Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, what's going on? It is Hitman with you and
I've got on the phone right now Jesse from ten years. Hey, dude,
what's going on?
Speaker 2 (00:06):
Just getting into town and hanging out.
Speaker 1 (00:08):
Yeah, all right, Yeah, it's gonna be a great show
happening at Bruces Street tomorrow night. We found out just
recently that Kingdom Collapse will be opening up for you guys, right, yeah.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
Originally we had Conquered Divide. They've been out with us
for quite some time, but they had some stuff they're
going through where they had to bail out of the
last three shows. Right, But we've done stuff with Kingdom
before and they're good. We're glad they could jump on
such short notice.
Speaker 1 (00:32):
Well that's cool. I mean, dude, I gotta let you
new guys know. You guys are the hardest working band
I've ever seen in my life. I swear to you guys.
It's like I've seen you guys now dozens of times
in different cities, and you guys are the hardest working
band on tour. What's it been like so far?
Speaker 2 (00:52):
I mean, you know, it's like feaster or famine. When
it's go time, it's gohost. So that's when we buckle
up and do all the work. Like we started this
tour at the end of August and we won't get
home till like November fourth, So it's about a little
nine week, ten week tour. So it's it's work. But
you know, when that stuff is available and you're able
(01:13):
to do a nationwide tour, it's it's got to still
take it as a blessing.
Speaker 1 (01:18):
Yeah. Yeah, we're talking with Jesse from ten years. Of
course tomorrow night over at Brewster Street Ice House. It
should be great.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
Show.
Speaker 1 (01:23):
Tickets are still on sale right now Brewsterstreet dot net.
You guys even have gone into and actually I got
some and it's actually really really good. You guys got
into the coffee business.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
Yeah, yeah, so that is funny. It was a joke.
It started off with a just like many years ago,
because we just over the years of touring and getting older,
we switched from less alcohol and more coffee, and you're like, man,
we need coffee. And then we noticed our bass player
actually has a mobile coffee company back in our home
hometown Knoxville, Tennessee, and we made the joke. Dude, we
(01:57):
got to come up with something to do that. And
then it just so happened that when we released that
song Rise, We're like, well that's a no brainer name
for coffee, So we reached out to him and it
actually is really good quality coffee.
Speaker 1 (02:13):
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. I actually also talked to Brian
from the band and he was telling me that when
you guys were first testing out coffee, you actually had
to test out like different types of coffee beans, and
that there was a couple that were terrible, but then
this one just came around and it was perfect for
you guys.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
Right. Yeah, we didn't realize again with our bass player,
like this was like going to a high end like
roaster tasting and you you could say, mix this bean
with this bean, and my education level of it all
was swim to none. So we kind of let him
take the lead. But it resulted in a really good product.
Speaker 1 (02:47):
That's crazy. Now, tell us about was it. Tell us
about the single The Optimists. We're playing it now on
C one on one. Tell me a little bit about
the single. How'd that come around?
Speaker 2 (02:56):
Well, originally it's it's a very beginning stages. Was just
musically it was a jam that we were you know,
when you're out touring and stuff, sometimes a riff will
pop up and that jam will just kind of stick,
and then it ended up being something that turned into
a little musical piece, and then we buckled down and
did We've been doing a lot of writing on and
off since COVID has been kind of just all over
(03:18):
the place and kind of get our thoughts together and
see what we had. But The Optimist is pretty much
from a vocal standpoint and lyrically, it's just the observation
of the world and society and where you fit and
how you can just absolutely get just beat down by
all the opinions and it's just like wanting to hit
(03:39):
pause or like they're you know, just want to stop
the world and kill the conversation to find a little
peace of mind. It's kind of like that where you
got to find your own happiness. You can't be swallowed
up by everybody else's comments.
Speaker 1 (03:50):
Yeah, yeah, that is crazy. I mean, like I said,
you guys are the hardest working band I've ever seen
in my life and looking forward to seeing you guys.
It's happening tomorrow night over Bruce Street Ice House with
opening act Kingdom Collapse. It should be a great show.
Tickets are still available Brewsterstreet dot Net. Of course I
asked this to anybody whenever I get to interview them,
(04:12):
especially a lot of bands. Do you have any advice
for up and coming bands on how they can go
to the next level? You know, I know there's there's
a couple of local bands that are here that are
trying so hard to get to that next level? What
what advice can you give them to?
Speaker 2 (04:28):
You know, to I mean, yeah, yeah, it really it
comes down to it sounds just typical and cliche to say,
but it is the hard work. But you also have
to kind of be self aware and be ready to
take constructive criticism because at the end of the day,
you have to create something that people want to listen
to and consume and dig into. So as you're writing,
(04:51):
you've got to get with the right group of people
where you're all on the same page. We all have
the same work ethic, but like you ultimately have to
come up with a product that that people want. So
you have to really put stuff under a microscope and
get to that point. But if you just keep working,
like in the very beginning stages of our career, when
we weren't even signed, we were going some of us
(05:13):
were going to college and like literally practicing five days
a week and like having day jobs like it was.
It was full on. But then when the band stuff
felt like it was starting to work, like I didn't
even took a hiatus from college and then realized, you know,
I'm going to just go all in on this band thing,
and it happened to work out. But you've never arrived.
You're always working, even when you have success. That's when,
(05:37):
like some people think, when you sign a record deal,
you've made it now, that's when it's the work begins.
Speaker 1 (05:43):
Yeah. No, I completely agree with you. Well, looking forward
to seeing you tomorrow night over at Bruce Street Iceuse.
And as a matter of fact, wan, don't you introduce
your song right now?
Speaker 2 (05:51):
Hey, this is Jesse from ten years and you're listening
to The Optimist
