Speaker 1 (00:00):
Corpus Christy's classic Kids Big ninety three to nine. Hey,
(00:02):
what's going on? It is hip Man with you and
you know it's coming up on January sixth at the
American Bank Center. Nine times Tony Ward winning, including Best Musical,
The Book of Mormon is coming to the American Bank Center.
Tickets are on sale now at the American Bank Center
box office. And I have on the phone with me
Diego and Rico, who's actually Elder cunning And from Book
(00:22):
of Mormon. Hey, dude, how are you.
Speaker 2 (00:24):
I'm doing great? How are you, Jeff?
Speaker 1 (00:26):
I am doing great? Now where are you at today?
Speaker 2 (00:28):
Today?
Speaker 3 (00:29):
We are in the beautiful city of Minneapolis. We just
got hit by a cold front when we got in,
so it is freezing up here.
Speaker 1 (00:36):
Oh well wait till you get down here. It'll probably
be in the eighties when you come here.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
So, oh, I remember Fondley.
Speaker 1 (00:44):
So you know it's. Book of Mormon has won so
many Tony's. It's such a great play that was on
Broadway and it's touring. What do you love about touring
with the Book of Mormon?
Speaker 3 (00:53):
Oh my god, I mean this shuttle has been a
dream for me. I've wanted to play this character, in
particular Elder Cunningham, since I was in high school. So
just getting to do this is a dream come true,
and it is absolutely it is the craziest thing to
be doing. I just graduated in May, so I am
just pumped to be along for the ride.
Speaker 1 (01:15):
That's great. Now, of course, you know, if people been
living under a rock, what should why should audiences see
the show or what can audiences expect when seeing the show?
Speaker 2 (01:26):
Well, what I always like to tell people when they
ask what to expect is I lead with the fact
that the show was written by the creators of South Park,
Matt Stone and Trey Parker.
Speaker 3 (01:36):
So if you know their comedy, their humor, you know
what you're getting yourself into.
Speaker 2 (01:41):
Now it is a night full of laughs.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
Everyone who comes and sees the show just has their
own takeaway from it. And may I just I don't
want to give away too much in the show, right,
but I'll throw a little synopsis. The quick thing, just
the quick five second pitch is it follows a pair
of mismatched Mormon missionaries. One of them is like the
picture perfect all American Mormon boy, and the other one,
(02:11):
which is the character that I play, is is he's
a little socially awkward. He's more interested in sci fi
than any Holy book you could put in front of him.
The two are match together and they're sent halfway across
the world just to spread the good word. And I'll
leave it at that, So we keep some mystery there.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
That's great. We're talking with Diego Enrico, who's Elder Cunningham
from the Book of Mormon. That's coming on January sixth
the American Bank Center. Tickets are still available right now.
But now I got to ask you, though, though, what
do you enjoy most about performing every night?
Speaker 3 (02:48):
Oh well, it comes down really to my to my
relationship with my with my with the co lead Sam McClellan,
who plays Other Price. We really open the show off
together and it's it's it's such a nice thing to
do every single night because we get along so well.
And for a minute, I was a little nervous when
I first got in because he and I there's a
(03:09):
bit of an age difference with us, but we clicked
immediately and it and it is so much fun just
getting to explore and play and and and share this
show with people every single night. So that's that's that's
a huge highlight for me.
Speaker 4 (03:22):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
Well, now, have you ever been to Corpus before?
Speaker 3 (03:26):
I'm sure, I'm sure that I have. I used to
live in in Katie, Texas. I was born in Houston,
so I've been to Galveston, I've been I've been all
over Texas at this point, so I'm sure.
Speaker 2 (03:39):
I've been to Corpus.
Speaker 3 (03:40):
I have family out there, But I can't tell you
that I particularly remember anything.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
Oh okay, Well it's because you said how it was
freezing right now Minneapolis, but you you remember how it
might be like in the eighties around here down in
South Texas.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
Yeah, yeah, that's Texas for you.
Speaker 1 (03:58):
So what is the best reaction that you've seen while
you've been on stage while doing the Book of Mormon.
What's the craziest thing that you've seen from the audience
when you're doing the show.
Speaker 3 (04:09):
Well, one of my favorite things about this show is
that it is an introduction for a lot of people
into musical theater. I mean, the selling point of it
being part of the South Park people that a lot
of new people come and see this show. So the
theater etiquette isn't exactly what you expect from some of
these people, but they are.
Speaker 2 (04:30):
So pumped and along for the ride. I mean, you
have moments in the.
Speaker 3 (04:33):
Show where people are just overcome with excitement and they'll
yell out.
Speaker 4 (04:39):
Like all right, Like there are these quiet moments in
the show between me and Sam and around the end
of the show where you get a nice things things
wrap around in a nice.
Speaker 3 (04:51):
Way and and the audience is quiet and suddenly you
just hear all right, brother.
Speaker 4 (04:56):
It is just.
Speaker 2 (04:59):
Stuff like the that is always fun.
Speaker 3 (05:01):
I mean, we love We are having just as much
fun upstage as people are having watching the show.
Speaker 2 (05:06):
So it's always great hearing that from the audience.
Speaker 1 (05:08):
Well, Diego, I appreciate you calling in today. Of course,
Like I said, it's happening on January sixth, the American
Bank Center, Salina Auditorium. Tickets are available now at the
American Bank Center box office and probably ticketmaster dot com.
The Book of Mormon is less than a month away.
I'm looking forward to seeing it, brother, and I'm looking
forward to seeing you on stage.
Speaker 3 (05:25):
All right, all right, I can't wait for you to
see it. I can't wait for you to come out
