(00:00):
I'm so honored to welcome on theshow entertainment and lifestyle reporter Tommy de Dario.
Hello, how are you? Ohmy gosh, Tommy, I'm so
glad that we finally got to connect. You're such a positive influence, whether
it's mental health, whether it's fitness, whether it's you know, just take
care of yourself. Sometimes we forgetthat this is how we should be.
Oh, thank you. I appreciatethat. Yeah, it's just very much

(00:22):
who I am, and I tryto you know, I try to listen.
We all have bad days, ofcourse, and I don't shy away
from that either, but I tryto just be a place where people can
go and feel a little bit betterabout themselves than maybe before they started watching
something I'm putting out Tommy to Dario, I've never said this before. Is
a podcast that you're going to findon the iHeartRadio app or wherever you get

(00:44):
your podcast. For folks who havenot heard it, Tommy, tell us
about this podcast. So you know, I work on a show called Extra,
and a lot of those interviews arevery fast, very quick red carpet
interviews or a few minutes sitting downwith somebody. But I often see that
the people I'm interviewing wish they hadtime to talk about more meaningful things,

(01:07):
because of course, if you onlyhave a few minutes, you're talking about
the project really quickly and getting acouple sound bites. And I wanted the
opposite of that. I wanted anon sound bite conversation. So you know,
of course, that bring people onand we talk about their fan favorite
projects, but then we really peelback the layers on who somebody is and
lessons learned along the way in adviceto their younger self. And these people

(01:30):
have done tons and tons and tonsof press before, so I try to
pull little nuggets out of them throughoutthe interview of things they've never said before,
and then I blatantly asked them atthe end, what is one thing
you have never said before? AndI think through revealing that information is when
we really can feel a little lessalone in this world and realize we're all

(01:51):
in this together. It doesn't matterwhat level of success or fame or notoriety
you have, we all go throughthe same stuff. So that's kind of
the concept of how this came aboutand why I wanted to put out that
message. I love that because evenme talking to anyone else. I think
that a lot. We have liketwo, three, maybe five minutes ten
minutes max to chat with someone. It's like you have to get right to

(02:14):
it, and you don't really havetime to ask the questions that probably everybody
else is asking themselves or wanting youto ask. And i'd imagine in some
cases what the artist or the personthat you're talking to wants to talk about
because maybe they've never been asked. So I love that you do that.
It's important for me to do that. And you know, even if you
don't know the guests that I'm interviewing, my goal is by the end that

(02:38):
you know them very very well.So you don't have to love the TV
show or the album or whatever projectthat they are affiliated with. You don't
have to necessarily know it because I'mgoing to cover it. I'm going to
kind of give you the rundown onwhat it is, and yeah, we'll
talk about it a bit. Butthen all of the life lessons that come
out of the conversation are applicable toeverybody and anyone. So that's what I'm

(03:00):
most enjoy about this show, andagain helping people realize that life is crazy.
And we're not in this alone. We all go through the same stuff.
I think it's so interesting being inthe positions we are, especially when
it comes to, you know, the notoriety, people shying away because they're
not sure that they're on the samelevel as what we are, and in
reality, they absolutely are. Weare no different. We just get to

(03:23):
do cool jobs. I mean,I'm nobody special. I try to put
that back out there too, becauseit's true. I agree with you,
I agree with you, and I'mgoing to disagree on one thing. You
are somebody special. You shouldn't sayyou're not somebody special. You are because
what you say and what you putout, you have no idea how that's
affecting someone in the best ways possible. And yes, you have the platform

(03:44):
and we're chosen to do this, but you earned it and you deserve it,
and you are putting out messages thatmatter, So I think you got
to give yourself a little credit forthat. For one, and for two,
I very much like you. Ifeel like in my conversations, I'm
not trying to be a p I'mnot trying to talk down to you.
I'm not trying to act like Iknow everything because I don't. My God,

(04:04):
I'm growing and learning every day,and the moment I stop wanting to
grow and learn, that's a problem. So I hope I always carry that
throughout my life. But what Iam trying to do is bring people into
a conversation so we can have ittogether. And I think that's kind of
what makes my show a little different. It's it's not like I'm some expert
on my podium telling you how everythinghas to be. It's it's no,

(04:26):
let's all figure out life together. It's messy and wild and exciting and thrilling
and sad and happy and we feelall the same things. But let's talk
about it. And let me givethese stars, who maybe you don't know
on a personal level because you justare such a fan of their work,
let me give them the platform sothey can open up about that stuff.
And man, I got to tellyou, the response on their end is

(04:47):
so cool because they don't often getthe opportunity to do that, and they
are so much more than the charactersthey play and the music they sing.
And I think it's really refreshing thatwe can have a space where we can
all just be who we are.So it's been thrilling. Chris, It's
been so much fun, and that'swhy I love this podcast so much,
because I mean, I'm going tothrow a couple of names out there.
Tyler Henry is one of those diggingdeeper and peeling back some layers of these

(05:10):
individuals. What was it like specificallywith Tyler Henry? Oh, was so
cool? And listen He's Tyler Henryis of course the most sought after clairvoyant
medium in the in the world, and whether you believe in that or not,
I think the message is that heshared about grief and lost and his
experiences in dealing and communicating with peoplewho go through such intense emotions and feel

(05:33):
so alone and left behind when somebodythey love leaves this world is such a
powerful message and I think that's somethingthat we all, unfortunately at some point,
have to go through, and lossand grief is nothing anyone's immune to.
So hearing what he's taken away fromthose conversations what's fascinating hearing how he

(05:55):
doesn't let that, you know, weigh him down each and every day,
because my God, and how toughcan that be? Right? Having to
be somebody's soundboard for people that they'velost and contacting those people from the other
side to bring people any sort ofclosure that he can. That's no easy
seat. That is a huge responsibility. So how that does an affect him

(06:16):
on the daily in a negative way? I mean, I learned so much
from my guests. I'm constantly inspired. And that's what I mean. It's
not just about their work. It'snot just about being a fan of them,
because these are lessons we all learn. It's the Birthday bas Show and
I'm talking with Tommy de Dario.I just love the positivity you bring to
not only the people that you talkto, but like I feel it when

(06:40):
I'm watching your videos and it isinspiring. In fact, that's what I
try to do on a regular basisbecause it's a huge help when it comes
to putting that positivity back out therein the world for perhaps those who may
not have experienced it enough or whoneed to just hear that. And so
I'm going to try to take afterTommy de Dario to bring that positive and

(07:00):
that information to that same level. It's changed my world in the way that
I look at things as well.So thank you for that. Oh that's
really kind of you. Thank you. I truly appreciate that. And you
know, you sometimes forget what effectyou have on people because you don't.
I don't go out and do thethings I do in hopes of making somebody
like me, for example. Ido the things I do because I want

(07:23):
to put out messages that matter throughdoing meaningful work that fuels my soul.
And I always say, find whatfuels your soul, and it just so
happens that making people feel like thebest versions of themselves and feel a little
more joyful than maybe five minutes beforelistening to me, that's what fuels my
soul. Go check out I've neversaid this before on the iHeartRadio app with

(07:44):
Tommy Dedario. Tommy, let's talkfun stuff. We're in January. I
have no idea how we got hereso quickly, but some exciting things happening
in your world. Yeah, Imean, my god, I can't believe
we're here too. It's how arewe in twenty twenty four? But yes,
the years off to a great start. I ventured into a new artistic
endeavor. It's really not so newbecause I've done it a lot of a

(08:05):
lot of my life before, inmy earlier years, I should say,
But I kind of am returning backto it. I kept it a secret
for all of twenty twenty three becauseI wanted something just for me. But
I'm diving back into the acting worldand we're going to see where that goes.
I'm not leaving my job. Everyone'slike, oh, are you Are
you done with all the things they'redoing. No, no, no,
no no, I'm just adding toit. So again part of my self
growth and wanting to evolve and neverstop learning. I took all of twenty

(08:30):
twenty three to get myself back inclass. Didn't tell a soul. Was
in weekly classes still am to thisday. Really sharpened my tools. I
studied as a younger guy and Iwanted to make sure I got all my
tools sharpened again. And now we'rehere and I'm going to go full steam
ahead and start auditioning and adding thatto the adding that to the docket.
So we'll see how it goes. And then I say it just to hopefully

(08:54):
maybe inspire someone listening to do somethingthat you've been wanting to do and that
fuels your soul. You know,it's funny that up because I was just
talking to Darren, my fiance, the other night and we were talking about,
Okay, you know, what canwe do. There's changes that we
want to make with jobs or somethingin our house or whatever. It's a
new year, it's a new yearto be able to how can we change

(09:16):
things up? It's the same old, same all. We're not getting younger.
We want to live more, wewant to do more. And I
said, well, look, youknow the only way we can move forward
on that is to sit down andput put our heads together think of things
that we can do. So I'mthrilled for you, my friend. I
can't wait to see what you're goingto do this year. Thank you,
thank you man. Yeah, it'ssomething that I've always wanted to get back
into. I left that side ofthe business for some personal reasons and it

(09:39):
was just time to get back inthe mix. So I'm proud of myself.
I put in the work. Iworked really hard over the last year
and we'll see where it goes.So I'm really looking forward to that and
continuing all the other things I'm doingwork wise. And you know, a
constant reminder, I guess more ona bigger level is I'm just trying to
continue to be as present as Ican be middedly. I'm always thinking what's

(10:01):
next or worried about the next thing, and I don't really stay in the
now as much as I want to. And I think that's something I'm trying
to work on. So I hopethis year it can also be a bit
more present. Boy, if thatshouldn't be the New Year's resolution for every
single one of us, I'm tellingyou what, there's a lot of people

(10:22):
that feel, quite simply that they'rejust not good enough, that they can't
do this, that they won't succeed, and that's just not true. Yeah,
I mean, that's very well said. I think fear is one of
the most crippling things in the world, and we all have moments where we're
afraid and or we're scared. ButI challenge everybody to stare at fear in

(10:43):
the face and push it aside, because, like you said, life is
short. We have one life tolive, and don't let anything, don't
let anyone take away a dream ofyours or take away something you want to
do. And it doesn't have tobe super big scale, it could be
anything. And if you're all tosomething, do it. You have one
chance to be here, so justmake the most of it, right,

(11:05):
my motivation? You're speaking my language. Well, normally I'm the one who
asks the questions, but it's Tommyde Daria. I'm going to turn the
tables and you get to ask mesomething. Well, I would love to
know. Chris, you are sucha pro. You've been doing this for
a long time. So what keepsyou going? Why is this still so
exciting for you? That's a goodquestion. You know. I am in

(11:30):
year thirty three now, this yearof broadcasting, and maybe not at the
beginning, but as I grew andyou know, learned the better way to
do things and how to be aquote unquote personality and even more so now
a companion with you know, havingthings that are relatable to my audience.

(11:52):
Gosh, that makes sense. Ido it, and in the drive that
I get from it is okay. How can Well? The first question I
ask myself every day is how canI improve somebody else's world? What I
do for a living, what Isay on the radio? How can that
be something that's not just nonsense thatpeople are going to laugh at or whatever

(12:16):
and move on with their day butnot take away anything from it. And
so I try to really focus onthat thought with how I do what I
do, and I just honestly Ithrow myself into Okay, what charities can
I help promote? What organizations needhelp? Can I join a board?
Can I be involved in the community, Because I feel like as someone who

(12:39):
is a voice, which you know, I say, we're the voice for
those who don't have one, andI use that all the time for whether
we're doing stuff to help the homelessin the area, whether we're doing the
posion for the Humane Society to raisemoney, whatever the case may be.
There's always there's always a strong motivethere to be the best and help out

(13:03):
in the you know, the bestway for whatever it is that I'm looking
at. That's what keeps me goingevery day because I have the ability to
have that voice. I'm able tosay, look, maybe we thought this
way one day, and this isthe reality. This is how we can

(13:24):
be better versions of ourselves. Wellthat's why you do what you do.
That was so well said, andI'm so with you. I love that.
Well, you know, I figurethat there are we can go and
I mean there are people who andit's fine. There are people who have
shows and it's just comedy. It'sjust all there is. That's what it
is, that's what they do.And then there are those of us who

(13:46):
realize that, Okay, well radiomorning show, Yeah that's fine, we
can we can play some music,we can have some fun. But what's
really going to keep listeners coming backfor what they're tuning in for in the
first place? Yes, sort ofthe music, but also the conversation,
also the content of the show. And if it's something that I look at

(14:09):
and I say, is my listenergoing to care about this? And the
answer is no, then it's immediatelythrown away. I mean, and I
will literally verbal in the studio verballysay yeah, nobody cares, and I
toss it aside. But then Ilook deeper into Okay, what kind of
things can I Now, obviously youwant it to be fun, so it's
not all just about that, butthere's also a way to as you well

(14:33):
know, there's a way to havethose conversations where it's fun and yet it's
memorable, and it may also includesomething that inspires someone to do something.
It really is a unique industry thatyou and I are in. Oh yeah,
and you nailed it with with whyshould people care? I mean,
one of the things I respect. The most is people's time, and we're
all so busy and stretched in amillion different directions, so you know,

(14:56):
we want to add value to yourlife, and hopefully that value is a
little little bit of fun and joyand again makes you feel good in a
pretty wild world we live in.Tommy Didario, I appreciate you so much.
By the way, if you're notfamiliar, Geo Benitez from ABC News
is Tommy's husband. Going back towhat I said earlier about the reason that

(15:16):
people come back to us and whateverwe do is because of that companionship or
because of that trust, and trusthas always got to be there what Geo
does, obviously there's a lot oftrust in what he does. Please personally
thank him for me and all ofus. We appreciate that. We'll do
a happy birthday. Thank you foryour light and here's to an amazing year

(15:37):
ahead. Yes, thank you somuch. I cannot wait. I'm sure
no doubt we'll talk again. AndI appreciate you calling the show. Oh,
thank you so much. This wasa blast. Appreciate you. Chris
