out Tuesday night during a power outage which disabled several
locks in the facility. The men's disappearance wasn't noticed until
about five hours later during a head count, agents notifying
Aurora police, but say the department refused to help. Aurora
City Councilwoman Danielle Durinski says, their hands are tied.

Speaker 9 (01:18):
There is a state law here that supersedes the jurisdiction
of the Aurora Police Department. ICE knows that it is
not a fair statement to say that we refuse.

Speaker 8 (01:29):
To get involved, she tells Fox thirty one. The men
are being held on civil charges, not criminal ones. An
ICE spokesman asks anyone with information about the escapees to
call their tip line. ICE also blaming the protesters were
outside the detention center for the distraction that allowed the
men to escape, doesn't surrounding the facility. Protesting the arrest

closures are necessary due to declining enrollment.

Speaker 8 (03:19):
President Trump getting ready to sign another executive order at
this one calling for the shutdown of the Department of Education.

Speaker 11 (03:25):
The order directs Secretary of Education Linda McMahon to take
all necessary steps to facilitate the closure of the Department
of Education and return education authority to the States, also
directing that programs or activities receiving any remaining Department of
Education funds will not advance DEI diversity, equity and inclusion
or gender ideology. President Trump has criticized the department as wasteful,

(03:49):
but only Congressional lawmakers can get rid of the Education Department,
which Congress created in nineteen seventy nine.

Speaker 3 (03:56):
Christian Goodwin, Fox News.

Speaker 8 (03:57):
The Trump administration says it's pausing about one hundred and

Speaker 4 (04:12):
Sresident Trump's invocation of the Alien Enemies Act is part
of his constitutional authority to protect the nation. That's the
argument the Justice Department's making appealing the federal judges decision
that blocked the administration from deporting suspected Venezuelan gang members
without hearings.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
The DOJ also alleged.

Speaker 4 (04:30):
That judge is not entitled to learn more about the
men deported, even though an ICE official acknowledged that many
of the men deported lack criminal records and were deported
on suspicion they might be gang members.

State Department spokesman Tammy Bruce.

Speaker 11 (05:23):
As Secretary Rubio has said there is no military solution
to this war.

Speaker 3 (05:28):
All sides need to move to a ceasefire. President Trump
has made this clear as well.

Speaker 8 (05:32):
This comes after an hour long conversation between Presidents Trump
and Zelensky yesterday, where Trump said he's confident and ends
to the Russia Ukraine war is near Palestinian medics in
Gaza say Israeli strikes overnight killed at least forty people,

week to about five hundred. Israel also moving ground troops

Speaker 7 (06:16):
The NCAA tournament tipping off today, sixteen games around the country,
four of those at Ball Arena, and when the Wisconsin

Speaker 2 (06:28):
For one of the Badgers players.

Speaker 14 (06:30):
Because of the transfer portal. There are more of these
reunion stories. John Tanjay played four seasons at CSU before
going to Missouri, then Wisconsin, and now he's fifty miles
from where it all began.

Speaker 2 (06:41):
You know, it brings back a lot of memories.

Speaker 15 (06:43):
Is driving around and I'm kind of just seeing the

be backing in Colorado for a little bit.

Speaker 14 (06:50):
And he credits the Rams in their program for his development.

We'll take a look coming up in business a Money News,
also a.

Speaker 2 (07:11):
Look at sports. Not a great night for the Nuggets
or Abs.

Speaker 7 (07:15):
That's all coming up first, though, Let's get our first
look at traffic. Go to the KOA Traffic Center and
say good morning to Jonathan Steele.

Speaker 2 (07:23):
Hey, guys, very good morning to you.

Speaker 1 (07:25):
Not too bad on the start out here, for it's
pretty quiet on the freeways. There's one accident at gun
Club and Jewel that came in just a short time ago.
It could be a bit of a factor out there
in the east southeast Aurora area. Two two five's wide
open forest night twenty five. Looks good post to speed
limit pretty much all the way across the city. Not
seeing really any lingering construction anywhere. There was some slowing
down on Santa Fe near c for seventy and it

(07:47):
looks like get into the foothills were good up Mount
Vernon Canyon as well as Floyd Hill and the mountain
roads look good. We'll keep you advised this morning. Jonathan
Steele on KWA eight fifty am in ninety four one FM.

Speaker 8 (07:58):
At what are joining us with our look at the
latest business and money news.

Speaker 3 (08:02):
So no change in interest rates and a surge for
financial market.

Speaker 2 (08:06):
That doesn't always work out that way, does it.

Speaker 16 (08:07):
But Federal Research chairger Own Powell's comments at the end
of the Fed's latest meeting, We're a definite tonic for
Wall Street.

Speaker 17 (08:14):
The economy is strong overall and has made significant progress
toward our goals over the past two years. Labor market
conditions are solid, and inflation has moved closer to our
two percent longer run.

Speaker 16 (08:25):
They sound like it, but I swear I didn't cueue
that up from the last meeting they had. It sounds
a lot like what Powell always says, But maybe it
is what he didn't say that got the markets excited.

Speaker 5 (08:34):
The Fed did the expected leaving interest rates unchanged, but
they're continuing that weight and see approach. They just want
to see what the tariffs from the White House will
mean for the health of the economy and for inflation
in particular.

Speaker 16 (08:47):
If he sees Alexis Christopero so about those tariffs. Powell
didn't mention them, but he didn't really dwell on them.
Kamost Amir Khan with the Ardent Advisory Group says Pow
made it clear he's not really all that worried about
the tariff sparking inflation.

Speaker 2 (09:01):
His confidence of paying.

Speaker 18 (09:03):
Yes, it's a concern, but I don't think that this
would be a long term concern.

Speaker 1 (09:07):
I think relieve the markets, and you saw that reaction
in the markets, that the markets were up.

Speaker 16 (09:12):
Right that in the likelihood of two interest rate cuts
was the fuel for the market surge.

Speaker 19 (09:17):
Now, Jones rose three hundred and eighty three points and
was pushing back toward forty two thousand. The standard of
hoores five hundred regained just over one percent. The nance
that composite added one point four percent on the day.
It isn't clear whether he jumped or was pushed, but
Amtrak CEO Stephen Gardner is out as head of the
US Passenger Railroad. A White House official tells Reuters that

(09:37):
Gardner was asked to step down after four years in
his position.

Speaker 2 (09:40):
Jimally in ABC News.

James did not play for La Aaron Gordon led the
Nuggets with twenty six points.

Speaker 2 (10:33):
Coach Michael Malone, we got a.

Speaker 18 (10:35):
Buff kicked over all nineteen turnovers for thirty points. That's
not going to allow you to win many games, especially
when you're missing a couple of key players. But just
got to find a way to try to get healthy
and go up to Portland.

Speaker 7 (10:48):
The Nuggets fall to fourth place in the Western Conference.
Their West Coast road trip continues Friday night in Portland
against the Blazers. The Avalanche failed to extend their win
streak to three games. Colorado loss to the Maple Leaves
two to one in Toronto. Coach Jared Bednar he had
some scoring chances to be able to win the hockey game.
There's only played good.

Speaker 2 (11:09):
We kept going at the glove, and you see Mike
gef just kind of dialed in on that.

Speaker 7 (11:13):
The Abs and auto it tonight playing the Senators. They'll
be without defenseman Josh Manson for three to four weeks.
He suffered what's described as an upper body injury during
last week's game against the Flames. In spring training baseball,
the Rockies lost to the Diamondbacks one to nothing in
a pitcher's duel.

Speaker 2 (11:30):
Manager Bud Black, I thought everybody threw the ball well
today I really did you know?

Speaker 7 (11:34):

over the potential funding cuts, which they say could lead
to reduce staffing and fewer resources to support students.

Speaker 7 (13:12):
President Trump expected to sign an executive order today aimed
at eliminating the Department of Education.

Speaker 2 (13:18):
Once the President makes.

Speaker 7 (13:19):
The move, he'll then direct Education Secretary Linda McMahon to
take all the steps necessary to begin the closure of
the DOE and return authority to individual states.

Speaker 3 (13:29):
Vice President JD.

Speaker 8 (13:30):

Speaker 3 (14:08):
They're calling her the Super Bowl Scammer.

Speaker 8 (14:10):
The Arapaho County Sheriff's office is asking for help locating
a woman accused of stealing thousands of dollars from Colorado's
who thought they were going to the Big Game. The suspect,
who goes by the name Gigi Levy, reportedly convinced people
to purchase bake tickets, flights, and hotel reservations, and even
claimed to be a lawyer from Live Nation to sell
a fake sixty eight hundred dollars Super Bowl package. Anyone

(14:33):
with more information on our whereabouts should contact authorities.

Speaker 7 (14:36):
Speaking of scams, March Madness also brings those ticket scams.
Colorado Attorney General Phil Wiser says scammers will look to
prey on the excitement of basketball fans and trick them
into thinking they're getting a good deal, especially on the
resale market. He added that using a trusted website is
the easiest way to protect yourself.

Speaker 2 (14:54):
And if anything sounds too good to be true, it
probably is.

Speaker 8 (14:57):
The RAMS now in Seattle, gearing up for the end tournament.
We'll hear from CSU's athletic director coming up next.

Speaker 7 (15:04):
First, though, let's get another check on traffic from the
KOA Traffic Center.

Speaker 2 (15:08):
Here's Jonathan Steele.

Speaker 1 (15:09):
Yeah, we're doing very well so far. Highways checking clear
on any kind of problem. It looks like instruction has
been wrapped up on routes like E four seventy, Panya
even two seventy, so speed that the posted limit thus
far I twenty five building coming out of Northland Thornton certainly,
and I twenty five down two and from the Tech Center.
There was one early want to crash at gun club
and Jewel might be a bit of a factor out

(15:30):
of that neighborhood. Seeing maybe a little bit of slowing
right now heading up towards Genesee on I seventy. This
is going to be on the westbound side up there,
but certainly not at delay. At this point, all the
other freeways pretty much wide open force. Jonathan Steel on
KA eight fifty am and ninety four one FM.

Speaker 3 (15:47):
KOA News Time five twenty.

Speaker 8 (15:50):
Gina Gontek and Chad Bauer in for Marty Lenz this
morning on Colorado's Morning News.

Speaker 3 (15:54):
Because Marty is already in Seattle as his CSU.

Speaker 8 (15:57):
Rams are gearing up for the big game against Memphis
and the Cuba Tournament's first round tomorrow.

Speaker 7 (16:03):
So yes, US Director of Athletics John Weber joined us
on the Kawa Commas Spirit Health.

Speaker 2 (16:08):
Hotline to talk more about the game.

Speaker 7 (16:10):
And So, John, going into the conference championship game, were
you under the impression that.

Speaker 2 (16:15):
It was do or die, that it was a must
win or you would not be going to the to
the tournament.

Speaker 6 (16:20):
Well, we certainly approached the game that way. It was
it was an important win for us to get and
as it turned out that that's probably exactly what it meant.
But we're unbelievably excited to be able to get ourselves
to Seattle and compete in Nancy double As for the
third time in four years now.

Speaker 3 (16:36):
Yeah, John, what has the energy been like on campus
so far.

Speaker 6 (16:39):
Oh, everyone's super excited. You know, we're even though we've
got some kids out on spring break. You know, the
the the excitement level is the extremely high. We've got
a lot of alumni up in Seattle actually, so we
expect a really good RAM contingent up there, and we
sold out our allotment of tickets, so we're gonna have
a lot of Green and Gold cheering us on here

(17:00):
on Friday.

Speaker 7 (17:00):
And I imagine John that both from a logistical standpoint,
from what the things that you have to work with,
and from an on court standpoint and coaching standpoint, that
tournament experience has got to come in really handy for
coming into Friday.

Speaker 6 (17:14):
It absolutely does. And you know, we've got players on
the team that have been to the tournament before, and
we had, you know, a transfer come in that's played
at the high level in the tournament before. So our
team is is certainly going to be ready, and they're
they're excited to play here at noon on Friday.

Speaker 7 (17:30):
And John, put put on your scouting hat for a
moment and tell us what you expect from from Memphis.

Speaker 2 (17:36):
Your opponent's on Friday.

Speaker 6 (17:38):
Well, Memphis is going to be a very athletic team.

Speaker 3 (17:41):
They're going to be a fast team.

Speaker 6 (17:42):
So you're going to see us play at a little
bit of a different pace, a little bit of a
different way. We're going to have to, uh, we're gonna
have to deal with it with a little bit of
a longer athlete, a little bit of a taller athlete.
But they're they're getting ready in practice this week.

Speaker 2 (17:56):
We're going to be ready for John.

Speaker 8 (17:58):
I know you might I roll out this next question,
but I got to ask because we have listeners asking too.

Speaker 3 (18:02):
Obviously, all eyes.

Speaker 8 (18:03):
On the game for this week, however, we've had the
future of coach Nigo Medbet and what we can see
post this. Have you heard of any teams reaching out
to him, any talks or how can see as you
keep him here in our area?

Speaker 6 (18:17):
Well, Coach Medvet is certainly an elite coach. We're blessed
to have him with us, you know, like I've already said,
he's taken us to the tournament three of the last
four years, and when you have that level of success,
there's always going to be people that are knocking on
your door. But we're excited to have him as our
coach and look forward to that continuing.

Speaker 7 (18:37):
And John making the tournament is great for the morale
of the students, for the fan base of the staff.
But what does it mean in terms of exposure to
the university, to the people that might not be familiar
with your school.

Speaker 6 (18:51):
Well, and that's a great point. That's exactly why we do.
What we do is to build the brand of Colorado State.
That's everything that we do. It's a great exposure for
the university perspective. Students are aware of who we are.

Speaker 18 (19:04):
And what we do.

Speaker 6 (19:05):
So that's precisely why you know it's important for us
to not just compete, but to compete at a high level.

Speaker 3 (19:12):
John, did you fill out a bracket? Do you have
to see SU going all the way?

Speaker 6 (19:16):
I have not filled out a bracket, but I can
guarantee you that you know had I done that they
certainly would be Yes.

Speaker 7 (19:22):
That is CSU Director of Athletics, John Weber. Tomorrow's game
in Seattle CSU and Memphis begins at noon, and we
will be talking with Susie Wargen. She's going to be
in Seattle. I'll talk to her at seven nineteen about
what's going on. See if the see how she thinks
they're going to do because they're the higher seeds, they're

(19:44):
the twelve against the five, but their favorite that's what
I saw.

Speaker 8 (19:47):
Yeah, they were saying that could be one of the
first upsets we see in the first round.

Speaker 3 (19:51):
Is this CSU game. So fingers crossed that is the case.

Speaker 8 (19:54):
Also, locally, Ballerina will be hosting six of those games
for those will be taking place today.

Speaker 3 (20:00):
Media poll question for today.

Speaker 8 (20:01):
Is which one are you looking forward to our local
games that will be taking place here in Denver. You
can engage with us on x on Facebook or leave
us a talk back by hitting the red mic button
on the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 2 (20:13):
The newscast is coming up next.

Speaker 7 (20:15):
First though, let's get a check on traffic from the
Kawa Traffic Center.

Speaker 2 (20:19):
Here's Jonathan Steele.

Speaker 1 (20:21):
Yeah, we're doing very well so far this morning. Not
a lot to contend with. Let's see Smoky Hill and
Jewel one crash early on this morning. Not a real
big factor there as you're coming in that southeast Auror area. Two,
two guys, about a ten minute commute Pult directions out
of Auror, Pennas fifteen minutes from I seventy to the
terminal We're seeing a little build up up North North
Bend Thornton area, but no drag on speeds.

Speaker 2 (20:43):
Just yeah.

Speaker 1 (20:44):
II twenty five is wide open to the Tech Center
and eastbound routes like six twenty five, even C four
seventy in great shape as we continue to build. Jonathan
