(00:00):
This is between two shows podcast oniHeartRadio. Hey what's up. I'm Dave
and I'm Jen and it's Phil. All right, So prom season is here
underway, and we were having aconversation about my son Tyler. He was
planning to go to a different schoolsprom. Yeah. I totally did this
(00:21):
back in the day. Okay,it happens. Yeah, some schools have
different rules for who can and can'tcome, because I know Sarah has dealt
with this also, okay, becauseshe's gone back to prom even after graduating.
Right, Yes, she went toher own Alma Maters prom after she
graduated, Okay, and that wasfine. Yeah, but she couldn't go
to Ironton's after she graduated, okay, strict Okay, which probably safer.
(00:46):
I don't know. I know what'scrazy is there? There are so many
schools in this area you could youcould do that. You get like growing
up in Ripley, we had twoschools and they were seven miles apart,
and that that's all you had,Okay, but here it's like sixteen schools.
Exactly when I was a senior inhigh school, I went to Ironton's
prompt. So it's kind of crazy. That my daughter Sarah could not go.
(01:11):
The difference was she graduated. Iwas not. I was still a
senior. Well, so, whenI was a senior and went to my
senior prom in two thousand and five, the date that I took was also
a graduate of Cavil Midland High School. Okay, but in nineteen ninety five,
five when you were a senior, whin two thousand and five, well
(01:33):
probly okay. So at the timeI was dating a senior citizen and did
he look young? Okay? Sohere's the deal. I asked permission.
Okay, I never lied, I'mnot. I mean, I'm a great
liar, but I don't like tolie. Okay, So I asked permission
(01:55):
from my principal at the time, and he said, no, you cannot
bring I can't imagine why you wouldsay no. He was like, you
cannot. I was seventeen at thetime. He was like, you cannot
bring your twenty eight year old boyfriendto the prom, saying that I can't
do that. Yeah, So Isaid to him, I was like,
okay, totally here you man.So, of course, what did I
do. I had a dude thatI worked with who was twenty one at
(02:17):
the time. I took a photocopyof his ID and had him sign his
name on the release. Right,oh my, And so as long as
you were twenty one or younger, you could go to the prom. So
that's the information I turned in.And the night that I showed up and
had you know, old boyfriend BarnabyJones with me, they they saw him
(02:38):
and they saw me, and theysaid the principals did anyway, and they
were like, so you didn't bringthat boyfriend of years, did you?
And I was like, huh, nope, nope and just walked on in
and they let me no. Iguess they thought it was a father daughter
dance. Here's what I want toknow, how did you get this past
your parents? Did they know? This is? Parents? Like I said,
(03:01):
I don't like to lie. WhenI was fifteen and going to Sharky's
in Huntington, I was like,Mom, Dad, I'm going to a
new place with my friend. They'relike, oh, what's that that.
It's called Sharky's. They're like,wow, what's that place. I'm like,
it's a bar. Yeah, Sonot, you know, I think
my parents were under the impression thatif we try to stop her she's gonna
(03:21):
rebel because they they got that sense, okay, and they weren't wrong.
So they kind of they knew thatI was dating the dude. I'd introduced
him to him. You know, yeah, they knew. Okay, did
they like it? Probably not?And they did they know that the principal
had told you no? Oh yeah, I called like once again, I
told him everything. They just kindof let me run my life. They
were like, well, she's doingit, Okay, this is a very
(03:44):
bizarre story. Yeah, very bizarre. Yeah. I grew up a little
differently, you think usually, youknow, I've seen people go to proms
that you know they're dating somebody else, but maybe they're off in college and
then they go with a friend toprompt, right, was that not an
option for you, like to gowith somebody else and just now hangouts now
because you have to bring up itwas my senior prom, a guy who
(04:05):
was old enough to run for presidentof the United States thirty five to run,
thank you. No, I justI thought to myself, well,
I wanted to go to a promwith my boyfriend. Uh, and that's
who I chose to say, boyfriendslash grandpa. And he drove he did
drive his yellow Corvette. I'm notgonna lie. I mean, what teenager
(04:27):
do you know has the yellow Corvette? Oh? Shoot, none of them.
They have to graduate college to getthat. Yeah. So yeah,
I'm still taking it back by yousaid earlier that you had to be twenty
one or younger to uh to goto a pro I still think twenty one
is kind of an old right.I think, honestly, it needs to
be a high school thing. Ifyou ask me now, but I know
(04:48):
what I know, I would saythat you have to be enrolled in another
high school locally in order to goto someone else's high school prom. So
what you're saying is you don't condone. I think it's a bad idea.
Guys, maybe a plus one yearplus one out of school, maybe one
year at school. Sarah going toright, Oh what I was thinking?
(05:11):
Okay, all the matters, youknow, and she went with a friend
who needed a prom date. Hey, okay, kind of situation. Maybe
one year removed. There you go, not twelve to fifteenth. We're gonna
get this. It's the generule we'regoing to have that put it in all
the schools. You can't do this, Oh, listen, learn from my
mistakes kids. Okay, we arelearning an awful lot, right, awful
(05:35):
lot. Did you guys do anythingcrazy that night? No? Okay,
I mean but he had his ownsounds so bad, Yeah, it really
does. This is getting worse bythe minute. I love this great.
Story is good. This is good. Yeah, all right, real fun
(06:00):
check this out. One of mybest buddies in the world. Showpie brought
a date from another school to ourprom. Okay, he was a junior.
I was a senior this year.He brings a girl that wears a
dress that would totally be completely finenow, oh, but back then was
scandalous. The entire back was out, went all the way to just above
(06:24):
her hip, oh like just abovethe crack portion to the blue te crack,
right, and the whole town talkedabout it. Everybody talked about his
date. Okay, and even ourprincipal at the time took off his suit
jacket okay, and made her wearit. That's hilarious. Out the dance
(06:47):
that would not happen today, nokidding? Are you kidding me? They
wear that on the daily now right? A backless dress that's nothing now,
are you kidding me? Not kidding? Hilarious? At all. It was
scandless. And you know, Chopyand I both we were good kids,
church going boys. We didn't getinto trouble. We didn't do bad things.
You brought somebody. He did bringsomeone's no a legit date, Jen,
(07:16):
not like your old fella. Ididn't pay for it. But you
brought someone scandalous to your pros.Scandalous and old. Yeah, very old,
everybody. And thanks so much forlistening to our between two shows podcasts.
