Welcome to the Battleground Podcast.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
You'll play foot all things pro.

Speaker 3 (00:10):
Wrestling and exclusive interviews with some of your favorite wrestlers.
Crown Podcast stop here.

Speaker 1 (00:21):
Battle.

Speaker 3 (00:24):
Welcome back to iHeartRadio's official wrestling podcast. To Battleground Podcast.
What is going on? It is Battle and Man, we
got a big show today. We're gonna break in some
news on the internet spots. Before we break the news,
I gotta give you a little backstory of our guest
joining us today. Former college volleyball stand out who spiked
her way into the wrestling ring, a proud graduate of

(00:46):
the prestigious Black and Brave Wrestling Academy, hailing from Cedar Rapids,
the high flying, the hard hitting sensation herself and a
fellow Ginger, Maggie Lee, joins the show. Maggie, how are you? Hi?

Speaker 2 (00:58):
I'm good? How are you? I am doing good?

Speaker 3 (01:01):
And I know that you're doing even better because while
we've got some breaking news here on the show, let's
talk about it you. We can now officially announce you
have signed with TNA. How about that?

Speaker 2 (01:15):
Yes, I am so excited.

Speaker 3 (01:18):
It's it's it's been a long time coming. I know
because we've seen it. There's been discussions about the potential
signing with TNA. Uh, you know, now we can officially
break the news I say that you're officially signed with TNA.
What was that moment like when you put pen to
paper or maybe digital pin to to you know, PDF

(01:39):
file and uh, what were the emotions like that we're
running through your mind when you're signing all that.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
Well, I was super excited, obviously, but I also like
just being like only two years in and like, well
going on my third Like I definitely am like having
some imposter syndrome, But obviously, yeah, I'm super excited. I'm
super excited to learn there and everything. I think it
will be very good for me.

Speaker 3 (02:06):
Yeah, it's definitely gonna be fun because I know you've
been featured on a couple of the Explosion episodes and
now you can officially say that you are a part
of the Knockouts division. And earlier during the intro, we
talked about volleyball, and you know, your athletic journey did
begin with volleyball before moving into wrestling. So tell me
how did your background and volleyball influence your approach to

(02:29):
wrestling and what motivated you to make the transition from
volleyball to wrestling.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
So I actually always wanted to be a wrestler. I
just kind of went to college because volleyball was on
the table. I didn't actually know like what I wanted
to go for in school because I was just like, yep,
I want to be a wrestler, and that's not something
you can go to college for obviously, but like, definitely,

(02:56):
especially at my junior college, we did a lot of
running and that definitely translated to wrestling. Like my cardio
was in pretty good shape when I started training because
of that.

Speaker 2 (03:09):
So yeah, and it was.

Speaker 3 (03:11):
Just a seamless transition for you.

Speaker 2 (03:14):
Of course.

Speaker 3 (03:15):
Our guests on the show right now, Maggie Lee big announcement,
she has now signed with TNA. And you know, the
great thing about TNA is from the start, it has
a long history of elevating women's wrestling. What does it
mean for you to be a part of that legacy
now of the TNA Knockouts Division And how do you

(03:36):
see yourself shape in the future of the Knockouts Division.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
I'm really excited obviously, Yeah, it does.

Speaker 1 (03:43):
It has tons of history and like everybody that has
been there, like I feel like it's very well respected
and I'm super excited to like be leaving my name
with all of those other names.

Speaker 2 (03:57):
I think that is the second part of the question.

Speaker 3 (04:00):
Sorry, Uh, how do you see yourself shape in the
future of the Knockouts Division?

Speaker 2 (04:05):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (04:05):
Yeah, I think that I can definitely, just like I
think I add something different, like just the way I
look like I'm super tall, I'm super like thin, my
hair is red and curly, like, I just think that
I offer very a unique look and my skill my
skills also, like I think that I do a good

(04:27):
mix of all of it.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
I believe in my opinion.

Speaker 3 (04:34):
Yeah, And you know that's the exciting thing about the
Knockouts Division. I mean, you look at who all's in there,
and now you get to tangle it up with them,
and you never know what's gonna happen, especially now with
TNA working with NXT, and you know that opens the
door for more possibilities and crossover opportunities. You know, right now,
I know you you just signed with TNA, but if

(04:56):
you could call your shot, who are you gonna face
somebody from TNA, Hey, somebody from NXT, maybe somebody from
both in a triple threat match?

Speaker 2 (05:04):
Is ooh?

Speaker 1 (05:07):
I mean obviously, you know, like I want to say
I want to go after some gold, but let me think, like,
who's someone that I'm just like, oh, you know what,
I've already seen this on on X but me versul
Ruka or US tagging.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
You know, I've heard both.

Speaker 1 (05:25):
Like people are like tagging or a singles match would
be cool.

Speaker 3 (05:31):
I could see you and Saul tagging, and she spent
some time here at TNA. We've been to some of
the tapings where she's been at. So if you do
end up tagging with with her, do you already in
the back of your mind have a tag team name
thought out of or you're just gonna kind of wait
and then see what happens.

Speaker 2 (05:48):
Yeah, I mean she's got Zaria right now, so i'd
be a third wheel. I never say never.

Speaker 3 (05:55):
I mean sorry, I could go do something else and
then you and and Saul can go after the TNA
knockouts titles, n X t or the you know, WWE titles.
There's a lot of things that you could go after
very very soon. And I mean you've got a great,
uh career ahead of you, and I mean it's fantastic
again signing with TNA. Big stuff now you know, you

(06:18):
talk about training and you've been doing this for a
couple of years, and obviously a lot of people know
that you trained under Seth Rollins at you know, the
Black and Brave Wrestling Academy. Very unique experience. What were
some of the most impactful lessons that you learned while
training at Black and Brave Wrestling Academy.

Speaker 1 (06:37):
I would say they kind of told us like, uh,
at the end of our training and they were like,
We're not like making this happen for you. This is
up to you guys to go like you have to
put in the time. You guys have to put in.

Speaker 2 (06:49):
The effort and.

Speaker 1 (06:52):
Go out and make it happen for yourselves. Like they'll
give us feedback and everything, but like ultimately it's up
to you.

Speaker 2 (06:59):
How much do you want it?

Speaker 1 (07:01):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (07:01):
Absolutely biggest thing.

Speaker 3 (07:04):
And you know, while you're there, I know there's a
lot of great trainers there as well. Was there anything
that maybe when you were there with Seth? Was there
any piece of advice that he gave you in for
this industry?

Speaker 1 (07:20):
I would like he's critiqued like multiple of my matches.

Speaker 2 (07:24):
I remember him just telling me that I moved really
well very early on.

Speaker 1 (07:31):
But I know, like I definitely like looking back at
when I was in class, I was like, oh, I
don't like I don't think I get it, like the
rest of the people in my class do, like they like.
It took me a while to like believe in myself,
I guess, but I feel like a lot of people
say that early on, right.

Speaker 3 (07:49):
Absolutely, And you know, there's been a lot of talk
about fresh faces, fresh face, excuse me, bringing new energy
into TNA. What do you you bring to the table
that fans haven't seen before.

Speaker 1 (08:05):
All? I mean, like I said earlier, like I think
just my look in general, but then the way that
I mix styles in the ring, I think that's something different.
I think that like with that, I can make different
like matches with different people, different sizes, like they could.

Speaker 2 (08:27):
It could just be so many different things.

Speaker 3 (08:30):
Yeah. Absolutely, And you know, again we briefly talked about it.
TNA probably has one of the best women's division in
all of wrestling. And I mean, you look at who's
in that knockout division. To you personally, who do you
see as your biggest challenge and who do you think
you'll have the best chemistry with in ring inside that

(08:53):
knockout division.

Speaker 2 (08:55):
Oh okay, so biggest challenge.

Speaker 1 (08:57):
I mean, ultimately you have to say Masha Right's champ
right now, but best chemistry, I feel like I have
to say Heather Reckless, Heather Biel against sorry, just because
just because we have already wrestled. I've wrestled a couple
of them now obviously, but her and I have put

(09:19):
on some fun matches before, so.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
I would be excited to do it in a TNA ring. Yeah,
those would definitely.

Speaker 3 (09:26):
I mean, seeing you and Masha go at it, it's
kind of like a David versus Goliath, but this time
Goliath beats David. So I think that that's gonna be
what we're saying in that match. And you know, one
really cool thing. Signing with a major company obviously a
huge milestone. What's the next big goal for you in
TNA and how do you want to be remembered when

(09:47):
people look back at your career inside that Knockout Division?

Speaker 1 (09:53):
You know, I've like felt this way about my career
in general, but like, I want to do everything, Like
I feel like everybody says that, but like.

Speaker 2 (10:01):
I really do.

Speaker 1 (10:01):
I want to do everything. I want to have the
tag titles. I want to have all of them. I
want to have all of them. So wherever I need
to start to start checking these off, I'll be doing that.

Speaker 2 (10:11):
I gotta make a game plan. Go back.

Speaker 3 (10:16):
We'll be right here cheering you on as a fellow Ginger.
We got to stick together because there's not very many
of us left around the world. Last, but not least,
this is kind of like a fun question, not really
so much wrestling, but more of like get to know
you kind of thing. And we're going to kind of
paint a picture for those that are watching or listening
to this right now. But you're leaving your place in

(10:37):
the morning, you're getting ready to start today. Before you
put your car and drive, it's time to set the vibe.
What is the first song you're playing as you're pulling
out of the driveway.

Speaker 1 (10:50):
Okay, you would ask me this question because this is
such a tough one. Everybody asked, like, everybody's like, oh,
what's your what music? Do like? I?

Speaker 2 (10:58):
Actually I'm being so I like all music, all genres.

Speaker 1 (11:03):
I grew up an eye so I like country music,
I like rock, I like rap, I like.

Speaker 2 (11:08):
Pop punk, I like all of it. Oh my gosh,
this is so hard. If I feel like it changes
every day. It just depends on what I wake up
and feel like listening to.

Speaker 3 (11:18):
I guess, so, what's your Okay, what's your current favorite
song that you could probably listen to on repeat then.

Speaker 2 (11:27):
On repeat?

Speaker 1 (11:28):
I wish I could pull up my Spotify and like
check right now.

Speaker 2 (11:36):
I Today at work, I was listening to a lot
of Paramore.

Speaker 3 (11:41):
Okay, we'll say Paramore. Paramore sets the scene. They're they're
a natural band, right up the street from US and Franklin.
They're they're awesome. Paramore has some some James. I'll give
it to you. So we'll say Paramore. That's that's what
you go with.

Speaker 2 (11:54):
People have the driveway today.

Speaker 3 (11:57):
Today, at least tomorrow it might be something different, might
be like Red Clay Strace tomorrow and then the day
after that it could be Kendrick Lamar or something you
never know.

Speaker 2 (12:06):
You never know.

Speaker 3 (12:08):
Well, I gotta say it is an honor and privileged
to have you on the show, Maggie, and I'm excited
that we get to break the news again that you
have officially signed with TNA. Before we let you go,
is there anything that you want to say to people
that are watching or listening to this right now.

Speaker 1 (12:26):
I again am thankful for everybody that helped me get
to the position that I'm in today, and I'm excited
for everybody to watch. My social media's are all at
just Maggie Lee, Yeah, just about it.

Speaker 3 (12:40):
Thank you very Jachmy, thanks for coming on and thanks
for letting us break this news. And we look forward
to seeing knockout gold around your waist and over your shoulders,
and we look for a very bright career with you
in TNA.

Speaker 2 (12:56):
Thank you
