of give him some of our rub and also instruct
him on how to improve and how to be better,
also lead him down the right path. So it's been
a blast, been an absolute pleasure working with Leon and
(13:10):
it's gonna be real interesting coming up for myself and
Jeff because we uh, we have this. Uh it looks
like we're going to be getting into a blood feud
with the Nimmouth brothers, especially after nick Names just betrayed me.
Speaker 5 (13:21):
You know, we were yeah, yeah, that.
Speaker 4 (13:26):
Was brewer to watch and I was just like this,
you done, You're done, screwed things up, and now it's
like you're you're about to uh.
Speaker 1 (13:35):
Get a whole new rap of the heart.
Speaker 4 (13:36):
Maybe we might get you know, some some fan favorites
from in the past of TNA, some some vanguard, maybe
some Willow.
Speaker 1 (13:46):
I'm just I'm just throwing it out there. I mean,
the Nimbus don't know what they're getting into.
Speaker 5 (13:51):
You're not wrong, you are not wrong. I mean uh uh.
Speaker 3 (13:54):
The last thing the Nimbus want to do is find
themselves in the Hardy Compound, because it will be there.
Speaker 5 (14:00):
It will be a true living nightmare for both of them.
Speaker 1 (14:02):
God, I can I hope that that happens because I
cannot wait.
Speaker 2 (14:05):
And it's a little head scratcher too, because like the
fans were behind nick you know, like he could have
had an opposite reaction coming over to TNA, but I
mean they were behind him and stuff as world champs,
so it's very kind of surprising to see that.
Speaker 3 (14:18):
So well, the thing I think you're going to see
develop out of all of this, and this is what
it seems like, because we heard some of this through,
you know, through the room. I feel like he felt
when he came back he kind of kicked off the
resurgence of TNA in some ways, and he was the
when he was the champion of TNA. But then like
once myself and Jeff got there, it's like, well, they're
giving the hearties all the credit. The hardies are getting
(14:40):
all the credit, not me, not me, not me. And
I think it was a little bit of jealousy. And
I know he's coming out to speak on Impact tomorrow
and I'm sure he'll break down and going to more
detail on that. And also his brother is just his
brother's weird. I mean, his brother is just such a
strange cat, you know, so so weird. And and and
Nick was really pushing to have him in our cage match,
(15:02):
and then we just couldn't have that. It came down
to Ryan Nimmoth or Leon Slater, and I think we
went with the right call with Leon Slater, and I
think all of those elements combined, you know, a little
underlying jealousy of Nick Nammuth along with the fact that
we didn't utilize his brother in that match. I think
that's why he pulled the trigger and made the choice
that he did.
Speaker 1 (15:20):
Yeah, that's right, absolutely, Well.
Speaker 4 (15:22):
I know that your time is very precious, because I
mean the Champs time is always pression precious, So real
quick before we let you go, of course, we're here
to talk about the big impact taping Saint Joseph's coming
up here in March twenty eighth and twenty ninth.
Speaker 1 (15:37):
All the details tickets, TNA wrestling dot Com. Before we
let you.
Speaker 4 (15:41):
Go, is there anything you want to say to all
the fans that are watching or listening to this right now?
Speaker 3 (15:46):
Yeah, I was gonna say, if you are anywhere in
this area for Saint Joseph, please come out to these shows.
Speaker 5 (15:51):
You are gonna love him. TNA. It is white hot
right now at his own role. We have Joe.
Speaker 3 (15:56):
Hendry, who is one of the hottest, most viral pro wrestlers,
is going right now. You have the Hearty's there where
you know how a lot of stuff in video gaming,
and we're not retros. Real cool, I think when it
comes to the Hearty's retro it was cool in wrestling
as well.
Speaker 5 (16:07):
We're kind of like a retro version of ourself right now.
Speaker 3 (16:10):
So it's been cool. But we have a great lineup
from top to bottom. Every time we do these shows,
people leave totally entertained and totally thrilled. So make sure
to make these tapings next week and Saint.
Speaker 5 (16:20):
Joseph's let's make this a very very special few impact
of it.
Speaker 6 (16:24):
And yet our meet and greets these days, we've been
demonstrating the power of patients. We didn't even get to
go to sleep last week, so we signed into like
three in the morning and it was insane, went straight
to the airport.
Speaker 5 (16:36):
But the love and.
Speaker 6 (16:37):
Support that's showing up for us, man, the genuine love
and support that's showing up for us, has been extremely
powerful and I can't wait to experience that here.
Speaker 5 (16:46):
There were in El Paso last week.
Speaker 3 (16:49):
Because of the injuries, my injuries in the cage and
being beat up, we didn't do it the first night.
The second night we did though, which was Saturday night,
and we started signing about ten thirty and we signed till.
Speaker 5 (16:59):
Three o'clock in the morning. You know, we did twelve
hundred people whatever.
Speaker 3 (17:03):
It's It was just insane, but it is what it is, man,
and life is good, and we are we are grateful
that we have that love, and we are patient and
we do our best. Have everyone a really special and
memorable experience. And also a new hearty shot.
Speaker 2 (17:17):
I noticed those.
Speaker 3 (17:17):
Yeah, right here, it's a new hardy voice symbol TNA
you get on the website.
Speaker 5 (17:22):
We are forever there we go.
Speaker 4 (17:25):
And again, like you said, I mean I've watched it firsthand,
uh at your meet and greets when you had the
TNA show here in Nashville and we were kind of
in the back and I watched it.
Speaker 1 (17:34):
You took the time to talk.
Speaker 4 (17:36):
To everybody and it wasn't one of those take a
photos signed thanks for coming out, We'll see you tomorrow.
I think that that's the longevity and that just goes
to show how great of a guys you are and
how you.
Speaker 1 (17:47):
Are dedicated to your fans.
Speaker 4 (17:48):
Because I remember, Uh, my kid was seven at the time,
so you sat there, both of you guys talked to him,
and he thought that that was the coolest thing, and
still talks about that to this day and has uh
one of Jeff's sleeves that he threw out in the crowd,
so he wears that religiously. So again, it's always an
honor and or privilege to have you guys on the show,
and thanks for coming on today.
Speaker 5 (18:10):
Thank you guys, thanks for having us. Man appreciate you.
