Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, what's going on? It is hit Man with you.
Speaker 2 (00:01):
I got on the phone with me right now from
the Union Underground Brian Scott.
Speaker 1 (00:05):
Dude, what's going on?
Speaker 3 (00:06):
Man? How are you doing?
Speaker 4 (00:07):
I'm good man, I'm doing I'm.
Speaker 1 (00:09):
Doing real good too. Now you guys are celebrating. Let
me get this straight.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
Is it the twenty fifth anniversary of an Education in Rebellion?
Speaker 3 (00:16):
Yeah? Can you believe that hit? Five years?
Speaker 1 (00:19):
Wow?
Speaker 3 (00:19):
Man?
Speaker 2 (00:19):
How a San Antonio new metal band has launched into
the stratosphere And this was a great album in fact,
I know here at Sea one on one we played
CeAl TeX's Death Ride and turned me on mister dead Man.
And looking forward to seeing you guys with Edema and
Spine Shank and a lot of other great bands that
are going to be here also on over at the
House of Rock on July thirteenth.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
What can people expect?
Speaker 4 (00:42):
Yeah, you know what, We're really excited to be back
in Corpus. I think it's been you know, we were
going to hit Corpus last year and it just didn't
work out in the routing, so we were kind of
bummed about that, and I know people were really wanting
us to get down there. So I'm excited about that. Man.
I think it's been twenty years since we've played Corpus.
Speaker 3 (00:58):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (01:00):
Yeah, it's gonna be nice. So, you know, twenty five
years and we're doing obviously the record in full, plus
several other songs across the nation of course which was
not on the record, and probably three I haven't decided
if we're going to do a full three or not.
Two or three songs from the new record will be playing.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
Live as well.
Speaker 1 (01:22):
Yeah, tell us about it.
Speaker 3 (01:23):
That'll be a cool treat.
Speaker 1 (01:24):
That's cool. Tell us a little bit about the new album.
What is going on with that?
Speaker 4 (01:28):
Well, you know, we've been chattering about it for a
long time, and true to form, I'm kind of taking
much longer than it should.
Speaker 3 (01:35):
But you know, I just.
Speaker 4 (01:37):
I want it to be I want it to be right.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
I don't want to rush it.
Speaker 4 (01:40):
It's just and you know you Underground is my own,
my own project, so you know, I work on other
things as well, but the last couple of years have
been really focused on Union and I want to make
sure that that record represents what the first.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
I just wanted to have the energy.
Speaker 4 (01:55):
And attitude that the first one had and not be
too much of a departure, you know. In other words,
I don't want the News record to be like some
completely modern version of Union Underground doesn't have the character
of the first record, you know, right, So I'm being
very careful about that because I want, I really want
it to be an extension of rebellion, you know, not
(02:16):
just some completely new sound.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
See yeh, I said, we're talking with Brian Scott. Of
course he's he's coming with the Union Underground, lead singer
of the Union under Ground. Happening Sunday, July thirteenth. Door's
gonna be opening about six o'clock. It's gonna be a
great show. Tickets are on sale right now online at
Texas House off Rock dot com. Speaking of across the
nation that when it got added on with the WWE,
(02:37):
how did that react with you about how it just
completely blew up out of nowhere?
Speaker 4 (02:43):
Yeah, you know, the way that came about was interesting
because we did it was a compilation record that a
lot of bands that we were at Osfest with we're
on and so everyone kind of got this gig and
we're all, you know, kind of bouncing things off of
each other, like howe we're going to approach this because
it was you know, initially they wanted us to do
like cover versions of specific wrestlers theme songs, which was
(03:08):
almost impossible in some you know, the thing they sent
me was I thought, man, I, you know, I don't
see how I can make a song out of this,
and I don't want to just do a cover you know.
Of course, you know the wrestling theme songs. You know,
they're kind of silly, the lyrics are kind of silly
and stuff. So it's like, wow, man, I was kind
of on the fence about doing it at all, and
I said, look, let me, can we just take the
(03:28):
bassline from this thing and just write a whole different
song around it, right, And they said, hey, go for it,
you know, And so you know, and they accepted it,
which was cool because I really wasn't down to just
cover theme song, you know, right right, So it was
nice that it worked out like that. So it's really
just a Union underground song, you know, on that record,
(03:48):
and it's nice that it's nice that it was really
the only song off that entire record that went to radio.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
Well there, I've seen all over read it that they
say that that song is literally the number one best
theme song for the WWE of all time and they're
saying it's your song.
Speaker 4 (04:08):
It's pretty amazing even to this day if you get
on some of those chat rooms you know with fanatical
wrestling fans, I mean they just chat about it constantly
still and on it. It's also on the new Netflix
WWE like they're launching the launch show right was playing
was opened up with Across the.
Speaker 3 (04:27):
Nation, which is killer Wow Wow.
Speaker 4 (04:29):
So it's going to be recurring in the new show too,
which is nice.
Speaker 1 (04:32):
That's cool.
Speaker 2 (04:33):
Yeah, we're talking with Brian Scott of of course The
Union Underground. So from an education in rebellion, do you
have a favorite track that you love to play? It
like it never grows old on you and you love
playing that song all the time.
Speaker 4 (04:44):
The two that I enjoyed the most playing live is
are definitely South Texas and Killing the Fly Wow. Probably
South Texas is the funnest one to play for me.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
Yeah, you know this song, that song South Texas death
Ride is still a great song to play, and I
know that I think you're gonna get a you'll probably
get a huge reaction from the crowd every time you
guys play that.
Speaker 3 (05:03):
Song, right, Oh yeah, for sure.
Speaker 4 (05:05):
Yeah, it's always been a crowd favorite, you know it.
You know that song was never a single, but it's
always a crowd favorite live for sure.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
Wow Wow, Yeah, we've we've got it here in our
in our on our playlist here at C one oh one,
So it's a C one on one staple. It's kind
of great, guess, so looking forward to seeing live. Like
I said, it's you guys with Spine Shank also Adema
sixth since it's gonna be a great tour, you guys,
besides coming here, it's it's literally a major tour.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
You guys are going all across the United States, right.
Speaker 4 (05:33):
We are, and like Leg one goes through kind of
the South here and then up the Midwest, and then
leg to East Coast, mostly Northeast, and then you know,
we hope to spread out to the West Coast as
well towards the end of the year.
Speaker 3 (05:48):
So yeah, we're gonna take it all over the place.
Speaker 4 (05:51):
You know. Our friends in Spine Shank are also celebrating
twenty five years of their record, so it's a great
time for us to do it.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
Well, it seems like a lot of the new Batal
bands are coming back out of nowhere and and it's
kind of a trend right now to go see some
of these great bands, you know, besides you guys. And
and you know when like Creed and Three Doors Down
and they came back out of nowhere and Cross Fade
they showed up out of nowhere too, and and and
Breaking Benjamin that that they had that one single that
(06:18):
was great, and and so I think right now it's
a trend of looking looking forward to seeing It's like
going back in time and hearing some of these great
songs from some of the great bands. And I'm glad
and I'm so happy to see that you guys are
coming back to Corpus Wow, so the first time, and
you said, like almost twenty five years since you've been
over to Corpus Christy.
Speaker 1 (06:33):
That's crazy. Is there one thing that is there one thing.
Speaker 2 (06:36):
That that that maybe you might be looking forward to
here in Corpus Christy you're looking forward to seeing?
Speaker 3 (06:41):
I'm not sure, you know.
Speaker 4 (06:42):
I hadn't. I actually just went down there with some
family last summer and it was nice, just I hadn't
been down that far in probably ten years, so it
was just nice kind of hanging out on the ghost
there you know what, I don't think I know that
I think about it. I don't think we've played We've
never played House of Rock. The only times we've been
(07:03):
the last times we played in Corpus were always at
Concrete Street. Yeah, so this will this will be just
a new experience overall.
Speaker 3 (07:09):
And I know it.
Speaker 4 (07:10):
You know, it's a smaller venue and it'll you know,
it'll probably sell out most likely. So oh yeah, everyone,
everyone get your tickets quickly.
Speaker 3 (07:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (07:18):
Yeah, I was going to say the House of Rock. Uh,
it's it's more personable that place. It's it's it's you
get you really get up close with your fans at
that venue. It's and they're actually they're celebrating their anniversary also,
and you guys were actually the first bands that they
that they announced celebrating their anniversary also, So yeah, looking
(07:41):
forward to seeing you guys there. Also at the end
they did some remodeling and it looks great. So you
guys will actually be one of some of the first
bands that are playing on on some of the like
some of the new things, the new updates they've had
there at the House of Rock.
Speaker 1 (07:53):
So looking forward to it.
Speaker 2 (07:55):
One last question I wanted to ask you, And I
asked this to every single band member, every single person
I talked to, if you could give some advice to
you know, Corpus Christy. You gotta admit, is a rock
down and there's a lot of local rock bands that
are here. Is there any advice to give to the
local rock bands here in Corpus Christy for them to
take it to the next level? What would you what
(08:18):
advice would you give to them?
Speaker 4 (08:21):
That's a good question that you know, that's you know,
there could be a two hour conversation, but I think
just and generally, without digging too deep, just to just
stay true to what your music is and don't try
to chase trends too much.
Speaker 3 (08:38):
They change constantly.
Speaker 4 (08:40):
Stay true to yourself, keep your head down and just
work hard and things will come to you. Like I think,
I think, And now these days there's so many ways
to get music out and there's so many platforms and
so many different ways to expose people to your music.
Then you just have to work constantly, you know, I mean,
that's really all, and just stay true your sounds, you know,
(09:01):
don't chase trends.
Speaker 2 (09:03):
Well, I appreciate you taking the time to talk to
us today. And like I said, looking forward to seeing
you guys July thirteenth over at the venue of House
of Rock. Tickets are on sale right now, Texas House
off rock dot com. Any last words you want to
say to your fans.
Speaker 4 (09:14):
Oh, just so you know the continued support, it's amazing
and you know we can't wait to light it up
this year, twenty five years. Thanks so much guys and
Corpus Christy, We're going to light that place up for sure.
